Battery keeps "Calculating...."

This is my first post here so apologies if I'm on old ground.
For the first time today the battery of my Powerbook displayed odd signs.
When I plug into the mains I have the setting to show how much time is left in the battery. When I plugged in today it seemed to get stuck on " calculating". The time did not appear.
In system preferences the battery charge seemed to be stuck at 95%.
Has anyone any experience of this problem?
Thanks for the Help
Marky

I have the same problem with my Powerbook G4. It's three years old, with a relatively new battery. While it's true the primary downside to this is that there is no warning before shutdown, this is not an acceptable situation. Sudden shutdowns can't be healthy for data and I'm hitting 'save' so often it feels like Windows.
My problem began when I upgraded to 10.4.5. It was fine before this. Now, my computer shuts down suddenly, and when restarted it says the battery is at 40-50% and that it's May, 1970. I can't tell you how embarrasing it is, walking around with a laptop that wears flares and a rainbow tube-top.
Here's my battery stats:
Battery Installed: Yes
First low level warning: No
Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 2426
Remaining Capacity (mAh): 2426
Amperage (mA): 0
Voltage (mV): 12456
Cycle Count: 158
I have not found a fix for this on any powerbook thread. I guess the lesson here is that, once you find an OS that works without a hitch, stay with it. A few more bells and whistles are not worth the risk. Especially if your warranty is up.

  • Why does my fully charged iPad 2 battery keep dying at 50% charge? I have updated to iOS 7 and this started happening. What could be the cause of it?

My iPad's battery keeps dying. When I plug it in and put it back on, the screen shows a drained battery. After a few moments it boots up. However, when I check the battery charge, it's at 52% or so. Can someone tell me what's causing this? And what can I do to fix it?

For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).

  • My jetpack won't charge. I only use the cable that came with it. and by won't charge, I mean even when plugged in the battery keeps dropping and never goes up.

My MiFi jetpack 6620 doesn't charge. I've plugged it into the charger that comes with it, and only that charger. But nothing happens. The battery keeps getting drained. I first attempted when it was at 16%. After being on the charger a few hours, it dropped to 15%, then 14%. I'm currently at 12%. I've tried different outlets at different locations. And I've tested the charger cable on my phone and it charges that just fine. Which is more likely: the battery is defective or there is a problem with the jetpack itself? and the real kicker is that I've only had it for a week.

Happy Friday cjyoyomasta! I wanted to reach out to you to see if you received the assistance that you need with your jetpack. May I ask have you took the device to the store for assistance? If so, what was the results? If you can provie us with a status update then we can assist, if still needed.
    Thank you…

  • Jst bought an iphone 5s and 5c battery keeps dying have noticed a lot of people have had this issue for awhile but I haven't seen any real fix. ???

I just bought a 5s and the battery keeps dying. I have noticed several people have had this same problem for awhile but I haven't really seen a fix.
I am loosing about 1% every 2 min as well. not very tech savy but I did turn off the LTE. I did originally let phone die all the way then charge all the way.
Have only had for 3 days should I start with taking it back and replacing? or does everyone think this is a software fix we are all gonna have to wait for ?
    Thanks

You can try this link for some help http://osxdaily.com/2013/09/19/ios-7-battery-life-fix/. I do not see my iPhone 5s behaving in this manner, so there has to be some settings that you are using that are giving you problems. Did you restore this phone from an older iPhone backup? If so, you might want to restore the device as new and start over and sync over individual parts to see what might be bad.

  • Battery keeps on draining fast in iOS 6.1..

battery keeps on draining fast in iOS 6.1.. when my phone was set up as a new phone, battery works fine but after installing some apps and restoring syncing with gmail for my contacts, battery starts draining fast..please help
I dont know what to do now. I have lots of contacts, and the only way to get them is through gmail...please help

The issue is probably specific to your iPhone:
Something may have gone amiss in the upgrade to iOS 6.1.3 on your iPhone.
To correct this follow these steps:
Backup your iPhone using iTunes or iCloud.
Use iTunes to completely restore your iPhone as new.
Setup your iPhone and monitor battery usage to see if it is normal. If not, you may have a hardware problem - if so, contact Apple support.
Restore your iPhone from your backup above.
Check battery usage to confirm that it remains normal.

  • My battery keeps cutting out on my 4s

My battery keeps cutting out on my 4s with around 20% remaining. I've got 7.1 and tried things like resetting settings etc. is it time for a new battery?

I don't remember what it was that I installed but the strangest thing was that a few weeks ago it just started working normally.
Ther was no update to fix it. In the morning it was doing the usual after it went to sleep and in the afternoon it didn't and it has been ok ever since.
The Genius Bar had suggested re booting the router as that might be the problem but I hadn't got round to it.

  • My battery keeps jumping down to 0% from around 30%.

My battery keeps jumping down to 0% from around 30%. It's done this about three times. I look at the battery life and it has about 30% left. Five minutes later my screen goes black. If I hit enter the screen comes back up but the battery is at 0% and I have to plug it in. Is my battery going bad? I have a MacBook (2009).

It sounds like the battery needs calibrating, and it's worth resetting the PRAM and SMC at the same time:
    - Reset the PRAM: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    - Reset the SMC: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    - Calibrate the battery: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490
I have found that sometimes I have to perform the calibration sequence twice before the battery display gives sensible results, so don't panic if it doesn't work first time.

  • Iphone 5 battery keeps dying! Will apple charge me a lot??

Iphone 5 is just out of warranty and the battery keeps dying so fast! So from 70% it dies and then have to wait ten minutes for it to come back on! To then have the percentage at 1%!!! So disappointed with apple. Will they charge me for a new battery???

If out of warranty, yes, they will probalby charge you.
Try restoring the device as new, i.e. without your backup.

  • Adapter running hot, amber, battery icon "calculating"

I've had my PB G4 for a few years, same battery.
I noticed today that whether on or asleep, the light on the adapter is amber, and my adapter is running hot. I have it plugged into an independent power source so other appliances can't affect it. I also use the cord with the grounded plug, not the "duckhead" adapter.
The computer itself was getting really hot as I was using it too. The icon for the battery indicates 'calculating' but the battery is fully charged. I rarely use it off the adapter.
I've tried repairing permissing, unplugging the adaptor, using just the duckhead, etc.
Any ideas or Apple articles you guys can point me to? I'm worried my computer is going to melt.

Try running your PowerBook off battery for a while and reconnect power. If the problem persists you may want to reset your PMU…
