Battery last 3 hours..no use

my 6 month old Curve 8900 started acting up yesterday around the time of the network outage. it died very quickly yesterday after i took it off the charger at work around noon....it was in the red by about 4 or 5 with literally NO use.
then last night i charged it, took it off at about 610am, and by 1030 the phone was shutting off due to low battery. i probably had about 4 emails, a text and a few BBMs...phone was on silent, and no other apps were running.
i hear people complaining about bad battery life and how it lasts only a 1.5 days, and my phone was just like that up until Tuesday....what gives???????
thanks!!!!

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
I witnessed similar circumstances last night. Here's what I think...digital phones are designed to cycle their power usage based on the quality of connectivity to the cell network. When the network is high strength, the device uses less of it's battery power. When the network is at low strength, the device uses more power to try and push for a signal. When there is no signal from the network, the device will push at it's maximum trying to acquire signal from the network. Part of the outage last night shut down the data networks of the carriers -- my signal indicator went from normal 1XEV, to 1xev, and finally to 1x...which meant that my BB was having to push with all it's might to find signal...which wore down the battery really fast.
So, all of that said, what I suggest is waiting...see if things return to normal operation now that the network is up and stable again.
Cheers!

  • How long should the battery last in between uses?

I am just wondering how long the battery should last in between uses? I find mine really goes down FAST..I just purchased this on Sunday and charged it the right amount of time as such. The first time I used it after the initial charge I was downloading 2 music albums and just left it on and by morning the battery was drained..shouldn't it have lasted at least a few days? Its an iPod touch 16g V2.
Then lastnight I had it charged and was browing youtube and in a couple hours the battery was about 1/2 way..is this normal?
    Thanks for your help!

The Touch's Wireless Internet access really chews up the battery time. When you're not using the wireless, go to Settings and turn Wireless off. When you're ready to go browsing, you can always turn it back on. If you already have a wireless access set up in your abode, the Touch will quickly "re-find" it and you'll be browsing again. If you're in a public free wireless area, you'll have to log on, etc.
If I leave wireless on all the time, my iPod Touch battery life is like halved-- sometimes more. The same holds true when viewing movies or video.
    Hope this helps!

  • How Long Does the iMac's Battery Last

Hi. How long will the iMac's battery last if you use it 8 hours (how about for 16 hours) a day and shut it down when you go to bed.
    Thank you in advance.
    Gbu.

As long as you leave the machine plugged into a live power source, even when it has been turned off it will still draw a bit of power to maintain PRAM and the clock chip, and will not use the battery.
The battery is used only when there is no othe source of power available. And, it is not recharged in the iMac.

I currently have an I5 and as with the previous I4, both buttons have failed and now my battery lasts almost six hours if I don't use it. I cannot upgrade my phone until March, 2015 even though I recently upgraded my phone to the More Everything Plan.  Am I destined to be a nonuser for three months until I can upgrade. This is very unacceptable as I've been a Verizon Wireless customer for probably 20 yrs!

As a 20 year customer of ours, we certainly appreciate your loyalty Richey_Rich. I know the importance of ensuring you have a properly operating phone. Can you please clarify which button on the device is not working? Is there any physical or water damage to your phone? Any applications that stay running?

  • MBP 15'' 2011 battery lasts only 3 hours!

    Hi
I bought MBP 2011 15 inch last week and received it on Monday.
    My configs are
    Model Name:          MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro8,2
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed:          2.2 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          4
L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          6 MB
      Memory:          4 GB
and I also upgraded to high resolution.
So far, I'm pretty much enjoying my new MBP
But I have one main concern with my new laptop's battery time.
The battry time is really really short!
When I first turned it on, it took 3 hours to drain the battery. (starting from 98% or so)
And I did calibration thing so that the battery runs more "efficiently"
Of course, I didn't expect that calibration would make the battery last longer, but no matter what,
I only get 3 hours of battery life and I'm not even doing something that would drain my battery fast.
I just do simple web surfing and word documenting on about 30-40% brightness (or even lower sometimes)
And I get only 3 hours of bettery time.
So is this because my MBP has four i7 cores or or what?
Previous MBP 15'' models seem to last at least around 5 hrs doing exactly same thing.
And considering that I have been using my MBP only for 5 days or so, I'm worried that the battery life will become even less!
    Maybe like 2 hrs?
Is this a particular issue with my laptop, that I can return and exchange to new model or get fixed without fees?
Or is it just built this way that all the MBP 2011 15'' models have this kind of short battery life?

OMG turning off the Bluetooth just gave me like extra 3 hours of battey time! (6 hrs total)
I didn't even know it was turned on in the first place because I never touched it.
I guess bluetooth is on as a default setting.
Thank you so much for advice.
I feel so stupid, but please be understanding since it's actually my first MacBook.
But I'm really glad to find out that I was wasting battery with bluetooth on, and now I can get better battery time.
    Thanks once again!

  • Battery lasts only up to 2 hours??

I just got my brand new 2nd gen iPod Touch today (32 GB) and completely charged the battery. After less than 2 hours of use, probably more like an hour and a half, the batter was 3/4 of the way down. Shouldn't it last longer than this? Could there be something I was doing that wore the battery down so fast?
    Thanks!

all the battery articles/threads say turn the wi-fi off if you aren't using it. BUT in my personal experience it acts more like a mobile phone trying to find a network. if you are within range of a wifi network you have access to, having wifi switched on won't really effect your battery that much. if you aren't, and it is constantly looking for a network, the battery will go down much quicker.
that's if you aren't using it. i listen to a 3 1/2 hour radio show over wifi, this will drain the battery quite drastically.
joaquinx is right about the brightness, you should have that set on the lowest setting which is acceptable to you.
it also depends what you are doing with it. are you playing videos/games? they will drain the battery very quickly. if you are just listening to audio, the battery will last much longer.

  • I have an iPhone 4s just eight months, it is normal that the battery lasts only 3 hours? please help me thank you very much.

I have an iPhone 4s just eight months, it is normal that the battery lasts only 3 hours? please help me thank you very much.

Three hours if definitely NOT normal. I get at least 48 hours out my 2 year old iPhone 4S' battery with light usage. Did you do the iOS 7 update on the phone it self (OTA) or through iTunes? In my experience most problems are caused by the OTA updates. For this reason I ALWAYS update using iTunes on my computer.
I would suggest restoring your phone using iTunes on your computer and setting it us as a new phone. This downloads a fresh copy of iOS 7.1 from Apple and installs it on your phone. Just make sure that you transfer all purchased items (apps, music, etc.) as well as photos to your computer before restoring as the restore will completely wipe your phone. Do not restore from a back-up. Yes, you will loose all your data on the phone but restoring a back-up can restore the problem you are currently having back to your phone. Once your phone has been restored you can manually sync back your apps and music.
Before restoring you can also check to see that battery-killers like Location Services, Background App Refresh, etc are only turned on for the apps that really need it. I recently read and article that said that the Facebook app can be a real battery killer. If you have this app installed turn of location services and background app refresh for this app and see if that helps. Also go to Settings / General / Restrictions / Location Services / System Services and turn off all the options in that menu. Your phone does not need any of those to function. Constantly using your phone's GPS is a huge battery killer. I only have Location Services enabled for Find my iPhone and Background App Refresh is turned off completely.
    I hope this helps.

  • My iPhone 4 is only 14 months old over dropped very well looke after, one day the lock button stops then the volume buttons, now the headphone port does not work and the battery lasts about 4 hours after full charge I still have a year left on my contract

My phone is 2 months out of warranty, it's never been dropped or miss used yet the past week every day something has gone wrong with it. First the lock button stopped then the side volume buttons. Then the head phone port when I putt headphones in the phone turns the volume
Down automatically and it won't turn up until I take my headphones back out. The battery lasts 4 hours max after a full charge and today I took my phone off the docking charger and all my music has gone! The phone is breaking down more and more everyday what is going on! I know people who have had there iPhones years an non of this happen! I still have a year left on my contract too!

Who is your carrier and what is your coverage with them? If you are with say Verizon, and have Total Equipment Coverage or Extended Coverage, they will swap it out for you under Manufacturer Warrantee.

  • I bought my iPhone 5 almost an year ago and since the last 2 weeks my battery lasts about 2 hours or less, while before it lastre a whole day. Can anybody tell me why is this happening or how can i solve my problem, please? Thank you.

I bought my iPhone 5 almost an year ago and since the last 2 weeks my battery lasts about 2 hours or less, while before it lastre a whole day. Can anybody tell me why is this happening or how can i solve my problem, please? Thank you.

You can follow these steps to save battery.
    1. Turn on Auto-Brightness - The iPhone has an ambient light sensor that adjusts the brightness of the screen based on the light around it (darker in dark places, brighter when there's more ambient light) to both save battery and make it easier to see. Turn Auto-Brightness on and you’ll save battery because your screen will need to use less power in dark places.
Find it in the Settings app -> Brightness & Wallpaper -> Auto-Brightness On
    2. Reduce Screen Brightness -the brighter the default setting for the screen, the more battery it requires. Keep the screen dimmer to conserve more of your battery.
Find it in Settings -> Brightness & Wallpaper
    3. Stop Motion (iOS 7) -It's really cool, but it also drains battery. You may want to leave it on to enjoy the effect, but if not, turn it off this way:
Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Reduce Motion -> move slider to green/on
    4. Turn Bluetooth Off-  Turn off Bluetooth except when you’re using it to squeeze more juice from your battery.
Find it in Settings -> Bluetooth -> Move Slider to Off
    5. Turn Off Location Services -
This allows your phone to know where you are and give you exact driving directions, give that information to apps that help you find restaurants, and more. But, like any service that sends data over a network, it needs battery power to work. If you’re not using Location Services, and don’t plan to right away, turn them off and save some power.
Find it in Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services -> Slide to Off
    6. Don't Automatically Update Apps (iOS 7)-
If you've got iOS 7, you can forget needing to update your apps by hand. There's now a feature that automatically updates them for you when new versions are released. Convenient, but also a drain on your battery. To only update apps when you want to, and thus manage your battery better:
Settings -> iTunes & App Store -> Updates -> move slider to off/white
    7. Auto-Lock Sooner -
You can set your iPhone to automatically go to sleep – a feature known as Auto-Lock - after a certain amount of time. The sooner it sleeps, the less power is used to run the screen or other services. Try setting Auto-Lock to 1 or 2 minutes.
Find it in Settings -> General -> Auto-Lock -> Tap your Preference
Few more things that would consume battery even when not is use are the applications that run in background.
Follow the below steps to quit all running applications.
    1) Double tap on the home button on the iPhone ( this will display all apps that are running in the back ground).
    2) Just click on the tiny red X to quit application ( if iPhone is running on iOS 6 and below) else just swipe yhour finger over the running app upwards to quit ( if running on iOS7).

  • How many hours does a brand new battery last after fully charged. I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro.

How many hours does a brand new battery last after fully charged. I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro.

clintonfrombirmingham is right, there is no way to exactly tell. But from personal experience, a new battery on a 2008 will last for about 2 1/2 hours with a higher screen brightness and doing something taxing to the battery (like gaming or running lots of 3D programs). But if you're just listening to music with the brightness all the way down, and no programs running, you could get up to 12 hours. So for average use, it should last you a whole business day (assuming you don't use it more than 30% 0f the time). Hope this kind of gives you more of an idea of what to expect:)

  • Solved battery-lasts-half-an-hour prob

I've had a big problem with my ipod mini (4GB). Battery lasted only for half an hour, and sometimes, not even that long.
Tried everything (during the last few months), have read bunch of tips, hints, etc. and didn't solve the prob. Took it to an apple service (in Croatia) and they didn't want to even try to fix it.
Yesterday I've just dissasembled it. I reconnected the battery, blowed it a bit and cleaned the connector with fingers, and assembled it again. Also, I've installed the original firmware v1.0. And now battery lasts for 2 hours and counting... :))))))
DO THE DISSASEMBLY AT YOUR OWN RISK. FORGET THE WARRANTY IF YOU DECIDE TO DO SMTH LIKE THIS!!
Is it possible that cleaning the battery connector helped? Ipod was used on the beach all the summer (actually 2 summers) and one time it was a bit wet (with seawater, one bottun didn't work for one hour).

  • 2  year old iPhone 3GS battery lasts only 4 hours?

    Hi,
My iPhone 3GS (bought in July 2010) battery lasts from 4-6 hours with light usage (no 3G, 5 mins of web browsing, 15 mins of music playback). It is definitely not an issue of iOS 5 as it was giving much better battery life even after the update. Tried restoring but no change. Also, sometimes it displays random battery charge percentages and shuts off on its own. When it is fully discharged, it takes 30 minutes minimum for the iphone to boot up even when connected to an iPad power adapter. Should I replace the battery?

Did you restore from backup or as new?  If from backup, restore as new and see if the problem continues.
If it does, take the device to Apple for evaluation of the battery.

You should be able to use the battery if you get a car type charger which recharges mobile devices.
The full size iPads use a 10-12W charger, whereas the mini uses a 5W charger. Many car chargers only supply 5W. But at 5W, the car charger should give you some extra time on your iPad. It would be best to use a 10-12W car charger.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I have tried as you suggested, and when opening the "purchased" apps some have the icloud logo next to them, but I only have "OPEN" against "Find My iPhone". When opening it up, it goes through the same routine; needs to be updated before proceeding, and wouldn't update because I don't have IOS8.
Anything else I could try, or am I doomed!
All of your help is much appreciated, thanks
