Battery is Lame!!!!!

Hi all knowing mac people.
Need a little help....... I have a powerbook 15'' 1.67 (not the new one... 2nd to newest) I read on the apple site that you should reset your battery by charging it full and then leaving it for 2 hours I might have not left it for that long. and then running it down completely... it says for 5 hours or more.... I ended leaving it all night....
But now my battery takes ages to charge 2 hours... and doesnt even last 2 hours...... Im not even working it that hard!!!!
will this sort its self out.... or is my battery just rubbish?!!??!?!
Thanks
Wallace

First: check your batteries current capacity. You can do this from the Apple Menu->About This Mac->More Info..., then look under Power on the left hand column. If you have the current generation Powerbook G4 15" the Full Charge Capacity should be around 4400 (not exact). If it is significantly less than that and remains that way after you do a power manager reset and re-calibrate the battery you may have a bad battery that can be replaced by Apple.
But before you do anything first things first: if you turn your screen brighness to full up, have bluetoth and airport enabled, do a lot of stuff on the computer that accesses disk or wireless devices you may only get around 2 hours of battery life. With the screen turned down to about 1/2, using airport but not bluetooth (off) and doing web surfing I can get around 3 hours of use.

After uploading our phones with the latest update, we have noticed that the battery life has deminished considerably.  I now have to charge my phone overnight and two or three times a day. Prior to the update, my battery life lasted me at least a full day.  We have several phones in our office and the ones that have updated (4) now have issue holding a charge/battery life. I really liked this phone and can not believe that you are now going to charge us $79 a battery to fix what is most definately a problem with your latest update.  I know other people outside of our company that are having the same problem. Not to mention when I called AT&T it was confirmed to me that they are hearing the same issue and then some from other customers as well.  Your own people, once I talked to them earlier today, told me they are showing a history of issues that are showing up after the update was put in place. Of course she tried to say, "Maybe the age of the battery and the update both contributed".  Whatever.
I want you all to know how disappointed I am in your company for the handling of this issue.  I always thought "Apple" was the line I didn't have to worry about having any types of issue. And that you all would stand behined your product 100%. Now I am not so sure.
I would love to hear back from your company on how you perceive the issue with all of these phones that prior to the update didn't have any issues and how after the update THEY ARE NOW having issues.  I do not believe this was an issue due to the age of a battery and that was pretty lame to say so.  It was fine and now its not.
Please feel free to contact me and help me figure out a way to pay for all of the batteries that will be needed for our company to contiue doing business as needed.
    Thank you.

  • Battery Icon with Red Line on BB 8310

So, how pervasive is the problem of theBlackberry 8310 and its icon with the red line across from it?  Is it a problem with the battery? Or is it a problemwith the phone?  IS there any fix?
Mine came brand new in a box a few daysago. It came with a blue battery (C-S2). As soon as I put the battery into thephone, the dreaded Icon (battery with a red line through it) showed up.  I charged it, thinking that means the batteryis empty and left it charging for over 5 hours, hoping the Icon will go away.It never did, and now 4 days later and an infinite number of battery pulls, some with a twist or two, it is still there. If it was any otherpiece of technology I would dismiss it as junk. But, oh, this is the famous BB.
Instead, I did some research, have spentupwards of 15 hours over the last 4 days, trying to figure it out. I ran intolots of things on the Net, including the crackberry postings with people sayingthat they got rid of the problem by dropping (!!) the BB from 3-4 feet, sometimes repeatedly, until it fixed itself. Others report the problem aftersome time of use (flaky construction?). On this forum alone there are at least4 recent postings with the identical problem (search for “8310 battery line”and find the post of “Spyridonas” 12-13-08, of “black_black_b” 06-10-09, of  “hades” 09-27-09 and of “Alien_X” 09-28-09.  None of those seems to have got the attentionof anyone from RIM, and nobody offered any meaningful solution.  As people have reported time and again, it isvery unlikely to be the problem with the battery, so we are left to conclude thatthe phones are lemons.
We spend lots of money for a useless pieceof junk and nobody at RIM cares. If this was a car, it would have been recalled a long time ago. I will get my money back and buy somethingelse, maybe a Nokia or even a Moto. Watch out RIM, you are pissing off a lot ofpeople, and some of them are the wrong people to piss off.

I think you did. You pointed out each instance you could find when this fix did not work. You failed to point out the dozens of times this fix did work.
So, to answer your initial post questions:
So, how pervasive is the problem of theBlackberry 8310 and its icon with the red line across from it?
Not very pervasive. It certainly is not one of the top ten problems judging from the questions I see asked here and elsewhere.
Is it a problem with the battery?
Could be. Have you tried a brand new battery (I forget if you said).
Or is it a problemwith the phone?
Again, could be. There could be an issue with your battery contacts on the device.
    IS there any fix?
For most, yes. We've been over that.
Try cleaning the contacts on the device. See if that helps. Try a new battery... and often new batteries are very low or close to dead upon purchase so follow the directions above to charge and bootup.

I had already seen this bit of lame “advice”  that has been circulating on BB boards and hadtried it several times,
Oh, thank you so much. You know, you get what you give. Your initial post above did not state what you had tried several times. We don't read minds, well, I don't at least.
    Alien_X wrote:
Anytime you buy a brand new item and it fails to work after 4 days of trying anything you can find I”d say you got a lemon.
You've had it four days, brand new, and you haven't returned it for a new device? That would be my first suggestion had you stated that first off. I would not keep that device if first off it didn't work. But a lemon? Nah, it's not a pervasive problem inherent to the model, which is what a lemon is normally defined as.

  • My battery won't charge no matter what I try

It may be that the battery is just getting old and needs to be replaced, but I'd rather not drop $130 if there's some way to fix it.
As of this post, my battery level is stuck at 45% and, according to the drop down menu on the battery icon, is not charging. My power adapter is clearly supplying energy because the battery life only drops when I unplug it and the green light is lit on the plug. My battery cycle count is at 54, but the condition says "check battery".
My Macbook Pro is just over a year old but the battery has been acting strange. Sometimes my computer would just turn off randomly when running on battery power, sometimes as soon as 74% life. This problem inexplicably went away on its own.
Later, I had a problem where, even though plugged in, the battery would continue to drain all the way to 0%. I followed the instructions for an SMC reset and the battery started charging again properly.
This time the battery is just stuck at 45%, and I've tried restarting normally, resetting the SMC, and a PRAM reset. I've even tried the SMC reset method with leaving the battery out for an extended period before returning it to the notebook and starting up again (basically I've tried a variety of things that I've read from surfing help forums on this very topic in hopes that it would also solve my similar problem). However, it remains at 45% and refuses to charge (unless I were to unplug it, at which point that 45% would begin to drop).
Does anyone have any ideas? Obviously it's a pain to own a laptop that must be plugged in at all times to run, but I'd rather only replace the battery as a last resort, $130 is hard to come by as a typical broke college student.

    Yo MR, howzit;
So, you got coconutbattery utility? http://www.coconut-flavour.com, donation-ware: awesome. My MBP is like 49% of original battery capacity; 132 load cycles; sounds lame but I am surviving.
Yeah, buying a battery ... Nothing like a new battery; which entails an expenditure. There were threads here last year about an AAPL credit for certain battery serial #s; search this forum. Else, keep trying: have you calibrated? The SMC reset; maybe try it again? Good luck; post back!

  • Firmware 3.0 Battery Percentage in Status Bar

    Hi,
I'm currently using an iphone 3G running the 3.0 OS.
I thought there was a way to display the reamaing battery in a percentage in the status bar.
I don't seem to find it in settings. Anyone knows how to bring it up?
    Thanks

Wow, that's really ridiculous. Apple is beginning to disappoint me with their withholding of features when there is absolutely no technical basis for it. Auto orientation and digital compass due to lack of a magnetometer? Understandable. I thought not providing voice control was lame but this takes the cake.

  • Is it possible to have a black backgound for the Time & Battery screensaver

I purchased my 3rd generation iPod in mid-November and I love, love, love it! However, my co-worker got one for Christmas and I noticed while checking it out that the screensaver that displays the time and battery life has a black background with white lettering while mine is opposite! I would rather have black and she'd prefer white... is there anyway to change them? Is her's a newer version of software that mine hasn't been updated to yet? I haven't found any answers in the forums... thanks!!

Sorry, I don't know the answer but I have a related question: what if you don't want that screensaver at all? I don't care how much time is left on my battery, but I sure like looking at my iPod to tell the time or see what song is playing. The default behavior for my new ipod is to hide this much-more-valuable information, which is lame. Any way to change it back to the old behavior?
    Thanks!

  • Battery Screws and DVD Drive

I'm in a bit over my head here, and my beautiful warranty has expired. My tough luck. A while ago, my battery was giving me issues as far as charging goes, so I decided to take it out and and make sure the connections were all good. When I did, several screws fell out into my lap. Naturally surprised, I screwed them back into where they should be, only to find numerous screws missing and seemingly unaccounted for. But, I figured, if the computer's still running, no big deal. Well, recently, I have placed several CDs into my disc drive only to find them perfectly circularly scratched. I know, super lame. What I don't know is if this could be a common problem that emerges from older drives or whether the culprit, as I suspect, could be an errant screw. Also, if someone knows an inexpensive locale that could fix my problems quickly, it'd be a huge help.

as a guess, different providers could charge about an hour labor for checking that kind of thing (they may be able to actually hook up another optical drive internally to verify if it is a bad drive), around $50 to $100 maybe.
could be cheaper to get external drive too.
seen loose screws inside laptops, but not in the optical drives, never know though.

  • Ipod battery drain

Even with all the push, notifications and everything else fancy turned off (wifi excluded), my battery life is only about a day when I don't even unlock it to use, when it used to be at least a week without any use. Any idea why? I'm using iTunes 9 still since iTunes 10 looks lame, but is there any update regarding this in the new version? Any ideas how to preserve the battery life?
    Thanks!

  • Extreme loss of battery power on iPad mini

WWhy is my iPad mini suddenly losing its charge?

I just started experiencing this problem as well within the last week and a half. The first occurance involved activating the backlight (menu button) immediately after waking the iPod from sleep. The unit lit up, let me navigate the menus, but then about 5 seconds after the song started playing, I got the "No battery power remains, please plug in to a power source" (or something along that line)
After this point I have not been able to use my iPod until it has been plugged in to the charger (which has only registered a fully charged condition once in the past week, despite a total of about 100 hours on the charger...)
I am not sure, but it seems that cycling the hold button has something to do with the phenominon, but I have not had a decent chance to test it. I hope someone knows what's going on, this is rather lame...

Help! My ipad wont turn off and wont open a screen. Just blank with the circle going round and around. was I hacked? Should I let the battery die? I am lame at this stuff.

  • Lame noob question that bothers me...

Ok, this is my truly lame question: Typically, how long does the cmos battery on a mobo last? I noticed that my board came with an extra (I built this puter a few months ago but I decided to ask this now). Thanks, I'm sure this will only take one reply from one of you nice people....

If your system is on 24/7, then the batt can last up to 4 and half years or more.
If you only only your system for 4 to 6 hours a day, max is around 4 years or less.
If you only have your system up for 2 to 3 hours a day, max is around 3years.
The battery is there to keep the system clock and BIOS settings in place when the system is not on, when the sysem is on, all these power to keep the settings will be through your PSU.

  • MBP 15'' 2011 battery lasts only 3 hours!

    Hi
I bought MBP 2011 15 inch last week and received it on Monday.
    My configs are
    Model Name:          MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro8,2
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed:          2.2 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          4
L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          6 MB
      Memory:          4 GB
and I also upgraded to high resolution.
So far, I'm pretty much enjoying my new MBP
But I have one main concern with my new laptop's battery time.
The battry time is really really short!
When I first turned it on, it took 3 hours to drain the battery. (starting from 98% or so)
And I did calibration thing so that the battery runs more "efficiently"
Of course, I didn't expect that calibration would make the battery last longer, but no matter what,
I only get 3 hours of battery life and I'm not even doing something that would drain my battery fast.
I just do simple web surfing and word documenting on about 30-40% brightness (or even lower sometimes)
And I get only 3 hours of bettery time.
So is this because my MBP has four i7 cores or or what?
Previous MBP 15'' models seem to last at least around 5 hrs doing exactly same thing.
And considering that I have been using my MBP only for 5 days or so, I'm worried that the battery life will become even less!
    Maybe like 2 hrs?
Is this a particular issue with my laptop, that I can return and exchange to new model or get fixed without fees?
Or is it just built this way that all the MBP 2011 15'' models have this kind of short battery life?

OMG turning off the Bluetooth just gave me like extra 3 hours of battey time! (6 hrs total)
I didn't even know it was turned on in the first place because I never touched it.
I guess bluetooth is on as a default setting.
Thank you so much for advice.
I feel so stupid, but please be understanding since it's actually my first MacBook.
But I'm really glad to find out that I was wasting battery with bluetooth on, and now I can get better battery time.
    Thanks once again!

  • Battery heating

I have the original battery that came with the Thunderbolt.  I noticed if I'm using mobile web for maybe over 20 minutes or so, I can feel the battery heating up.  Is anyone else experiencing this with the original battery?  Is this "normal"?  I don't notice it heating up when I just text or use the phone for voice calls.  It's past the 14d period when I can return the phone.  My laptop was doing the same thing (heating up), until finally it "burned out" the inside and has had to be repaired several times.  I'd HATE for the same thing tohappen to my Thunderbolt, especially since I have 2 years with it.  (Footnote:  I did not purchase the extended warranty.)  Help!!!

Download from the market "Battery Monitor" application and it will show you much more information about battery including its temperature. Normailly working battery temperature (not during charging) range is from 80F (27C) and should not exceed 105F (40C). If your battery is getting hotter than 105F during normal operation, you are risking of damaging not just a battery but also internal components of the phone.

  • I bought the wrong HP battery...!

I bought it online a couple days ago and it arrived today. I opened the package and to my horror the battery didn't fit my laptop. My laptop is a 13.1 inch HP Pavilion dv3. I bought the HP dv3000 Notebook 6-Cell battery thinking it would fit, but unfortunately it didn't. Can anybody tell me what battery I actually need to purchase for my laptop?
Most importantly: Can I return this and get an exchange or something? It cost me 145$, and I don't know what to do with a laptop battery that won't fit my laptop.

    Thank you for the link.
As for checking with the vendor... since I bought it online I called yesterday to the tech support number. They talked a lot about some stuff and then told me they don't have the information for what I want. They gave me a number which I am now calling and I've been on hold for 18 minutes and counting. I think I'll try again tomorrow.
I'm sure they'll let me exchange... if I can get hold of them. I sure don't want to be stuck with a 145 dollar piece of junk.
