Battery on my 11 Months Old MBP - 93% Health / 17 Cycles
My MacBook Pro is about 11 months old, I have just did a full drain/charge cycle on the battery since I forgot to calibrate my battery for the last 5 months. I just looked up the battery health, it shows 93% health/17 Cycles.
Does this health percentage seem normal?
*"How exactly does the battery health detoriate? I've had my MBP for about a month or two, and it's at 98% health with 19 cycles. Does the battery just fizz out after long term use? How can you calibrate your battery? And, does battery health have to do with battery care or cleaning? - Originally posted by: mbpjunkie"*
I figured out how to calibrate the battery. Just have to charge it fully, unplug it from the wall, use it until the battery power runs out(or finishes one power cycle). Then shut down when it goes into sleep mode, reboot plug it back in and charge it fully again. This is the calibration process.
Now I just need my other questions to be answered.

Battery Problems in 4 month old MBP
I'm having terrible battery life on my 4 month old 2.3GHz 13" MBP. Is it covered under warranty? The battery has 136 cycles, and says it's 83% health. I've been getting maybe 3 hours on a charge, just doing email and basic tasks. Keyboard backlight is off, screen is about 3/4 brighness.
Are you running the Windows emulator software "Parallels." If so, see this article (with a patch) that deals with a Parallels background process causing the Mac OS Dock to damand a disproportionally huge portion of the processor cycles:
http://kb.parallels.com/en/111541
This can cause shortened battery runtime (you haven't experienced "short battery life" yet) in the range of 2-3 hours, increased heat, and overall sluggishness. -
when i open up computer the login screen comes up and then goes dark right away. can't do anything with it. close lid and open up and it comes up again and then goes dark. i have to shut off and restart to get through the login page. then seems to work untill i close lid again. just started this today. software is up to date. using a month old mbp 15. any suggestions? thanks.
You could try wiping the hard drive and reinstalling the OS and all your programs.
Did you install any programs yesterday?
If not it may be best to take it to an Apple care center and have it checked out. Take it in while it is asleep so you ccan show then what is happening. -

3 months old MBP & hard drive crashes - Does Apple really cares????
3 months old MBP hard drive simply crash and died on me, when sent to Apple centre the lady only concern is why didn't I purchase a apple care protection plan. Telling me other failures may result in costly replacement of parts and long lead time after warranty period. It seems to me Apple really cares is to make money and more of it.
I have been using PCs all my life, when the whole world was trying to stop me from getting a MAC. I went ahead believing that Apple have taken steps to improve their product. All my previous laptops works perfertly fine for at least 3 years. My reasoning is MBP cannot be such a lousy product that cannot last that long. Or is Apple confirming the truth that their MACs will not last their users anything more than 1 year thus encouraging users to buy additonal warranty.
The question is "Is Apple product so unreliable that we have to buy additional protection plan from day 1"
I hope some one can give me some answers, it is not about the money but the data that stores inside that has become too damaging for my business."Is Apple product so unreliable that we have to buy additional protection plan from day 1"
By no means. Don't take some salesperson's attempt to push AppleCare on you as any indication other than her personal opinion. Sometimes things break. It's unfortunate, but it happens. If things didn't fail, we wouldn't need warranties at all. And with electronic devices it's more likely to happen early in their life than it would be later. I might point out that Apple buys hard drives from the same companies that every other computer manufacturer does, so the hard drives have exactly the same chance of failure in a Mac as they would have in any other computer. And you have a one-year warranty on your computer so having the extended warranty at this point is irrelevant.
s Apple confirming the truth that their MACs will not last their users anything more than 1 year thus encouraging users to buy additonal warranty.
No more than any other company that sells an extended warranty for their product is saying that. If you want to purchase an extended warranty, it's up to you. The majority of computer owners, for almost any brand, never have need for a warranty at all, much less an extended warranty. But out-of-warranty repairs can be expensive enough - and again, this is true of any computer, particularly laptop computers where the components tend to be more expensive - that many people opt for extended warranties to ensure that for the duration of the extended warranty there will be no unexpected failures and consequent costs. It's like buying fire insurance for your house; the likelihood that your house will catch fire is small, but the cost involved if you don't have insurance is so great that I'd wager you do indeed have fire insurance if you own a house.
it is not about the money but the data that stores inside that has become too damaging for my business.
That's why you make backups. Any hard drive can fail. Or your laptop might get lost or stolen which would of course not be Apple's fault nor the fault of any of their component suppliers.

Buying 8 month old MBP, can I transfer registration and buy Applecare?
Buying an 8 month old MBP, can I transfer owner registration and buy Applecare?
I've always understood that the original owner can transfer ownership, but the buyer cannot initiate that process.
Call an Apple store and ask them about the process - used to be the seller sent in a letter with serial number of equipment and statement of transfer of ownership, signed by both parties. Then the equipment and remaining warranty were yours, and yes, you could add AppleCare if within the original one year warranty.
They may have a way to do it online now, but just call a store and ask one of the reps there about exactly how to do it. -
The case of my 7 month old mpb has started to get very hot within 2 or 3 minutes of switching it on. Is this normal and is there anything I can do?
The heat generated by the system is directly related to the load put on the system and the speed of the fans.
The former (high CPU load) generates heat, the latter (fan speed) dissipates it.
If your machine is getting hot then either some process is consuming lots of CPU power, causing more heat to be generated, or your fans are not working properly to dissipate whatever heat is being generated.
So the first question is whether your fans speeds kick into high gear or not? if they don't then it could indicate a hardware problem, either with broken fans, or with broken temperature sensors that control the fan speed.
If the fans do come on but the system is still getting hot then I'd look for a software issue - some process that's running rampant. It should be easy to spot with something like /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor. There should be a lot of processes listed, but most should use just a few percentage points of CPU power. If any process is using a lot of CPU power then it warrants some investigation - what is that process? should it be running? Is it failing in some way. Post the results of your Activity Montor report and I'm sure someone can chime in. -
20 month old MBP with only 80% battery capacity
Been noticing my 09 alu uni body 13" MBP now has a battery capacity of just 80%, according to Coconut Battery. I realise this app might not be too accurate, but I only checked it as I've been noticing a reduction in battery life recently.
I've been using MB's for years and employ all the usual good practices, I also regularly recalibrate the battery, although I understand these new non-replaceable models don't require it, nonetheless, it can do no harm.
My question is, is such a reduction in the batteries capacity normal on this machine after just 20 months use?
BTW- The use consists of running on mains at work during working hours, resting over night during the week, use on battery/mains at home at the weekend. According to Coconut the battery has had 348 cycles. Again, no idea how accurate this app is!
I have 3 years cover on the machine, so it it's deemed this is not usual I can pay the Apple store a visit, but I'd be interested in the views of other users whether this is normal or not.
Thanks. If you think that's necessary. But losing 20% capacity in almost 2 years is pretty good for any battery. It's just that we can monitor it more accurately now.
You can get your current capacity vs design capacity via Terminal without coconut:
ioreg -l | grep Capacity
^that's a -L and then a | -
When playing, I noticed that the charger is not charging enough to sustain both the running the computer and charge the battery at the same time, hence the battery drops very slowly.
Is that a common problem or is there a fix for that? Or there is something wrong with the charger?
Thank you!
RonaldThe program taxes the MBP more than the charger can keep up. Take a break every once and a while. I assume everything is fine if you're not playing this game?

17 Month old MBP crashes?
It has happened twice now. The first time it reset the date to 2001 and no other issues were visible to me. 2 days later it crashed again with a full battery but the date did not change this time. I have been worried about my usage since in 15 months my battery cycles are at 505 and its says condition: replace now. What is going on?
Have you considered taking the computer to a service provider, so they can take a look at your battery?
When it crashed, what were you doing on the computer? was the battery full or low?
And when you say crashed, what dose that mean? did the computer just turn off without warning? Or did it display a bunch of white text on black background? Did it just reboot without warning? Did the screen, drop down like a curtain, and then display a bunch of text in different languages? Or did the screen turn into a jumble of scrambled video? -
Ipod touch crashes. Battery ok. 3 months old.
This has happened to me twice. Once while listening to music and watching pictures another while listening to music and running Safari. The ipod just crashed. I could not get it to restart. The screen with the apple symbol was dim. After a few minutes it restarted. Today it crashed but restarted immediately. The battery shows about 1/2 charge.
Is mine defective? Is this a common problem?
DennisMine happened to start doing this after the 1.1.2 upgrade. An ep of "30 Rock" crashed the Touch and showed the silver apple logo. Haven't had the problem since I used the restore feature in iTunes to wipe the Touch clean and put 1.1.2 on it freshly.
I'm always leery of operating systems that install on top of themselves. When 1.1.3 comes out I'll probably do another restore, not risk it. -
Covered under warranty? 1 month old MBP, lid slighty not closed on one side
Is this covered?
Seems a bit odd.
Thanks.
What would you do?Why don't you contact AppleCare and ask? Any opinion you get here really comes to naught as only Apple can do anything under warranty.

One month old MBP Retina - have crashed five times
Hey. I'm new to mac OSX and I've never owned a mac before. I decided to buy the new Macbook Pro retina (base model). It have crashed five times since I bought it, which kindof defeats the purpose of me buying a mac in the first place. It CANT crash, since I use it for music production and when I DJ live.
Should I link the crash report when it crashes the next time? I've sent the crash to apple, but if it's simular to "Send to Microsoft", I don't expect any help.
What do you think I should do? Reinstall mac OSX could help, or do you think an upgrade to Mountain lion may help? If I should reinstall mac OSX, how do I do? It's not like I installation disc, nor DVD reader.
Best regards Jack Hellberg.
PS. Sorry for poor english. Thanks for the quick answer. I think this is the crash report:
