Battery lasting 19 mins after just over a month

I have had my G4 Powerbook just over a month and whenever I charge the battery to a full charge, it usually says that its got 95% life, but is only last approx 19 minutes.
I did calibrate the battery, so should I just get in touch with Apple and get them to send me a new battery as I am covered under the Apple Care.
At first I thought it was running down quickly due to using large programs such as Final Cut Pro and Photoshop, but I have the same problem when just typing in Word.
Comments will be much appreciated!
cheers, phil

I have had my Apple Powerbook G4 for almost 2 months. This morning it went from fully charged to shutdown in 1 minute and 26 seconds. The System Profiler showed the battery as being at full capacity at only 60mAh.
With the recharge cycle count at a mere 13, I guess that there must be a common fault in these batteries.

  • I use my 7th gen ipod on bluetooth and when the battery dies while on bluetooth it wont turn on or charge and the computer doesnt find it.  This is my 2nd nano in just over a month.  The first one had the same problem.  how can i fix this?

I have the latest ipod nano (7th gen, 16gb) and I use it mostly on bluetooth. When the battery dies during use with the Bluetooth it doesn't take a charge, the battery doesn't turn on and of course the computer doesn't even acknowledge that it's plugged in. This is my second nano in just over a month, the same thing happen with the first one. I just want to know if their is a way to fix this so I don't have to keep sending it in? Or maybe pay the difference to upgrade to a touch?

If the battery has been completely depleted on the Nano (not really a good idea) then it is going to take 15 to 30 minutes before your computer can see it. Same thing will happen with an iPod Touch.

  • I have an iPod Nano 6th Generation for just over three months and the down volume button is sticking.  Does anyone have a recommendation for resolving?

Dont buy this model again, this is the most common problem and i have gone through 4 of these 6th gen nanos all with the same problem.  You can find youtube videos that show you how to fix it yourself but you run the risk of breaking your ipod, also opening the ipod voids any warrently.

  • Mini stops syncing after just over 100 songs

My mini was working fine but I noticed that a couple of songs I usually listen to skipped in the same spot and one even began to lock up my ipod. I hooked up my ipod to resync all of my tunes. I have about 750 songs on my ipod normally, but after about 70 songs had been uploaded it really began to slow down and at 110 or so it stopped syncing. It says it is uploading but there is no progression. I then cannot eject my ipod and I have to force quit itunes. I've reset my ipod numerous times as well as tried to restore many times as well. Nothing seems to work. I still get the same problem every time I try to upload songs. Any ideas?

I think maybe you should call Apple or contact customer service..You could probably update back to I tunes 6 because thats what I have right now on my computer and it works just fine with it..go to oldversion.com and you could try to reinstall 6..The last time I checked Itunes was unavailable. Hope this helps

  • As of yesterday, my external devices diappeared from thesideboard of my just over 3-month-old desktop iMAC

I first noticed the probkem when  my camera did not appear. Today it was my thumb drive. I have already tried  inserting the cables into different USB slots, but it did not  resolve the problem. I also tried attaching the thumb drive to my old iMac (which currently is in the throes of death and forced me to buy the new iMac.)  The old  Mac still has Tiger  as its OS. so the desktop display looks different than Moutain Lion's (e.g., no sideboard menu). Also, however, the graphic card (on my old Mac) is almost dead, making it difficult to  see colors of images accurately or read text on the screen.
But what I could see, was that although the devices do not show up on the  sideboard,  the icon is visible on both desktops, and on  my new Mac, if clicked,  it opens with what looks like a mini-sized collection of folders, which open to  thumbnail shots of various  images inside each of them.
I have forgotten how I got there yesterday, but it may have been by running a search for my thumb drive, which revealed the information for the  drive under the sideboard seach information —  as well as a folder at the bottom of thst  "screen." Clicking on that enabled me to open the files I needed . . . but only in preview mode.
I've probably  overlooked  infirormation you neen to help me straighten things out and will be glad to answer them, but unfortunately I have to leave for a funeral in the next county in a few minutes; but will respond as soon as I get back.
Also just noticed thast  my OS is now 10.8.3 (not 10.4.9), but was unable to esit it (below).

Edit your computer information in your profile (click on your name).  In any case, this would be best posted on the 10.8 forum since my experience with 10.8 is seeing a computer through an Apple Store window running it.  I'll ask this topic be moved.

  • Battery failure just over 1 year

My battery has failed after just over 1 year - Apple want to charge me £85 to replace.  Always charged with approved charger etc.
Has anybody sucessfully got Apple to replace free of charge when it's just out of warantee?
Anybody ever looked at EU Directive 199/44 which appears to require a 2 year warantee on certain ggods, including electrical stuff?

Are you sure it's not the charger or cable that's at fault?

  • How long does everyone elses battery last?

I took my powerbook to my local apple store because I thought something might be wrong with it. They told me nothing was wrong with it. I know apple says it will run about 5 hours. The "genius" told me that is only true if you are not using ANY programs. I find this a strange thing because by that standard if I'm not using any programs i can tun it off, in which case the battery lasts forever.
I just did an experiment, becuase I am about to leave the country and have many long flights over the month of January, during which, I would like to watch DVD's.
On a full battery my Powerbook played a DVD for 27 minutes before it lost power and went to sleep. It seems to me a computer that will only read a DVD for 27 minutes...well...*****.
It also may be relevant that my super drive is one of the newer ones that can burn DVD-R DL discs. My airport card was on, but no other programs running and the bluetooth was turned off.
Should my battery last longer than 27 minutes while watching a dvd?

No, you should probably get close to 2 hours. See all the other various threads about battery life with new powerbook, and you see how to check your battery capacity and see if you need a replacement.
This has been covered in great detail.

  • After updating to 10.4.11 my battery lasts only aprox 40 min.

I noticed this as soon as I got done updating to 10.4.11. My battery lasts about 40 minutes unplugged if I'm not using computer. It lasts about 10 hours on sleep.
Before the update it lasted about 2 hours or longer when not in use and after 10 hours of being in sleep only took about 3-5% of the battery.
I've done the battery updates months ago.
The battery is only about a year old and I didn't have any of these issues right before the update.

Check your POWER in About this MAC,
System profiler. You should have higher than 300 cycle count and close to 5000mA
Mine is about 1100mA and lasts 8-10 minutes before complete shut down.

I do not understand what "My iPod touch G5 standby after fully charge 2 hr 58 min." means.
Also % battery is not accurate for an iPod. It fluctuates.

  • My iPhone 4 is only 14 months old over dropped very well looke after, one day the lock button stops then the volume buttons, now the headphone port does not work and the battery lasts about 4 hours after full charge I still have a year left on my contract

My phone is 2 months out of warranty, it's never been dropped or miss used yet the past week every day something has gone wrong with it. First the lock button stopped then the side volume buttons. Then the head phone port when I putt headphones in the phone turns the volume
Down automatically and it won't turn up until I take my headphones back out. The battery lasts 4 hours max after a full charge and today I took my phone off the docking charger and all my music has gone! The phone is breaking down more and more everyday what is going on! I know people who have had there iPhones years an non of this happen! I still have a year left on my contract too!

Who is your carrier and what is your coverage with them? If you are with say Verizon, and have Total Equipment Coverage or Extended Coverage, they will swap it out for you under Manufacturer Warrantee.

You should be able to use the battery if you get a car type charger which recharges mobile devices.
The full size iPads use a 10-12W charger, whereas the mini uses a 5W charger. Many car chargers only supply 5W. But at 5W, the car charger should give you some extra time on your iPad. It would be best to use a 10-12W car charger.

  • IPod mini battery lasts only 1h

I own an iPod mini 4gb which I bought 3 months ago.. From the time i started using it I noticed that its battery life was low compared to the one written on its features (about 6hours).. Now after a full charge if i dont use my ipod for about a day then it wont turn on and if i turn it on right after it is charged then the battery indicator raches its lowest point within 2 mins and it remains there for about an hour and then my iPod runs out of battery.. Dows my iPod has a defective battery? If it does will I get a free repair(incuding shipping costs since i live in cyprus)? Is it a software problem?

If your battery dies or cannot maintain a charge, Apple’s Service Request process will:
    - Replace it for free during the first 6 months of the warranty**
    - Replace it for a shipping charge (~$35) after 6 months and prior to the 1-year period **
    - Replace it for free if you have the additional AppleCare policy (this extends the warranty to 2 years)**
    - Replace it 'anytime' for a $59 charge (was $99 until 7-8-2005)
b This is regardless of where it was legitimately purchased.
i ** See the ‘Battery Test’ link below. This is how Apple determines if the battery is not performing. If the iPod’s battery lasts less than 50% of the ‘up to’ metric, then Apple considers it a problem. For example: This means less than 4 hours for a 1st Gen Mini and less than 9 hours for a 2nd Gen Mini. -- Best to perform this
