Battery indicator seems to be incorrect

Hey,
i recently experienced the following problem: As i switched on my ipod after a longer period (1 1/2 weeks) of not using it, the battery status was indicated half full. Strangely the ipod switched of after only 2 minutes of usage. My Question is if there’s a possibility to recalibrate the battery indicator to avoid such problems in future. Greetings

Check this out.

iPhone 5S 64GB, just over one year old.  iOS 8.0.2 (12A405).
Battery indicator seems to have gone really weird - it'll be displaying anything from 10-25% and then the phone will just switch off and need charging.  It'll then come back on (after a short charge) and the indicator will be where it was when it switched off.
I've tried a full discharge and recharge, not disconnecting until at 100%, and then a phone reset.  Also tried charging using a selection of chargers, including my MBP, but this has been going on for a few weeks now...

  • IPod touch incorrect battery indicator?

I've had my iTouch for almost 2 years, and last year I realized that the battery indicator is incorrect. if i use my ipod 2 hours straight the battery would be competely drained and it'd turn off. but if i turn it on in 15 mins the battery would be up to 40% . plus when im using it i notice that the battery bar goes down quickly but if i leave it, it increases. its obvious that the indicator is incorrect and i think this is some sort of malfunction because almost all of my friends have the same problem, is there anyway i could fix this WITHOUT replacing my battery?
    Thanks in advance :)

    You have two separate issues.
Inaccuracy of the indicator, and the fact that it indicator rises to a higher level after you leave it turned off.
The battery runs down after just two hours.
       1.  Are we to assume that when you mention the percentage figure, you are approximating, because as lllaass has mentioned, the iPod does not have a percentage indicator? Any such indication will be from an App, and it should not be regarded as accurate. Even the Apple indicator is just that - an indication.
Regardless of that, to understand why the indicator is higher after leaving the iPod turned off for a while, imagine you go for a fast run. Eventually, you will run out of puff and stop running. At that point, you need to rest for a while, after which you will be able to run a bit further. Eventually, you will have to stop once again, until you recover your breath. Each time you start running again, you will run less distance before running out of energy. A battery is just like that. You use it, it runs out of energy. You turn the iPod off and the therefore stop using the battery and it will recover - a bit. When you start using the battery once again, it will not be long before it runs down again. Eventually, it will have no energy left - until you feed it.
So that behaviour from your battery is normal.
       2.  The length of time you use the iPod (and battery) before it runs down. You haven't mentioned whether you fully charged the battery before deciding that two hours was its maximum run time. So the obvious question is: did you fully charge it before running this experiment? If not, the result is of no use at all.
However, even if you fully charge the battery and then assess it's running time, it really depends on what you are doing and how the iPod is set.
If you're playing an online game (so the screen is permanently on and you are using the Wi-Fi connection all the time), that will run the battery down much faster than if you start some music (that's on the iPod) playing, and then let the screen turn off while it plays. In other words, having the screen on will drain the battery at a faster rate.
Even if you are simply playing music, if you have the screen on while listening, either because you have set the "screen off" time for a long period, or because you listen to the music while you browse your other music, or browse online etc. etc., then once again, that will run the battery down at a much faster rate.
If you only part-charge the battery before using it again, it will not last as long as if you fully charge it.

  • 1020 Battery Indicator Dipped & Recovered After Re...

I've a month old Lumia 1020, among the first few in my country to own the phone during a prelaunch sales.
I've had this battery indicator issue since I've been using the phone, but it only occurs intermittently.
I charge the phone using Qi charger, usually JBL speaker if not the stand.
Right after full charge & removed from the charger, the battery drops very fast until 68% in less than 30min then it stays at that level for as long as I let it idle.
Once I restart the phone, the battery indicator will jump right back to 100%, this puzzles me as I thought something is draining the battery real fast (I was suspecting Skydrive backup but it happens even i didn't enable data/WiFi).
The restart recovery of the battery indicator cleared my doubt on apps draining the battery, no apps were draining it but the indicator was incorrectly shown.
I'm not sure if this is just a bug in Windows Phone, my Lumia 920 doesn't have this issue.
    Anyone else has this problem?

doesn't work after monitoring it for 2 weeks with a few soft resets in between.
still happening intermittently, apparently i'm not the only one having this issue as there're a few threads were created but unattended with any response.
seems like a bug in the firmware to me & maybe phone dependant.

  • IPhone 5 Battery Indicator and Reboot issues

    Hello Apple community forum,
I have an iPhone 5 that I purchased approximately 20 months ago. It has worked flawlessly and been well taken care of. Only until recently, maybe 3 weeks after I updated to IOS update 7.1.1, I have been having a plethora of issues and now the phone is virtual useless. I have not jailbroken it or have had any third party hardware installed. It all started when I plugged in my Apple lightening cable for charging and an error appeared "unsupported charging cable". From there I have experienced the following problems:
Battery indicator stuck while charging at any various percentage or during normal use and standby. Only a reboot will provide current charge status.
    Extremely fast battery drain.
Unexpected reboots at various intervals or while accessing Apps or browsers. Sometimes very frequent. One day had at least 60 reboots. one right after the other.
    Cannot turn on or off
Shuts off when I put it in my pocket.
    BSOD (Blue Screen of Death)
Screen exhibits lines or odd characters shuts down or reboots.
Time and date at different positions post boot.
Log file full of errors. (Panaic.ips bug type 110 | awdd Wireless | ResetCounter bug type 115| TCCService bug type 167 | Log-Aggregated bug type 193)
The update worked great on the phone and it seemed faster and the battery lasted a bit longer than usual. However, now it is a different story. I was able to backup my phone and offload all my photos on its good day. I was reading the support site and following a few of these forums. I follow the soft and hard rest procedures and even restored the phone back to factory default (DFU mode). It does seem to run a bit better in default without many apps on it but it still exhibits all the above issues. I bit the bullet and went to the Apple store to talk to one of there G men. He acted surprised and gave me the Apple trained verbal run around. He ran the diagnostic and stated that my battery did not even register as being in the system. From there he opened the phone, inspected it for damage and re-attached the battery and taped it back down. BTW, they hosed my screen cover. Nothing is ever free. They did offer to replace my battery for $80 but did not feel that would solve this problem. If anyone has had this issue and did have a new battery installed, please let me know how that worked out.
I wonder if this latest update exposes some type of hardware flaw that was previously fixed or just a bug(s) in the software code. Yet, Apple does not seem to acknowledge there is a problem let alone advise to any upcoming fix. It does not seem that Apple really cares about my little bit of business. If anyone has any ideas or experience, please let me know. This is frustrating and owning too much of my time. Thanks Apple!

If tried techniques to get the battery to act right, such as rebooting by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears and it restarts, and those things haven't helped, take the iPhone and iPad to the Apple store genius bar and have the technicians test them to see if there is a hardware fault.  Do that before the warranty runs out so you are covered.

  • Is the battery indicator misleading??

    Hi all,
I just got the new iPod 30GB and I notice that right after it's been fully charged, when I just listen to music, within 10-15minutes the battery indicator goes from full to 3/4. It seems like the battery indicator shows the battery is getting less and less power. Do I have a defective iPod, or is this just the nature of the beast. I haven't let go all the way to the end, so I can't say whether it is actually losing it's charge, but the indicator appears that the battery is running out faster than what I'm used to with my old iPod. 10-15 minutes and the indicator going from full to 3/4 quarters seems a but fast right??
Is anyone else running into this problem? I am not playing much video on it, so it's generally playing music, but I hear the video playback uses alot more power and that battery runs out faster in that case. This would probably not apply in my case, as I took this under consideration when monitoring the issue.
Just would like to know whether this is just a display or software bug and I don't have to worry about the actual battery life running out...OR if I really do have a battery issue, I should run this back right away....
    Your advisement is greatly appreciated.

So I decided to fully charge the iPod, then run the stop watch and continously play music while timing the battery life. It's been six hours so far, and the battery indicator shows a spec of red, but totally empty. It's still going though. I'll let you know of the progress. It sounds to me though that this is a combination of a battery indicator light innacuracy, and having to charge and run the battery completely down a few times to get the battery working at good capacity. I haven't ran the battery all the way down yet, so this test would be the first time. I'll try and run this test with the stop watch on, a couple of times too and see if the battery life improves. I'm at 6 hours so far, and have not played any video, so according to Apple, I'm supposed to get up to 14 hours of continuous music, so we'll see how far it goes.
At least I'm not the only one, so I'm thinking this is just the nature of the beast as opposed to a defective product. But try out the test I'm doing, and see what comes up. What does your battery life truly go to......

  • Battery doesnt seem to be charging

As the tittle ays really. My IP4 battery doesnt seem to be charging.
Last night I allowed it to run completely flat until it switched itself off so it could calibrate the battery.
Plugged it in to charge and went to bed. Some 9 hours later, switched it on and it's only showing 3% ... Yep the mains was switched on lol
Defuncd battery maybe? Not sure as it seemed to take ages for the battery to run flat

In fact if you run it totaly empty it will be damaged beyond repair. The idear this calibrates the battery is wrong. This type of battery likes to be topped up oftern it will however take a week or so of use befour reaching peek efficiency
    You are 100% incorrect.
Please read the Apple advice on batteries here:
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html
    It specifically states:
    _Use iPhone Regularly_
For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. _*Be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).*_
Not sure that can be much clearer.

  • Mighty Mouse wireless: changing the setting of the low battery indicator

    Hi,
It seems that the low battery indicator for the wireless mighty mouse appears when the battery level goes under 30%. Is it possible to change this setting, e.g. make it occur when it passes the 5% of remaining battery?
    Thanks!

I fully agree with Tibo. I'd like to change this setting as well.
This low battery warning may be a good heads-up for someone who feeds their MM cheap batteries but, I got two Energizer AA Lithium batteries in mine and it literally "keeps going and going..." consistently for weeks while constantly receiving the annoying low battery warning.
Come on, users a perfectly capable of deciding what is fair-warning on the life of batteries we feed the MM.

  • Strange battery indicator problem....

I'm having a very weird problem with my iPod, any help would be greatly appreciated!
I recieved an iPod Video 80gig as a replacement under the Best Buy replacement plan. At first I was very happy, as I had turned in a 40gig photo...so it was a nice upgrade.
But I soon realized something was wrong. The iPod simply wouldn't charge beyond a certain point, about 3/4 up the indicator. I would have it charge for days, on both a USB and AC adaptor charger, and it would never complete charging. From there, the battery began to hold no charge.
Figuring it was just a bad battery, I paid to have it replaced. I was sure this would fix the problem, but it seems it hasn't. Once again, it won't charge beyond about 3/4 of the bar, no matter how long it charges. It will play fine, but the battery seems to drain at a progressed rate...not as bad as before I had the battery replaced, but still quicker than it should.
Strange this is, the place I sent it to, to replace the battery, did a test to make sure nothing else major was wrong with it. But nothing turned up.
What the heck is going on with my iPod? Is it actually fully charging and just not showing it? But still, something seems wrong. Maybe I just got a bad iPod back. I plan on returning it to BestBuy for yet another, but I would love to hear anybodies theory on this or if anybody else has had the same problem.
    Thanks in advance!
    iPod Photo 80gig   Windows ME

dk07, glad to know I'm not the only one having this problem. I hope you can get it figured out as well. It is very frustrating.
Jeff, I appreciate the links, but I've been over those first two quite a few times, with no success. The last one is a bit more interesting though.
I guess what I mean to ask is; Is it possible that my iPod is actually charging all the way, even if I never get a "plug" icon and the bar never goes above 3/4 on the battery indicator, no matter how long I charge it? Can the battery indicator be 'that' off? I have yet to run into a help topic or tutorial that addresses specifically an iPod (with a brand new battery) never switching to the plug icon or never going beyond a 3/4 bar. I am willing to accept that the battery indicator may be inaccurate as to the actual charge, but the specific issues seem not to be as common as the general one; and that is what bugs me.

  • [SOLVED] Gnome 3 Battery Indicator Missing

I've been using Arch on my desktop for a few years now, and as of a couple months ago I'm also running Arch on my HP dv8000t laptop. When i log into Gnome 3 the battery/charge indicator is missing from the icons in the upper right-hand corner. I know it was there for some time just after installing Arch, but since then it seems to have randomly disappeared. I thought I killed it with an update but since nobody else seems to have this problem, I'm not too sure any more. To further confuse things, GDM shows the battery indicator just fine, it's only after I log in that it is missing. This seems to point to it being a problem with some configuration in my home directory, but I don't know enough about gnome 3 to know what hidden folder to look under. Running 'acpi' from the command line gives me a battery percent remaining, but not a remaining time estimate (however, I've never had any OS on this laptop give a remaining time estimate so that's not a big problem for me).
Basically, I'm looking for a) software that might conflict with the icon and cause it to not show up or b) a configuration file where it may have gotten disabled.
After submitting this post, I'm going to create a brand new user and log into it as a test of whether it's a configuration in my home directory or not.
Edit: I just created a new user and the battery indicator worked for it, which means it's probably something with my profile. I also forgot to mention that at the same time as the battery icon disappeared, my volume hotkeys stopped working.

For anyone having similar problems, I discovered there was a permissions issue with my ~/.config/dconf/* files. I ended up just deleting mine and re-setting my settings (since I had only tweaked a couple) but I assume changing permissions back to something that my user could read from would also work.
What baffled me for the longest time was that there weren't (or I couldn't find) any error logs telling me dconf couldn't hit that file, which is why I never thought to check. Anyway, all is well now!

  • Why has the big battery indicator disappeared?

My iPod Touch (IOS 6.1.3) no longer shows the big battery indicator when the iPod is turned on or plugged in for a recharge.  The battery seems to charge ok according to the tiny battery indicator but the big indicator has disappeared for good.  Also, when plugged in, the tiny indicator doesn't show charging is taking place.
In addition, the device no longer shows up in iTunes and doesn;t sync.  I suspected a defective cable but chraging does seem to work.  Have tried recycling power to no efect.

  • Time from 100% battery indicator downward?

I charge my ipad 3 overnight to give it a full 7-8 hour charge, using the wall charger and cable that the device came with.  I then try to gauge how much time from when the battery indicator drops to 99%, then 98%, etc., calculating the intervals.
I do this as a means of extrapolating for all 100 percentage units how much battery time in total the unit would last until the battery is completely exhausted, and I've been coming up with roughly 8.5 hours for watching videos on the ipad (not streamed) at between 90-100% brightness setting, and about 10 hours for surfing the web using cellular or wifi service.  The cellular seems to drain a bit faster.
Has anyone one else also tested their battery - I'm curious to compare units.

  • Strange behaviour of battery indicator

It seems, my battery finally has reached its full capacity. Three to four days of normal use is acceptable for me.
But the capacity indicator is worrying me. It shows full capacity for about two days, then it starts rushing down to empty in one day....

  • Another battery indicator issue-- not 1.1.1 related

Sorry if this is a repeat. I searched for this and didn't find it, though it seems like something that should have been reported before. Am both asking if others have the issue/how it was solved and offering my experience as possible help.
3 week old phone. Firmware 1.0.2 (never updated to 1.1.1, not a downgrade). Never hacked.
Phone has been working fine, was getting 100% charge, plug icon achieved w/ full green glowing icon when charged. Usage after my last full charge: probably 2-3 hours phone, frequent mail, some wi-fi, standby for 2.5 days.
Bluetooth on all the time, wi-fi only on during use, screen brightness turned down to ~30%, manual mail checking only, usually in excellent reception areas so phone not constantly searching for signal.
Put phone to sleep last night w/ battery indicator @ ~50%. When tried waking phone this morning it, for the first time, showed message saying phone needed to be plugged in and showed the large battery icon with a very thin red line representing charge remaining and turned itself off. So I plugged the phone into the wall adapter and the charging icon came on with a sliver of red (slightly wider than when not plugged in).
Did some reading online and unplugged the phone maybe 10 minutes after plugging it in-- with charge icon still showing thin red area, unchanged from initially. After unplugging the small menu icon had a red sliver of charge showing but the phone did not automatically turn off, though that was for only maybe 10 seconds or so.
Then I did a reset w/ menu-sleep buttons. After the phone rebooted there is maybe 40% of battery life on menu indicator. I replugged the phone into the wall charger for a better look and the large icon shows about the same-- 40%. I unplugged phone immediately and have been monitoring it for about an hour. Still at roughly 40% and phone function working normally as does everything else, including video-- though that drains battery indicator pretty quickly.
I know that there is rapid charge when first plugged in but I don't think that 10 minutes would take it from the 10% shutoff point to this degree of charge. My guess is that it's an intermittent problem with the phone's internal battery sensing abilities which gets reset with a phone reset.
The good news is that the phone is functional when it thinks it's not. The bad news is that a) a reset is a mild pain in the neck. (Could be that just fully turning the phone off and restarting it would have worked but I didn't try that. Other than losing usage data I don't know what else one loses with a reset.)
and b) it is unnerving to not be able to trust the battery indicator, especially when one isn't near a convenient charging option.
So, anyone else had this same issue? Thoughts, fixes?
    Thanks
    Steve
