Battery Life going down! NEED HELP!

I have only had my Macbook Pro since Christmas Day! The battery life tends to get only about two hours with a full charge! I am extremely happy with the performance and everything that it has done. I have looked for help but everyone says they love the battery life and it is phenomenal. I tend to keep my brightness on the 4th or 5th "click" and keyboard backlight off unless i am in dark which is very rare. I would love some help before making myself look like a fool to the support team. If i could have some help or some succesful past experiences that would be great!
Sincerely NEW macbook user

Are you running the Windows emulation program Parallels? There was aproblem with one version where a background process of Paralles cused the Dock to use all the processor cycles:

If you are not running that program, I would take it back to Apple for their evaluation.

  • Why is my battery life going so quickly

I just bought this iPad mini and the battery life goes down 5% in a half hour. How can I get more battery life?

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Help, iphone 3gs battery life go down in 3h abroad

Hi everyone, my iphone 3gs battery in italy is perfectly normal, when i go for example in spain or in greece ( no different voltage) the phone is 100% in the morning but after 4 h without call, message, wifi or 3g activated run out at all.
I try to close all the app, close all tab of safari, roaming is off for the data, i clear history and i reset it....
I dont know what else i could do...
    Help plese! Thanks

    Update of the firmware?
    Thanks
That is NOT what you said previously. You said: "I try to close all the app, close all tab of safari, roaming is off for the data" We are NOT psychic. Your original statement does NOT indicate that you have 3g off.
If the phone is unable to lock onto the preferred  provider you set in manual mode, it will be constantly searching for the carrier signal. This will drastically reduce battery life. If you are out of range of the carrier you want to use, put the phone in airplane mode.

  • Not Receiving eMail, Battery Life Going Fast

This weekend, all of a sudden my battery life started going fast, and then I was not receiving eMail messages.  I have re-registered all my eMails at att.Blackberry and pulled the battery out to restart my phone.  I can send eMails, but am still not receiving on my bberry.  Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Nathan
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Solved by pinkdaisies...thanks Rock Star!  See below
Finally a solution that worked!! T-Mobile and Customer Care unfortunately were not able to assist, but Research in Motion(RIM) the manufacturer of my phone solved the email problem! Apparently, the older version of facebook causes conflicts with reception of emails.  You need to go into your Options, Advanced Options, then Applications, then choose Facebook.  Click the menu key, and then select modules, then scroll all the way down your list until you see "net_rim_bb_facebook".  Beside it you will see the version number.  You need to have version 1.2.0.35
If you have an earlier version, delete Facebook.  When you delete it you will be prompted to restart your phone.  When you restart, the facebook icon will be on your phone's "desktop."  Click on it, and it will take you to the website so you can download the new version.

  • MacBook Pro Battery Life: Linc Davis please help!

    Hello
I recently upgraded my operating system to Lion. I noticed that the battery life has changed dramatically. Before the upgrade, the battery lasted about 7 hours but now, it doesn't last more than 3 hours. I am thinking that the upgrade has something to do with it. What should I do now? I read something about recaliberating the battery but a lot of comments from the users said that it didn't help them. Do I need to roll back the upgrade and go back to Snow Leopard? If you have any suggestions or ideas, please post them.
    - What is the ideal use of a MacBook in terms of the battery life? I usually charge it and keep using it until the battery is almost empty. Is that good or do I need to keep it plugged to a power source if I am not mobile?
    - In case I format my computer and go back to Snow Leopard, what happens to all the programs that I purchased from the App Store? How can I get them back?
    Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I checked the console and here is what it showed me:

  • Hi! everyone, I'm here to say : Wow! my battery is going down a lot fast.

, and I though it was my device , but recently i made a research and i could find some other people than have the same problem .
I have the problem with my Iphone 4s , and I beg apple could fix that problem out please maybe in a new update with the ios or something .

first, chrome is using up most of your battery life.
second, open activity monitor, under all processes, see what's using up most of your CPU's resources. highlight the ones using the highest % CPU and hit quit process.
also see what you have loading in your login items - delete the ones you don't need.
optional - open disk uitility and verify disk permissions - repair if needed - this might take an hour or two depending on the amount of errors found.
as for your battery, you can leave it plugged in all the time if you want to.  this will not hurt your battery since it will stop charging once it's fully charged.
also, once in a while, use your battery under it's own power and when it's down to 80%, plug it back in and charge it back to 100%.  This will keep your battery in optimal condition.
once a month, let it run down to 20% and charge it back up.
never let your battery run all the way down to 0.  this can do more harm than good to your macbook.
    good luck.

  • Mavericks ruined battery life - Tracking down the cause? Mismatched RAM?

My 2011 MacBook Pro 13" is only at 245 out of 1000. My battery life was easily 7 hours until I upgraded to Mavericks. Now I'm lucky to see 5. Right now I'm sitting at 4 and I just barely took it off the charger.
No I'm not running a crapload of apps. Currently, Safari and Mail are the only ones open. I used to run lots more apps on Lion and still acheive 7 hours battery life.
I have disabled a number of background process such as automatic updates and the like. My Bluetooth is off. My infrared remote receiver is off. All in all, I consider myself decently adept at keeping thigns running efficiently.
I'm stumped. Could it be that I am running mismatched RAM sticks? I have 10GB total, 2GB+8GB.
I've done lots of reading, this issue seems to hit people at random. Some people report almost 9 hours of battery with Mavericks, others report that their battery performance has taken a hit.
Could this issue be related to the slow-sleep issue that lots of Mavericks users are experiencing? (Search com.apple.iohideventsystem.queue.tickle in Google; this process is causing a lot of sleep-grief for people)
Is there a terminal command that shows what is going on with my battery?

Forgot to mention, I tried a SMC reset. Twice. No change.

  • Battery life diminishing rapidly! help!?

i have a macbook pro OS X 10.4.11 purchased august of 2006 with 309 cycles on it. the battery life in the last month has dimished rapidly in the last 3 weeks, like really rapidly, and now i can barely get 30 minutes of life out of the computer on the battery, as opposed to the 2 hours i was getting a month ago.
what should i do? is 309 too many cycles for apple to help me out? what are the terms for getting a new battery? how do i maintain good battery life? is it better to keep it plugged in AC as much as possible? is there ANY way to make my battery life longer??? help!!

With the number of cycles you have logged, your capacity is not surprising. It is also too large for Apple to offer a replacement. A friend had the same issue, with a computer roughly the same age, and was classified as a "heavy battery user".
The best thing to do is buy a new battery, and start doing regular calibration of the battery to catch the loss of capacity sooner. To reduce the number of cycles you may want to plug in when possible, but do use the battery, as they prefer to have their electrons moved.
I, for example, leave my MBP plugged in at home, but run on battery for the most part at work. If giving a presentation I will plug the computer in, as I will if the battery gets below 50%. After 6 months I have 24 complete cycles on my battery.

  • I updated both iPad and iPhone to iOS 7.06. Battery lif goes extremely fast, maybe a tenth of what it was.

I updated to the latest version of the iOS. My battery life on both iPad and iPhone have dropped to nothing. My phone goes dead by noon. I have turned off every "push" locator, everything I can think off. Is anyone else having this trouble?

On my iPad 3, I noticed with the update to iOS 7.0.6 that it turned on features by default that I had previously turned off, such as Bluetooth. You might want to check to see if active features are now turned on that you previously turned off. Some of them, like Bluetooth, will cause an additional drain on the battery.

  • Battery capacity going down way too fast

So problem is that my mbp 13" is about 2 weeks old and battery capacity seems to going down too fast. I only have 2 cycles and I did calibration 4 days ago. When I bought it, it was like 5770 or smth and now it's 5500. Think it's normal or maybe it's just wrong info there?

  • Iphone 5 battery is flat awful, need help?

Hello.  I bought my iphone 5 on Saturday, December 8th.  I've quickly noticed in just over a week that my iphone5 battery is just awful, plain awful.  I'm an upgraded user who had the iphone 4s.  I never had a battery problem ever.  It lasted all day long with just texts and a few very short phone calls.  However, with the 5, my battery is not even lasting 3/4 the day.  Yes, I've looked everywhere and found no real answer.  I've turned off nearly every notification setting, I've changed my mail settings--in other words I've gone on multiple sites and have used every tip for better battery life and nothing worked at all.
I work 9am-6pm.  If I come in with a full charge at 9am and simply just text all day it uses over half the battery.  For instance, last night at 9pm it was fully charged.  I texted, maybe 50-100 times (imessage if that makes a difference) had a 30 minute phone call, went to bed at 11pm.  It's now 9:45am, have sent about 10 texts this morning and my batter is like 30% left.  Now how is that possible?
Do I have a defective battery?

So what exactly is your question?
My iPhone 5 goes for two full days and still has battery left.

  • I recently got my iphone 4 wet now the back of my phone is burning hot and battery life goes within an hour, do i need to replace it?

my iphone battery is burning hot and the power goes to low battery in 20 minutes and charging takes all day does anyone know how to fix this or do i need to replace it for a new one, thank you

Make an appointment at the genius bar and get the phone replaced. It will cost you US$149 for an out of warranty replacement.
Do NOT keep it turned on. Do NOT use it. It is a fire hazard now.

  • URGENT!- ibook slowing down, NEED HELP BADLY

    Good day.
When I bought my ibook, i upgraded the RAM of this right away. i added a 512MB RAM. I was happy with the way it was performing. After a few months, i decided to buy an externat 40GB hard drive because i found the internal hard drive too small and love downloading song and shows over the internet. after a few months, i noticed that my ibook slowed down. before, the "beachball " would seldom appear. now it appears alot. i just noticed that my ibook has really slowed down. i admit, i download a lot. but all these downloads go straight to the external hard drive. the files that i save in the internal hard drive are only excel, word, and pwerpoint files. very small. anyone can help me? is there something that i can use to speed up my ibooks performance? what should i do? is there such a thing as defragment (just like the one of a pc).

    Hi Michaelgnm,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Try verifying and repairing permissions (Knowledge Base Document #106712 on Troubleshooting permissions issues in Mac OS X). Do you notice you slow during certain times. An example would be working an file from your external hard or using iPhoto. How much hard drive space do you have on your internal hard drive? You may want try deleting programs that you don't use (on my iBook I don't use Garage Band, iDVD, etc). Maybe freeing up some space can help speed things up.
A great program to show you exactly what is on your computer is WhatSize.
If you are going to use WhatSize to delete any files/programs/applications, please be careful and make sure you know exactly what you are deleting and if there are any repercussions. WhatSize will show you files that you would not normally see; they are referred to as "invisible files". These invisible files are hidden from the users view because they would clutter the desktop and they hold vital information that if corrupted or deleted may cause problems. Please make sure you know what you are doing!
Have you deleted files that you don't use; like for my iBook, GarageBand. I use GarageBand on my iMac because it is much easier and faster, so I deleted it on my iBook. Have you tried the "erase install method"? The reason for doing this is because Mac OS X installs all the necessary fonts, languages, drivers, etc that people all over the world my need, by default. This tends to take up some room that you might want to get rid of (make sure first what you don't need and need). You erase and install your system software (Knowledge Base Document 301270 About Install Options w/ Mac OS X 10.4), and when installing, do a custom install. This way you can install the languages, drivers, and applications you want. The same technique can be done with iLife.
Do you using any "pro" applications (Adobe Photo CS, Aperture, etc)? You may want to try using a program like OnyX to run some maintenance scripts.
    I hope that helps,
    Jon

NOW! Some points for new and old customers of the battery problem. Hopefully I can give you my individual feelings and let you see better of your own battery problems.
I have had my MBP 2.4GHZ since 1 Sep last year, so not very long at all. Me and the GF bought apples(she got the macbook 2.16 in white).
Personally, I thought I'd try the mac thing, and to be honest, and im being honest, it does not suit as me as well as Windows at all. Even itunes seems to be quicker on windows using the same hardware (bootcamp XP pro).
Anyway, My three and a half thousand dollar Macbook has been behaving Like crap. Its all 'judders on the main page, when I scroll through the doc. It is temperamental anywhere but home connecting to the internet. So i have re installed Leopard, yes i bothered, but more so for boot camp.
    And now battery problems.
How come the Macbook will just CUT/Power STRAIGHT OFF while im using it even though its plugged in? Now i did the SMC thing, and the recharge cycle thing... And now when i looked down to see if it was a charging, the LED (green/orange one) was not even on, even though the screen was indicating it was charging.... As you can see my battery is very new with 84 cycles.
Whats the story because im all up for loyalty guys, but if i spend big money for example on a BMW, because I like the style and quality, im going to be pretty ****** when it acts like a commodore and smells like cab.
What going on, why are their so many issues with this iCrap.
    Dennis

You need to elevate and throw a fan on that thing. When you are playing "Gears" the fans are going to be extra loud. My book explodes when I game on it. It, however, has never hard crashed. You could try to test your cpu temps with SMCfancontrol. Plus you can custom the use of your fans. Crank the fans and run http://www.coolbook.se/CPUTest.html
Check your temps at their hottest and post back.
Your processors may be manufactured faultily. Too much thermal grease, weird fan issues etc.
    Who knows?
Thermal shutdown (I think) is somewhere in the 100ºC range. Someone?
    Then they shut off.
If they are maxing at 70-80ºC, I think that is considered normal with the Macbook Pros. Even though it is pretty high. At least for the merom Core 2 Duo's.
Gears of War is also running on an emulated software layer (In Leopard), I think. So the macbook works a bit harder at it than a straight XP notebook.
You should really install Windows via Boot Camp for gaming imo. The frames are WAY better and are pretty much pound for pound the same as a similar XP rig. DirectX just spanks OS X in games.
The Macbook pro will do it, why not?
And if the battery has been taking all this heat you should really get it replaced.
It has been flakey enough. And you can scratch that off the list of possible culprits.

  • Adapter light GREEN but battery does not charge NEED HELP, PLEASE!

My battery won't charge but the problem is a little different from others I have seen posted. The battery shows 3% charge but the adapter light is green. If the computer adapter is disconnected, the computer shuts down (as we would expect at 3% charge). I used another MacBook Pro cord to plug in and the same thing happens.

I purchased this 15" MacBook Pro (Oct 2006) from a reputable non Apple Apple dealer but f course this problem started a week or so after it was out of their resale warranty. There is nothing to say "check battery" just that it is not charging. It is a trek to ANY apple dealer or reseller and it is hard for me to get there easily so I was hoping someone might have an idea what is wrong and do what I can from home. Could it just be the battery? It seems more like a problem with the adapter connection. OCCASIONALLY, the light on the adapter will flicker on orange/red for a few seconds before going to green.
    THANKS!

The only way to tell if you have a hardware problem is to trek on down to your local AS or AASP for them to run some diagnostic tests. If it turns out to be just the battery, you can purchase directly from them. I am assuming you do not have AppleCare....
Not sure if you can run the same tests at home. Hopefully, you have the right tools. Search through the following "do-it-yourself" sites:
    iFixit
    TakeItApart
Also do a YouTube search. Loads of Macbook Pro +"how to"+ videos.
    Good luck!
