Battery indicator showing fully charged when plugged in but battery percentage is not

I've had the iPhone 5 for about 6 months now and starting about a week ago the battery started messing up.  I plug in my phone to charge and the indicator at the top right shows the fully charged indicator when the battery percentage is clearly not 100%.  Randomly it will switch to the charging indicator and actually charge but otherwise it stays like that and just continues to lose battery while it is plugged in.  I've tried my friend's charger and it still does the same thing so it's not the charger that is malfunctioning.

Seems like battery is faulty. Make Genius reservation or set up service and take or send to Apple for resolution under Warranty.

I plug my phone in, using the usb cable and charger provided with the phone. The lightning bolt shows indicating is sees the ac charger, however, the battery screen shows "not Charging". I power cycle the phone and it still happens. I turn the phone off, and the battery indicator shows that it is plugged in, but the charge percentage never changes. Any assistance with this issue would be greatly appreciated!

Let's give you back the power to power your phone, kwtoman! Thanks to Ann154 for getting the conversation going! While it is always good to use the original charger, have you tested another approved charger? Did this start after installing a new app or update? How long have you had the device?

Yes. Charging automatically stops when your battery is full, & you can't overcharge.

  • Battery is dead, but Shows fully charged w/AC

I am having a strange problem... My battery is dead and won' actually charge. When I plug it in to the AC charger, it simply shows that the battery is fully charged. As soon as I unplug the charger, the Ipod instantly zaps off. I cannot get anything when I have it plug ged to USB. Computer doesn't recognize anything and the Ipod shows a battery icon with a crossed-out circle and the words "Plas Wait. Very low battery." Then there is the Apple wait spinning thing below. But, I never get past this screen.
So this all causes me to not sync my Ipod. The Ipod is fully functioning when plugged via AC charger, but as soon as it leaves it's life support, it is DEAD.
Please help me find the solution to this problem. It will save me a big headache, trust me!

I'm having the exact same problem, any help would be very much appreciated.

My iPad wont charge when plugged into a computer, the battery isn't lasting long, and its getting hot when charging

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • My original Ipod 30gb will not charge when plugged in (suspect battery completely dead...). Help

My orignal 30gb ipod will not charge when plugged in to a power socket. I think the battery has completely run down. Any thoughts?

Which model is this iPod.  The "original" iPod was 5GB or 10GB, so this must be a 3rd gen iPod, at the earliest.  This document shows all the iPod models.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1353
If it's a 3rd gen iPod, it has a dock connector, but it needs to be connected to a FireWire port to charge.  It does not charge from a USB port.

    Hello alleyfun
For issues with your iPhone not charging, check out the troubleshooting below to see if you can get it sorted out and working again.

    Resolving issues
If your battery doesn't charge, or if your device shows a low-battery image, black screen, or "accessory not supported" alert, follow these steps.
Inspect the connector at the bottom of the phone:
Make sure that there are no bent pins in the connector.
Make sure that the connector is free from debris.
If there are bent pins or debris, please contact Apple Support.
    Otherwise, continue troubleshooting.
Make sure that the outlet you're using works.
Make sure that the Apple USB cable and Apple USB power adapter work.
Plug the device in to power and let it charge until your device turns on. This could take between 10 and 30 minutes. If you don't have an Apple USB power adapter, try connecting to a computer's high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be on.
If the device still exhibits an issue, try turning your device off and then on again while connected to power.
If the issue persists, please contact Apple Support.

There is a hardware problem.  Whether it's worth it to you to have no working phone for 2 months until you can update vs paying for replacement/repair now is a question only you can answer.

Nonsense, and very misleading advice.  I've updated iPhone 3G, 3Gs,and 4  through itunes many times, never had a problem once, not with one single update in nearly 5 years of iPhones.  Of course, I've never jailbroken my phones either.  Hack your phone and have update problems?  I've got news for you, the problems are not a result of iTunes or Apple's updates.

  • Battery reporting it is fully charged when it isn't

    Hello,
Read through some of the forum posts last night and this morning to see if my question was answered but didn't really see anything. Here is the issue:
    Problem:
Macbook Pro's Battery is reporting that it is fully charged when it isn't. This is displayed on both the Energy Settings under System Prefs and on the On Board Battery Meter. Issue started yesterday afternoon. If I unplug my machine from the charger, it'll last for all of a minute before it turns itself off.
I have tried multiple reboots, system updates and have even gone as far as clearing the SMC, none of these "fixes" worked. I do let the battery cycle all the way down till I get the "Low Power" notification before switching over to the power adapter on a daily basis. I believe that this is a hardware issue on the battery end since it itself is reporting a full charge.
Bought the unit back in February 2008, so I am well within my warranty, but thought I would get some ideas before I head into the store today.

    Welcome to the Forums!
Thanks for looking for the answer first - it's tough without the search function (which has been temporarily disabled).
Definitely take it in for service, as a brody suggests.
One side note (and the reason for this post) - you state +"I do let the battery cycle all the way down till I get the "Low Power" notification before switching over to the power adapter on a daily basis."+ This is actually quite bad for lithium-based batteries like the one in your MBP. Nickel-based batteries (NiCd, NiMH) have a 'memory' and need to be used like that. Li-based batteries have no 'memory', and full discharges are actually bad for them. Frequent, light usage is best.
Hope this helps (with your next battery!)...
