Battery life sudden drop off!

Hi all i have had my iphone4 for about 3 months with no problems at all! in fact it been great. But i charged it up last night as normal and went out for the day and notice that the battery was going flat very fast?
I was not useing the phone at all as i was busy and only check it for emails ect nothing unnormal.
I went out at 10.30 and it was flat by 4pm and i mean dead!I charged it again and its now been off charge for 2hrs and is at 60% already.
I had a 3gs before this (my wife has it now) and it is still as good as new and thats a year old or more.
Has the battery had it? if so why?
PLEASE HELP LOL
Regards
Andy

I have a similar symptom to the original post, and have tried the reboot suggestions, but they didn't work. I have had the phone for a month or so, replacing a 2G, and initially battery life was about the same. The battery will not last even for a day. When I went to bed last night, the phone had 70% charge and it was completely dead by the morning today.
To diagnose a separate issue (data use increased 5x to 10x on both my phone and my wife's 3G iPhone after changing to the 200MB/mo plan), I started shutting down potential data users: no push, no fetch, no notifications, made sure apps were not running in the background, etc. It doesn't seem to make sense, but I would say that battery life got worse.
My question: is there any utility or available to check or log what's going on in the phone?
Thanks!

  • IPhone 4 Battery life suddenly dropped by half

    Hi Everyone,
I have a 3 month old iPhone 4 running IOS 4.2.1 since it became available. The battery had been performing fine till 2 days ago. Now I start out with it fully charged in the morning and the battery had died at 2pm in the afternoon when all I've done is make a few minutes of phone calls and sent a few texts. Anyone have any ideas on what i can do about it?

    Hi zzzaaazzz,
The same thing happened to my 4-months-old iPhone 4 running the same iOS version as yours. The fast battery drain was only one of the symptoms in my case. I also noticed that the responsiveness of the phone became slower and slower. I turned off the location service, push notification, even Wi-Fi and the battery still drained and the UI still very slow. I noticed that the phone was trying to connect on the network (the circular rotating icon next to the AT&T bar at the top left corner) almost constantly (with a few seconds break here and there). I took the phone to a local Apple Store's Genius Bar and they diagnosed that the network connector service on the phone is crashing, restarting, and crashing. The best way to resolve is to restore as a new phone, and not to restore with the old data. In deed they were right. I tried restoring as a new phone and then restored my old data which restored the same problem as well. So, it took me some time but I restored the phone as new then manually re-loaded all apps, music, video, and configured mail accounts, etc. The problem has gone away after this. I still don't know which app caused it, but all apps are working now. Hope this helps.

  • Battery Life suddenly reduced

Hi. Beginning a little over a week ago my battery life suddenly reduced by about half. My iPhone is warmer now, even when it's not in use. It wasn't coincident with anything I noticed, e.g. no new iOS release, no change in application use. I've reviewed my Location Services, no unexpected grey GPS symbols (and no purple of course). Does anyone have any ideas as to what might cause this?

  • Ipod touch has bad battery and suddenly turns off

Ipod touch has bad battery and suddenly turns off but only works when its on a dock with speaker...
any advice on what to do, because i am thining of getting the battery replace

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Battery life suddenly terrible on iPhone 4

I've been having my iPhone 4 for about a year and a half now and never had any issues with the battery life. But yesterday, the battery life suddenly decreased exponentially. I typically do a "hard reset" on my phone every few days because it tends to get slow or buggy after a while.
So yesterday after a hard reset, my battery went from 100% to just over 80% in about 15 minutes of music playback on the iPod/Music app — no streaming from the Web and no other apps open. The battery percentage continued tanking throughout the day even though I was only occasionally sending texts and never really using any data. I pulled it from my pocket to check the time and noticed it was dead, only about four hours after I'd completely charged it to 100%.
The battery life has never been close to this bad, and the only thing I think could have had any effect on it was the hard reset I did yesterday afternoon. I haven't recently updated the software or installed any new apps. The strange thing is that the battery life seems to go by even faster when the phone's idle. Looking through Facebook posts or playing games don't drain it as much it just sitting on my desk. Any idea what might work? Thanks.

I've encountered the exact same.  I now keep the phone plugged/tethered to the computer all day to conserve battery live.  My usage is the same but I'm wondering if the notifications are to blame for the shortened life.  Withoout plugging the phone in the battery may not make the entire day.

  • Apple Bluetooth headset battery life indicator drops VERY rapidly

hi all. Just bought the apple Bluetooth headset yesterday. After it is fully charged the battery life indicator drops to half after only being on stanby for about 15 minutes. I tried fully draining it and recharging but no difference. Is this normal? Thanks.

Same issue on two "old" (with dock) Apple BT Headsets purchased on 3G release day. Returned and exchanged for 2 "new" ones (no dock, $30 refund) two weeks later. The new headsets have the same abysmal battery life. Note, however, that the battery life indicator is not terribly accurate - after dropping into the red by the end of the day, if left on standby mine doesn't actually run out of power and shut down for almost 48 hours.
IMHO, if you like the easy pairing and can charge your Apple BT Headset at some point during the day (I used one of the $30 refunds to buy an extra travel cable for work), keep it. If you need to go all day and use the headset heavily, get a different brand.
    Hope this helps...

  • Sudden drop off in battery

I've had my MBP for 2 years now. The battery was replaced early on, by a recall, so the battery is younger. A few months ago, I was somewhere around 80% health, with about 2+ hours of battery life. In a matter of days, it dropped to about 30% and has been hanging there. Now, I am just over 300 cycles, and I only get about 45 minutes.
Also, the battery charges fine for the first 50% or more (50% as the OS sees it) but after that, the charger light flashes between green and orange every 1.5secs. and takes hours to charge to to 100%
Do I need a new battery, or is there something else to blame.

Very likely it is the battery, as the green/orange flashing light has been reported elsewhere. Your battery should be at 80% health at 300 cycles, not 30% health. It could be that you have a defective battery which might be covered by the following battery program:
    http://www.apple.com/support/macbook_macbookpro/batteryupdate/
At 300 cycles, yours is right on the margin, but since it is definitely malfunctioning, it might still be covered. Try calling Apple or taking it by an Apple Store and see if they would consider giving you a free replacement under this program. Be prepared to mention the link or carry a printout, as not all Apple employees seem to be familiar with this particular program.
    Good luck!

  • Audio suddenly drop off when Airplaying video into Apple TV

I´m trying to stream the content from my MacBook Air into my TV via my Apple TV using Airplay. Both audio and video work fine the first seconds on the TV then, suddenly, the sound drops off.
All the sw is updated, the problem began after the latest Apple TV update.
Does anybody have any ideas on how to solve this ?? (The solutions exposed in other threads doesn´t solve my problem)
    Thank you in advance

+I figure the wireless transfer between the Mac mini and the Apple TV would be the limiting factor, but felt it prudent to at least check if the Firewire connection would have an effect.+
+If not, then I plan on picking up a cheap, used older model Mac mini with the 400 Firewire port to save some cash.+
No doubt the wireless transfer is the weakest link in the chain. Firewire 800 is substantially faster than 400, so you would gain some future-proofing by going with it. And the 2009 Minis come with Wifi-N, while the older models come with G/B.
A used Mini will usually lack the Apple warranty.
Minis are so handy that you have to ask yourself, why is someone getting rid of it? My somewhat cynical answer is that many Minis being sold on the used market are being gotten rid of because of some lurking problem issue that the owner hasn't been able to resolve.
If you must buy an older model, consider an Apple refurbished Mini, which comes with full warranty and current software.

  • Battery life suddenly bad while idle at 80%

    Hey guys,
I have a macbook pro that I got about a month or two ago and the battery life has been great until about two days ago, I used to see a full charge carry for 5-6 hours now it's 2 hours if i'm lucky, as far as I know the only thing that has changed is installing apple updates which I doubt would cause my battery life to tank suddenly. My running conditions haven't changed, i've usually got the backlight low with dim keyboard light, wi-fi on and not running anything intensive as you can see below, just a code editor and some communication programs.

  • Battery life suddenly cut in half

just yesterday, during my first class, i noticed that i only had about 2 hours left on my battery-- this was just about 15 minutes after unplugging my fully charged macbook. the same thing happened today...i don't know what's going on, i used to get around 4 hours with it. i haven't changed any habits-- i dim the screen as much as possible, etc.
i'm calibrating the battery right now...will that work or is something else wrong?

    Hi,
Macbook battery life arouse lot of feedback. My experience is after re-calibration the total capcity of battery losts at least 100mAh. But if just connect to internet via airport, still I can manage to use it with over 3hrs. But when I run photoshops or bigger size file, the time shown on menu bar dropped tremendously to 1:50hr somethg from 3:03hr. But this battery seems to last quite good at last few %. My experiences on powerbook G4 1G, with 1.25G DDR ram, when battery drops to 10% or 10 minutes, the Powerbook will go to sleep soon. But for Macbook, when the indicator shows 0:09 hr remained, if using for internet it can still last for more than 15minutes. I also asked Apple HK technician about the battery drop problem, they said this is just rough estimation, sometimes not accurate, and it is normal that battery sometimes can't charged back 100% full unless after recalibration. If ur cases after full charge, check if ur battery is 100% or below 90% uisng coconut, Apple said if under warranty the battery drop below 90% for full charge, u can replace the battery in Apple repair center. This is the case in HK , I am not sure the practise in ur country.

  • Lumia 920 battery life suddenly changed

Hi, everyone. I am a newbie here. I had my red 920 since 11/9 and it has been great until this Tuesday. Previously the battery was great and after full charge it usually showed battery life 1day or even longer. This Tuesday I used camera a lot. The handset did get warmer because of flash and focus assist lamp. After that night the battery darin rate became really fast. After one overnight charge 100% battery only shows 9hours and drain rate was like 10% per hour. Any one has suggestions why this occured suddently? Do I need to reset the phone to factory?
    Thanks a lot

    Hi
I had similar issue I went to Microsoft store, they didn't understand the problem.
they said background tasks, WiFi,location service etc. Everything was offline.
The issue started after December patch update.
The system keeps dropping signal very often and it tries to reconnect to 4G and LTE making battery drain, This is as per the Tech at Microsoft store...
Use wall charger for 3-4 hours. That helps. Also let the battery drain to less than 10% and charge , Turn of all your background tasks that helps...
No word from Nokia yet., Wireless charger doesn't work well.
Also when i tried logging in from Lumia 920 to post this message, the popup login on the sign in doesnt work. Also when you post the scrolling doesnt work really well like on the desktop. Not sure if its the site issue or IE10 issue
The Spell check for Lumia is still not fixed. it suggested Aluminia... can some mod from Nokia put in a request to fix this ?

  • Curiosity of battery life with WiFi off

Has anyone tried this? I would imagine someone would get a little more than ten hours with wifi off.

Anyone have the patience to use their iPad for 10+ hours without going online? Me neither . Using my MBP to get best battery life, I sometimes turn off BlueTooth and WiFi, and that gives a very small lift - no more than 30-40 minutes so I'd guess, and it is only a WAG, that the difference between using WiFi and BT or not using them both would be perhaps an extra hour on the iPad.

  • Battery life suddenly terrible, apple care expired in September but still 10 months on my contract?

    Hi there,
I'm wondering if there is anything that Apple can do for my iPhone 6? I first got it in September 2012 (2 years and a bit ago) and I purchased apple care. I had previously replaced the battery because it did the same thing. The battery life depletes in less than a couple hours even if it is fully charged, and if I am outside in the cold, the phone will shut off even if there is 50% or 40% of the battery life remaining.
Please let me know if there is anything. I know that the laws in Quebec are different because we have legal warranty here which means that even without Apple Care I should be able to get help for this.
Please let me know if you have any advice or help as to what I should do!

Since I am from the US, I cannot comment on Canadian laws. If you have an issue with Canadian law and Apple, then I suggest you address that with the Apple store. What I was saying was if you let someone other than Apple open the device, then it voids warranty and post-warranty support. If Apple made the replacement, then discuss it with them.
Your statement to the other poster about phone support; unless you purchase Apple Care Plus, complementary phone support for the iPhone is only 90 days, whereas the warranty is 1 year. Apple Care Plus extends both to 2 years. Those are the Apple standards, but could differ in your country. To understand that, you would need to look up the warranty info for your country. You can find that at http://www.apple.com/legal/

  • Battery life significant drop

So Running a brand new macbook (bought over christmas break)
I was getting at least 4hrs of battery life when off the charger, but recently as soon as its off the adapter I only get max 2hrs of life. i recently calibrated it based off the apple instructions but it seems to get me less life than before

Reset your SMC by shutting down, unplugging the magsafe, taking out the battery, and holding down the power button for five seconds.
Are you sure it is actually lasting two hours or is it just what the indicator says? That indicator is based on the CPU usage at that moment so it may be limited by what you are doing at that second. Are your fans running more than usual? Check Activity monitor and sort "All Processes" by CPU to find out if something is taking up a lot of CPU power. That can easily decrease your battery life. Some general tips are to decrease the brightness on the monitor backlight (or let the ambient light sensor do its work by keeping the brightness at least one tick below the maximum), turning off bluetooth if not being used, same with IR (security prefs), and wifi if not in use.
Go to Apple System Profiler (Apple Menu-About This Mac-More Info-Power) and copy/paste the battery info.
