Battery life suddenly terrible, apple care expired in September but still 10 months on my contract?

Hi there,
I'm wondering if there is anything that Apple can do for my iPhone 6? I first got it in September 2012 (2 years and a bit ago) and I purchased apple care. I had previously replaced the battery because it did the same thing. The battery life depletes in less than a couple hours even if it is fully charged, and if I am outside in the cold, the phone will shut off even if there is 50% or 40% of the battery life remaining.
Please let me know if there is anything. I know that the laws in Quebec are different because we have legal warranty here which means that even without Apple Care I should be able to get help for this.
Please let me know if you have any advice or help as to what I should do!

Since I am from the US, I cannot comment on Canadian laws. If you have an issue with Canadian law and Apple, then I suggest you address that with the Apple store. What I was saying was if you let someone other than Apple open the device, then it voids warranty and post-warranty support. If Apple made the replacement, then discuss it with them.
Your statement to the other poster about phone support; unless you purchase Apple Care Plus, complementary phone support for the iPhone is only 90 days, whereas the warranty is 1 year. Apple Care Plus extends both to 2 years. Those are the Apple standards, but could differ in your country. To understand that, you would need to look up the warranty info for your country. You can find that at http://www.apple.com/legal/

  • Battery life suddenly terrible on iPhone 4

I've been having my iPhone 4 for about a year and a half now and never had any issues with the battery life. But yesterday, the battery life suddenly decreased exponentially. I typically do a "hard reset" on my phone every few days because it tends to get slow or buggy after a while.
So yesterday after a hard reset, my battery went from 100% to just over 80% in about 15 minutes of music playback on the iPod/Music app — no streaming from the Web and no other apps open. The battery percentage continued tanking throughout the day even though I was only occasionally sending texts and never really using any data. I pulled it from my pocket to check the time and noticed it was dead, only about four hours after I'd completely charged it to 100%.
The battery life has never been close to this bad, and the only thing I think could have had any effect on it was the hard reset I did yesterday afternoon. I haven't recently updated the software or installed any new apps. The strange thing is that the battery life seems to go by even faster when the phone's idle. Looking through Facebook posts or playing games don't drain it as much it just sitting on my desk. Any idea what might work? Thanks.

I've encountered the exact same.  I now keep the phone plugged/tethered to the computer all day to conserve battery live.  My usage is the same but I'm wondering if the notifications are to blame for the shortened life.  Withoout plugging the phone in the battery may not make the entire day.

  • Battery Life suddenly reduced

Hi. Beginning a little over a week ago my battery life suddenly reduced by about half. My iPhone is warmer now, even when it's not in use. It wasn't coincident with anything I noticed, e.g. no new iOS release, no change in application use. I've reviewed my Location Services, no unexpected grey GPS symbols (and no purple of course). Does anyone have any ideas as to what might cause this?

Lots of people have lots of ideas:

No, sorry. it won't work with the 2007 MBP. You can replace the optical drive yourself - just go shopping at OWC.

my apple care expire tomorrow, if were to purchase  the new warranty , am able to transfer thatto my new iphone

If you've already had extended Applecare, you can't extend it again.  If you buy Applecare online from Apple, you can purchase and register it in one fell swoop - there's no need to transfer anything.

  • Need to have screen checked before Apple Care expires -  have I voided it?

There is some imperfection on my iMac screen - looks like the screen is dirty, but it seems to be under the glass or something.
Anyway, want to have it looked at before Apple Care Expires in october. My question: if I've upgraded RAM myself, did I void the Apple Care?

+My question: if I've upgraded RAM myself, did I void the Apple Care?+
No you haven't - RAM is a user installable part on iMacs. If you've kept the original RAM, you could pop that back in if necessary, but since the problem is with the screen, it should not have anything to do with the RAM.
I'd make an appointment with a Genius Bar nearby to have the screen checked.

  • Battery life suddenly bad while idle at 80%

    Hey guys,
I have a macbook pro that I got about a month or two ago and the battery life has been great until about two days ago, I used to see a full charge carry for 5-6 hours now it's 2 hours if i'm lucky, as far as I know the only thing that has changed is installing apple updates which I doubt would cause my battery life to tank suddenly. My running conditions haven't changed, i've usually got the backlight low with dim keyboard light, wi-fi on and not running anything intensive as you can see below, just a code editor and some communication programs.
here's sample output from running top in a terminal

Does anyone have any insight or tools I can use to diagnose this further?
    Thanks!

I tried that last night to no avail, but I found the answer. The dock had been running at 100% after the upgrade (don't know why it didn't show up in top, but showed up in activity monitor) so I followed this thread ( https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3138432?start=0&tstart=0 ) and now I'm back to expected battery life

  • I just got a brand new 13" Macbook pro with Lion and the battery life is terrible. i just got a brand new macbook pro 13in a few weeks ago and everything is fine except the battery life is terrible!

i have seen many other threads about this, but i just want to know if anyone has found a fix that actually works? or do i just need to wait for apple to send a fix in their next update?

Suppose you elaborate on what you are doing with the MBP that makes the battery life terrible.

  • My battery life is terrible

My MacBook Pro is almost worthless for battery life.
Correction. I have TWO MacBook Pros, both of which are worthless for battery life.
All day they are charged and the rare time I go to use them without being charged, they last at the absolute most 1 hour. If I am lucky and don't do anything on the computer, maybe 1 hour and a half.
Both laptops are 15" MacBook Pros, running Leopard OSX, 2.33 Core 2 Duo, 2bg RAM. All I'm generally doing is surfing the internet, writing e-mails. I try to keep the screen brightness low enough until I feel I'm straining my eyes.
I have tried running both batteries completely out until charging them again, but I see no difference in battery life. I have read they are supposed to last upwards of 3 hours. This simply is NOT possible for me.
    What can I do?

Go to the Power tab in System Profiler and get the data for your battery. For example.
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 3769
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 4556
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 200
    Battery health: Good
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): -1788
    Voltage (mV): 11563
If the Full charge capacity is 4400 (80% of 5500) or more and the Cycle count is less than 300, then your battery is within spec. If the Full charge capacity is less than 4400 and the Cycle count is less than 300, your battery is out of spec and you should contact AppleCare or visit an Apple repair center. If the cycle count is over 300, it's probably time to consider buying a new battery.
Even when new, I never got more than 2:45 out of my batteries (I am on the 4th battery).

  • What will happen when my Apple Care expire? Can I get another one?

I just go my MBP 17" 6 months ago and I already had some quiet serious issue with that machine (motherboard replacement). I have also Apple Care. I wish to keep this machine as long as it is possible (5 years or so) and my question is can I buy another 2 or 3 years of Apple Care when the current one will expire? I don't want to be left alone, without any coverage and paying hefty prices for reparations. What are your suggestions guys?
    Thanks for any answers.

AppleCare is a one-time extension of your warranty.  You cannot extend your warranty beyond your initial AppleCare term through Apple.  You may be able to find third party vendors to provide extended coverage.

  • Battery life suddenly cut in half

just yesterday, during my first class, i noticed that i only had about 2 hours left on my battery-- this was just about 15 minutes after unplugging my fully charged macbook. the same thing happened today...i don't know what's going on, i used to get around 4 hours with it. i haven't changed any habits-- i dim the screen as much as possible, etc.
i'm calibrating the battery right now...will that work or is something else wrong?

    Hi,
Macbook battery life arouse lot of feedback. My experience is after re-calibration the total capcity of battery losts at least 100mAh. But if just connect to internet via airport, still I can manage to use it with over 3hrs. But when I run photoshops or bigger size file, the time shown on menu bar dropped tremendously to 1:50hr somethg from 3:03hr. But this battery seems to last quite good at last few %. My experiences on powerbook G4 1G, with 1.25G DDR ram, when battery drops to 10% or 10 minutes, the Powerbook will go to sleep soon. But for Macbook, when the indicator shows 0:09 hr remained, if using for internet it can still last for more than 15minutes. I also asked Apple HK technician about the battery drop problem, they said this is just rough estimation, sometimes not accurate, and it is normal that battery sometimes can't charged back 100% full unless after recalibration. If ur cases after full charge, check if ur battery is 100% or below 90% uisng coconut, Apple said if under warranty the battery drop below 90% for full charge, u can replace the battery in Apple repair center. This is the case in HK , I am not sure the practise in ur country.

  • Battery Life really terrible on MacBook Pro...

I have a MacBook Pro 17 inch and it has only 101 cycles on battery, yet it only lasts for about 2 1/2 hours max when fully charged.  The computer is 1 1/2 years old and I just use it for personal use...which really isn't that much.  Any thoughts? Thanks

My Macbook Pro is 4 years old and I still get approximately 5 hrs of battery life under normal usage with no more than 2 applications open at a time.  Playing downloaded games or games played directly from a cd , I get around 4 - 4 1/2 hours.  I faithfully calibrate my battery every other month per my user manual schedule.
I never watch movies while using my battery.

  • Anybody have experience of service after guarantee/Apple care expired.

I am plaining to get a MacBook Pro, but what afraid me is that if the Apple care/guarantee has expired, as I have an experience with my iPhone of being refereed to a third party service center. That was not a good experience one, as they didn't do a proper job to my iPhone.

Yes! i have had my screen replaced 3 times, just before the warranty ran out,and i knew that it would happen again, (even has i am typing this out its happening again) I was given no choice but to buy this Apple Care Plan. My question is what happens after 3yrs. In my country England you just keep on paying the insurance every year. If you do not have any insurance, Say, on a washing machine you call the guys out to fix it, they tell you the price before they begin. You are better off buying a new washer, because of the price they charge. I know for definate after 3yrs thats it,and say if you had to get your screen replaced it would cost you £400 plus carriage, and that comes to about £500. You might as well buy a new computer. Unless anybody can come up with a better answer to this i would love to know.

  • New battery...does apple care cover?

Ok So my battery is running at 38% cap
    after 208 charges
    and is 16 months old.
    Is that average?
Can I get a new battery through my Apple Care warrenty?
    -Jeff in NYC

    Hi,
I'm having the same problem with my battery, and from what i've read, it seems our only option is to buy a new one. You should still try to call them, they might exchange it for some specific reasons, which I'm sure they'll tell you about.
    Good luck,

  • Apple Care Expiring

My Apple Care will expire next June. I like how I can call them if I have a really tricky problem and they can do remote screen help.
Is Geek Squad my only alternative?

Do as I did when I was close to extended AppleCare running out.
Forget Best Buy and the Geek Squad. They are useless and are NOT Apple product repair specialists.
A few weeks before the warranty ends, bring your Mac into an Apple Store or Apple authorised service/repair center and have them do a complete diagnosis if your iMac, have them clean out any dust and dirt inside and generally have them do every test and inspection possible, so if they find anything, it will get repaired/replaced at no cost before AppleCare's time runs out.
