Battery Level Indicator with Logitech V270

I have the Logitech V270 Bluetooh mouse with my 15" G4 Powerbook. The mouse works great, but in the system preferences under Keyboard & Mice in the Bluetooth section, the battery indicator is greyed out and there is no mouse listed. Is this only for the Apple Bluetooth mouse? Thought it would be nice to see my batteries life in my Logitech.
Thanks!
Craig
15" G4 Powerbook Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I am using a Logitech V270 with a Mac Mini with built-in Bluetooth.
I have the same issue in the Keyboard & Mouse / Bluetooth preferences; the mouse name and battery indicator are grayed out.
I think the Logitech mouse is only minimally compatible with Mac OS X and its implementation of Bluetooth.
Furthermore, Logitech doesn't have any Mac OS-compatible software to enable button re-assignment on the mouse.

  • MacBook Pro battery level indicator is stuck at 100%

Got this MacBook Pro in January of 2008. Great machine, replaced battery last spring and more recently had some sort of repair done when the screen would not activate. No problems otherwise.  Now all of a sudden my battery level indicator is stuck at 100% regardless of actual battery charge level. The computer will allert me that it needs plugged in immediately or it will go to sleep, but it would be nice to have the indicator working again. Any ideas?

    If it's a pre-unibody MBP with a removable battery:
    1)  Shut the computer down
    2) Disconnect the Magsafe AC adapter
    3)  Remove the battery
    4)  Hold the power button down for 5-6 seconds
    5)  Reinstall the battery.
    6)  Connect the Magsafe adapter to power and turn the computer back on.
This will reset the System Management Controller.  One of the SMC's functions is reporting of the status and remaining charge of the battery.

  • MacbookPro loses connection with Logitech V270 periodically during use

My MacbookPro loses connection with Logitech V270 periodically during use. THis happens about every 5 to 10 minutes. I get the pic on the screen showing that the computer has lost the connection with the mouse and then after a few seconds it reconnects and works again. I've tested it out with my Powerbook and it works fine so I think it must be related to the MacbookPro. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

    Hi, Jeffrey!
Yes, there have been a few such problems discussed here, and in the MacBook Pro Bluetooth, USB... forum; the Other Bluetooth devices forum; and elsewhere in Apple Discussions related to Logitech V270 performance issues with both PPC and Intel-based Macs, &/or to Bluetooth performance in Intel-based Macs specifically. But, given an assumption or two about the number of participants who are not posting about such problems, my guess is that both Bluetooth and the V270 are working for many users. (By which I mean: let's presume the problem is amenable to troubleshooting...)
As an example, here's a link to a thread specifically about connection problems with the Logitech V270 — including various posts, apparently all by PPC users. But don't let "nay-sayers" get you down... By the way, the fact that the V270 works more reliably with your PowerBook is not, imo, definite proof that there's some inherent problem related to the MacBook Pro — various factors such as software, "pairing" and connection, differerent peripherals configuration, etc. may differ between the two Macs and affect the V270's functionality.
I'm not aware of single, straightforward underlying cause for what you're experiencing; some troubleshooting and trial-and-error may be required to resolve it. So, if I may, here are a few thoughts/suggestions; perhaps some may be relevant &/or helpful:
      (1) Although Logitech says here that the V270 doesn't require a driver for Mac OS X functionality, they did recently update the Logitech Control Center software to v.2.0.0 (download page + VersionTracker reviews) for Universal compatibility — so why not at least try it?  (Keep in mind that Logitech recommends uninstalling all of their outdated software before installing anew — and, thus, this would probably also be a good idea if LCC 2.0.0 doesn't work for you after giving it a solid "test drive.")
      (2) "3rd-party" drivers (like SteerMouse — also a Universal Binary — often improve functionality of Bluetooth-enabled mice. Although dropped connections are probably due to another factor, this is shareware and offers a trial period — so, again, no harm in checking it out.
      (3) There are various troubleshooting steps worth trying for lost Bluetooth connections. Some that you may come across aren't applicable to your MacBook Pro — because, for example, its Bluetooth firmware and software should be current after application of the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Combo for Intel Update. Some other things worth considering include those listed below. Hopefully, one will work and you won't need to try them all:
        (a) The best first step to try usually involves simply deleting your mouse's "pairing" and using the Bluetooth Setup Assistant (BSA) to reconfigure it just as you did initially after purchase.
        (b) Sometimes a variation of "power-cyling" (of the internal Bluetooth module and the mouse) helps with a problem like this. With a laptop, this would involve two basic steps. Shut down the MacBook Pro normally (not restart), and leave it off for several minutes before rebooting. Remove the mouse's batteries for at least 1 minute, then replace them (preferably with new) — taking care of their polarity and that they are seated properly. Check that the internal metal contacts/springs, etc. are clean, unbent, and free from corrosion. Some users have reported ~high sensitivity to the in-place voltage of batteries for the Bluetooth connection process to succeed. Leave the V270's "on/off switch" in the "off" position while starting-up the MacBook Pro, then turn it "on" and re-pair if necessary.
Some users have also reported success with Bluetooth-related problems by resetting PRAM and NVRAM. Others have tried resetting the Power Management Unit (PMU), although my personal virew is that (as described in the article just linked) this should always be considered a "last resort."  Article 303234 also lists both of these options.
        (c) Non-compliant USB device(s) and other USB-related issues (such as a device acting as a "traffic hog" through your controller) can cause this kind of problem. Most can be identified using the tried-and-true method of a process of elimination. (See, e.g., KnowledgeBase articles 58033 and 25243.)
        (d) Make a careful inventory of potential sources of 2.4 GHz RF interference in the environment(s) where the problems occur — and taking any appropriate steps to isolate and resolve any issues you may identify.
        (e) If nothing else has helped, perhaps further exploration is warranted.  Do you see anything in Activity Monitor or your system.log or console.log closely correlated to the times of "dropped connections" that may provide a clue about what's happening?
        (f) If the behavior began recently, re-applying the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Combo for Intel updater may be a step worth trying: several Bluetooth improvements were incorporated in this release, and reapplying the Combo updater has reportedly helped others with Bluetooth-related problems.
        (g) Although I don't recall an example of corrupt preferences causing this particular behavior, you may want to try removing ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist  and restarting (or logging-out and -in again), if nothing else has worked. As with any such preferences "refreshing," you'd need to reset things the way you like in System Preferences »» Bluetooth after this return to default preferences.
I hope something here is useful to you in troubleshooting and solving the intermittent "dropped-connections" problem.
Please post back to share your progress — it may help others.
    Regards,
    Dean

  • Battery Status Level In Desktop Manager Does Not Agree With Battery Level Indicated On My Curve 8330

I just got a new Curve 8330 from Verizon.  It came with a Desktop Manager 4.3 disc.  I installed it, but then learned that version 4.7 was available.  I uninstalled 4.3 and downloaded and installed 4.7 from RIM.  When I started to charge my Curve via USB cable to my PC, the Desktop Manager showed a battery charge of 37%.  My Curve was 100% charged later in the day, but the Desktop Manager still indicated it was only 37% charged.  I uninstalled 4.7 and reinstalled it, per advice of Verizon.  Then the Desktop Manager correctly showed a battery charge of 100%.  But as I used my Curve and used up battery to a 50% level (as indicated on the Curve), the Desktop Manager still showed a 100% charge.  A minor glitch with the Desktop Manager software?  Any solutions?  Thanks.

it's a glitch. The(false) value can be updated by going into the Help menu if I recall correctly.

  • Battery Level indicator is eratic

This weekend my MBP battery indicator has been acting very eratic. I put the machine on charge. Take off the power cord and it shows 100% charge, but says i only have 1hr 5 mins of usage. Yet as recently as yesterday that would show 3 hours plus. As im typing this post the indicator has risen back from 42 mins remaining to show 50 mins. (oh scrap that it suddenly dropped to 46mins again) I have 69% of the charge remaining. The indicator on my battery is showing 3 1/2 lights.
Do i need a new battery? Is it normal for a battery to go from full performance to this without any period of decline?
    Any help appreciated.

You might try resetting the SMC and calibrating your battery:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411?viewlocale=en_US
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490
Your battery should have up to 80% of its capacity at 300 cycles. How old is the battery? They do decline with age as well as with cycles.
Also, check the battery carefully for any distortion, bulging, or leaks. Here is another battery article that might apply if you feel your battery has a problem. It will describe the characteristics of a faulty battery:

  • Low battery level indicated on BT Keyboard

I went several months on the included alkaline batteries that were included on the included Apple BT Keyboard. After that I switched to Energizer Rechargeable (2500 mAh), and since then performance has been very poor. I can put in a fresh pair and I'm lucky if it shows 50% battery life. Constant disconnects, as well as the range of the device seems less. Is the keyboard a demanding device, are these batteries underpowered? I've had no issues with these batteries in other devices, including the magic mouse.

Rechargeable batteries are only 1.2 volts as opposed to the alkaline batteries which are 1.5 volts. It will not show 100%. I just put rechargeable batteries in my mouse. It showed 75% at first. Quickly went to 50% from there, but, they are holding up well since. I plan to use the alkaline in the keyboard since they last a long time as oppose to the mouse.
Try putting alkaline back in the keyboard and see if you get 100% reading. I don't think the keyboard is more demanding, but since it uses less battery than the mouse, I would just leave use the alkaline if you have no problems with them.

  • Why not an External Battery Level Indicator?

One of the features I really like on my MacBook Pro (and all previous Apple laptops I owned) is the small little button in the bottom of the computer (in the battery) that allow us to see the battery charge status without having to turn on the computer (Press the button next to the lights and the lights will glow briefly to show how much charge is left in the battery.). I found it really useful and allows me not to charge a battery that is already charged.
Anyways, as far as I can tell, the MacBook Air lacks this feature. Can anyone confirm this for me?
I don't think it would be very difficult for Apple to incorporate this in the bottom of the laptop.
    Cheers

You are right, it's not on the MBA.
I do miss it too.... more than the DVD, Firewire or Ethernet jack everyone else complaints about...

  • 10.5.8 won't show UPS battery level

I just installed an APC Smart UPS 1000 VA UPS to my Mac Pro server.  The USB cable is plugged in and the UPS battery is fully charged according to the display on the UPS itself.  The Energy Saver control panel is the APC preferred control method (they do not supply software for MAC OS X after 10.4) and all the controls appear as expected with the exception that the Battery Level indicator at the top of the Prefs panel shows 0% full.
I've unplugged and plugged it back in to no effect.  I restarted the server.  I turned off the power at the wall switch and the UPS ran the server with no dramas for about 10 minutes.  Nothing I tried had any effect.
There is nothing in the APC support site other than instructions for using Energy Saver panel.
Our power here has been pretty flaky this year and I want the server to gracefully shut down after about 10 minutes of an outage.  It won't work if the UPS won't talk to the copmputer.

Have you checked to see if another USB device works on the USB port the UPS is connected to?

  • Inaccurate battery level

Here and in other places, I have seen several complaints about lack of a correct battery level indicator. This seems to be the case with more than one phone model. Considering short battery life, it is a real problem that battery level cannot be checked with any accuracy. I sometimes have 7 bars when I turn off my 6220 classic, and 4 when I turn it on again after a short while. This shows that the firmware checks battery level very seldom or that the procedure has very little precision. Checking with PhoNetInfo or NSysInfo gives the same result. They seem to reflect the firmware's reading.
It cannot be so difficult to make the firmware check more often. Why has this not been done?
Is there no software that is capable of doing its own direct check?

it's not difficult to have the software or firmware that check batt level more... pool more but:
    - The more you do, the more batt it's used... therefore shorten your batt life again.
    - The batt has IC chip built in, and the batt after you use a while capacity is less and less and your chip may malfunction, which may give you incorrect value and batt life shorts.
Even if you turn off your phone it still used the battery as if you set alarm and turn off, it will turn on and sounds.
This is a feature too that ppl want...
    Hope this helps

  • Help! iPhone 5 restarting by itself! Battery level won't change after charging.

    HELP!
I have a 3 month old iPhone 5 that was recently updated to iOS 7. After a few days of use, I noticed after a night of charging, which I always do, the battery level indicator and percentage did not change. Next, in my carpool ride in to work, when using the iPhone, randomly the screen would freeze, then turn a random color and would shut off and restart.
Then all of a sudden it was fine, no issues.
Then today, the same thing is happening. The battery level, freezing/color changing on the screenscreen/restarting issues are back.
I don't know whats going on. Never had an issue with any of 3 past my iPhones.
    Thanks in advance,
    Josh

I'm sorry, it seems that the problem is that my phone WON'T restore. I just tried restoring again and it keeps giving me the 2001 error. Help.

  • Itunes never shows the battery level as charged.

left the shuffle connected overnight yet the battery level indicator in itunes remains a charging thunderbolt. any clue what gives? don't have the issue with the classic.

hmmm ... apparently an itunes glitch: it failed to notice when the other ipod was sated as well (the classic is a bit easier than the shuffle to independently determine its battery status). seems to be a random failure as for the last couple connections, the battery status for the shuffle was updated.

  • Is Magic Mouse Battery Level Fixed in Lion?

Just wondering if the Magic Mouxe battery level indicator in the Mouse preference pane is fixed in Lion.  I can't remember exactly, but I think it broke in 10.6.7 and wasn't fixed in 10.6.8.  I'm now using 10.6.8 and it always reads 100%.
    Thanks.

It never did work for me in 10.6.7 or 10.6.8.  I would use my two Magic Mice (one at home and one at work) until they stopped working and they still said 100%.  I would then recharge and they would be fine and still read 100%.
At one point, I put a pair of batteries in one of my Magic Mice that my camera said were out of juice.  The preference pane in the Mac OS still said 100%.
Obviously, if you found that the Mouse preference pane in 10.6.7 was working, there is something screwy with my system.  I'll be using Lion come Friday and hopefully this will be resolved.
    Thanks for the reply.

  • Magic mouse battery level

My magic mouse battery level indicator doesn't seem to update. I view it under the BlueTooth menu, and can't seem to force it to reset.

It's definiately a somewhat expensive convenience. I think the battery door on the Magic Mouse isn't designed very well, and makes changing / swapping rechargeable batteries more difficult than it should be. I've replaced the Mobee battery pack once after over 2 years of daily usage & weekly recharging. I'm sure there are less expensive options, possible even as convenient, but I received this as a gift, and I like it with the exception of not knowing when it's in need of recharge in order to get through my next session without having to fall back to a usb mouse. For what it's worth, that's my experience.
    Thanks again for the suggestion!

Can I use this framework to get the battery level .
In web, there are lot of talks that this is kind of private framework.so dont use it.Can we use this framework to create appstore iOS app.
    Thanks,
