Battery meter stuck at 100% Power Source: Power Adapter even when unplugged

For the past few days my Macbook Pro has been saying it's plugged in even when it is not. The battery meter stays at 100% even though the battery is draining. The other day it died while I was using it and gave no warning that the battery was low. The battery meter on the side seems to show the correct battery level, however.
Is there any way that I can reset whatever runs the battery meter?

Reset the System Management Controller:

If that doesn't correct it and you still have waranty coverage, take the machine in for service.

  • Power source: Power Adapter even when not plugged in

My 13" Macbook (Late 2008 Version) says that the power source is the power adapter even when it is not plugged in. Because of this it will not switch to the energy saver options for when it is running off of the batter as opposed to being plugged in. Why is it doing this? I have tried resetting the SMC and that has not worked.

mine has started to do the same thing. I have reset the nano 3 times. When I turn it off the "charged battery" icon stays on though the light is off. I plugged it in to the computer and had to reset for the computer to find. After leaving it plugged in for a few hours I unplugged and tried again. Still says "charged" all the time.
I could try a hard reset...., but has any one else experienced this?

  • Battery meter stuck at 100% on Ipad 4

I tried resetting and it worked the first day. Second day it didn't work, downloading a battery app fixed the problem that day. Third day nothing works and is really annoying.
What could I do? Is this a software problem?
    Thanks a lot in advance.

This has happened to me a couple of times and rebooting or restarting the iPad eventually cures it for me.
Try a combination of things like plug it into the wall socket to recharge for a few minutes and then uplug it. Reboot the iPad again and see if the indicator starts working again.
Power the iPad down for about 10 minutes or so, restart it and see if that helps.
Just start experimenting with things like to see if you can trip the gauge back into working properly.
Of course you could try resetting all settings as well. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings. If you do that you will have to set all of the preferences again in the settings app.

  • Power adapter plugged or unplugged when using an external display?

What is the best practice if the Macbook is connected with an external display , keyboard and mouse...Power adapter plugged or unplugged? And how will it affect the Battery Capacity?

Plugged and if you have any more questions, see [Here|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131]. Notice that the answer to your question is step# 1.

  • IPod Won't Power Up, Even When Connected to Mac

I'm trying to figure out if there's any chance this could just be the battery, or a more catastrophic failure (harddrive, etc.). The iPod will not power up, even when connected to the Mac, and will not mount as a removable drive either.
I've been having trouble with the battery for some time now (it will only hold a charge for about an hour, two tops) but I would think that even if the battery failed outright it would still work when plugged in (either to the wall, or to the Mac).
Does anyone know for certain if that is the case? I'd hate to waste any money sending this off to ipodresq.com for a battery if it's something more serious. (And this one is so old, if it is a harddrive failure or anything like that I'd be better served to buy a new one.

Thanks for those links; I performed a hard reset and that seems to have brought the iPod back to life, at least for now. I suspect that the battery is no longer holding any significant charge and needs to be replaced, which might be why it locked up in the first place.
So now I get to decide if this 1st gen iPod is worth the money to replace the battery, or if I should just finally buy a new one. (I definitely do not want one of those rumored touchscreen models, though, if they turn out to be reality... impossible to navigate by touch alone while driving, and I have no use for video on an iPod - I want to watch video BIGGER, not smaller!)
    Thanks again!

  • IPad battery life meter stuck at 100% since 5.1 install

My iPad 1 battery life meter has been stuck on 100% since the 5.1 update, even though I have used it for many hours and done a power cycle a few times. Update was done through iTunes.

I guess I spoke too soon...
Doing the reset took it from sticking on 100% to now being stuck on 98% for the last 4 hours. Is there a known problem with the 5.1 update and the battery percentage indicator?

  • Battery meter not registering correct power remaining?

I have an iPhone 3G 8GB, it has been working fine until recently. Yesterday, I charged it over night and the battery meter was at full green. I had used it a bit throughout the day. I got a phone call around noon and suddenly the phone shut off and showed the battery in the red with the "charge" symbol below it. I plugged it in and charged it back to 100%. This morning, I've already used the phone quite a bit and the bar is still at full green, which is very unusual. I have powered off a few times to see if that worked to get the meter to read correctly and it still shows full charge.
Is there anything I can do to get it to show the correct battery life again?

Do you have an exchange account set up? If yes, delete it and set it up again.
Try to restore the phone "as new iphone" to make sure no corrupt data is copied back and see if this solves the issue. If not, you'll have to see your next Apple Store or call Apple to get it serviced.

  • X40 battery meter stuck

    My battery meter has stuck.
It is displayed in the toolbar, but it stays showing the same % remaining battery all the time.
When I switch off, or put it to sleep, and power back on again, it displays the correct battery level - but then sticks at that level.
It used to work perfectly well.  Does anyone have any hints about how to start it again?  I've tried rebooting, and I've tried reinstalling the power manager.

Hi rteather and welcome to the community,
What version are you running?  Your driver page shows version 5.05 but the ThinkVantage programs updates shows version 5.12.
Maybe you need a different version for it to work.  Your driver page also shows Battery Maximiser and and Power Manager features available for download.

  • Battery reading stuck at 100% (iPad3)

My battery display on my new iPad (3rd gen.) is stuck at 100% even after using it for a couple of hours.  It happened last week and I was able to fix it by turning off the percentage display under settings and turining it back on.  Now that I've recharged, the problem has come back.  I've also tried to reboot by holding down sleep and home but that doesn't work.  I've read that other people have had this problem with the iPad2, but most of them blamed it on an iOS update.  Just wondered if anybody has experienced this with the iPad3, and if so, can you offer a solution?
    Thanks

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • Battery icon stuck at 100%

My battery indicator is stuck at 100%. It will stay there until it dies. I have tried resetting by holding home and power keys. I have also tried connecting to iTunes and doing a restore. It is still stuck at 100%. Any ideas on how to fix it? It is pretty annoying not knowing how much battery life is left.

My battery indicator is stuck at 100%. It will stay there until it dies.
If restoring as a new iPhone (not from a backup) doesn't fix it, there may be a hardware problem. In that case, make an appointment with an Apple Store Genius Bar for warranty service.

  • IPhone 5 battery getting stuck at 100%

I recently got an iPhone 5 16GB as a gift, and I love it. I have only charged it 5 times and the lowest I've let the battery get so far is 14%. However the one problem i've been having is that two of the five total times i've charged it, the battery percentage will be stuck at 100% for about 2-3 hours even after moderate to heavy use before it starts to show that it's going down. The only conclusion I have for this is that the lowest I've let the battery get is 14% and not completely drained yet. Would charging the phone to 100% then letting it get so low that it turns itself off fix this issue?

Depending upon what you consider to be "moderate to heavy use" what you are seeing might be normal.  I charge my iPhone 5 every night, many mornings, it goes 1-1.5 hours before it drops form 100%.  I don't use my iPhone all the time, but I do tend to use it to look at emails in teh morning beofer I get to the office.  In the 1.5 hours after I unplug it, it may have 10-15 minutes of "screen on time" before the battery meter shows it dropping from 100%.  I suspect that there is nothing wrong with your iPhone or battery, it is just that you might not be sued to the battery efficiency the iPhone 5 has in comparison to older iPhone models.

  • IPad 2 battery meter stuck, anyone else?

It seems after downloading a few apps and putting the iPad to sleep with wifi on the battery meter stops updating the next day when I wake it from sleep. I used to notice the ipad draining by 1% every 9 minutes, but now it has been 20+ minutes and no change. A reset seems to fix the problem, but is anyone else encountering this issue or willing to test? I'm on iOS 4.3.5

Ater a few more weeks of testing, I have noticed several more details about the battery. After a full charge to 100%, the first few % (going from 100% down to 90%) takes longer to drain compared to the rest of the battery. So going from 100% down to 99% took me 22 minutes and towards the 90% mark, I noticed more consistent drainage (about 9 minutes for every 1%)
The second thing I noticed is that downloading apps had nothing to do with the battery meter getting stuck. It just took a really long time (about 27 to 30 min) for it to get unstuck after I first woke it from sleep. This would happen only when I left the ipad for long periods of inactivity (sleep). It would not happen after putting it to sleep and waking it up in 10 minutes (battery continues to drain properly).
The third thing I tried to test was to rule out the battery meter reporting the % incorrectly. If the meter was following a pattern whereby it was stuck at 100% for 30 min and then continued to drain properly, this should affect the ipads battery life. I continued to use the ipad over the course of a week (with the meter getting "stuck" several times) until it hit its final 1%. I was able to use it for about 6-7 minutes before it died. Basically the ipads battery meter was reporting the % accurately (even with the meter being "stuck") or the ipad would have just died at around 2% or more since the ipads battery meter was constantly getting "stuck" over the course of the week.
I think this has something to do with the rechargeable batteries themselves. For instance; after heavy usage of the battery followed by a long period of rest, the battery seems to gain some of its charge back or at least retain a higher capacity (this would explain why the battery meter seems stuck when you wake it from a long sleep). However; after heavy usage and a short rest period, the battery seems to not retain this ability.
I'm not sure if this phenomenon applies to all rechargeable batteries and it would be great if other ipad owners would post their experience (not even sure if anyone else actually takes the time to stare at their battery meter and time it for every % that goes down lol).

  • Hp zv5242qv laptop with windows vista will not run on battery but will run on power adapter

Hello, I have a HP zv5242qv pavilion zv5000 series laptop with windows vista installed. I can run it on the power adapter with and without the battery installed but it will not power up on just the battery, the battery is new and fully charged. When I plug in the power adapter the battery light on the front of the laptop comes o then goes off, anyone have any ideas about my problem ?

    Hello,
The situation you describe looks like the unit has problems with the battery, but you say the battery is new and is fully charged.
Then, the issue might be with the system board and maybe there isn't anyhting you can do.
You can try to remove the battery and the ac adapter, and keep the power button pressed for 30 seconds, then connect the ac adapter, turn on the unit, then when in windows put the battery in place, see how it is detected, the power level and restart the PC. See if the unit restarts with the battery in place, if yes, then shutdown the unit.
See what happens and report back.
    Thanks,

Thanks for the specs. Unfortunately, the real problem is 6V AC adapters are extremely hard to come by, as I can't find one anywhere.
