Battery Life Worse Now After iOS 6.1 Update on iPhone 5

Bought & using a new iPhone 5 since late December. Updated last night on the phone itself to 6.1 iOS. Now I am finding that the battery is draining considerably faster than before. I have seen the battery meter actually go down 1% at a time from when I unlock the screen to even swipe a couple of pages of apps and send one or two texts.
I did the expected battery-saving techniques of lowering the brightness, turning off the LTE and iCloud and Location Services. Manually push data for email was set always for me. But still battery dropping like a hot potato.
Any tips and/or ideas? I read on another thread about resetting the phone. Would that work? Needless to say I am aggravated and disappointed as this is my first new and current smartphone in over 5 years. And now this is all happening. Ugh!

The problem is more than likely being cause by corruption that occured during the iOS install or in the backup that was used to restore the phone after the update.
Standard troubleshooting is:
Re-boot the phone
Restore the phone from your backup
Restore the phone as a new device.
One of the 3 should fix the problem.

After iOS 8.3 update, my iPhone 5 battery depletes rapidly.

    hi guys. i'm back.
i solved my problem. i refer my iphone 5 to a local distributor. a repairman checked my iphone and i described my problem. he checked my battery. it was fine! then after an hour excavation around hardware solution he told me that the charging kit crashed because of heavy mobility usage!
yes. i did not covered my phone with any cover. the cpu pressure by ios update crashed the kit! now my phone get back after the kit changed and work finally. i restored my phone to ios 8.2 now.
i'm going to buy new iphone. but i'm really confused if such this issue really happened for iphone 6 too!!!!!
    i'm totally disappointed .

  • Battery life greatly decreased after ios 5.0.1 update on iPad 2 and iPhone 4S

Really disappointing considering my iPad 2 battery life used to be great, lasting up to a week with no recharge necessary.  Now my iPad battery life drops 1% every few minutes of casual use.
My iPhone 4S battery life under ios 5.0 used to be decent and could hold the charge well when idle only losing 1% every few hours as long as it was just sleeping.  Now I am losing 10 - 15% every few hours when it is just sleeping.  When I surf the net, I lose 1% each minute! This is with pretty much every battery wasting feature turned off except Siri.
I'm not sure how Apple managed to exacerbate a problem affecting tens of millions of people around the world with a fix that they've had weeks to test.  I mean they could've just emailed me and asked me to test it before they released it to the public, I could've told you within a few minutes that it didn't work.
Apple consistenly have problems with each new iPhone release.  They just can't seem to get it 100% right.  The camera, antenna and speed have vastly improved over the iPhone 4, but arguably the most important feature has taken a nose dive in quality.  I can't believe they marketed this phone as having IMPROVED battery life?  I don't think one person will agree that that is an accurate statement.

Do you have wifi syncing turned on? Is your itunes always open?
There is a glitch with the iPad where, as long and anytime iTunes is open, it'll sync...like once an hour or some such rate.
Originally the wifi syncing was only supposed to take place if the device is plugged into power, but that's not the case. If I have my iTunes open my iPad will try to sync almost continuously.
So check your wifi sync and iTunes settings (my iTunes used to be set to open automatically when the device is connected, I had to change it to only open when I do it manually because in the course of an evening's surfing my iPad opened my iTunes and started to sync three different times until I turned it off)
If you have iCloud syncing enabled that may also be contributing to your battery issues. I don't sync over iCloud, I tried it but after it ate all my contacts, I stopped using it. However, if the same glitch is present, the device trying to continually sync even when not plugged into power, that could also be part of your drain.

  • What can I do to save my battery life with the new ios 7.3 update

I Loved the ios 7.3 update. My battery lasted for the whole day and I use my phone a lot. I did the ios 7.3 update yesterday and my battery life is horrible. With 2 hours into my day today I was down to 80% battery and I hardly used my phone at all. I love my iphone, but this update was a horrible mistake for Apple!

Thank God that I am not the only one who lost battery life in 7.0.3.
I haven't changed settings from 7.0.0 to now. So I am not going to change settings. With that said my brightness is always at about half or lower, depending on the ambient light. Bluetooth is always off. LTE has always been on since I bought the 5 last year. Wifi stays on, connected or not. So with all these settings as they are, there has been a huge difference in battery life from 7.0.2 to 7.0.3.
I could swear that I went from 100% to 83% charge while I slept for 7 hours. ***??? Really?
I'll test it out again tonight.
I am at work and I turned off LTE for s&g. And still saw 5% drop in 40 minutes with a 2 or 3 minute use.

  • IPhone BATTERY DEAD over night after iOS 5.1 update( 2 nights in a row)

I updated my iPhone on Friday night to the "improved" iOS 5.1 software and I have now discovered that for the second night in a row, the battery is dead upon awakening in the morning with the phone having some 80% charge level when I went to sleep last night. Is anyone else having this problem after updating to the new iOS 5.1 software?
If so, ow do I fix it and what is the problem?
Thanks for taking the time to read/ respond

    Hello gdgmacguy
    1. What's the point to keep iPhone plugged in overtime during all night? Is there anything wrong if I'll restore without it? Is there any more detailed explanation?
    2. When I will restore iPhone as new, and if it resolves my problem, will I then be able to restore my data from existing backup so that to retain resolved problem?
Thank you very much for your support.

  • IPhone 4 Severe Battery Draw from 3G after iOS 6.1 update!!

    iPhone 4
    8GB Sprint
    iOS v6.1
After updating to v6.0, my average battery life was cut by at least 20%.  Very noticeable.  I updated to v6.1 with hopes that this widespread issue was resolved only to find out that if my 3G is turned on, my phone is getting extremely hot and will die from a full charge after three hours.
Has anyone else ran into this?  I have a colleague with a 4s who is having the same exact issue.
    Cheers

I just want them to fix it, everything just got worse after the update that was supposed to fix the bugs, and my moms phone that I'm on now...she's going to be mad as **** in the morning that I did the update..

  • HT4623 Reminders won't work after iOS 6.1 update on iPhone 5?

I updated to the new iOS 6.1 update last night. Went to make a reminder through siri and i get to the point were it asks to confim. When I press confirm Siri tells me that she can't do it. I try to set a reminder manually and the app does not give me the option to add a reminder manually. Everything worked fine before the update when my iPhone 5 had the 6.0 iOS?
Any ideas on what the problem coulb be? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Difficulty texting and and making calls after iOS 8.2 update on iphone 5

    Hi
Since upgrading to iOS 8.2 on my iPhone 5 a couple of months ago I have had cellular connectivity problems. But even when I have several bars of reception texts won't send / receive and phone calls fail. iMessage and wifi connection is unaffected. The problems occur 50% of the time. The rest of the time the phone works.
I have checked with my carrier and they say there are no signal problems in my area, I have also replaced the SIM card but problems continue. My carrier says it may be a fault with the phone and to take it to an Apple store. However as I am disabled this is difficult. The phone is also out of warranty.
Has any one else had similar issues and / or have any ideas how to fix it? Should I try a factory reset?

    Hi Saucelicious,
If you are having issues with your iPhone's cellular connectivity, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.
First, quit all running applications and test again -
Force an app to close in iOS
Next, I would try restarting and if needed resetting the iPhone -
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Battery life seems diminished after 10.6.3 update

My battery power seems to be diminished quite a bit since the 10.6.3 update. I used to get between 3 and 4 hours when just web surfing and email (nothing else active) and the screen brightness turned down to about 60%. Since the update I'm getting closer to 2.
I did a battery recalibration but still only getting around 2 hours on a fully charged battery.
    Istat says:
    Health: 95%
    Cycles:488
I've had the MBP for about a year and 5 months. Is it natural to get this sort of diminished performance?
    Thanks
    M.

My system does not require that "fix". It does not show up in my software update.
If you read down on that site you will see this:
    Here's what's changed
"In order to receive all the improvements listed above, some systems require the Mac OS X v10.6.3 Supplemental Update, which is available via Software Update.
_Tip: If you don't see the Mac OS X v10.6.3 Supplemental Update in Software Update, you don't need to install it._
Note: The Supplemental Update is for any system that was updated from Mac OS X v10.6 using the Mac OS X Update Combined v10.6.3, build 10D573. It is not needed on systems that were updated from Mac OS X v10.6.1 or 10.6.2, and it is not needed on systems that were updated from Mac OS X v10.6 using the Mac OS X Update Combined v10.6.3, v1.1."

  • Cannot make or receive calls after IOS 6.1 update on IPhone 5

Text and Data services still work fine.  All other features of my phone seem unaffected.  I have tried rebooting and resetting my network setting with no luck.  Any other recommendations on how to restore the ability to use my phone as a phone? This is a strange side affect for a software update (iOS 6.1)

  • After iOS 5.1 update on iPhone 4, some of my pictures in the camera roll become pixelated after a crop edit?

I will elaborate.  Lets say I save an image from a website.  Then I go to the camera roll and edit crop it to make the image a tad bit smaller. Suddenly the images becomes pixelated and blocky.  When  I return to the image and tap the edit button, it becomes clear again and I can see the original picture.  When I tap cancel, it goes back to beign pixelated/blocky.  I tired restoring my phone to factory setting and losing all my data.  That didn't work.  As soon as I tested it, the same thing happened.  I tried some weird method from www.iphoneincanada.ca an that didn't work either.
    This is very annoying!

I have more info.  I am using a program to look at the files on my iPhone.  I did some testing and I came up with this.  When a photo is edited ( in my case cropping) an image is created in the Metadata folder.  The metadata folder is contained in a folder called PhotoData.  For some reason, the cropped JPG is put within this metadata folder.  The  DCIM folder contains the "actual image" you saved from the internet or wherever.  When a photo is edited in camer roll, a .XMP file is created for that image (Sometimes) and it's about 1kb.  Coincidentally, the image that is pixelated DOES NOT have an .XMP file associated with it in the DCIM folder.
To conclude, it seems that the pictures that have a .XMP file associated with it in the DCIM folder does not come out as pixelated.
If there is a .XMP file then the photo in the Metadata folder become pixelated.

  • Lost all photos, contacts, calendar, etc. after ios 6.1 update on iphone 3. Help! How do I get my stuff back?

I was updating in order to get iCloud and Bump so I could transfer my data to my new iphone 5. My old phone was acting like it was a new phone and wanting me to set it up. I had to update itunes on my pc also. My data is not there either. I pulled up icloud, not there! I had a lot of pictures, notes, and contacts that I need. Can I restore them???

Did you fail to sync contacts/calendars with your computer regularly?
Did you fail ot import your pics?
If so, then they are very likely gone.  You can try restoring from backup.

  • Calendars won't stay merged after iOS 6.0 update on iphone 4s

I have multiple calendars and emails on my iphone 4s. Prior to my iOS6 update all calendars merged as one. since the update they won't stay merged. Same thing on my husband's 4s. Is it a setting that I'm missing or something else?

I still have no WiFi nor do I have Bluetooth capabilities on my iPhone 4S. I Tried to do a system restore and it's exactly the same as before. Could Apple please expedite an update to solve this WiFi issue? Maybe go back to how you had the WiFi working in iOS7??? It's cutting into my limited data plan and I'd appreciate it if I could use the product I paid for and not feel like I'm being scammed out of it for lack of a better term.

  • Iphone 5s calendar not accept entries after ios 7.1 update

after ios 7.1 update the iphone 5s calendar not accept entries but will accept entries from sync with outlook connection via my MS desktop outlook

So, sometimes you discover a "fix" totally by accident. I tried the following and it's worked for me 100% of the time so far. Any entries I make using this have appearded on my iPhone and on any device where I view my calendar. Hope this helps others:
    Open your calendar and then view it in the "month view";
Tap the hybrid view icon which is at the top to the left of the search icon at the top right of the screen; you'l see a list of the days activities at the the bottom of the screen.
Now, tap the "+" icon at the top to the right of the search icon. This will allow you to type in the event, time, date, etc that you want to enter.
Click "done" at the top right when finished. Now, you should see the event that you just entered at the bottom of the screen under the days activities. That should "stick" even if you close the calendar, or whatever. When I checked, it also showed up as it should on other devices. You can edit events, delete them, etc--it's worked for me.
I'm not sure why this worked--or what it's the only way to be able to enter an event since the move to iOS 7.1--but it's working for me--so why ask why??
