Battery on way out? Reputable UK supplier?

A few weeks back my PB just went black and dead on me without any low battery warning. Connecting to mains was necessary to restart when battery level was shown as 0%. It had been quite low when I started using it that session but I had not been keeping an eye on the level. At the time I was in a rush and didn't pay much attention but did check System Profiler quickly and noted that the full charge capacity was well down from its previous level of about 4300mAh. Next time I checked it was back to 4300.
Today I noticed that the battery level had dropped much faster than I would have expected and System Profiler showed full charge capacity of 2697 (which went up to 2800 after I had the battery out to check its part number).
The battery is four years old and was likely to be fresh at that time as it was a replacement for one of the exploding batteries in 2006. Cycle count is 74 so you will gather the PB has not been heavily used on battery.
I'm assuming this indicates the battery is on its way out. That leads to two questions.
Is there any reason not to run the Mac on mains with a battery in this condition?
Can anyone suggest a reputable UK supplier of a reliable A1148 battery? Googling throws up prices from £30 to £70, most with one year warranty but some with three years.

I just bought 2 Lumia 822s (Verizon) for myself and my wife. We live in New York City. The City Lens app, and related Here! apps, are all way out of date. The list of restaurants in our neighborhood contains some that closed years ago. In one case, there are three restaurants listed for the same location, and they were all once there, just not at the same time. Right now only one of the three is in operation. Other restaurants nearby are not listed at all. Not only that, but the app on my wife's phone is bringing up some different restaurants than the app on my phone. The list goes on. Is anyone at Nokia, or the app supplier, in charge of keeping this information up to date? It is pretty useless when so many listings are wrong. I don't know if this is peculiar to the 822 or applies across all platforms. I suspect it is the app(s).

Have you already activated the iPad? That is what the screen is telling you to do - connect to the computer with the supplied cable and run iTunes while connected - and iTunes should guide you through the set up process. If you have already set up the iPad and you are still getting thos screen message - restore your iPad. You must be running iTunes 10.5 on your computer as well.

I suppose this applies to all laptops, but since I have my T400 connected to the power supply almost exclusively, should I leave the battery in or out?
In other words, is the battery aging faster because it's in a constant state of charging (In) or would it last longer if I removed it while the computer connected to the power supply?

leaving the battery in won't hurt it, if you don't use your battery that much keep the battery at around 40 to 60 %. So go into your thinkvantage power manager under battery maintenance. Set the minimal charge level to around say 20% and maximum charge level at 40 to 60%.
Now unplug your AC power, then run the battery to around 60%, then replug back your AC power. This should maximise your battery life.
Also, if you use the 65 watt adapter, the laptop would speed throttle (CPU speed will be capped) if you don't have the battery plugged in.

Battery Frequently Falls Out

My girlfriend's 12" iBook G4 (1.2ghz) has a problem that I haven't encountered before. The battery falls out often. She doesn't have two batteries, and there is no reason for her to ever unlock the battery latch, but somehow it unlocks itself and falls out at the most inopportune time....
Anyone else have this problem?
The only fix I can think of is taping the battery in, but I wish there is another solution.

I also suffer from this problem with my G4 iBook. I know that it is not something I am doing wrong, as I have owned (and still do) a G3 iBook and the battery never falls out.
I've had my iBook for 6 months now and the battery falls out at least every 3 weeks with regular use. The battery lock is much looser than on my G3, so even though I make sure I twist it the whole way to 'lock' it still seems to gradually work it's way back to 'unlock' - and the battery comes crashing out.
I took it in to the Apple Store in Chicago and they looked at me like I was crazy. They also told me "Aesthetics aren't covered under warranty" - which made me wonder if the kid even knew what that word mades. They totally dismissed me and said I'd have to replicate the problem in-store (which is impossible as the loosening of the battery occurs over a week or two of regular use).
He also then exlpained how I needed to turn the lock all the way to the "lock" symbol. This annoyed me even more, as I felt like I was being treated like an idiot. If I can operate a mac for 15 years, I'm sure I can understand how to interpret the battery lock symbols and their function.
I don't know what to do now?

I bought my 15" macbook pro just a year ago and my battery life runs out extremely quickly. This started maybe a month or two ago. Its hard to tell. I only noticed the rapid change recently. Fully charged it says I have 2:27 (2 hours and 27 minutes) of usage time...with about 50% screen and keyboard brightness.
I've checked inside system preferences and its cycle count is 261 and full charging cap is 6316.
I have apple care...is this something i can/need to take up with apple. You'd think if you pay the price for these machines you should get mroe use out of them.

do you have a mbp with dual video cards? running the system with the higher end card increases the heat and also drains batt power.
i have the 1st gen unibody (2008) with an original removable battery of 311 cycles and 4453 charge. under normal use ill be happy to get 1.5hrs. the mac battery counter thing says i have 3.3hrs though (whatever). compared to me, i think you use your battery more than i do, perhaps its the reason why it degraded so fast in a year?

Macbook pro 10.6.8 FREEZING SCREEN and no way out of it

I had a crash and managed to recover with the OS X 10.6 DVD loaded onto a external hard drive
but now my lap top works a while and then just freeze on me and the only way out is to hold down the power button and that has to be bad getting worse?

If no malware was found, make sure there's enough free disk disk space.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your desktop or open the Finder, right or control click startup disk in the Sidebar on the left then click Get Info.
You'll see Available and Capacity. Make sure there's at least 15% available disk space.
If disk space is not an issue. the startup disk may need repairing.
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If DU reports errors, start up from your install disc while holding down the C key. From there you can repair the disk and reinstall OS X.

With a single user license, you can install Acrobat on maximum two computers, say, your laptop at work and desktop at office.
But, you cannot use Acrobat on both the machines simultaneously.
You will first need to deactivate Acrobat from the old machine, then install and activate the software on the new OS with the same serial key.

Sometimes when panning with the hand tool, it zooms way out instead of just moving the canvas

So normally when you hold the space key and drag, it just moves the canvas, but every now and then, seemingly randomly, it zooms way out and shows a little box which is the size and shape of the area of canvas I was previously looking at. If I move the box and let go of space, it zooms to that location, but all I wanted was to move normally. I don't think I've ever wanted the zoom out, move, then zoom back in behavior. What causes that? How do I make it stop?

Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything... and you must continue with the Recovery...

As stated, Firefox screen is blurry and unreadable (as if way out of focus). One day, it worked; the next, it did not. Not sure if there was an upgrade as I did not request or accept one. All I know is Firefox is unusable and I've had to switch to another browser just to get online. You cannot do anything in Firefox because everything is illegible.
