Battery life icon freeze

Well, this is hardly novel, but my battery life icon tends to be wrong. In the sense that it sticks, say at (3:06) remaining, and right until the moment it sleeps itself will say (3:06)...unless I change the display under "show." At which point it unsticks itself.
I reset the PRAM. I'm also having a probably unrelated issue whereby the printer utility is not able to see shared printers. All of this only started happening after I updated to 10.4.6.
Anyone else have this problem?
Molly

Molly,
"Repair Disk Permissions" from Disk Utility may help.
Also, re-installing the latest combo update may help as well.

  • Frustration. (Sad Ipod Icon & Battery Life icon)

So this is the second ipod the store has given me and it seems that it too has decided to die within 7 months. For some reason, let me say that it was fine last night, is displaying the sad ipod icon. When I hold the menu & select buttons it goes to the battery life icon? So yeah what do I do now? I mean Im going to try to recharge it. I had it plugged in for a while and it came up like it was working then died again. I'm so annoyed because it seems like Mac can't make an ipod that lasts more than 7 months. Stupid. I take care of the thing like I would my own child. If anyone has any ideas of what to do let me know.

yeah that happened to me too, today.
and i've had mine for 16 months.
and i have no idea what to do.
i do have a 2 year warranty on it.

  • Mountain Lion Drops Battery Life and Freezes Often, Mountain Lion Drops Battery Life and Freezes Often, Mountain Lion Drops Battery Life and Freezes Often

I use MacBook Pro 13", 2011 edition. Since I installed Mountain Lion, my MBP's battery life drop from 7+ hours to roughly 5 hours overnight. Worse still, it freezes about once a day. Does anybody else experience this? Got tips to troubleshoot these issues?

I initially had similar issues with Mountain Lion, however I thought it was isolated to my configuration. I did make some adjustments using the command line power management tool and the difference are night and day. I never thought it amy have been a change in Mountain Lion. In any case, given the prevalence of this, I created a blog listing the changes I made and explaining it for those with increased interest.

  • Why is there an X in my battery life icon

I have been trying to charge my MacBook but the percentage won't change and there is just an X in the battery sign. I've tried to restart, to charge when the computer is off, but the x won't go away. What should I do, so it will charge again?

Along with Lorne, I noticed this when I was running on the AC adapter without my battery installed. Try taking the battery out and putting it back in again. If it appears to be installed properly, check for any bulging parts. I had a bulging battery, which was why I had my battery out and running on the AC adapter in the first place. The bulging battery problem (a subject of several other threads) is also characterized by reduced battery life, random shutdowns, and bizarre trackpad behavior before the bulge becomes noticeable from the outside of the computer.
Question: did your computer work without the AC adapter before you noticed this problem? If it did, than your battery was contacting, and I have no idea what is going on, unless there was a change in battery contact.
    Good luck.

  • Battery Life on A10

    Hello
Have had A10 almost 2 years, Now when you run it on battery only I am lucky if it lasts 10 mins before closing down. The battery life icon says expected life I expect ie in hours. My A10 just powers down regardless to what percentage is there.
Is it a set-up/power management problem? A fault battery? What is an averge life of a battery?
    Regards

Many thanks, I thought the battery could be on its way out. So if you have your laptop plugged into mains with battery in does all the power for the laptop come from the battery or main? yes the battery charges but once charged is it left alone till needed or is it always being drained from battery and being topped whenever plugged into mains power, if that the way then no wonder they only last few years.

  • My iphone is currently using battery life much more quickly than inthe past, and it also has an icon tht is starying on the screen, to the left of the battery charge percentage, that looks like a lock with a circle around it

i have an iphone that is using battery life much more quickly than in the past, a full charge is going to zero in a half a day or so, with out much use.
an icon is also appearing next to the charge percentage in the top right, and the icon is a circle around a lock
can anyone tell me what the problem is, and what the icon means?

The Icon meas your display orientation is locked to vertical so it wont change when you turn the phone sideways.
First thing you should check with the battery life is multitasking, which also happens to be where the orientation lock can be turned off.  check out   http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4211 and go from there

  • There is an "x" over my battery icon and even though it's plugged in it's still telling me that there is 0% battery life, what does this mean?

My macbook all of a sudden crashed. When I turned it back on, the fan was running, the battery icon had an "X" over it, and although the power cord is plugged in and the light on it is green, the battery life is still saying that it is 0%. What is wrong with my computer!?

    Hi Jen.
It appears that the battery is perhaps faulty. If you go to  -> About This Mac -> More Info -> Power, could you please tell us the Full Charge Capacity (FCC) in mAh, and the Cycle Count please.
Also, you could try resetting the SMC, to see if that makes a difference.
    Good luck

here is an interesting thing: take the iphone and set lock screen to never. Now make an email with siri--be sure to activate her with call button. get to the body and get some text in there. then just stop talking. LOCK SCREEN APPEARS!!!!!! and of course you draft is gone.
There does seem to be a work around for some--maybe all these issues. Don't use the call button--use the buttons on the phone.
Siri seems to behave properly with scenerio above---sans call button. She does not go to lock.

  • Lumia Icon: Differing Battery Life

Owners of white Lumia Icons, including myself, have noticed disappointing battery life, while owners of Black Icons have stellar battery life, lasting up to 24 hours. I'd usually pin this on differing styles of use, but the problem is widespread enough that it deserves an investigation by support. Perhaps it's due to Nokia using differing firmware depending on the color of the phone?
And yes, I have tried the usual battery saving tactics.
Links to reddit threads where users discuss the issue:

To say there is two different hardwears in a different coloured device is bonkers, imo, mainly this is all in the head as tow saying the black one is different than the white one,if your device is not up to par and you feel there is an issue return it to point of puchase or a nokia care point..
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

  • Nokia 301: short battery life - H icon always on?

Hi I just got my new Nokia 301, and the battery is not holding out very long. I hardly use the phone, and internet says that the battery life on standby should be like a month (1000+ hours), but in a few days (maybe 2 and a half) it's empty.
Now I notice there is always a [h] icon on my phone, which seems to indicate it's online. But in the settings I made double sure that it is set to 'online only when needed'.
Is my phone online the whole time and is that what I draining the battery so fast?
Or is that not a problem and is there just something wrong with my phone and/or battery?
    Thanks!

    Hi BramV,
Thank you for posting and welcome to the Nokia Support Discussions!
If you see the 'H' icon, it doesn't necessarily means that the phone isconstantly connected to the Internet since you set it to only use data connection if needed. It means that it's the strongest network available that the phone is able to pick up.
However, if you're experiencing battery issues, you may try troubleshooting the phone.
    1. Restart the phone. Don't forget to remove and replace the battery before restarting.
    2. Restore the original settings. Go to 'Menu', and then 'Settings', select 'Restore Factory settings',
and then 'Settings only'. Type your lock code (default is 12345). This will not erase anything on the phone.
    3. Update the phone software. Go to 'Menu', and then 'Settings' , select 'Phone' and click on 'Device updates' .
    4. Clear the device. The steps are the same with restoring the original settings, but choose 'Restore all' instead of 'Settings only'. This will erase all the files in the phone and making a backup is advised.
To make a backup, go to 'Menu', and then 'Settings', and then 'Sync & backup'. Click on 'Create backup' and then hit 'Done'.
You may also try using another compatible charger to further isolate the issue.
    Hope this information helps.
    Cheers!

  • My 3gs has a icon at the top right next to the battery life that looks like a lock with an arrow around it and i dont know what it mean or what i did to get it there any help?

my 3gs has a icon at the top right next to the battery life that looks like a lock with an arrow around it and i dont know what it mean or what i did to get it there any help?

Screen orientation lock.  Double click the home button to bring up the recent app bar.  Then finger swipe left-to-right to bring up the iPod controls.  The icon on the far left (circle with lock in it) is the orientation lock button - press it, and the lock will go away.

  • After upgrading to iOS 8 the iPhone 5c start freezing, battery life is too short, etc.

After Upgrade to iOS 8 the iPhone 5c start freezing, battery life is too short, and to open an app it as to restart the phone.
How to downgrade to iOS 7.
    Thanks,
    <Re-Titled By Host>

Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not help, setting it up as new device without using any backup would be the next step:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support
Maybe also take a look at this page about battery drainage

Anthony (or anyone else monitoring this thread):
So, what was the outcome of the troubleshooting session with "windycity"?
I don't have a problem with a mysterious icon; however, the anemic battery issue is exactly as windycity described: new charged-up Samsung Haven phone is on; no calls in or out; no text messages either; however, in slightly less than 24 hours, the Haven goes from having a fully-charged battery to one that's dead, or just about.
Like windycity, I bought this simple phone for my father, who just wants a phone he can make voice calls with, nothing more.
However, the sad peformance of this phone+battery has not helped me in my campaign to at least get him to dip his toes into the digital stream -- in fact, he wants me to take it back and cancel the plan!
I'd really rather not do that, but we'll need some kind of resolution to this problem first.
