Battery never fully charged

I got an iPod touch last saturday and i noticed that when chargeing the battery gets to about one thin line away from fully charged and then never finishes charging, but when unplugging it shows a full charge, and sometimes if I plug it back in it'll either go back to a line away from 100% or show the plug symbol (full charge)
Any ideas?

i now know about the quick and full charge. Quick charge is now represented as one thin line away from 100%, while full charge (leaving the ipod charging for a bout an hour after you reach the thin line will show the plug symbol).

  • Can't calibrate because battery never fully charges

I want to calibrate the battery in my new MacBook.
According to Apple's instructions, the battery must first be fully charged before you let it drain down for the calibration.
Problem is, I can never get my battery fully charged. The battery indicator in the menu bar shows it getting up to 99 percent charged, but never 100 percent.
    Any suggestions?

Try to charge it when the MacBook is off.
Charge until the magsafe adapter turn green and all 5 led lit green, then turn on your MacBook and start the calibration.
    Hope this help

  • 4 days old MBP 13". First boot up showed charge of 100%, next boot up showed battery fully charged but the percentage read 98% in the subsequent boot ups the battery is fully charged but percentage reads 96%. Whats wrong??

I recently purchased a 13" MacBook Pro. On my first boot up, the battery charged to 100%. I didn't operate this thing on the battery. The next time I booted this thing up, the battery was charged but the meter read 98%. In the subequent boot ups of this machine, and I still having not used the battery, my battery is fully charged but the meter now reads 96%. IS there some problem with the hardware or the software? Help is appreciated!!
    Thanks.

hey thank you for the info. Based on what happened, the battery has gone up to 100% just once when I booted this machine for the first time. On subsequent occasions the Battery Charged symbol has appreard at below 100% charging. I have been using my MacBook Pro for the whole day with outlet power and never did the battery go back to 100%. I hope I don't have to calibrate the battery on this model?

  • Apple Support: Distressing under performance on simple questions: new iPod Shuffle battery never gets charged.

New in the mail the other day:  iPod Shuffle.  Works great, except it has never indicated that the battery is charged (orange lamp continuously blinks.)  Should I send it back?  Simple enough question right?
So I go to the Support site, enter a ticke with my Apple ID and the S/N of my new device, express via choosers that it's a battery issue ... but there is no ability to even say what I did above just now.
Of the support alternatvies, I schedule a call.  The phone call came over 30 minutes later than was scheduled.   And then!  The operator didn't have the information that I'd taken time to enter in to the webforms -- critically, the S/N, etc.  I expressed a bit of frustration, we ended the call after I'd recited as much as she could take notes for.  Later I get an email from her (bless her spirit!) ... with all of the links I read BEFORE going to effort of filling the support documents out and scheduling the call.
I'm really wierded out by this.  APPLE COMPUTER -- THIS IS BABY FOOD BASIC CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT!
So, do I send the little stinker back or just live with having purchased a defective device from a company incapable of supporting it?!!!!

I don't think it is defective.  The light will ALWAYS blink orange when connected to iTunes, if the shuffle is set to Manually manage music (or Enable disk use).  You can check the setting on the shuffle's Summary screen in iTunes.
Blinking light - This means DO NOT DISCONNECT.  Eject shuffle before disconnecting.
Solid light - This means OK TO DISCONNECT.
A solid green light does mean battery is fully charged, but it will never blink green.  There is an eject button next to the shuffle in iTunes.  When you eject the shuffle and leave it connected to the computer, you should see the light become solid green (if the battery is fully charged).

I have exactly the same problem, which started again yesterday; coincidentally the day my warranty ran out!
The situation is complicated for me because I live in rural lincolnshire, but was in London all summer and had a new logic board replaced under warranty last month at the London- Stratford store.
It seems the £400 logic board replacement didn't fix it. When I try to get support, the website just laughs at me and holds out the cup for more money.  I had a chat with somebody in the store this evening and I've got to take it into a store AGAIN!
Perusal of the 'Support' pages turns up literally thousands of people who have this or similar faults, all the way back to 2006, and I've not seen anything yet indicating that Apple have got a grip of it.
I've been using Apple kit for 16 years now and I've never had any trouble until now, but this bloody laptop, which is no better than my iMac now for portability  has let me down badly several times in the last 6 weeks.
I'm really hacked off with this, get your **** together Apple!

Hi! I'm just having a little trouble when it comes to battery charging of my iPhone 5 with its new iOS 7! It doesn't indicates that the battery is fully charge unlike the old version of iOS! I already read some reviews and discussion about this. They said that the lightning bolt should pulsate when charging but it's not!

Thanks for the replies. It took a while not hearing anything so thought I was alone. I have done many of the suggestions already. The key here is that it occurs on both phones with apps, and phones still packaged in a box.
A Genius Bar supervisor also checked his Verizon data usage log and found the same 6 hour incremental use. Suprisingly, he did not express much intrigue over that. Maybe he did, but did not show it.
I think the 6 hour incremental usage is the main issue here. I spoke with Verizon (again) and they confirmed that all they do is log exactly when the phone connected to the tower and used data. The time it records is when the usage started. I also found out that the time recorded is GMT.
What is using data, unsolicited, every 6 hours?
    Why does it change?
Why does it only happen on the iPhone 5 series and not the 4?
Since no one from Apple seems to be chiming in on this, and I have not received the promised calls from Apple tech support that the Genius Bar staff said I was suppose to receive, it is starting to feel like something is being swept under the rug.
I woke up the other day with another thought ... What application would use such large amounts of data? Well ... music, video, sound and pictures of course. Well ... what would someone set automatically that is of any use to them? hmmm ... video, pictures, sound. Is the iPhone 5 succeptible to snooping? Can an app be buried in the IOS that automatically turns on video and sound recording, and send it somewhere ... every 6 hours? Chilling. I noted that the smallest data usage is during the night when nothing is going on, then it peaks during the day. The Genius Bar tech and I looked at each other when I drew this sine wave graph on the log print outs during an appointment ...

  • My four-month-old macbook pro's battery when fully charged is now down to 2 hours life from 7...in the last week. Why?

I bought my macbook pro 13" about four months ago and have been in love with it ever since - especially as compared to my old PC laptop, the battery stays cool and lasts forever when I am working. Best charge was 7 hours. However, in the last week I have noticed the battery suddenly becoming hot when I unplug the charger, and the best length of time I can get on a full charge is 2 hours.
I have made sure all the settings are for prolonged battery life - which they've been since I first set up - and turned off all programmes running in the background, but this has not made any difference. I have been using iMovie a lot lately which takes a lot of battery which is probably why I didn't notice the battery being low as it automatically seems to make the battery slump to 2 hours when it's on. It's off now, and my battery won't improve.
I have also now followed the instructions (below) about calibrating, but this has had no effect. My housemate bought the same model a month ahead of me, uses it probably slightly less, but his is still 7 hours for a charge.
    Is my battery faulty?
    Calibration instructions used:
PowerBook G4 (15-inchDouble-Layer SD), MacBook (all models), MacBook Pro (all models), and MacBookPro (17-inch) (all models)
Thebattery calibration for the PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD) and anymodel of MacBook or MacBook Pro has been updated because of a new batteryreleased with this computer. With these computers, follow these steps tocalibrate your battery:
Plug in the power adapter and     fully charge your PowerBook's battery until the light ring or LED on the     power adapter plug changes to green and the onscreen meter in the menu bar     indicates that the battery is fully charged.
Allow the battery to rest in the     fully charged state for at least two hours. You may use your computer     during this time as long as the adapter is plugged in.
Disconnect the power adapter while     the computer still on and start running the computer off battery power.     You may use your computer during this time. When your battery gets low,     the low battery warning dialog appears on the screen.
At this point, save your     work.  Continue to use your computer; when the battery gets very low,     the computer will automatically go to sleep.
Turn off the computer or allow it     to sleep for five hours or more.
Connect the power adapter and     leave it connected until the battery is fully charged again.
Tip:When the battery reaches "empty", the computer is forced into sleepmode. The battery actually keeps back a reserve beyond "empty", tomaintain the computer in sleep for a period of time. Once the battery is trulyexhausted, the computer is forced to shut down. At this point, with the safesleep function introduced in the PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD)computers, the computer's memory contents have been saved to the hard drive. When power is restored, the computer returns itself to its pre-sleep stateusing the safe sleep image on the hard drive.

  • Battery never stops charging....

I have a Powerbook I got back in September of last year, and overall I've really enjoyed using it, but I have a somewhat unusual problem. I'm hoping that it's only my impatience and that there isn't really anything to worry about, but let me begin.
I often use my machine while it is plugged into an AC outlet, with the battery installed in the bottom of the machine. Now, after the battery is fully charged, it shouldn't start charging again until the battery percentage drops below %94, according to the user's manual. Also, the light is supposed to change from amber to green and stay that color until the machine begins charging again. However, my machine seems to be in a continuous state of charging, even after I am supposedly charged up to full capacity. This only happens while I am operating the machine on AC power, not when I'm charging the machine with the power off. In fact, right now my batter is supposedly at full capacity, but instead of getting the "plug" battery icon, at the top of my screen I still see the "charge" icon with (calculating) displayed where the time should be. I thought that maybe it was simply finishing its charging for the last little bit, but even if I unplug the power cable and re-plug it, it will switch to the "plug" icon for a second and then resume charging.
To sum up, my machine continues to charge even after it is supposed to stop. I tried the battery updater, but it said that I didn't need the update. If someone could provide me instructions on resetting the PMU, I intend to try that next. Please, anybody else who is having this problem let me know if there is an easy solution. Thanks.
    Powerbook G4 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   1.5Ghz, 1GB RAM

Okay, so I misjudged. The machine does recognize the full charge available now. I imagine that there must be some sort of strange interaction involved between the mouse and the rest of the hardware on startup, because it was fine after I booted up with the mouse disconnected. Either that, or it just takes a very long time to charge the last little bit of capacity available to the battery before it's done, and the machine doesn't recognize the battery as full until it's "cycled" and the plug shows green for the first time.
