Battery lowers even when laptop is off

When I shut off my laptop then turn it on in the morning or whenever, the battery percentage is lower than before i turned it off. Does this happen to anyone else?

Hi @Saarthak_b,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are having concerns about your battery life on your HP Notebook PC. I will try my best to help you with this issue. To better guide you, could you please tell me the full model or product number of your computer and the operating system that is running on it. Here are some guides for How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? and Which Windows operating system am I running?.
In the meantime, here is a document for Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 8) that may resolve this issue for you.
I hope this helps, please let me know how it goes.
Thank you and have a nice day!

  • Battery drain even when iPod is off and hold button is on

The battery on my 20G click wheel is draining too fast.
If I do the battery test and let it run, it goes 12 hours fine. If I want to find certain songs or what-not, it drains the battery too quick. I know it does use more battery, but it's ridiculously to the point where clicking through to a few songs drains a quarter to half of the battery. I'm not leaving the backlight on, either.
Now, the battery seems to be running when the iPod is off and the hold button is set. The other day I charged it with the lock on, unplugged it, came back a day later and saw the charge was gone. Last night, I had half a charge when I turned it off, turned the hold on, and could hear a little noise through my headphones when I turned the hold on. Today, no charge.
Any ideas, or is my battery toast? I have already restored this iPod once, so I don't think it's a software problem.

  • My new iPhone 4S loses battery life even when switched off?

Purchased a new iPhone just last week.
I drained the battery completely and then full cycle charged it. Disabled Siri, location, apps, notifications etc.
So far I have been very conservative with my iPhone making phone calls and texts only.
Just started to notice these past 3 days that i lose 2-3% of battery life even when my iPhone is switched off..
    How is this even possible?
Any help or advice on how i can solve this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Why is my iphone 5 battery dying even with phone turned off ?

Why is my iphone 5 battery dying even with phone turned off ? Even when my phone is fully charged and I turn it off when I turn it back on the battery is drained. Why ?

Completely drained when turning the iPhone on after being off?
All lithium-ion batteries lose some charge when the computer or device is powered off.
If the battery is entirely depleted after the iPhone is powered off with a fully charged battery at the time, something is wrong - unless powered off for a number of weeks or months.

  • Can't get 2 exchange accounts, even when push is off?

Is there no way to have 2 exchange accounts set up at the same time, even when push is off and I just check them manually?
Why can't the phone simply check whichever account I choose when I open the mail app instead of limiting it to one account when there's no push involved?

You can check email on two Exchange accounts, but you can't use ActiveSync functionality for two Exchange accounts. (There is a limit of one ActiveSync account on the device, and this is true of Windows Mobile as well.)
At least one of the two Exchange accounts needs to be set up for IMAP or POP to do what you want and you can only check email on that IMAP or POP account (no calendar or contact sync).

  • September 2011 MacBookAir4,2 1.7 GHz White noise even when sound turned off

Since new this MacAir has had a white noise like a tv not tuned in even when sound is off. Gets worse as it gets warmer. Seems to be getting worse then ever.(summer). Usually connected to a Thunderbolt Display and makes noise only when display is attached. Disconnect the display and the noise goes quite after a few minutes till display is again attached.
    Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.2 (12C60)
I think it is the Cooling Fans making the noise and the Thunderbolt connector gets hot after a few minutes.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Try checking the hard disk for errors just in case.
Open Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.
Insert your Mac OS X Install disc in your computer’s optical drive or an optical drive connected to your computer, and then restart your computer. When you hear the startup tone, hold down the C key until you see the progress indicator, which looks like a spinning gear.
Follow the onscreen instructions until the menu bar appears with the Utilities menu in it, choose Utilities > Disk Utility, click First Aid, and then click Verify. Of Disk Utility reports errors, click Repair. When it's finished, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Disk. In the Startup Disk window select MacintoshHD 10.x.x and click Restart.
Also, while you have Disk Utility open, Repair Disk Permissions, reboot and see if the sound anomaly still exists.

  • Battery drains even when asleep.

    Hi,
I updated to 10.4.1 and now my battery drains even when the computer is sleeping.
    I didn't change any settings.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

I set up my brand new ibook today and am a bit confused. I calibrated the battery tonight and it is charged 100%. I plan to use it tomorrow. Should I unplug it from the wall and let it sleep tonight? Is that the normal procedure? Then use it tomorrow and recharge the battery? Or should I shut it down completely (like I do with my PC notebook) and start it up again tomorrow?
Also - with the new ibooks, is there still the problem about maintenance scripts running in the middle of the night while the computer is sleeping?
    Thanks!

  • T420s battery being discharges even when laptop is closed

So my T420s, even when I close the lid the battery still discharges. I talked to Lenovo help and they said it was the battery but I bought a new one and the problem is still exactly the same. Please help me! Any ideas what to do?

The computer is still on when the lid is closed. If you want it to turn off and not not use power you'll need to shutdown or hibernate with the fingerprint reader (if so equipped) turned off. You could also set it up to sleep, which will still use some power, but not that much.

  • USB 3.0 Port powered even when laptop off.

    I have a HP Envy 15 with USB 3.0.
When my laptop is off the USB ports still provide power.
I use a USB powered laptop cooler which continues to run its fans even after the Laptop is shutdown/powered off.
I also have a USB external Keyboard and Mouse.  It, the USB connecting device displays its LEDs even after the Laptop it is connected to is powered off.
My previous laptop didn't do this.
Is there some way to fix this?
    Thanks.

I bought the HP 17 1011NR Model on July 11 2010.Attached is the e-mail I send to HP customer service representative .The Answer i was given is that this issue is the design of all HP ENVY laptop and they will forward this issues to the their supervisor who will in turn send it to HP technical team to see if this can be fixed by a patch .I am guessing it can be handled with the patch in BIOS hope they will follow up on it.
Scrap from E-mail send to HP customer service:
After shutting down the Laptop all the 4 USB ports are powered, meaning they behave like a powered USB port. This is causing issue as I use all of my USB ports, to which I have connected Docking Station, TV Tuner, Laptop Cooling Pad etc. They are not shutting down as the USB is still powered after shut down. This is wearing down the Docking Station, Laptop Cooling Pad, TV tuner as they keep running until I remove them from the USB ports or remove the power adapter. This is becoming an irritation as every night I have go thru this exercise of unplugging the gadgets connected to USB port. I am using this as a desktop replacement and I have not seen a behavior like this in other HP laptops that I have.
Please fix this or let me know how to power down the USB port after Shutdown (Like BIOS setting or WINDOWS7 Settings) or update your tech specs in HP Website to details that all the 4 USB ports are powered ports.

  • IPhone battery discharges even when turned off since iOS 5.1.1

Since updating to iOS 5.1.1 I have had battery problems, discharging at around 4% per hour even when not used. Turning off every concieveable service and reloaded iOS as a new device unfortunately has not solved the problem. I have resorted to leaving the phone plugged in all of the time and recently started to turn it off overnight. To my surprise, the phone continues to discharge when turned off! I couldn't find this problem when I searched (apologies if I didn't search hard enougth!)

I have been waiting for months for the next iOS to see if it would rectify my battery drain problem but I continued to have the battery discharge problem after installing iOS6 .
My Home button has been playing up with random no responses and random double clicks, so I replaced the home button hoping that may also address the battery drain issue - no joy.
Then I had a look to see if I had added any Apps when the problem first appeared at the time of upgrading to iOS5.1.1. (You can view Apps by date in iTunes on the iPhone Apps tab.)
It turns out that on about the same day as the iOS 5.1.1 update I also added the Lifesize ClearSea video conferencing App. Today I disabled the App in iTunes (unchecked it) and resynced the iPhone. I believe this removes the App from the phone whilst leaving it in my iTunes so I can add it back easily. For the first time in months my phone is now cold rather than luke warm.
Superficially at least it seems that ClearSea has been running in the background, even when manually quitted and even when the iPhone was powered OFF! I will report back in a few days to confirm this was the culprit.
Five months with a phone that barely lasts a day has been a real pain...

  • 3gs fast battery discharge even when powered off

I have a 3gs (not jailbroken) which discharges the battery really quickly to the point where it cannot be recharged.  It discharges the battery to the point where it won't take a charge, even if fully powered off.  I have replaced the battery twice and upgraded to ios 5, setup as a new phone. Still nothing.  I am out of ideas, is there anyone who can assist please?
    Not under warranty
    Using latest version of itunes

Any number of things could have gone wrong. Dirt or some conductive material could have fallen into the phone and be shorting something out. Any number of components could have been damaged in such a way as to cause a short.
Apple offers a reasonably priced battery replacement program for iPhones. That would have been the best route to take. Since it's been opened, I doubt you'd be able to go that route now.
It's also possible that the battery you got is NOT up to the specs it was supposedly rated for.

  • Why does my MacBook Pro battery discharge even when the charger is plugged in?

I've been having a myriad of problems with my MacBook Pro's battery. The main problem is that when in use, the battery steadily discharges often at a very quick rate even when I have the charger plugged in, the only way I can get it to recharge is to close the lid or turn the computer off, however, it has recently started to take a very long time to recharge (I left it for 12 hours and it charged from 0% to 60%). I also noticed that while off, the charger light occassionaly goes green and then back to orange every few minutes. When I manage to get the battery up to 100% charge, it usually stays at 'Charged' for around 5 or 10 minutes and then it just comes up with 'Calculating...' as it slowly discharges, it also occassionaly claims that it is recharging and that it will take around 6 to 8 hours but it only charges about 1% of the battery and switches to 'Not charging'. Also, sometimes the charger light wont come on when it is plugged in and the Mac refuses to acknowledge it is plugged in for some time.
I took it to the Apple Store a few months ago and one of the Geniuses reset the System Management controller and did a quick hardware test which seemed to fix it but the problems returned soon after, I cannot enter the hardware test screen and subsequent attempts to reset the SMC have done nothing, he also tested the charger and tried it with another charger but it did not help.  Hope you guys can help me as I am completely stumped by this and its beginning to annoy me as my Mac is becoming almost unusable.

  • IPod charges fine, but uses it's batteries even when it's off??

Okay, this happened recently. My iPod charges up fine, connects to my computer fine, everything. However, I have a feeling that it's using up it's batteries even when it's turned off. For instance, I charged it up to it's max battery level last night, and when I woke up this morning, turning on my iPod showed the no-battery indicator. Anyone know what's up? My iPod also gets really hot, too.

I think its the battery itself, its just loosing charge and/or not holding it anymore, that can happen after a year or so of lots of use because the same exact thing is happening to mine right now, execpt for the getting hot part idk what that is about, but yeah mine will die over night on a full charge and only last maybe a hour when in use after a full charge it ***** and its gay because apple ends the warrenty after 1 year and thats usally when it starts happening.

  • 97% Battery Life (Even When Plugged In), Have Had MacBook for 2 Days

I've been experiencing a problem with my MacBook Core 2 Duo's battery life, and I have only owned if for 2 days. When I have it plugged it to the power adapter, it will charge only up to 97% instead of 100% (even if I turn it off and leave it for a few hours). Then when I turn it on and disconnect it from the power adapter, the 97% drops to 95% within a minute or two.
Does anyone have any suggestions regarding how to fix this problem, or advice on whether or not it is an issue that needs to be fixed?
MacBook Core 2 Duo (2.0GHz, 1GB RAM) Mac OS X (10.4.8) Basically brand new.

that happen to me. i don´t know if you keep always plug in AC power to you MB?, but I do and my Batt never reach 100%. Please check http://www.batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htm and you will find information about it. In brief, you MUST keep your batt charge between 20 and 80% to extend you battery life even amazing 500 cycles!!!, avoiding extreme charge and discharges (never 0%, never 100%) but also soft events.
