Battery Indicator continues to Flash at 99%

I have an HP Pavilion dv5237cl notebook computer.  The notebook battery indicator continues to flash even though the battery charge percentage is 99%.  Does anybody know why this is happening?

Ever since I installed Leopard a month ago the battery menu icon has been behaving oddly. When the battery is charged to 99% the icon switches to the "charged" icon from the "charging" icon. The power adapter still glows orange AND the time shown in the battery menu says "Calculating time until full", not even the time it had just a percentage ago. A screenshot is below:

This has to be the OS, not the battery because it never did this in Tiger. When I run on battery it gets the same 3 hours and 55 minutes it did under Tiger with normal use. Has anyone else seen this? Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening? Thanks, Alex.
Have you re-calibrated the battery?
Then there is PRAM
And of course, the .plist file
If it were Leopard, would I not have the same experience?

  • Battery indicator lights show full battery but won't turn on

I have an early 2008 non-unibody MacBook Pro. For about a year now, the status of the battery has been "replace soon." I was still getting a pretty good amount of time off of one charge so I wasn't too worried. This past Saturday morning, I woke up, checked the battery indicator lights on my computer (it had been sleeping since the day before) and it said it had about 60% percent so I opened it. I was on the Internet for about 10 minutes before it shut off without warning. It wouldn't turn back on when I pressed the power button, so I plugged it in and it turned back on. When I checked, the battery status was "replace now." After using it, I turned it back off and left for NYC for the weekend and didn't bring it with me. When I got home last night, I plugged it in and tried turning it on with no luck. The battery indicator light was flashing one light, so I just assumed it would need to charge for a bit before it would turn back on. After about two hours, when I went to bed, it still was flashing just one light. I kept it plugged in over night, and this morning when I checked it, the battery indicator lights showed that it was fully charged, but it still wouldn't turn on. I still kept it plugged in throughout the day just in case, but it still won't turn on even though all the lights are lit. Is the battery just showing me false information, or should I be worried about more than just the battery? Might I have to get a new computer altogether? I bought a replacement battery online so I'll have my answer in a few days, but I was just wondering.

And for what it's worth, I tried reseating the RAM and resetting the SMC, both with no luck. Could it be the logic board? The only reason I think it might not be is because my computer still worked a little bit after it first shut off, it was only after it was off for an extended period of time that it wouldn't turn back on.

  • Green battery indicator still flashing when battery is fully drained?

I'm currently calibrating my battery from my aluminum macbook (with removable battery) and drained the battery. The white front led isn't flashing anymore as expected according to the calibration guide.
However, after 2 days now I still see the battery indicator flashing 5 times when I press it. Does this mean the battery is not yet fully drained?
Quite strange because with my previous black Macbook, when the battery was fully drained, battery indicator on the bottom of the battery didn't flash when I pressed the button.

You really only need to let it sit for about 5 hours after it goes to sleep on its own. That will drain the power "enough". The blinking is normal as an indication that the battery is drained. Lithium Ion/Polymer batteries have circuitry which will prevent their charging if they discharge below a certain critical level. Once your machine has gone to sleep due to running low on power and you let it sit for about five hours after that, you can start to charge it up again. Basically, follow the instructions for calibrating the battery. You don't want the battery to sit fully discharged for any extended period of time.

  • Lightning bolt over the battery indicator flashes

What does it mean when charging and the lightning bolt over the battery indicator flashes??

It means that your phone is charging. When done charging, the lightning bolt disappears.

My iPhone 5 continues to shut off and on frequently. And the battery indicator is wrong. I've already tried to restore it and back it up. But still no solution.

To rule out a software issue, try to set it up as new device without using the latest backup:

How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
If this does not work, your problem might be hardware related and the phone needs to be checked. Given the age and use of the phone, you might have just get the battery replaced.

  • Battery indicator lights

    hi,
after having my logic bored replaced the battery indicator lights aren't working.
no matter the amount of charge when i press the button either the first light will flash, they will flash randomly or nothing will happen, does anyone know what the problem is?
this is the second logic board replacement because apples first attempt didn't work properly and now this happens lol :-/

I agree--keep after them until it's right. If another repair doesn't fix it, it may be worth asking if you could have a replacement machine on the theory that if the one you have still isn't fixed after 3 expensive repairs, it's not really worth continuing to put money into it, and it may ultimately be more cost effective for Apple to replace it.
    Good luck!

  • Since upgrade to 10.4.4, no sleep, no battery indicator, no airport

    1. iBook will no longer go to sleep, not from apple menu, not from power button, not from closing lid. Tried PMU reset. No luck.
    2. Since upgrade no battery indicator exists in menu bar. No longer an option to have it there in system preferences. Where did this go?
    3. Since software update done after upgrade Airport card no longer works. Internet connect says it's on. System profiler says it's off. Indicator is in menu bar, but no signal bars. Tried PMU reset, deleting locations, resetting wireless router. Other airport cards continue to work fine in our other Macs from the same router.
Using Classic is not an option on this machine. Help please.

    Hi,
In these situations it can pay to go to this list http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ and get the Combo installer to run the Update again (Unless of course you told Software Update to keep the .Pkg)
The actual Update will come with link ( In case http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxupdate1044.html ) which can be looked at for further info.

  • Is the battery indicator misleading??

    Hi all,
I just got the new iPod 30GB and I notice that right after it's been fully charged, when I just listen to music, within 10-15minutes the battery indicator goes from full to 3/4. It seems like the battery indicator shows the battery is getting less and less power. Do I have a defective iPod, or is this just the nature of the beast. I haven't let go all the way to the end, so I can't say whether it is actually losing it's charge, but the indicator appears that the battery is running out faster than what I'm used to with my old iPod. 10-15 minutes and the indicator going from full to 3/4 quarters seems a but fast right??
Is anyone else running into this problem? I am not playing much video on it, so it's generally playing music, but I hear the video playback uses alot more power and that battery runs out faster in that case. This would probably not apply in my case, as I took this under consideration when monitoring the issue.
Just would like to know whether this is just a display or software bug and I don't have to worry about the actual battery life running out...OR if I really do have a battery issue, I should run this back right away....
    Your advisement is greatly appreciated.

So I decided to fully charge the iPod, then run the stop watch and continously play music while timing the battery life. It's been six hours so far, and the battery indicator shows a spec of red, but totally empty. It's still going though. I'll let you know of the progress. It sounds to me though that this is a combination of a battery indicator light innacuracy, and having to charge and run the battery completely down a few times to get the battery working at good capacity. I haven't ran the battery all the way down yet, so this test would be the first time. I'll try and run this test with the stop watch on, a couple of times too and see if the battery life improves. I'm at 6 hours so far, and have not played any video, so according to Apple, I'm supposed to get up to 14 hours of continuous music, so we'll see how far it goes.
At least I'm not the only one, so I'm thinking this is just the nature of the beast as opposed to a defective product. But try out the test I'm doing, and see what comes up. What does your battery life truly go to......

  • Lumia 521 battery indicator after a turn off

    hi
i got a nokia lumia 521 a month ago , today i was with costumer support " t-mobile" and they asked me to turn of the phone pull the battery and take the sim card out , so i did , then they asked me to put everything back and turn it on so i did. but..... the phone didnt come up , by hitting / holding the power button , so i thought maybe my battery was very low when i turned it off , so i plugged my usb charger to the phone , now the phone does the following
when i plug the usb to the phone , the phone vibrates then goes to NOKIA then straight to the battery indicator with little red and a flashing on/off charging indicator , when i unplug the usb cable the phone turn off.

    Found the problem(S)
Like people on the other website, the issue is the copper piece on the batteryis not contacting with the phone. That's why the battery icon shows only when its plugged in and nothing at all when its not plugged in. All the complaints I read on the internet has just one problem. It just happens I got two on this phone.........
    1) I had to use a tiny needle to bend the copper piece out to ensure its making contact with the phone
    2) after I bent the copper piece, the battery is still not contacting right, (you can't really tell by looking at it, I was just trying everything people were saying on the web. I spent hours on it and I got it !!!)  I had to cut a business card to slide it underneath the battery. (2 business card thick). If u have same problem, u should try one card thick first.
Now the back cover feels like its swelling cuz of the business cards, but comparing to a $600+ phone, this $99 phone I can do everything I need it to, I can deal with that. Just wish I could have found the problem(s) sooner.
Hope this will help people with the same problem
Hey, this really helps, after looking for arkane solutions, I just add a piece of bend paper under the batery and it works... notice something,, the batery used to hace a plastic strip por pulling out.. this plastic strip got unglued so i removed, i see this plastic strip thinkness is needed for the wire copper piece to make contact... terrible design.
    thanks for the advice.

  • Low Battery Indicator - Please Turn It Off

How do you turn off the on-screen low battery indicator (other than changing the batteries in my remote which is working fine)?
I have STD box.  I don't have an HD Box or a DVR (just like most FIOS subscribers).  How has this update benefited us?
    Thanks ,

After you press a button on the remote you use with the set top that shows the "low battery" indicator on screen; does the top red LED on the remote flash multiple times?  If so, this is the remote indicating to you that the batteries are low, both by flashing that LED and by sending a code to the set top so IMG displays that indicator.
Supposing you could disable the indicator in IMG, then you would just end up with a non functional remote in a couple days.

  • Annoying bluetooth low battery indicator

How do I turn off the Bluetooth flashing low battery indicator in the menu bar? My mouse batteries are not low, but the bluetooth indicator has been flashing for several days, and every once in a while, I get a popup warning me that the mouse will stop functioning (which it doesn't).
I have turned off the "show bluetooth status in menu bar" option, but the low battery warning overrides it. I do not have any other bluetooth peripherals connected.

By the way, no. The problem is not like world hunger.
But I put up with a blinking light on my Apple 17" lcd monitor for years. That one, thankfully, I could cover with a sticky note. Unsightly, yes. Distractingly annoying, less so than having a computer named Mr. Blinkey!
So, when I bought my beautiful new Mac Pro recently, I bought a whole new Cinema display just so I wouldn't have the problem of something on my screen constantly blinking at me! However, to my horror and eternal suffering, my beatiful new screen blinks at me from the annoyingly unwanted bluetooth menu bar. Worse, I can't even use a sticky note to cover it!
Ugh! Apple! So close, yet so close...

  • Low Battery indicator issue

When my battery became low on my blackberry 8330, the amber LED began to blink, indicating the battery needs to be charged.  I turned off the device but didn't charge it.  When I turned the device on several hours later, the amber LED blinked only for a few moments then stopped, but the battery indicator on the screen still stated that the battery was low.  I turned the device off then back on again, and the same thing happened, the amber LED flashed only for a moment then stopped.  I then got a message on the e-mail the device is linked to, causing the red LED to flash, but when the red LED started flashing, the amber one started flashing too.  I've seen several messages about the inconsistancy of the LED indicators, but haven't heard anything about the battery indicator.  Anyone know what the issue is or how to resolve it?

Try a reset by pulling the battery leave it out for 30 sec and then re-install it.  If this does not correct your problem, I would go to the store where you bought it and ask to try another battery to see if this corrects the problem.  If not, swap the device out for a new one.  you get a one year mfg warranty aganist defects of this type.

  • Brand new ipod nano will work when attached by cable either to a power adaptor or usb port but stops immediately when disconnected, despite being put on charge with different adaptors. Battery indicator remains constantly on lightning flas symbol and whit

My Brand New ipod nano (sold to me two days ago by Apple as replacement for previous ipod nano -15 months old and therefore out of warranty - which had suddenly stopped functioning altogether) will operate only when attached by cable to either power adapter, usb port on my laptop or when playing on a docking station. When detached, it stops playing and screen goes dark and it will not respond to any buttons, despite being charged several times for many hours on different chargers. The battery indicator stays on lightning flash symbol on white background and has only momentarily shown fully charged symbol once !
I am baffled as to why this new ipod has a similar problem to the old ipod.
Is there a virus out there which can have this effect and which I may have picked up on my Pc and have inadvertently transferred to both ipods when sync-ing ?
My PC has Norton anti-virus software.
    Any suggestions , please ?

Sounds like the Nano has a faulty battery.  You should be able to have Apple swap it out again for you at no cost.

  • N95 Battery Indicator Issue

    Hello,
It seems that my battery indicator for my new N95 has stoped indicating anything! Keeps showing a fully loaded battery until it completely drains from usage...
Has anyone else had this problem? I already upgraded the firmware and the problem remains...
    Any advice or comment?
    Thank you in advance,
    Ricardo

    No problem my friend.
If you have already flashed your phone to the V11 software that was released a few weeks ago, then just follow this procedure again and put the same software on the phone again. However, after you flash it, perform a factory reset.
Go: Tools --> Settings --> General --> Factory settings.
This should clean out and reset the phone back to the way it was first delivered.
You will have to re-install your maps again and put all of your software on again, but I did this and things seem to be working for me.
    Good luck.

  • Mbp late 2011 battery indicator light question

The mbp will not boot or turn on.
Without being connected to a power source, none of the battery indicator lights come on when I push the little battery indicator light button.
Once I plug in the power cord and push the little battery indicator light button, the very left battery indicator light flashes on and off green.
    What does this mean?
I have detached the battery and re-attached the battery adapter to no avail. (Using the following instructions: http://www.spathi.net/tech-support/macbook-pro-wont-turn-on-charge-light-blinkin g-orange/)
