Battery health decreased rapidly after charging problems.

Hy a few weeks ago the health of my mid 2010 MacBook Pro was still 79% which is normal since it has more than 1000 cycles.
Then following incident happened:
My battery was almost discharged, 30% or so, so I connected it to the AC power. After a while I wanted to see how much it was charged but the indicator in the corner still indicated the same 30% or so, only when I disconnected it it changed to something in the 80% range. I used my computer for a while like that and I noticed that the battery indicator was not chaning. Only when I connected or disconnected the AC power did it update.
I decided to reboot the machine and this solved the problem. I recently noticed however that my battery health now dropped to 63% which seems very much in a short period of time.
I know that normally charger will deliver less current to the battery when it is near 80% in order to prevent overcharging and maintain battery life as much as possible. I wonder however if the drastic decrease could be because of the power management thinking that the battery was only partly charged and thus delivering to much current to an almost full battery? If this is the case do you think that Apple would intervene for the costs of a new battery? I know I would have had to replace it sooner rather than later but this does change a lot I think. My computer is not in warranty anymore and I don't want to pay 49€ for one intervention. There are also no official Apple stores in Belgium and the authorised resellers really don't offer the same service.

sweex,
since your battery has over 1000 cycles and has 79% of its original full charge capacity remaining, Apple considers your battery “consumed”; they will not intervene for the cost of a new battery. It’s entirely your decision when to replace your battery, but irregular charging results are to be expected for as long as you use your present battery.
If no Apple-authorized service center in Belgium offers the option of changing the battery, then you should let Apple know so that they can find an organization who will do so. I don’t know where you are in Belgium, but this search around Brussels shows seven different Apple-authorized service centers which all claim to service Macs, and the one in Aalst is noted as being a Premium service center.

  • My battery life decreased dramatically after updating to ios 6.1.2.  How do I delete and go back to previous iso?

I have iphone 5; my battery life decreased dramatically after updating to ios 6.1.2.  How do I delete and go back to previous iso?

Downgrading the iOS isn't supported and wouldn't help even if you could.   There have been reports of decreased battery life after every update since iOS 1.0.1.
There are lots of things that can be done including reinstalling push email accounts. basic phone reset (pressing both home and power buttons for at least 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears), and restoring the phone with and without a backup.

  • Why is my battery health decreasing so rapidly????

I bought a new one like 3 weeks ago .. it has 10 cycles and the battery health has decreased from 98% to 95% in these last few days .. I usually have it connected to Ac power and discharge it like every 4 days.. thats the 10 cycles .. why would the health decrease this much???

Apple battery or 3rd party battery?  Do you mean the overall charging capacity has dropped from 98% to 95%.  Mine has 15 cycles on it and it charges to 100% and if I leave it plugged in for a few days it will drop to 97% and that's perfectly fine.

  • Battery Capacity decreasing rapidly

I have a new 11" Air, and i have noticed something very concerning.
The capacity of the battery (the maximum amount of charge it can hold) is dropping rapidly.
In the 3 days I have had it, it has already dropped to 97%.
It charges fine and lasts as long as it should, but the max capacity it can charge to is dropping so rapidly that it'll be down to zero in 3 months!
I am using System Profiler/Power to interrogate the battery, and if I compare it to my MacBook Pro 13, the difference is stark.
The MBP13 after 7 months of use and some 50 charges is still showing around 100.2% capacity - in fact, it has hardly budged at all since it was new.
The Air was at about 99.5% when I first powered it on, but it is dropping very fast.
    Any ideas?
    Shame, otherwise i love it!!!

    Hi,
hmm.. if you dont mind, I suggest you to carry your power adapter with you and plug it in to any power source when you start booting your MBA to prevent your MBA from using the power form the battery. This will greatly reduce the cycle count. I think the cycle count is more important than the health because Apple wrote a software to monitor the health based on the cycle count. Meaning, the health of your battery may in fact good, but the cycle count is, say above 300 and thus software ask the owner to change the battery.
If you think that this way may work for you, remember to calibrate your battery every 3 months.
    Hope it helps.
    Cheers.

  • Why is my battery health decreasing so quickly?

Hello. I just bought my Macbook in January. The battery health is decreasing rather quickly. Yesterday it was at 90% health and today it is at 89% health with 130 cycles. I always calibrate it. What can I do to save my battery's health from decreasing so quickly? Why is it decreasing at this rate?

  • Battery health descreased rapidly

When I upgraded the firmware on my Macbook, I checked the battery health in iStat and it went from 98% to 93%. Is this a mistake? Did the firmware just give me a more accurate number? I just bought the computer in June, it seems like a rapid decline in the health of the battery.

When did you last calibrate your battery? You may want to calibrate again since you just changed firmware.

  • IPod Touch 3rd Gen: Battery Draining very rapidly after iOS4 upgrade.

    Hello All,
    Sorry for the long post:
I was wondering if others are experiencing this issue as well? I have a 3rd gen ipod touch 64gb.
Prior to the iOS4 upgrade my battery life was very decent. I would easily go a couple(2) days before requiring a full charge on the device even with modest internet, game and music use. As a rule I keep my back light as low as I can stand to conserve battery unless I'm in direct sunlight and have no choice but to bump it up in order to see.
After the iOS4 upgrade my battery life has been drasticly reduced. Going even 24 hours without plugging the device in is totally out of the question and in many cases I find myself having to plug the device into my laptop or car pretty much any chance I get in order to have uninterupted use of the device while I'm out and about. Although I've never timed my actual use, my usage habbits have not changed as far as I'm concerned.
I went so far as to exchanging the device at my local bestbuy as I purchased the blacktie protection plan which grants me an exchange of the device for "any" reason; be it manufaturer defect, accidental breakage, or anything really short of losing it. The replacement was a brand new non refurb ipod which I synced and charged fully upon bringing it home. To my suprise, the battery life is just as bad as the ipod I just turned in. I have yet to downgrade to iOS3 but am considering it if only to see if I suddenly see a great improvement of the battery life.
If anyone is having the issue or has some suggestions other then downgrading please comment. If this is an "unknown" bug/issue/flaw in iOS4 I'm sure apple would like to know about it and I'm assuming they monitor these forums for reports of these issues.
    Thanks!

  • BATTERY HEALTH DECLINING RAPIDLY

So for almost all of the time, i have my mbp plugged in to its power source. On occasion i take it to my friends house to record some music but i still bring and plug in its power adapter. Ive had it since Feb 2006 and according to iStat, had 31 cycles for my battery. but recently, every now and then i dont plug in my power adapter when i come back from my friends and the battery will run out. the last two times the health has dropped dramatically. the time before the last time my battery ran out, the health dropped from 97% to 85%. And this last time dropped from 85% to 47%. all because i let my battery run out??? Is it time for a battery replacement? i dont see why this makes such a huge difference. But in my ignorance holds the problem. so here i am needing advice. Please help.

Have you calibrated your battery during the last 2 years? Detailed instructions can be found at:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh2339.html
When you let the computer run down without being plugged in your inadvertently calibrated your battery. The reason for the decline, even with 31 cycles, is possibly due to the machine being plugged in constantly. Batteries in the MBP's like to be used to stay healthy. Batteries that are not used go bad. The following link has information on maximizing battery life:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=50666
If you have Applecare on the machine, you should give them a call. I don't think batteries are warranted past the first year, but could be wrong. You can also stop by the Apple store and have them check it with a new battery, to see if it is a computer issue, charging issue, or battery issue.

  • Purity Pro Battery-Level max 80 % after charging

    Hello everyone,
I believe that the battery of my phones are broken. On a full charge my Lumia 920 displays only a charge of 80%. First I thought it was normal and it would adjust after a few charging cycles. But after 10-15 cycles it's the same.
Is this normal? Is there a way to reset the entire device? Something like a hard reset? or should I drain the battery completely in order to reset the internal battery meter??
    Any help would be great.

I couldn't find a way to edit my post.
I'm talking about the battery of my purity pros. Everytime I charge them, my phone displays the battery level of the purities below 90% most of the time 80%.

  • Why is my battery discharging so rapidly after iOS 5 download?

Why is my iPad1 battery discharging after iOS 5 download?

It is not just you - something is wrong...
I noticed a significant difference.  Normally my iPad 2 would sit in my bag overnight and drain just a few percentages.  Now it drains almost completely.  I have turned off all services, fetch, location, etc - it helps a little, but the battery life is worse than before.  When using my iPad 2 during normal usage, I could get through a couple flights and still have more than 50% battery - now I am lucky if it makes it the same time before getting to 0%.  Something is wrong with the new iOS 5.  I wish I wouldn't have updated...

  • Ipod battery keeps dying even after charging

I am so frustrated. Ive had my ipod for about 2 years, its the regular one ( not nano or touch or anything new). Its worked fine and I only use it when I go to the gym so it hasnt been plugged into anything but my ibook, hasnt been dropped, etc. Lately, I will charge the battery because it has died, and then when I go to use it again it says I have low battery and just dies in less than a minute! Ive gone through this process so many times and IDK what to do... I'm not doing anything wrong. How do I fix this? Is it cheaper to get it fixed or just get a whole new ipod? Is this common? What is the reason for this? please help me Thank you!

it sounds like its time for you to replace your battery. the average life span of ipod batterys is like two years you can get it replaced for between forty and eighty dollars depending where you go. sorry

  • Macbookair battery health problem?

I recently purchased a mid-2011 Air 13' i5 128gb and after 1 week of regular use, the battery health decreased to 95% (iStatPro and Coconut Battery). The battery life is of 5 to 6 hours doing word processing and Safari. The original stat of the bat was 98% and Coconut says that the battery has incredibly 28 weeks of life...
Is it normal? Do i have to concern about?
    Thanks.

    Hi, SP Forsythe,
I finish calibration and the stat is 96% and the current battery capacity rise from 6429 to 6452.
I`m a little bit relaxed about the "problem" after reading this thread that make sense to me.(https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2090860)
that says: "There is no problem. Simply do not give the ±5% to 10% battery health estimate any credence. Ignore it. It will fluctuate up and down, and the fluctuations have no significance whatsoever."
The point is that after spending lot of money in that little thing I don't wanna play with casualties...I'm going to the authorized representative to make a test. I just don't know if I can really trust this guys, after all, it's not good for them to return the product. And the problem looks like not important.
I don't know, let's see whats happen. After all, thanks for the help.

  • I have a ipod touch 8gb when i plug it in to charge it just blinks from the apple screen to the battery screen but will not charge what could be wrong it was fine yesterday?

I have a ipod touch 8gb . When I plug it in to charge it just blinks from the apple screen to the battery screen what could be wrong?

    Maybe:
    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable
    - Try another charging source
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, cracked or broken plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store.

    or
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
