Battery not charging, LED light on power cord not on

Hi. My battery was not charging. So I bought a new battery. Even when the battery said 0%, the power cord kept the computer running. The new battery says 59% right out of the box, but it still says that the computer is not charging it. The power cord light is off, and has been since the problem began. I have tried plugging into multiple outlets, but the battery will not charge. The computer still stays on. What should I do now??

  • No lights on power cord and no battery charging

My 3.5 year old iBook (fresh out of applecare plan, of course) has suddenly stopped charging the battery. When I plug in the power cord neither the green nor the orange ring light up. The battery will not charge, but as long as I am plugged in, the iBook runs.
I took it to the Mac Store Genius Bar, and they said they didn't know after doing the usual stuff (reset PMU, tested power cord, used different power cord.)
Any ideas on what i can do?

One thing to try is to reset the PMU again--maybe several times:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449
It sounds like you may have two non functioning batteries. Do you have a friend with an iBook with a known good battery? If so, after resetting the PMU, you could see if a battery that is known to be good is recognized and will charge. Also, see if either of your batteries will charge in your friend's iBook.
It seems to me that the genius bar should have been able to sort this out for you. Perhaps you didn't get a very smart genius--it happens.
I don't really know of any other troubleshooting steps to take here--possibly one of the more experienced and knowledgeable members of the forum would know something else to try. Or could confirm that the problem is likely to be the DC In Board.
I seem to remember that Apple sometimes charges quite a lot for this repair. An alternative is:
    DT&T: iBook G4 Parts & Repair Services
    http://www.dttservice.com/ibookg4.html
I have never used them myself, but I have seen them recommended many times on this forum.
Please post back if nothing works.

  • MacBook Pro won't turn on after crash. Magsafe charger LED light blinking rapidly

Hi. I hope you can help me.
I have a macbook Pro 13", from september 2012, which crashed earlier today:
I was charging my iphone through USBport on my macbook (not an Apple USB-iPhone power-cable) .
My MacBook was charging through the magsafe charger (about 30% power i think).
I took the phone out to make a call, when that was done, I reconnected the phone to my mac for further charging.
My MacBook crashed instantly. I took out the USB cable, tried to turn on my mac, but nothing happened. There was no light in the magsafe LED.
The crashing has happened before, when I've been charging my phone through USB connections, but I've always been able to turn my mac back on.
This time nothing happened when I pushed the power button. It had comepletely shorted out.
BTW. Earlier today I received a "storage almost full" warning on my mac, and I was actually in the middle of cleaning that up (deleting downloads and trash files).
    Typical and just my luck!
Now, a few hours later, I tried restoring SMC (shift+ctrl+alt+power), and now the charger LED is blinking rapidly (but faintly) orange.
Do you have any ideas on how to fix this? All applestores nearby are closed today, I live in Denmark.
Thank you so much in advance!
    Kind regards Emilie

    Try the SMC reset again:
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295
    Then try a NVRAM reset:
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063
    Then try a safe boot:
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262
If no success, then you will have to take it in for service.
    Ciao.

  • G5 won't boot.  White LED lights when power button is pushed, click heard.

Unlike some other non-booting G5 stories, mine never makes it past this stage. It's a dual 1.8ghz G5 powermac.
The white LED above the power button turns on when the power button is pressed, a click is heard, but it does not go any further. The LED does not flash at all... no grey screen, no hard-drive access, nada.
When I push the power button with the aluminum side removed (but with the transparent insert in place), I can see the fans twitch like they are going to start spinning, but then immediately stop.
I've tried resetting the PMU, replacing the PRAM(CMOS) battery, another identical type of video card, blowing out the dust with compressed air, removing and swapping memory, but always get this same result.
There was some renovation done in the house recently, but the machine was gently wrapped and moved away from the work. However after 2 weeks of sitting there, it now won't start.
Any help is appreciated. If the 'clicking' of the power supply is being heard (also clicks when I plug in the power cord), does that mean the power supply is likely working? In which case, is it likely a logic board issue?
One thing I noticed upon closer inspection, after removing the main fan, is that the higher processor seems darker than the lower one. Is there a way to remove one processor to test for hardware failure?

    Hi subculture,
A power supply is not to difficult to replace. The lower processor must be removed. It is much easier to lay the Mac on its side. A used power supply can be found on ebay. There are 2 main power connector that connect to the logic board. Those can be tested with a DC voltage meter against a pinout chart for your particular model and can be found on google.

  • X Through battery icon, no LED light on MagSafe, 2 month old Macbook Pro

This all started this afternoon. I noticed a black X through the battery icon in the upper tool bar, then noticed that there was no LED light on the MagSafe charger. The fan on my computer was also constantly running. This computer is only TWO months old. Since day one I have run the battery down before re-charging. This should have properly calibrated the battery.
Is there some simple fix for this or do I have to take time out of my life during the holiday season, trek to the mall and pray that someone at the genius bar has time to resolve this issue? Hoping there is a saint here somewhere to help me out

    MamaGG:
    Call Apple Care (800) 275-2272.
Your computer is warranted for 1 year for Hardware and for 3 mos, I believe, for free phone tech support.
They may have you take it to the Apple Store near you for the "genius" to work on it.
Have you Serial Number handy. Locate it from the "Apple Icon" drop down menu on the left and side of the upper title Bar and open up "About this Mac" and open up "more info" and then "Hardware".
They have the best support in the industry.
Meanwhile consider getting the Apple Care Add on package for the MB Pro. It extends this Hardware coverage for 3 years and provides free Apple Care Phone Tech support for that time.
I have had it on all my Macs which I have owned. The phone support is well worth it.

  • Help: macbook didn't charge, LED light is off!!!

My model is 2008 late 2.4GHz macbook and suddenly the magsafe LED light is off and can't charge the macbook. I took it to apple store, and after check they said this laptop needed to go further detection, which will cost at least $280 since i'm just out of my one-year warranty.
I found a similar problem post below without any clear resolution, and after reading it I found lots of these models had the similar problem, so i believe it is definitely the common problem for the 2008 late aluminum macbook series and the logic board might be broken. Does anybody else here have the same problem? We should unite and ask Apple to replace these defected laptop for us for free!!!
    The former post is here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1824683&start=0&tstart=0

    First try an SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Do you have (or can you borrow) a spare MagSafe you can try charging with (any MagSafe will do). If a different MagSafe successfully charges your MacBook, then you need to buy a new MagSafe for your machine, as yours is toast.
If a different MagSafe doesn't work, either, then the problem is likely hardware and you don't have much choice except to have Apple or another service center work on it. You can search for an authorized service provider here:
    http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service/
Often the non-Apple Store providers will work a little cheaper. Good luck!

  • My macbook air won't turn on and the led light on the cord doesn't light up

I can't get my macbook air to turn on and the cord light won't go on, either. It was not dead last night when I shut it down . . . any ideas?

    Hello srsymington,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
To troubleshoot this issue where your MacBook Air will not power on, I'd like you to please reset the SMC as directed below.
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • Is the battery dead, or do i need to replace the power cord??

was using the laptop and had the battery fully charged, also with the power cord plugged in. laptop then apparantly went into sleep mode (took battery out, battery did NOT have any charge according to the charge level) left plugged into the charger and went right back to where it was before sleep mode
so i put the battery back in and it at that time seemed to say was charging, but an hour later checked the charge level on the battery itself and still seemed to say had no charge...

Go to Applications/Utilities/System Profiler. Select "Power" from the list on the left, and then copy and paste here what it says about your battery.

  • Envy 15t j000 no lights, no power

My envy 15t won't power up and shows no LED lights at power cord connection.  I've tried the hard restart and still nothing.  I tested the AC power adapter with a multimeter and it is working.

    Hello @fisher329 ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your ENVY 15t does not power up.
If you have confirmed the adapter is functional you have an internal power problem. This could be the internal power connector or the motherboard.
For this you will need to contact HP Phone Support for service options. You can contact HP Technical Support at 1-800-474-6836 in North America. For all other regions click here.

  • I am having some problem with my battery, always at 99%, led light not work

    Hi,
I just purchased my macbook 2 weeks ago. The battery was perfectly fine on the first 2 week. After fully charge, led light turn from amber to green as what it suppose to be.
But since today, when I plug in my charger to my laptop, the led light wasn't on at all but based on the battery icon shown on mylaptop, it is charging slowly.
I tried to unplug the charger and replug it in again. It turns to green ( while the icon shown 60%) and 3 sec later, the light off again.
unplug-replug again, it turns to amber, a few sec the light turns off again. and it just keep on and off.
I am a bit confused. I rang up apple helpline, they suggested me to reset the PRAM which seems work.
restart my macbook. the charger turns to amber and charging till 99% and not turning green anymore.
    is that normal?

This is a quote from the page I bookmarked for you to read. "The System Management Controller is an integrated circuit (computer chip) that is on the logic board of the MacBook or MacBook Pro. As the name implies, it is responsible for power management of the computer. It controls backlighting, hard disk spin down, sleep and wake, some charging aspects, trackpad control, and some input/output as it relates to the computer sleeping."
The SMC used to be called the Power Managment Unit. I am surprised that apple did not have you reset this also.
If the battery fall below 96% it will start a charge cycle. Have you callibrated the battery.
It is hard to diagnose the problem till you try all the steps. Let us know how it turns out.

  • HP ProBook 4530s orange blinking led, won't recognise the power cord

    Hello!
yestarday I tried to open my laptop but it didn't start. i thought that maybe the battery was empty so i plugged the power cord, but nothing happened.
then I noticed the led near the power cord blinking orange. After a fast googling i came to this thread ( http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware/charging-light-blinking-problem-with-hp-probook-4530s... )
using the 8-step guide I managed to boot the laptop just to realise that it won't detect the power cord!
It was really strange, because when I noticed this, my battery was already at 2%!
I shut down the laptop, and tried to open it without the battery, it booted normally, but it still can't detect that the power cord is plugged in!!!!!
On the other thread some mentioned to update the bios, but in my case where it can't detect the power cord, that's impossible, because the procedure requires the laptop to be plugged in.
Now the laptop won't start normally, I have to keep the power button pressed for 40 secs and then plug the power cord. In addition it won't work only with battery, and that is my biggest problem!!
    What should I do now?

    Hello @sakisg4 ,
To get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since the HP ProBook 4530s is a commercial product. You can do this here Notebook - HP ProBook, EliteBook, Compaq, Slate/Tablet PC, Armada, LTE

  • Does the battery recall affect the power cord jack?

My computer battery is part of the recall. However in addition to the battery problem, the jack where the power cord plugs in is not working. I brought it to an authorized repair location and was told the "bronze wore off" and that the entire interior piece would have to be replaced. At a cost of approximately $500. since it is 2 years old. My question is this: could the faulty battery have affected the jack and therefore shouldnt this problem be covered under the recall?
    ibook g4   Mac OS X (10.0.x)

Absolutely. And if they give you a hassle about it at the apple store explain to them quietly that a policy which does not factor into account the damage caused by defective parts is a marketing strategy that is admonishing the proper use of a computer. Furthermore it relegates the status of a consumer to the level of non-interest in furthering the aim of the company.
Hows that? It's the best I could come up with but in light of the trouble with the SEC that this and other companies are facing this should be ample enough ammunition to accomplish the mission [but don't hassle with applecare take it to the store unless you have a warranty and in that case it would be covered].
