Battery Issues - 5th Generation

Rec'd an iPod 80gb 4 my bday 12/14.. Not much of an instruction manual came w/it..LOL!! Charged the battery completely before 1st use. Took about 2 days 2 install everything & download songs etc... Battery indicator showed full charge, so I used it the last few days 21st-23rd to drain battery before next charge. Used a wall adapter to charge the unit until "Charged" icon was displayed. Disconnected and tried to scroll for a song & it decides to take a dump I plug it into my laptop & I am getting "Very Low Battery" went back to the wall adapter plugged it in waited until "Charged" was on screen, went back to the computer "Very low battery."
Im about 2 get on a plane 4 Europe & now have no tunes. For the unit to take a charge it should be on the "Hold" side in order to keep the charge!! I'm baffled & about to chuck my iPod out the window!!
Suggestions??

Hi,
It might be that there is a driver problem on your PC so the iPod is not drawing enough current to charge fully. Some devices like the blackberry and other mp3 players actually say they are charging when in fact they are discharging! Perhaps you could try another PC with iTunes installed and see if you have the same problem - would at the very least rule out your PC.
I found this on Wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB
The USB specification provides a 5 V (volts) supply on a single wire from which connected USB devices may draw power. The specification provides for no more than 5.25 V and no less than 4.75 V (5 V±5%) between the positive and negative bus power lines.[11] Initially, a device is only allowed to draw 100 mA. It may request more current from the upstream device in units of 2 mA up to a maximum of 500 mA.
I've got a blackberry and the charger is rated 5v 500mA. It has a usb connector for the power lead so I just unplug the standard usb cable for my bberry and plug in the iPod cable. This is exactly the same as the £19 AC chargers you can buy in the shops
Hope this helps.

  • 5th Generation iPod Battery Issues

    Hello all.
I'm hoping someone can help me with an issue I recently started having. Both my wife and I have 5th generation iPods that we bought 13 months ago. We have been using them on my computer on a regular basis since then.
About 3 weeks ago I started receiving the "low battery warning." I charged it successfully from my PC and from a car adaptor and after rebooting the iPod the battery would be close to empty. My wife's iPod had similar issues within a week of my issue.
I took my iPod into my local Apple store and they charged me ~$60 for a battery replacement and replaced my wife's since it was within warranty. I sync'ed my new iPod at home on the computer and had the same problems within 2 days. I then tried my wife's iPod and her's was dead before she even got to use it.
I just replaced both iPods at Apple yesterday and I'm afraid to plug them into my computer now, but an iPod isn't much fun unless it has music! Any ideas? What can I check? (Keep in mind that we've been using this same computer for quite sometime now.)
    Thanks,
    Michael

  • IPod touch 5th generation battery drained and restored after app is closed

I got my iPod Touch 5th generation about a year ago. I noticed it has since had an issue on the battery life that I thought was common so I did not do anything about it.
The issue my iPod has is that whenever I use an app that requires immense energy to function, the battery drains real quick. But after I closed the app, the battery life fills up again like it has only used a little.  Video recording especially drains the battery the most where after 10 minutes of recording, it pops up saying 20% battery left from fully charged and at one point it even shuts down itself. But when it was turned on, the battery life is still around 75%. Before it runs on iOS 8, the issue is more apparent although it still exist now with the latest update.
I did not know until just recently that I found out it is a big issue where I could not have a video recording that can last longer than 10 minutes or so. Is there anything I could do to solve this? Are there anyone else out there that has this sort of issue?

    Hey Leowjowee-
I'm really sorry if I'm about to state the obvious, but have you tried fully resetting the iPod touch and setting it up like it's brand new?
It's a crappy answer, but sometimes these are device specific issues, and other times, it can happen just because the kinks haven't been worked out of a new upgrade. I work in consumer IT, and the first thing I would suggest to a client with this issue (especially after an upgrade from one version of the operating system to another), would be to restore (reset the iPod to factory specs) the iPod touch, set it up like the day I bought it, only with the upgraded operating system, and see if there's still an issue. Sometimes, doing an upgrade like you probably did to get from iOS 7 to iOS 8, where it keeps all your previous settings from the last operating system, can cause bugs in the new code.
    Here's instructions for a reset: http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201252
Keep in mind that this will completely erase any content you have on the iPod touch, so be careful to make sure you have a backup of the device before you do anything. You can back up your device to iCloud or your computer with these instructions:  http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203977
iOS 8 is brand new, and I'm sure Apple is working out the bugs - but these things happen...

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue?  Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?

Has this iPod ever worked on this PC or is this the first time you have time you have tried connecting it?
Have you carefully worked through each and every single suggestion in this Apple support document?

Note that the iPod touch 5th generation was updated to iOS 8. When I connect my charger to my iPod touch, for the first time, the battery indicator does not update when connected to a power source. Instead of being charged, it says that the battery is being depleted. Please fix this issue. Thank you!

  • My 5th generation iPod touch issues

    Hey,
My 5th generation iPod touch is just over a year old. About a month ago I started realising that my battery wasn't lasting as long as it always had. I then realised it was getting really hot, and I have now noticed my front camera isn't working.
I have seeked lots of advice, I began dimming the brightness right down, closing all apps that were not being used, using airplane mode when I could, but still the same problems.
I then reset the iPod and then fully restored it but still no luck.
I live in the Caribbean right now on yachts and so getting to an Apple store is impossible. Is it a hardware issue and in need of being replaced?
If so how much is this going to cost me as it is now 2 months out of warranty?
    Thanks for any advice given

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for (USA prices) $99 for the 16 GB 5G and $149 for the ohter 5Gs. They do not fix yours. The following will allow you to select your country.

  • IPod nano 7th generation battery issues

I am only getting 2.5 hours of playback after a full charge to my nano. My older iPod (5th generation) would last for days before it would need a charge. Is this an issue that others have experienced or is this an isolated issue with a defective battery in my unit?

  • Ipod touch 5th generation update iOS 8 Battery Life

I have recently upgraded to iOS 8 about three days ago and my battery charging time has become longer. It now takes a couple of hours to charge from 20% to 40-50%. It now takes forever to change the battery from red to green. I use to be able to see the difference in color in about 15 to 20 minutes. Also, when I plug in my ipod at 50% battery life, I go back to check on it and the battery is less than 20% even thought it was 50% and plugged in. The amount of battery at the top of the battery does not seem to increase even when plugged in. Should I take my ipod to Best Buy or an Apple store? or could I fix it myself or possibly wait until a new update happens? Anything on tips or directions will be greatly appreciated to fix this! Thanks!

I had an ipod touch 5th generation. I plugged it in at 18% and checked back 5 hours later, 47%. I checked six hours after that and it said 96%. I was looking at it and wondering why it was doing that and i noticed a cosmetic issue i haven't seen before on this model, it BENT. I went to an apple store, explaned the the problem, and since I had it for less than a year, they replaced it for free. I was running IOS 8 and then 8.0.2. I never had a charge problem with ios 7 so the one I got from the store came with 7.1.1. I believe the battery was swollen.

  • Ipod Touch 5th generation sync issues over storage

    Hi
I have a 64GB ipod touch 5th generation ipod touch. It (and itunes) has the latest software.
The issue is that I am trying to sync my music (I have bought new songs and changed playlists) and itunes states there isnt enough space on ipod touch. However, my music collection, and the ipod own storage suggests that the music only takes 50% of the available storage.
I am the point of jacking in the ipod touch now as this is a regular occurrence.
Any help on overcoming this is appreciated.
    Lee

    - First verify you have the right items checked to syn so that you are not syncing more than you think
    - Next
Connect the iPod to your computer and look at the storage used by the various categories as shown in the colored bargarph in iTunes.
    Come back with the results.
An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 GB indicates corrupted files.
What is the Other on my iPhone and How to Remove It
What is "Other" and What Can I Do About It?
Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.

  • 5th Generation iPod Touch Syncing issues

I recently receive a 5th Generation iPod Touch as a gift and I am having issues with it. I plugged the iPod into my Windows 7 PC with iTunes 11.4.0.18 and had issues from the start. First, my iPod would not even sync any media content from my library. So I messed around with the settings until the content was on my iPod. Once, it was on there I went to play a song that I had downloaded and it immediately skipped the song and kept going to the next available song , so I went back on to the forums to see that it could be a corruption on the backup and all you would have to do is restore your iPod and it would fix your issue. I did that got to the same step and a few songs played but most skipped. The album art is there for most of the songs not the music. I then went to iPod>On this iPod to find that every song I had just sync had an exclamation point error by the song. This is only happening on the On this iPod menu the music plays fine on the music menu without an issue. I am curious of what I am doing wrong here? I also read that it could be a much bigger problem in that I would have to delete all my music and re-install it. If that is the case I will deal with the iPod as is. It is not worth my time to spend hours trying to re-install 15+ GB on my PC again.

Verify that all play in iTunes on the computer.

I have a similar issue - my iPod nano connects and is visible in Device Manager yet invisible in My Computer and iTunes. I've tried everything I can possibly think of to try and solve this myself, all in vain.
Mine is a nano 4G. I've been using it for quite some time without the slightest problem. I have been using WINAMP instead of iTunes to manage my darling nano.
Then, one fine day I bought a new computer and the nano would not show up in My Computer, though the nano display shows "Do not disconnect". On my old computer it worked (and still works) absolutely fine with win XP as well as with win7 (the later I currently use on my new/problematic computer, which I bought last summer and that's how long I've had this problem).
Of course, after several first attempts I gave up and installed iTunes. I've tried using the Apple support article "iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows":
    - reset
    - fully charged,
    - cable works fine on two other computers
    - in normal or disk mode makes no difference
    - tried to find anything useful in the diagnostics mode
    - reinstalled iTunes several different times since then to the latest version
    - I've unplugged every other USB device except for my mouse and keyboard and tried several different USB ports on my motherboard (USB 3.0 and conventional), as well as trying different USB- related options in my BIOS.
    - I've never used any Mac with this ipod
    - I've tried fiddling with the win7 Services by stopping and restarting them and of course
    - uninstalling the iPod drivers in Device Manager. After such an uninstall the ipod would automatically be recognised and "ready for use", i.e. being invisible in My Computer.
    - Attempted to find any possible third-party conflict with msconfig or the possibility that my ipod is being confused for a network drive (for which I've disconnected my HDD, leaving only my SSD with the OS).
Sometimes, iTunes would note that iPod service (or something, can't remember exactly) failed to install properly and asked to try and repair it. I would click YES! and voila - no change! The ipod would rarely show up in iTunes on my problematic computer like this:
iTunes would warn me that the nano would need restoring so I would try and do it on my haunted machine upon which iTunes would freeze like you seen in the picture.
Despite this, I've updated and restored the nano on my father's computer to the latest version without any problems. This though, did not solve my problem in any way.
I can load music to my nano through my old computer (which for me is a real pain and hassle) and the gadget works normally in terms of its disconnected functionality.
I've taken my nano to the local service for repair and they said it was fine. Mercifully, they didn't charge for the diagnostics service (gee, thanks for not ripping me off!).
Here are two screengrabs from my Device Manager
and Devices and Printers screens on my comp:
That is my sad story as far as I can remember. It's most likely something with the drivers or something along those lines though I'm out of ideas at this point.
If you think you have any idea PLEASR HELP, I'M DESPERATE!

  • IPod 5th generation screen touch sensitivity issues?? Lack of sensitivity!!

Hello all! I am just wondering if anyone else has issues with the sensitivity of their screen to touch? I have to tap my screen multiple times especially along the edges or if the buttons on the screen are smaller. The Airplane mode one is tricky for me.
I play a game called CSR Racing and find that sometimes the buttons don't respond well.
Is anyone out there having any issues with their screens? Should I be worried and call Apple? It gets annoying when you have to tap multiple times or have your finger tip positioned just right.
Post up if you have any issues at all, thanks!!

I've noticed this, too. I have new iPod touch 5th generation. Where I find it troublesome is in something like Contacts or Music. When I am looking for a contact or a song and the list of letters A-Z shows up on the right hand side, I have a to tap a letter several times before I get any response. I wasn't sure if this was a hardware or software problem, or if the letters are so small that my finger hits too many at one time. Then I noticed that when I am relaxing with a game of Solitaire, the cards along the right edge of the screen often won't respond on the first tap. I am curious about this, too. Otherwise I am pretty happy with my new iPod.

  • My iPod Touch 5th generation battery drains extremely fast.

I have a iPod Touch 5th generation, with iOS 8.0.2 and the battery life goes down in less than 15 minutes. I have experienced this since I first bought it, which was 10 months ago. My brother and sister just bought the same iPod as me but in different colors. My brother used his iPod Touch for 1 and a half hours, and it looked like the battery was barely used. I am not sure if this is a problem with my device, because this happened with my dad's iPhone 5 as well. Maybe it is the older models. Does anyone have a solution to this, or ways to save my battery?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Ipod 5th generation started loosing its battery really fast and now it wont even turn on.

My iPod 5th generation is just over a year old and its screen is a bit cracked. a couple of months ago it started to keep its battery less and less and it would go to 100% battery after a couple of minutes and then when unplugged it would die just as quickly. For the past week or so I've had to use it plugged in as it was barely keeping any charge (1 minute) at the most.Last night I was using it and i unplugged it and put it on the shelf i presumed it would be okay through the night as i wasn't using it. But when i woke up it wasn't turning on at all and so i plugged it into the charger. The apple symbol came up for about a minute and then the screen went blank. I thought I'd leave it plugged in to see what would happen but it kept repeating the symbol to blankscreen process. If anyone knows whats wrong with it or how to fix it please tell me. as it took me a long time to save up for it and its a big loss of money for me.

  • 5th generation ipod replacement battery program

I recently received my new ipod for the 5th generation battery problem. The new ipod I received only holds a charge for a total of 3 hours. I am curious to know if anyone else is having the same problem. For me, the problem really didn't get solved. Apple replaced the ipod with the same problem just a different size. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

It won't do any harm... It will just make it like it was syncing for the first time. Music, video, and picture will be erased and other things will be reset; you will just have to re-tailor it to your liking.
For your situation, however, I don't think it's necessary. How long do you usually get out of it?
