Battery indicator shows strange remaining time

Hi, I got a new Macbook pro lately, after I used it for 3 week  I notice that this week that something is wrong with the battery indicator.
I got really high remaining time (sometimes more than 15 hours while battery is on 85%).
This is the power diagnostic:

You might run an Apple hardware Test:

This might develop a clue.
However the best course of action is to make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar.  Your MBP is still under warranty, so take advantage of it.
Ciao.

Took apart Macbook pro 13 to remove broken headphone tip in the jack. Had to remove battery to get to the headphone jack. Now the laptop won't start. The power button is just not responding. Battery indicator showed charge of 3 dots initially but now only the last dot is blinking. The power cable used to light up green initially but now the green light is gone. I have tried SMC reset, which didn't work. What are my options?

  • Battery indicator showing fully charged when plugged in but battery percentage is not

I've had the iPhone 5 for about 6 months now and starting about a week ago the battery started messing up.  I plug in my phone to charge and the indicator at the top right shows the fully charged indicator when the battery percentage is clearly not 100%.  Randomly it will switch to the charging indicator and actually charge but otherwise it stays like that and just continues to lose battery while it is plugged in.  I've tried my friend's charger and it still does the same thing so it's not the charger that is malfunctioning.

Seems like battery is faulty. Make Genius reservation or set up service and take or send to Apple for resolution under Warranty.

  • Brand new battery:  indicator showing increasing

Just got a new battery a week ago.  With the new battery fully charged and disconnected from the charger, the indicator is going up and down like a yo-yo.  The time left will change by 20 minutes or more, within 30 seconds of the prior estimate.  I uninstalled Adobe Flash per other posts.  The laptop will shut-down when I close the lid and leave it overnight because the battery will drain down to 14 or less minutes.

Thanks for the tip!  I reset the SMC and captued this info.  The left column is the time left on the battery.  The right column is the timestamp.  So I still think I have a problem.  Not doing any heavy processing, simply entering into the spreadsheet while looking at products on amazon.

  • After installing Mountain Lion the battery indicator shows only 99% charge though charging for the whole night.

    Hi,
I have been using MacBook Pro mid 2010 and recently I upgraded my OS from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. Since then whenever I charge my computer it stops charging at 99% but when I was using Snow Leopard it use to fully charge to 100%. Does installing the new OS preventing it to charge to 100% or something is wrong with the hardware.
    Thank you
    Regards

Thanks for the reference. Still one thing I am not able to understand is that in Snow Leopard after the full charge it use to show 100% so why not in Mountain Lion. Snow Leopard is also a advance OS and if that is the case then the feature of not charging to the full capacity should exist.

  • Extreme anomaly with iPod Touch battery indicator

I have a 1st generation iPod Touch running iOS 3.1.3.  I never noticed a problem with the battery indicator before.  After last night, however, there seemed to be a tremendous (albeit temporary) anomaly with the battery indicator.  I googled it, but found that most fluctuations in the battery indicator were random and minor compared to what I saw.  Some were due to extreme power draw on the battery.  None of what I found matched my rather unusual circumstances.
Here are the cirumstances.  I live in a noisy apartment building, so I repeated play a noise track on the iTouch to mask out the noise from other dwellings.  The iTouch is docked onto a mini boombox, RCA's RCD175i (http://tinyurl.com/bolurw7), which charges the iTouch as it plays tracks.  I also wear earplugs at night, so I crank the RCD175i's volume to be able to hear the noise track (the iTouch's volume is set to max).  This solution is only partially effective, but that's not central to my description of the problem.
Last night, I was particularly anxious about getting rest, so I cranked the RCD175i's volume significantly more than usual.  I was shocked to find in the morning that the battery indicator showed approximately 20%, even though the charging indicator was showing.  I removed the iTouch and plugged it into the Apple white cable that connects to my laptop's USB, hoping to give it a bit of juice before I took off for the day.  Nothing much changed by the time I unplugged the iTouch to leave.  At the end of the day, however, the battery showed a full charge.
This anomaly does not fit what I found on google because:
    • The power draw was no more than usual
    • It was far greater than the fluctuations I read about
    • It doesn't happen randomly (never happened before)
    • It happened when I docked it on the RCD175i and cranked the volume
    • I have never jailbroken the iTouch
If I had to make a wild guess as to the problem, I would say that the RCD175i's docking interface is improperly designed, which messes with the RCD175i's charging calibration.  Having the volume set high might cause noise to propagate through the dock to the iTouch, maybe degrade recharging voltages/currents being fed to the iTouch, or corrupt feedback signals that control the charging (if any are used).  These are all wild guesses because I have no idea how the iTouch's charging system operates.
    I'd like to ask anyone:
    • for comments on the above speculation and/or solutions
    • for other plausible causes and/or solutions
    • whether they notice a correlation between battery indicator anomalies and docking the iTouch on 3rd party audio systems
    • whether they use the RCD175i specifically and have the same problem with high volume on the RCD175i

I'm beginning to notice a pattern.  When I plug it in to the laptop USB port or to the boombox iPod dock, the battery charge indicator shows about 20%.  I never noticed that before.  When I remove the iPod Touch from the connection, after some (yet undetermined) time, it may go back to 100%.
This seems like a recent behavioural quirk, along with another quirk that seems to have come up at around the same time.  Whenever I plug the iPod Touch into the laptop USB port, I get an autoplay window coming up, which I just banish.  However, it is strange that this has never happened before this strange turn in behaviour with the iPod Touch.

  • Lumia 820 battery indicator problems

I have some problems with the battery indicator. Sometimes it freezes at random percentages. Ex: i charged my phone; the battery indicator shows 100% and it remains at 100% even though i use the phone for many hours. I know the battery is not full and the indicator changes only when the battery reaches critically low level. Some other times it freezes at 77 or so. Ex2: during charging the indicator shows actual battery level(let's say 25%). But if i try listening some music, the indicator goes instantly to 100%.
i find these software problems a little bit annoying.
    Solved!

    hi mate,
have you tried performing a soft reset (pressing the volume down and power buttons together until the phone vibrates)? also ensure that you have the latest Nokia system app updates installed from the Store. have you also taken your battery out and replaced it after ten minutes. failing that, you may need to perform a hard reset (Settings > About > Reset your phone). make a backup before doing this to PC and/or online storage first of your data, as a hard reset wipes all data.
Failing the above, you will need to take your phone to your local Nokia Care for inspection: http://nokia.com/support

  • Battery gauge showing empty when there's lots of charge left

I have a new 80GB 5G and after about 4 hours the battery indicator shows red and almost drained, but I've watched over 4 hours of video after that before the thing actually dies. What can I do to make the battery indicator at least a bit more accurate? It at least shouldn't be red unless it REALLY needs charge?

There's nothing really that you can od about it, if
anything, a restore (a restart first). This happens
to me though too. I recently used my iPod during a
hockey tournament trip on a charter bus, and played
my iPod through the VCR of the bus. I had maybe like
an almost red bar of life left on my iPod. It was
green, but 1 or 2 notches lower would have been red.
I got through about 1 and 3/4 movies before it
"died". After disconnected my iPod from it (right
after it "died") I went back to my seat, turned it
on, and listened to music for another half hour or
    so.
So what you're seeing is pretty normal as far as I
can see. I remember a specific time when I had half
battery life left onhte gauge and was watching videos
on it with my friend (not connected to tv) and shot
down to red quite fast, but we got through 2 movies
and maybe more in the red zone.
Ok, cool. That was my main concern (whether this was normal and others had the same thing happen). Wow. Well, that's annoying but also presumably something they could improve via software. So, I'll just leave feedback for Apple on it and go happily on my way. As long as it's normal I'm not worried. Just seemed strange, especially since on my Nano, the battery gauge is pretty darn accurate.
    Thanks Erick!

  • Is the battery indicator misleading??

    Hi all,
I just got the new iPod 30GB and I notice that right after it's been fully charged, when I just listen to music, within 10-15minutes the battery indicator goes from full to 3/4. It seems like the battery indicator shows the battery is getting less and less power. Do I have a defective iPod, or is this just the nature of the beast. I haven't let go all the way to the end, so I can't say whether it is actually losing it's charge, but the indicator appears that the battery is running out faster than what I'm used to with my old iPod. 10-15 minutes and the indicator going from full to 3/4 quarters seems a but fast right??
Is anyone else running into this problem? I am not playing much video on it, so it's generally playing music, but I hear the video playback uses alot more power and that battery runs out faster in that case. This would probably not apply in my case, as I took this under consideration when monitoring the issue.
Just would like to know whether this is just a display or software bug and I don't have to worry about the actual battery life running out...OR if I really do have a battery issue, I should run this back right away....
    Your advisement is greatly appreciated.

So I decided to fully charge the iPod, then run the stop watch and continously play music while timing the battery life. It's been six hours so far, and the battery indicator shows a spec of red, but totally empty. It's still going though. I'll let you know of the progress. It sounds to me though that this is a combination of a battery indicator light innacuracy, and having to charge and run the battery completely down a few times to get the battery working at good capacity. I haven't ran the battery all the way down yet, so this test would be the first time. I'll try and run this test with the stop watch on, a couple of times too and see if the battery life improves. I'm at 6 hours so far, and have not played any video, so according to Apple, I'm supposed to get up to 14 hours of continuous music, so we'll see how far it goes.
At least I'm not the only one, so I'm thinking this is just the nature of the beast as opposed to a defective product. But try out the test I'm doing, and see what comes up. What does your battery life truly go to......

  • N97 NAM Battery Indicator Problem

Hi, my Nokia N97's battery indicator does not seem to work anymore.  It always shows full until the battery runs out and then the device shuts off.  The battery indicator did work the very first time I tried it.  I fully charged it and then after leaving the phone on overnight, the device had shut itself off.  I assumed it was because the phone ran out of battery so I recharged it.  After 3 hours of charging, I decided to disconnect the device from the charger and thats when the battery indicator stopped working.  It's been showing full bars the entire day, even after heavy usage.  I tried a reset (*#7370#) but that didn't fix it.  The phone is fine, just the battery indicator doesn't seem to work.  Also, after doing the reset, I lost the Ngage games.  Does anyone know how to fix this battery problem and retreive the Ngage games that came with the phone.  Thanks!

I have Very similar problem. Battery indicator shows full for a day, two even once for 4 days! And on th next day it starts RAPIDLY going down it is hard to finish the day without recharge.
It is VERY annoying as all my phones warn me at least a day before ran out of power (E71 is Very Good example) .
    I am with 12-th FW

  • Why can't I see the remaining time anymore in playback?

I noticed about a week ago that when playing a song in iTunes, it shows the elapsed time but no longer shows the remaining time; instead it just keeps the total time listed. It's more of an annoyance than something terribly important, but is there a way to fix that? I like being able to immediately see how much time is left. And it only happens in music, not my podcasts.

Click the time value to toggle between total time and time remaining.

  • Battery indicator problem!

I have a nokia x6 and i have a problem. The battery indicator shows full battery until 30% left. (i used bettery monitor application.) and ther rest of the battery indicator lines dissapear very quickly. It happens in my E72 and 5320 xpressmusic too. What can i do for a more precise battery information?

The standard battery indicator is never going very accurate. However, you can try to make it a little more accurate by occassionally allowing the battery to run down and only charge when it beeps low battery. There is no need to wait for the phone to turn off as this could lead to other problems.
