Battery issue, suddenly not charging, showing fully charged

I've not had any performance issues with my battery until suddenly two days ago, it stated that it was all out of power after staying in my pocked unused a couple of hours.
I have tried charging my iPod video using both a socket charger and using USB on two different macs, without any acctual charging happening. The iPod states that it is fully charged and shows the "cable-symbol", but drains after just a couple of seconds after I reconnect it.
However, both of my mac's recognize the iPod as usual. I have tried to restore it without any results. I have also tried to run the automated diagnostics mode with "green screen" and completed as a result. The manual mode is hard to interperet.
Could this be a logic card-failure, rather than a battery failure? I have yet to read about sudden battery death.

Hello LorangDahl,
And welcome to Apple Discussions!
It's really hard to tell unless you have it looked at either by Apple or a third party repair company. The problem could be the battery itself or with the logic board itself. I suggest you send it in somewhere to be looked at or where they can and will perform a free diagnostics test.
Other than that, I don't think there is too much you can really do about it. Here is one such third party company you could look at.

  • IPad 2 battery stuck at 60%.  Showing fully charged plug symbol.

I got an iPad 2 at the Apple store today. When I got it home I plugged it into my MBP and synced it. At this point the battery status indicator was at 75% and the fully charged symbol (electrical plug) was displayed. I tried charging it for a while and nothing changed. At this point I unplugged it to drain some of the battery off to see if this would change anything. Drained it to 60% then plugged it in again. Still nothing. Stuck at 60% with the fully charged symbol displayed. I've tried power cycling it and doing a hard reset with the home & power button. Any ideas?

Your iPad won't charge or it doesn't show it's charging in the status? I downloaded the battery doctor app like was suggested above, and it shows that it is charging. It's probably just a software thing that got messed up with the update...expect another update to fix that soon?

  • Why does the iphone4 not hold a fully charged battery overnight?

I charged up the iphone4 to 100% last night; left the phone powered "on" overnight - I have done this every night for the past two weeks.  But, this morning, the iphone4 showed a very low, almost dead battery picture with a thin red line at the end of the battery.  What would cause the fully charged phone to lose all charge overnight, in less than 10 hours?

    Two possibilities:
    1. The charge level indicator needs recalibrating - discharge the battery completely, then charge it fully
    2. Something is running and using power. Restart the phone (Home and Sleep pressed until the Apple logo appears)
There might be a fault with the battery, but these two are more likely

  • Battery Issue still not fixed

This is my first iPhone.  I like the phone but the battery issue is not resolved.  I downloaded the software fix and it did not fix it.  In fact it might have made it worse!  I have to keep everything turned off all the time or the battery is used up in a few hours.  What good is having the phone if you can't have anything turned on.  I see no difference in the battery life even with the software update.  I don't mind charging it each night, had to do that with the Blackberry too but I don't want it going dead mid day when I have barely used it.  Has anyone found a way to keep the battery at a decent level all day?

why don't you search the forum before asking a question that's been asked and answered over and over and over and over again?
There are a multitude of postings with excellent suggestions on how to maximize your battery life.

  • MBP constantly switching between charging and fully charged, what's wrong?

My MBP is constantly switching between charging and fully charged. The mag safe connector flashes orange for a bit and back to green. The same goes for the status in the tool bar. Originally I thought it was the mag safe so I switched it up to my backup mag safe. I was fine for about a day until the same problem appeared. Any thoughts?

If your MBP is one of the early 2007 models then most likely it has the same battery problem that others have had, as did mine. Look at the support page on apple.com for info on these issues.

  • Battery indicator showing fully charged when plugged in but battery percentage is not

I've had the iPhone 5 for about 6 months now and starting about a week ago the battery started messing up.  I plug in my phone to charge and the indicator at the top right shows the fully charged indicator when the battery percentage is clearly not 100%.  Randomly it will switch to the charging indicator and actually charge but otherwise it stays like that and just continues to lose battery while it is plugged in.  I've tried my friend's charger and it still does the same thing so it's not the charger that is malfunctioning.

Seems like battery is faulty. Make Genius reservation or set up service and take or send to Apple for resolution under Warranty.

  • Battery is dead, but Shows fully charged w/AC

I am having a strange problem... My battery is dead and won' actually charge. When I plug it in to the AC charger, it simply shows that the battery is fully charged. As soon as I unplug the charger, the Ipod instantly zaps off. I cannot get anything when I have it plug ged to USB. Computer doesn't recognize anything and the Ipod shows a battery icon with a crossed-out circle and the words "Plas Wait. Very low battery." Then there is the Apple wait spinning thing below. But, I never get past this screen.
So this all causes me to not sync my Ipod. The Ipod is fully functioning when plugged via AC charger, but as soon as it leaves it's life support, it is DEAD.
Please help me find the solution to this problem. It will save me a big headache, trust me!

I'm having the exact same problem, any help would be very much appreciated.

  • Lenovo G510 won't start when battery is on and it's fully charged

Hi there. I have my Lenovo g510 i5 notebook for 10 months, and my battery is wrong. I haven't used it on battery too much, but when I used it, I empty all of it and then charged it when it's turned down. Couple of days ago, the battery was empty I put it to charge, the orange light appears that it's charging, and day after when I put the battery on the notebook won't start, but with the battery and adapter start normally and show that the battery is 100% (fully charged). Why I can't use it on battery? Please help me.

    Hi Kocevski_91,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with system not starting with battery in your G510 laptop.
Please remove the battery and connect only adapter and check for the issue, also try to perform a power drain by removing all the external devices connected to the devices and shutdown the system, now remove battery and adapter, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, connect battery and adapter and check for the issue.
If still the issue persist, perform battery gauge reset, go to power manager select advance mode and select battery tab and click on battery maintenance under this option click perform under battery gauge option. Please perform and reply with results.
Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!
    Best regards,

  • Battery Drained when my phone is fully charged

This has been happening for 2 weeks or so, my blackberry 9360 is fully charged but somehow after 5 minutes or so says "Battery drained, shutting down handheld" and even though it says my battery is full,it still shuts down, why is this happening and what can I do about it!?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain directly connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB, not a cradle):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
    Remove the battery
    Wait 15 minutes
    Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain an known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem. Note carefully please that "new" and "know good" are not necessarily the same things. While rare, a "new" battery certainly could be defective. Rather, the simplest (and least costly, btw) method to conduct this test is to find someone with an identical BB who has no issues...trade batteries and see what happens.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Thinkpad Twist S230U - Battery Issue (Only 1 hour on full charge)

    Hello all,
I'm desperate here. I purchased my Twist from eBay and from that time I've had a battery issue. I was only getting approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes off a full charge before it died.
I mostly just tolerated it and had to keep close to an outlet as I assumed the battery was just bad.
In the last week I decided to do someting about it and bought a replacement battery, opened up my laptop, and replaced the old battery with the new one.
Hopeful that my problem had now been remedied, you can imagine my disappointment when the issue was even slightly worse. Now I get an estimated 1:06 on a full charge.
I installed BatteryBar and it tells me "Capacity: 13,870 mWh of 14,060 mWh" and "Battery Wear: 66.9% of 42,480 mHw".
I'm running Windows 8.1. I've replaced the original hard drive with an SSD. I've installed the "Lenovo Settings Dependency Program" and "Lenovo Power Management Driver". I've tried changing power settings. Nothing works.
A one hour battery life is just miserable. Can anyone provide some insight as to what may be done? I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks for the response!
It seems that with Windows 8 there is not a "battery gauge reset" feature included with the Power Manager as there is in other versions of Windows.
Right now I'm trying what is considered a "manual reset" that I read about online. The battery was charged to 100%, now I'm allowing it to drain completely, and then I'll plug it back in and allow it to charge fully.
Is this an appropriate method to reset the battery gauge, or should I be doing something else?
    Thank you.

  • Ipod not recognized unless fully charged.

Hi, I recently changed my PC, I was using windows xp and everything was fine. Now, I am using Windows 7 and my Ipod is not recognized neither by my PC nor Itunes, unless it is fully charged. I did not have this issue before. Any solutions?

    Hi there,
I would recommend taking a look at the article below for some troubleshooting steps. While the article isn't for troubleshooting this specific issue, it can be useful in finding out if any of the settings have changed during the upgrade process.

  • IPhone 3G and OS 3.0 doesn't show fully charged in iTunes

Since I upgraded my iPhone 3G to OS 3.0, when it is plugged into the computer and iTunes is running, there is no longer an indication (a little plug) when the phone is fully charged. The indication appears on the phone, but not in iTunes. This worked before the upgrade.

I got tired of waiting for an answer from Apple here and I called support yesterday. They told me that it is documented that the "plug" will show up when the device is fully charged, but it may take as long as half an hour. I am quite certain that this is not the way it used to be, and I put in a request for this to be fixed (whistling into the wind!). I will close this thread in a day or two.

  • My iPod touch 5th generation battery indicator does not update when being charged (Updated to iOS 8)

Note that the iPod touch 5th generation was updated to iOS 8. When I connect my charger to my iPod touch, for the first time, the battery indicator does not update when connected to a power source. Instead of being charged, it says that the battery is being depleted. Please fix this issue. Thank you!

I have a Macbook 2.1 that runs 10.5.8.   I cannot get it to start on battery power. It will run for over an hour on the battery, if you start it with the charger, but even then it shows a 0% charge! I've tried pulling the battery out while it's booted, pulling battery out and discharging the system by holding the power switch, nothing seems to make it work. any ideas? It has all the updates Apple offers, too.

    Try resetting the SMC
    Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
    Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
