Battery life with mountain lion 10 8 1.. Still awful

After my update from version 10.8 to 10.8.1 , batter life has NOT improved as many have speculated.
I ran the following two tests on a MBP ( mid 2009) 10.8 1 after installing....
-Time to discharge from 100% to 50% remaing - 1h 54 m.
-Time to re-charge to 100% - 2 hr 11 m
I went back and compared these with data gather from ver. 10.8.0. The results were litterally seconds apart. So SOMEWHERE, we've lost about 3HOURS !From  OS/x 8 and more from SL 7.6.8 ... ***!!!
What's up with that ? A loss OS 10.8.1 of 3-ish hours?? That's a long time with a full day on campus...
Help !!!

Sorry for the late in responding.
In fact, just today, I sent a note to my contact at Apple informing him that 10.8.2 had not solved my battery problem.
Even after two discharge, charge, cycles, full charge is indicated at 97%, with 1h:04m time available (new 9 mos ago was on the order of 5h.)
In addition, I now have a persistent "service battery" warning flag.
When I hear more from apple, or if I replace the battery, I will report back here.

  • Extremely short battery life with Mountain Lion?

I recently installed Mac OS X Mountain Lion on my 2009 Unibody MacBook and the battery has been noticably shorter than before on 10.6. Will there be an update to fix this? I don't have any other apps running except Safari. Does anyone know of a way to fix this?

    Nobody is ignoring you boovish.
It's just maybe this question has been asked a lot. Have you thoroughly looked through the More Like This box on the right?
    That should help you out.

Any OS version of 10.8.4 or later has all features that are not OS depended. The plugins are one example. You probably haven't updated all versions of Logic Pro X to the latest one.

  • Battery life in mountain lion

My MacBook Pro battery drains faster now with Mountain Lion than Snow Leopard. I have the last update (10.8.2), but it doesn't get better. What can I do?

See this discussion - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4135250?tstart=0 - many people have had the same problem. One 'solution' that cropped up this morning was to install the combo update of 10.8.2. The poster had updated through Software Update via the App Store with no joy in the battery life, but then downloaded the combo update and battery life was back to normal.
I don't know that this will work for everyone - I just monitor that thread occasionally and saw that post this morning.

  • Battery Life ***** on Mountain Lion!

About a week ago I took my new mid 2012 13' macbok to get checked out. The reason for is because the battery was not holding up like I read in the specs. At this time my macbook pro was running Lion 10.7. I upgraded still samething nothing changed until I took my macbook in like I meantion. At the time I took it in I was running Mountain Lion already. So they  gave me a new battery everything seem well until a week later I monitor my battery health very closely, so I seen it was dropping quick again. When i got the battery it was in great health and still is but it was at 106% overall health n a week later it was at 95%. I am concerned about what is going on especially with only 6 cycles? Why is this hapenning when I do what is told to do to keep they cells active and have a happy battery. Apple plus look into this battery problem. How many are experiencing the samething?

from experience - when I first got my new Macbook, charge capacity is at 5700 mAh.....after using it for a few months now, my charge capacity has dropped to 5300mAh then back up to 5600mAh and today at 5536mAh...it changes daily and has not affected on how long my battery would last - I'm still getting 5+ hours when I'm doing some online work.  6 hours when just browsing the web.
there is nothing wrong with your battery.  battery life does decrease when Mountain Lion is installed but that is more software issue than hardware.
you're under warranty and apple was nice enough to replace your battery.....
why not use your Macbook normally and not worry too much about it if you're gettng 5+ hours in a single charge.  Again, you're still under warranty - if things go bad - just get it diagnosed and replaced.
    good luck

  • Poor battery life after Mountain Lion update

I updated OS on my 2011 13" MacBook air from "Lion" to "Mountain Lion."
My laptop used to last 5-7 hours with a single full charge.  After installing Mountain Lion, I can't even last 3 hours.
I noticed that other people are experiencing the same problem but I can't seem to find a solution.
    Any suggestions?

There's a huge thread about battery life here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4135250?start=0&tstart=0 .  Hopefully it will be fully addressed in 10.8.2.

  • How to extend battery life in Mountain Lion?

I have an Macbook 5,2 and recently I update Mac OS X from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion (10.8.3 12D58). Current main problem is my battery life reduced from 5 hours to 1:58:00. This is crazy. Are there some applications runs on the back ground? How to uninstall useless applications and extend battery life? Looking forward to get help from this forum.

  • Has anybody figured out how to fix the battery consumption with mountain lion (using a MBP 13")?

I upgraded to Mountain Lion, and yes despite all of the warnings posted in the App Store reviews about the battery life being cut in half, I upgraded my MBP anyway. Chalk this one up to the Black Cloud of "I Told You SO!" My MBP could hold a charge for almost 6.5 hours. Now I'm luck if I can get 3, but in most cases I may get 2.5 hours if I'm conservative.
Has anyone figure out how to fix this battery problem? Even now after having it unplugged for almost 2 hours...I'm getting the "You are now running on reserve battery power" message. What a freaking joke!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Open /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor.  Click %CPU until the triangle points down beside it.  Make sure it says All Processes in the upper right.  Check for applications taking up lots of CPU time.

  • Battery Issues with Mountain Lion

I'm sure I'm not alone here.
Ok, first, a little bit about my machine: mid-2011 MBP, 13", 2.3 GHz Core i5, 4GB of RAM.
Ever since upgrading to ML from Lion, the battery life has decreased exponentially, from 7 hours to 4. The battery capacity dropped at least 2% since the upgrade.
The other problem I have is the ocassional sluggishness that comes with waking up the machine.
So, if you're having similar issues, are you waiting for Apple to fix it with an OTA update or are you doing something about yourself?

10.8 has decreased the battery life. It will be fixed in an update. http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html

UPDATE: I am going on day 3 and have yet to receive my code! Seriosuly... a NUMBER that they send via email. DAY 3??? Because it take this long to "process"??? You have got to be "F'ING" Kindding me! Customer service is key and Apple USE...USE!.. to be king. I actually waited on the phone for 25 minute just to be told I had to wait for GOD KNOWS WHEN (ie. maybe 3 days) for the order to be processed.

  • Re: Battery life in mountain lion

ACTUALLY, the computer is supposed to take a nap during the battery test - otherwise it's not fair.
So after 3 hours, put it to sleep for 3 hours while continuing to count. Then continue with the monitor off. Thus, you arrive at the 'up to 7 hours' number.
If still not 7 hours - then it must be FLASH PLAYER's fault.

    It has been noted, yes!

  • Decreased battery life on mountain lion

Is there an estimated timeline for when the ML battery drain issue will be fixed?  I used to get about 5 hours on a charge, and post-ML install, I am now getting 90 minutes max with just word/notes/ical running.   I was on a plane and needed to get some work done, but wasn't able to work for more than an hour on a full charge.  And the battery is draining significantly in sleep mode.   It is down about 40% after being unplugged overnight.   This is a serious issue, and impacts my ability to work.   I am starting to feel like I have a PC!!  (And the woman next to me on the plane who was on a PC got an entire flight of battery charge.  Talk about injury on insult!)

    Give it 1-2 months.
Until then have you tried this?

    Hello royalaqua,
I do think you should ask yourself if upgrading to Lion is the right course to take.
Snow Leopard is an excellent OS and Lion has literally been frozen out after barely a year.   Remember too that some of your apps may not work with Lion (those that have Rosetta, for example) so that could mean more new purchases.   Plus you may need to uprate your RAM too.

  • Where is low battery warning in Mountain Lion?

Lion used to give low battery power alerts which I do not find after Mountain lion upgrade. Is it still there or...???

This helped meRe: Where is low battery warning in Mountain Lion?

It kicks in at 3% on my 2011 MBA, I have seen reports that the % at which it appears can vary quite a lot, from 16% to 3%.
Speculation would be it depends on the fitnesss of the battery?

My rMBP's battery had fallen to 3% before I noticed it, and I never saw any popup warning.  I was not running anything fullscreen (just firefox covering part of the screen).
Running your battery down to these very low charge levels will shorten its life, try to avoid discharging to less than 40%, try to stay on AC power as much as you can (all the time is better than your current useage profile) and only let it discharge when there is no other choice.
