Battery is draining like crazy!!!

I haven't had this happen yet, but I haven't used my phone much today, and i'm about 30 minutes from leaving work and it's saying there's only 20% left! ***!
Has anyone had any problems where the phone starts losing power with extremely limited use?

AFAIK, the iPhone battery does not require the conditioning you describe. This is something that's recommended for Apple notebooks to help calibrate the battery sensing when the notebook is new, or upon battery replacement. A periodic complete discharging of the notebook battery is needed only when the user tends to keep it plugged in much of the time. This allows the battery to get some 'exercise', so to speak. But the mode of use for a phone is quite different from a notebook and, therefore, it's not likely to spend as much time plugged in.
I think the folks at your Apple Store are well-meaning, but are getting their subject matter confused.
Of course, if anyone wants to follow this procedure as a sort of placebo, then by all means... But keep in mind that batteries have a fixed cycle life, so you may wish to make sure the phone is used productively while in pursuit of its 'conditioning'.

Are there apps on your phone right now?
I think one of your apps is causing this.
The only way to find out is to delete them all and then add them one by one to see what app maybe causing this.
Especially if you've gone thru 3 iphones already.
When you restored as new - did you sync back your stuff - apps/music or did you restore from backup?

There's an app on the phone that is stuck sending data, or trying to send and failing, and in an infinite loop. Mail can do this if you have an Exchange account or iCloud account. Sometimes a corrupt calendar entry or contact can cause this.
But first, if you have either type of account go into Settings and turn it off, then reboot the phone (hold HOME and SLEEP until an Apple logo appears). If the problem goes away you have identified the culprit. If you turn the account back on and the problem does not come back no further action is required.
If this doesn't fix it you have to find the app. Any app that exchanges a lot of data (Facebook, Whatsapp, etc) is a possibility.

I have a 9860 with excellent battery life. I suggest you take the battery out, wait a minute and reinstall. Maybe some App was running in the background.

  • My iphone 5 battery is draining like anything, after updating it to ios6.0.2, when i use 3G the battery in 2.5hrs from 100% brcomes 40%,

Is Apple making a new software update to fix this bug.

Sorry, but the warranty for the iPhone is only valid in the country where you bought the device.
In most of the cases 3rd party apps or settings caused the battery to drain faster than before the new software has been set up. Sometimes the mail app tried to connect to the mail server over and over again, deleting and setting up the mail account can solve this problem.
In other cases social media apps did similar things to the phone.
Here are some suggestions for getting back the normal battery life, maybe they are helpful for your problem with your iPhone 5 as well.

  • Blackberry battery draining like crazy!!

Okay, so my blackberry was working fine and suddenly one day when I just opened it up for about an hour the battery died. Then the next day it got worse and died in about half an hour. Now whenever I open it for about five, ten minutes it would either say "battery drained, shutting down handheld" or go black and I can't restart it. I tried to take out the battery and put it back in but most of the time it doesn't work. The times it worked and it showed me that there's 80% battery left!!! Before the autoshutdown it was showing 10%!!!! Could someone help because I have to use this BB for work.

This is driving me nuts, but I solved it! Same thing, all of a sudden one day battery started to die after 30 minutes being off the charger, 3-4 calls, a couple texts and red warning of death shows up, blackberry (Curve 8530) shuts down. I did a little reading and it turns out what it is, is the CPU is working overtime on something unknown, possibly just stuck in a loop, and so just like a stubborn computer, I rebooted it. Just hit left-alt, right-shift, del keys all at the same time and hold it till it reboots. This is a soft reboot so you won't wipe it. Viola! Blackberry back to normal for full days use again. Unfortunatly, I went and bought a new battery in the meantime making the assumption. I hate to say it, but this is my last Blackberry, I am really tired of these silly issues with no support. It's driving me nuts when my friends flaunt their trouble free various smartphones. Along the line, RIM forgot all about customer support, there is no way we the customers should be left struggling with these issues on our own, time and time again. This is a common problem and no solutions coming from them directly. Sad.

  • Battery drains like crazy, and now not charging fully! 3GS

My 3GS was 100% at 9am. I got a text message at 9:36am, and the battery was at 97%, so I went to reply to it. My phone shut off, like it had a dead battery, so I put it on the charger. About two minutes later, it turned back on and said it was at 62% battery! So, I kept it on the charger. It got to 72% and wouldn't charge any more. I took it off the charger for a moment before putting it back on. It wwent up to 73% and said it was full. I did that a couple more times, but it stopped charging once it hit 74%, so I'm not sure what to do. I need my phone! I don't have a land-line, so this is the only way I can communicate with my family, friends, potential employers, etc.
(I was having the problem of the phone shutting off before I upgraded to OS5, but it got worse once I upgraded.)

It has never been dropped in water, and the closest it ever gets to water is being in my pocket or bag when it rains. I did a full restore, and it got worse...

  • I have downloaded ios5, but my battery is draining like 1% a minute. Does anyone else have this problem?

  • My 3gs updated for 5.1 and its draining like crazy

I updated my 3gs from 5.0.1 to 5.1 and my phone was heated all day, i closed all the apps and I wasn't downloading anything. Usually at the end of the day I would be around 50-60% but before the day ended my phone was already dead. How could I fix this, i'm sure this isn't a battery problem because I didn't have this problem yesterday.

you can start by searching the forum and taking some of the excellent steps recommended to maximize battery life.

  • Battery draining like ****

    Good day to you all,
Just want to ask for an advice,
I have 4s running iOS5 did not upgrade to the latest version due to traffic issue at the mOment,
Anyway i noticed while using my phone that the battery is dropping 1% every     3 minutes , while i am using
    Facebook messenger-logged on
    Skype-logged on
    3g -on
    Siri - on
while typing in messenger or skype the battery is just dropping like crazy also i noticed that my phone is heating at the back
So i dont find this normal at all ,
If you have same problem I would love to know the solution to this . Thanks

Remove background Apps from memory. Press the Home button twice quickly. In the new row of icons at bottom of screen, hold on an icon until you get the Red Minus Signs. Tap all the Red Minus Signs. When done with that, tap the Settings App > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. When done with that, see if iPhone functions better.

  • HT1476 Is it okay if you charge it's battery even if it is not fully drained like 40%?

Is it okay if you charge it's battery even if it is not fully drained like 40%?

You can charge it whenever you want and as long as you want, regardless of its state of charge. It is not possible to overcharge it. There are no rules with Lithium batteries.

  • Battery Life Drain

Okay, so it's kind of an old issue I know, but ever since I upgraded to iOS 4 on my iPod Touch, the thing leaks battery life like crazy. I've linked it to the WiFi. WiFi off - battery stays full. WiFi on - battery won't sustain moderate use for a day. I'm assuming that perhaps the WiFi isn't going dormant when the device goes to sleep but am not sure. Bottom line, I'd love to have WiFi whenever the device is awake but not risk draining my battery by leaving it on. Any tips?

how do you turn an ipod touch off? I thought when I first got it that hitting the little button on the top right was turning it off, but then I observed that the battery was draining even if I hadn't used it for a few days. So I researched and found that it is just being put to sleep, so therefore battery power is draining.
Is there a way to turn it completely off? We don't constantly use it, so why have it on or in sleep mode all the time?

  • IOS 8.1 installed yesterday has spoilt my iPad 2! There are no keyboard, message or app sounds, performance is now sluggish, juddery and strange, battery is draining fast and it no longer security locks when put to sleep.

I am so cross because iOS 8.1 installed yesterday has ruined my iPad 2! There are now no keyboard, message or app sounds, performance is slow, juddery and strange, the battery is draining fast and the iPad no longer security locks when put to sleep.  I have checked all the settings, done a number of resets and really wish I hadn't bothered and stayed with iOS 7 when it all worked like a dream.  I thought that by waiting until 8.1, teething problems would have been fixed and I am just horrified that there is no going back!  I am not the only iPad owner that has this set of problems so why didn't you warn us Apple!  What are you going to do to help us?  I do not want to be forced into buying a newer version of iPad because you broke this one!

In spite of the fact that you said you checked the settings, I still believe that you have system sounds muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center if you are running iOS 7. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center . Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

AS for your other issues, have you done any other troubleshooting like resetting your iPad, resetting all settings or doing a complete factory reset?

  • The sync icon is constantly on-screen and battery is draining really quickly.

The sync icon is constantly on-screen and my battery is draining really quickly. I can stop it by re-starting the iPhone, but is this a known problem? The sync and iCloud seem to be working properly, but I can see the battery drop by about 1% every minute.
Sync is taking place over wireless, but even if I sync using the cable, the icon remains on-screen even when iTunes tells me that the sync is complete.

    Yes, iOS4, latest and a 3GS.
So, with the home button double-tap, those two apps aren't showing in the recents list?
    Nope, not showing: http://d.pr/CQnR

Did you reset like this?... press the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
Did that as well, still the problem remains.
I don't know if I should really bother but I just find it weird and I think it has a slight impact on the battery time.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Then see if placing the iPod in airplane mode when in standby helps.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    -  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
