Battery Life... why it's really weak power

Hi,
The battery life of my iPhone 3G doesn't allow me to get it work for a all business day (it's work just about 8 hours).
I read a lot of post about this problem and have few comments about them:
- some tells it's push which drain the battery: I didn't notice the same on Iphone V1 even when push is on...
Note: Even if push is a problem for battery life, i don't understand why? Balckberry have push mail, calendard, contact and are working all the day...
- some tells it's 3G; but i have a similar issue about battery life even when i turn 3G off...
Note: A lot of newspaper talked about the Iphone 3G autonomy and tell that battery life of iPhone 3g is better than other 3G device...
In my point of view there is a really big issue concerning the battery; I can't keep a phone which switch off during my day...

Its not only iPhones but also iPod touch that ***** up juice... battery life has gone down significantly with the 2.0 software.
Hopefully there will be a fix soon:):)
It would be pointless buying the iPhone 3G with all these features switched off.
But if some are having these issues until there is a fix then it's probably good advice.
However mine seems OK with all these features switched on.
I top up mine each evening and keeps me going on a day to day basis.

I have a year old Mac Book Pro Retina 13' and the battery runs out way too fast and the life is not as much as it was a few days ago. As well it started 'breathing' heavily and heating up very fast and very heated. What should I do? What has happened to my computer?

  • IPhone 4 battery life, Why does it die so fast and what can I do?

I have had an iPhone 4 for a little over two years now and feel like recently, my battery is dying so fast.
When I go out for the day it always dies before I get home, what I think it is, could be that I take a lot of pictures and use many picture apps, but I don' think that it has always been this bad. NO matter what I do, when I go out to shoot at the park, it dies within a few hours. I hardly use it for other things besides that and it still dies. Yesterday when I left the house at 12, and came home at 5, it was dead.
I did all of the things I read about that I need to do, like closing the apps, etc.
I don't get it, is it me, or the battery being old or what? Should I buy a portable charger or do I need a new phone?
I have a question about charging the battery as well. A coworker of mine told me that you need to let your battery die out every time, and then charge it, but I never do that. Is that neccessary to save the battery?
    Thank you.
(*not sure what the difference is between CDMA and GSM? sorry)

Thank you, I am going the Apple store today for a genius appointment. L
ast night I let it die, and charged it to 100%, then I unplugged it and went to sleep. at 530am it was at 98% - I used it quite a lot for texting, and taking and editing pictures and use of the internet. it just died at 1:30pm, so it lasted exactly 8 hours.
    Thanks again.

  • IPhone 5s battery life issues

    hi guys
I feel like there is a problem with my iphone 5s. the battery life is really bad compared to my last iphone 5. I used to be able to charge my phone at the end of the day and would till have 40% or 50% left. now with this new iphone, it reaches down to 10% or simply dies by the time I  get home at 6pm. I have turned off everything and i have searched google for all sorts of turn off tweaks so i could get the maximum battery life, but its still really awful. i listen to music for about 20 mins while on the underground train and later i might or might not get a text message or two and that is about it; the phone still yet loses all of its battery life while doing absolutely nothing. today i unplugged it from the charger and it suddenly went down to 99% right in front of my eyes.
i am going to the apple store on Tuesday to ask them if they could check it out. so my question is;  have i missed something here or is everyone's phones are as such but not even one person is talking about it or they just don't care or embarrassed to talk about it, or what ????
btw my last iphone and this one are both 64GB black.

I have had the 5s for a week now, and I am having the same issue. I have restored the phone three times now, twice through iCloud backup and once through iTunes. I have shut down all functions of the phone as suggested, which is stupid, that's the whole point of having the iPhone, and anytime I do anything with the phone, the battery drains 5 - 10%, and its quick things like, checking email, then quickly closing that app, sending a couple text messages, and listening to one voice mail and I am down to 50 %. Not sure if it is ios7 or a 5s issue, all I know is last week I had a iPhone 4 that I had everything turned on all the time, I checked email constantly, text frequently, made calls and used the Internet and easily went three days without concern. Now I'm scared to check the time for fear of draining battery on the new phone. I also had the  battery completely drain  twice now and then charged it to 100%, and that has not helped either.  I was much better off with my iphone 4 that I could at least use, and wish I had not traded it in at time of purchase. No point in having a phone that I have to disable all functionality and try not to use unless I know I am going to be near a outlet. So disappointed!!!!  First time I have ever been mad enough to make a comment on a forum!

  • Wow, not great battery life

So I'm coming from a 2007 MBP 17" Hi-Res. I got 4 hours of battery life out of that machine. I am working on this MBP 2008 15", and while running with the "higher" video (which should match that of the 17" MBP I was using), I'm getting 2.5 hours of battery. Max.
That is a HUGE difference. Good lord. I would think being smaller, it would be more efficient.

Apple doesn't make the batteries. Most likely they come from Sony. There's plenty of research in battery technology, but you wouldn't be willing to pay what that technology would currently cost. If they provided a bigger battery the computer would weigh more, and then you'd be complaining that it isn't portable enough (not necessarily you personally.)
There's a tradeoff between weight, size, and power. Your 17" model weighs 6.8 pounds. Your new one weighs 5.5 pounds. Where would that big battery on your old computer go? The new one is thinner, stronger, has two GPUs, a faster (or newer) processor, user-replaceable hard drive and memory, thin and bright screen. And here you are complaining about battery life. Use some more aggressive power features, and no doubt you can squeeze 3.5 hours out of it. Or, you could just lug that 17" battleship around with you. After all it's only 1.3 pounds heavier. I won't mention the other missing features. Or depending upon your particular usage you could plug in the AC adaptor. I rarely use the battery on any of my laptops.

  • Wow wireless headset battery life

so my battery life has massively degraded after having this unit since it first came out
i started the charge last night after our raid, didn't pull off charge until raid this afternoon and the battery died after 2 hrs.
yesterday i had the same situation and just thought i didnt have it charged all the way.
any ideas whats going on here? I paid extra for the wireless for a reason, but it seems im already tethered to a wire after such a short time.

  • T430s Windows 8 battery life

    Hello,
I have new Lenovo laptop, type T430s (2353-2QV). I was realized to try Windows 8 and reinstalled it using lenovo w8 drivers. But something is wrong with battery life. It is very weak. I was hope that I can use my laptop on battery more than 4 hours, but depens on usage, I can use it maximum for about 3 hours. And that is not right, from my point of view. I do not have informatiom how much time is battery life on W7, but I think it is much better.
Please, can anybody  tell me if it is right or not and what I can do with it? I welcome the response not only from users with same type of laptop.
    Thank you in advance.
    Peter

    Hello dissss,
    thank you for your reply.
I have the six cell battery. After one week of using my laptop on W8 I have to say that normally I can work about 3 hours on battery, which is weak for this professional laptop.

  • Short battery life

    hello
I have arch with gnome on my Toshiba laptop and i have very short battery life.
    it ends after about 40min.
it seems to be problem in the system because when i open the computer it told me it have about 2hours and i put it on friend's laptop with vista and it told me i have 92% and 1:10hours left so i think there is(are) any or some process(es) that waste power and so short the battery life.
how can i manage the power consumption and by that to maximize battery life?
    10x anyway
    ariel

For starters, dim your display backlight.  Set the system up to make it happen automatically.  Have the shut the backlight off after more than a few minutes of inactivity.
Throttle your processor(s).  Set up cpufreq and configure it to use an aggressive governor while operating on batteries.  On laptops, you should also enable a governor such as "On demand" to help keep the system cool even when running on AC.
Don't do things that draw power.  Try not to use the optical drive.  If you want to watch movies, rip them to the hard disk while on AC, watch them from disk while on batteries, and delete them when you are done.
Look into the power management of your hard drive.  You might look at allowing it to spin down when inactive, but I find this to not work real well under Linux.  They tend to spin up and down a lot, negating the power savings.
See if you can shut things down.  Wireless transmitters use a fair amount of power.  So do the receivers while they are doing correlation (trying to synchronize to the chipping a spread spectrum channel).  If you are not using wireless, shut it off.  Look into whether your laptop can shut off other systems it is not using.
Minimize USB devices.  They draw power from the system -- especially ipods and cellphones which charge their batteries from their host.
Laptop manufacturers spend a great amount of effort customizing certain operating systems from the American Pacific Northwest to maximize the battery performance of their systems.  It can be expected that Linux require a little effort to optimize for power management as well.

  • Is Iphone5 really weak in terms of battery life?

Is Iphone5 really weak in terms of battery life?

Review the topics in this forum and you can see for yourself what problems people are coming here with. Keep in mind that judging a phone by the posts in a support forum gives you a very skewed view. Most people who bought the iPhone 5 are not having problems with it and they are not dropping into the forums to say "Hi, guys! Phone works great!" The people who aren't having battery issues aren't posting here. Keep that in mind as you read through the forums.

  • My MacBook Pro is really hot and the fan is on constantly. It didn't use to do this, does anyone know why this is happening? I have a very short battery life, so I have to keep it plugged in probably more than I should.

Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.

  • I have had my iPhone 4s for a few months and the battery life was really good. Then around the same time I updated to ISO6 and I dropped it on the floor and since the battery life has been poor lasting only a few hours. Does anyone know why this is?

I don't know why the battery life has just become so poor. I can listen to 1 song and lose 1/2% battery life. I had all the settings the same as before updating to ISO6 and now it just goes. I did drop it around the same time but I have a stong case so I don't see how this should effect it. If anyone knows how to fix it would be a great help because I used to love iPod but I am very dissapointed.

Internal damage from fall or loose connector. Take it to
    Apple to be checked.

  • Why is apple not paying heed to pages of complaints about Battery life in OS X Mavericks?

    The header says it all:
I have a MBA, Mid-2013 Model with the fourth Gen- i5 Processor, with the pre-installed software, I was getting around 10 hours with my usage, only non native apps were Microsoft Office for Mac and Google Chrome. Now I have been working the same way since I upgraded to Mavericks the day it was released and since then I notice the following and several users are noticing the same.
    1. I have not seen battery draining in sleep mode with the previous install of the OS X? Why is it happenning to this version?
    2. There were no issues with Chrome with Mountain Lion, why do I have to remove chrome and use Safari with the latest install, even doing so with all it's power saving features, I am not not able to match the battery life I got with the former OS.
    3. I see that none of these complaints happenned when users installed the Golden Beta? why with the retail version???
I have done the resets and all recommended by the forums, I see a better number in the time remaining - but the drain is pretty much the same, I don't see the logic of a PRAM Reset or a SMC reset is going to change OS performance.
I get about  7 hours now, which is way off the estimate of 15 hours? Is apple on some sort of denial? Well, i can see paid articles going on about the extended battery life, but none really pointing towards pages of users complaining about this?
Is there a magic wand to sort this out? Any help insight appreciated, or atleast an acknowledgement that Apple's team is working on a patch/upgrade, roll back with some sort of time line?
( I am a mac user for the last 10 years, so this is not a critique, a genuine concern combined with disappointment for the first time with OS X Claims)

Thanks for the reply. My battery was just recently calibrated and was working fine until yesterday, so I'm pretty sure that is not the case.
I also have been reading that installing Adobe Photoshop might also be the problem, which I also did Wednesday night, though looking at the activity monitor, there are no processes that would be overrunning.
Anyone else have an issue similar to this?

  • Bootcamp Windows battery life - USB power problem?

    Hi,
While the battery life on my MBP is ok under Windows (3 hours), it's not great when compared to booting into OSX where I get at least 30% more. It's easy (and right) to blame Windows inefficiencies when running XP or Vista, MS have massively improved energy performance under Windows 7. Looking into this a bit, I've found there is now a new tool to help investigate energy problems:
    POWERCFG /ENERGY
The generated power report shows that I have five cases of "USB Device not Entering Suspend". In otherwords (even though I don't have any devices plugged in) the USB components are burning at full power and not allowing Windows to suspend them to save energy. This may well explain why I'm not getting the battery life I could be, and it's really not Windows fault.
    Does anyone else see this? I'm on MBP5.5 w/ Win7 Pro x64.
Hopefully a future Bootcamp will enable full power management support..
    Cheers,
    Chris.

    Hello,
the core of the problem is the quality of the Boot Camp drivers.
The boot camp drivers allow very limited power management, therefore there is no real possibility to run Vista or WindowsXP without heavily using battery resources.
I don't think there will be any improvements in the future as Apple in not really committed to deliver better drivers (the present BootCamp power management drivers have remained virtually unchanged since BootCamp 1.2 beta, March 2007).
Just have a look at the threads about BootCamp especially about the problems that are plaguing the new MacBook Pro (mid 2009) i.e. poor sound quality and no microphone in Windows.
    Cheers
    Luca

  • Power usage when using line out dock /poor battery life

    Hi,
Does using a line out dock use more battery power than using the headphone jack?
I'm asking because in real life usage I am only getting about 6 hours of play time from my 4GB Nano. For me real life usage is maybe 20-30 minutes of use at a time while commuting to and from work or going for walks. Much of that play time is spent using a line out dock connection in my car. I have an Aux port in my car and the sound from the headphone jack is horrible. With the line out dock it's great.
I did run the Apple suggested battery test and when I leave my unit on and don't touch it at all I get about 13-13.5 hours of play time. So I'm trying to understand why that drops in half when I use the Nano the way I use it. Was wondering if using the line out dock is part of that. I do not have the Equalizer on, I use the Hold switch when I'm not using the Nano and am carrying it around in a pocket or in my purse, and I have the backlight set to 5 seconds. I don't use any of the extra features. I just play music. All of my music should be in AAC format. It's music I either purchased and downloaded from ITunes or music I imported from my own CD's using the default ITunes settings.

I too share your frustration. I'm on my fifth iPad as an owner, and really like them, but Apple made a huge mistake with the Air 2 by making it thinner and putting a smaller battery in it. The iPad Air was wonderfully thin and didn't need slimming down. I get noticeably worse battery life on my iPad Air 2 compared to my first iPad Air. My Air had epic, brag-worthy battery life. My Air 2 has cringe-worthy battery life. Apple's product designers need to get their priorities straight: thin, when it compromises the user experience, is TOO THIN.
