Battery, photos, and "charge complete."

My pod isn't a year old (I guess it is fifth generation). This weekend I loaded some photos on it. Now, all of a sudden it is not holding a charge for an hour. I was not having any battery issues prior to this. Moreover, I no longer get a "charge complete" message at the top of my display. Many thanks for anyone who can offer advice.

Maybe the iPod is not charging all the way. Maybe let it charge for a day or two and see what happens.

It's clear that the battery has got enough capacity to work correctly, so something happens with the MagSafe port or its charger. If you have another charger, try it, and if not, take the MacBook and the charger to an Apple Store or reseller. It's better to do this as we don't know if the problem is in the charger or in the MacBook Pro

  • HP Pavilion battery healthy and charged but laptop is not running on battery

A serious and odd problem has developed with my Pavilion (HP 15-N096EA PC)
I removed the battery when the machine was switched off and pressed the start button as this procedure was suggested on a site for clearing malware issues.
Since then, my laptop has refused to run on battery. Behaves as if there was no battery in it. The Pavilion is relatively new, the battery is in perfect condition, charges to 100% and keeps the machine running for up to 6-8 (!) hours. Not kidding.
Even now, the mains connection charges the battery, the little icon says so in the system tray. It is now 100% charged.
But when I unplug the mains adaptor the whole thing dies immediately.
I applied electric contact cleaning liquid to the connection ends of the battery, even measured the voltage in the battery with the tipped ends of a volt meter. All reading perfect values, yet the computer has stopped working from battery.
An hour ago this computer worked completely well on battery, but since the current "draining" exercise absolutely nothing. Tried all sorts of options: Taking battery in and out while on mains, nothing doing. If I am correct, battery calibration can only happen with the computer running on battery and this computer refuses to run on any battery.
What has happened here please? ANY HINT,ADVICE, SUGGESTION from professionals, non-professionals most desired and appreciated. Thanks.

  • New battery does not charge completely

Hi, I recently purchased a third-party battery that worked fine for the first few times and then started to act up. It will charge for about 5% and then the charger LEDs turn green, and I have to manually pull the battery out of the computer, and put it back in before it will continue to charge another 5%. I can completely charge the battery in this manner, but I have to sit by the computer for 2 hours until it finally is completed. The original Apple battery still charges just fine. Is there a way to calibrate the battery? I have reset the PMU, and tried everything else that I can think of. I called the battery's manufacturer, and they said to run the "Battery Configuration Wizard." Sounds like Windows to me! They told me that it was my computer, not the battery. I'm not sure what else to try.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi there, Robert!
Actually, my battery was from www.mrbattery.com, and it was just a generic battery that is made in China... My guess is that the internals for these cheaper 3rd-party batteries are all from the same manufacturer...
We (My dad and I) did some more testing, and we both concluded that the actual circuit-board in the battery is messed up... There is nothing that I know of that can help this problem from the external side if things: i.e. charging/discharging. What I finally ended up doing, (since my original battery was really dead) was to carefully open up both batteries, and (dad did the soldering:-) unsolder the Apple "smart-board" and resolder it into the 3rd-party one. (after unsoldering the original board in that battery, of course.) You'll have to transfer the actual battery cells to the Apple-style case, because on mine, the buttons and charge LEDs were different, and all that is on the board. I hope all this makes sense!!! You'll also have to be very careful of the circuit board when cutting the case open, as it is right up against the outer plastic.
If you would like, I can send you some detailed instructions of our procedure...
    Hope some of this helps!!!

  • Battery Calibration and Charge Capacity?

I am currently using a PB G4 15" (high res DL SD) and I've had it for about a month. I just read about calibrating the battery and went ahead and did it. Have I done any damage to the battery or shortened it's effectiveness by waiting a month to calibrate rather than when it was first out of the box?
Also, i also just read about checking the battery charge capacity using the system profiler. My charge capacity prior to calibration was 2731 and after calibration it's 2930. However, it sounds like it should be in the 4400's based on the posts I've read. What do these numbers mean and do I have a faulty battery since it's so low?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Kevin --
Yeah, I'm not loving those numbers you posted either. I'd try performing the calibration procedure once or twice more to make sure that that battery capacity number doesn't change.
The other thing I would do if I were you is download Coconutbattery: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/27425
It's a free app available at versiontracker and it will tell you your battery's original capacity as well as it's current capacity.
I agree with you that a capacity of 2930 mAh after only a month of use and 16 cycles suggests that your battery is defective and should be replaced at no cost to you under the terms of the warranty.
For a frame of reference, after 10 months of use and 166 load cycles, my battery's original capacity of 4400 mAh is now 4228 mAh. No way yours should be in the 2930 mAh range.
When you call AppleCare to arrange for a replacement, if in fact that's what you end up needing to do, the agent you speak with, in addition to making sure that you've properly calibrated your battery a few times (as mentioned earlier) may also ask that you reset your PB's Power Management Unit (PMU). While I'm skeptical that a PMU reset will alter the outcome, you can find instructions on how to reset the PMU here (just in case you need to): http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449
Good luck and please post back how everything turns out.

PS. You probably know this, but the calibration procedure has been changed slightly for your DL hi-res version of the PB. Here it is below, just to make sure:
    PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD)
The battery calibration for the PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD) has been updated because of a new battery released with this computer. With these computers, follow these steps to calibrate your battery:
Plug in the power adapter and fully charge your PowerBook's battery until the light ring on the power adapter plug changes to green and the onscreen meter in the menu bar indicates that the battery is fully charged.
Allow the battery to rest in the fully charged state for at least two hours. You may use your computer during this time as long as the adapter is plugged in.
Disconnect the power adapter with the computer still on and start running the computer off battery power. You may use your computer during this time. When your battery gets low, you will see the low battery warning dialog on the screen.
Continue to keep your computer on until it goes to sleep. Save all your work and close all applications when the battery gets very low, before the computer goes to sleep.
Turn off the computer or allow it to sleep for five hours or more.
Connect the power adapter and leave it connected until the battery is fully charged again.
Tip: When the battery reaches "empty", the computer is forced into sleep mode. The battery actually keeps back a reserve beyond "empty", to maintain the computer in sleep for a period of time. Once the battery is truly exhausted, the computer is forced to shut down. At this point, with the safe sleep function introduced in the PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD) computers, the computer's memory contents have been saved to the hard drive. When power is restored, the computer returns itself to its pre-sleep state using the safe sleep image on the hard drive.

  • Why, after ios7 update, the battery doesn't charge completely

With ios 6 my iphone 5 used to charge completely in 3-4 hours. With ios 7, even over night, it charges till 60-70% or less.
If i power off the iphone, it charges fully.
I also get a message regarding a non original cable when pulluging to the wall AC when i'm using the only cable i've got- the original one.
Am i the only one with these problems ???

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • HT4060 ipad does not seem to be charge.  has been plugged in for about 5 hours and low battery photo remains...cannot turn on or off... only low battery photo and apple symbol or blank page appear

ipad does not seem to be charging.  Has been plugged in for about 5 hours and low battery icon remains same...alternates with apple symbol or blank page.  cannot turn ipad on or off

The iPod Touch kept trying to reboot yesterday but would only show the Apple logo screen then shut off - it finally drained the battery overnight I am guessing. Connected to USB the battery charging icon flashes.
Took it back to Best Buy, but they wouldn't touch it or replace it since it's under warranty.
To any potential buyers - beware. My best advice is to look somewhere besides Apple. Every Mac user I know has had to return a Mac, laptop, etc. Really poor quality control, and the retailers agree (Geek Squad told me they have had the same experience with Apple products).

  • BATTERY INDICATOR AND CHARGING QUERY

    Hi,
Can you please help me regarding my question on when will i know when my Xperia Z1 is already fully charged.
Does the lightning bolt indicator needed to disappear to identify if it is already fully charged?
also i'm having a lot of time charging my phone. i just bought it less than a week from now.
    Thanks.

If you don't use any feature disable it. Here some tips...
If you have enable WCDMA or LTE mode you can switch to GSM only because the signal is better and there is a limited coverage for 3G, 4G, H+  networks (depending on your area) and your phone use more power to search that kind of networks, If you don't use mobile data often you can switch  from WCDMA to GSM only. (A little compromise between internet speed and battery life)
I disable WIFI, Bluetooth, Location services, set Keep WIFI on during sleep to "never" , Scanning always available off, stamina always on. I also try to keep off background services like auto sync. I don't like wasting battery power with automatic synchronisations I'll  manually sync accounts when i need it.
If you need to know where are  any option you can ask here..

  • Start up requires PMU reset if battery dies and charger is attached.

I use my PowerBook sometimes without the charger attached in class or just around the house until the computer gets to the point of putting itself to sleep because the battery has no more charge. I attach the charger and it has the amber charging glow but I cannot restart the computer unless I reset the PMU which fixes the problem right away. Is this a problem, should I be concerned with resetting the PMU so often? Is there anyway to fix such a problem, does it have something to do with the battery's age, over 350 cycles? Its more of a nuisance than anything, but if there is a greater problem that will rear its head soon, I would like to know about it, such as a logic board issue. If anyone could give some insight, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank You
    Nick

We are having exactly the exact same problems with our G4, 2-yr old, Power Book. It won't start and the USB ports don't work, But so far the only way we can start it (on occasion) is to remove the battery, place computer in the refrigerator for at least 10 minutes, remove, reset the PRM, replace the battery, and then start. This is very inconvenient, and quite frankly its taken hours of work getting it from a total no start mode to the start mode with the technique mentioned above. Judging from the discussion board this is not uncommon. If anyone can shed some light on this issue we would really appreciate it. Thanks so much!

  • Battery Capacity And Charging

My MBP's battery has an original battery capacity of 6300mAh.
When fully charged its capacity is at just under 6800mAh.
I guess this would be considered overcharging; could this cause problems of any kind?

My replacement battery started with just under 6800 mAh, and over time drifted downward (which is normal) then stabilized (at around 91% health ±5%, where it's remained since about cycle 30). While it's above 6300 mAh, iStat and CoconutBattery will report health as 100%.
As Kappy stated, the 6300 mAh value (rounded up from 6296 mAh, actually) is a nominal value, calculated from the wattage and voltage specifications of the battery. Individual batteries will vary, with many initially exceeding that calculated value.
Bottom line, what you're seeing is normal and nothing to worry about.

  • Brand new MSI GE70 2OC battery won't charge

    Hi all
I have a rare issue related with the laptop power system of a brand new GE70 2OC: basically, the battery won't charge.
-In Windows 8, with the battery installed and charger connected to the laptop: the battery does not charge and drains.
-If I boot with a linux live cd, exactly the same happens: there's no charging, and the battery is draining.
And here we go with the mess...:
-If I start windows8 only with the charger connected (battery removed), the computer turns on properly, windows start booting, but before showing the home screen, the laptop turns off. As if power were suddenly removed.
-If I start the same way (only with charger, battery removed), and entered the bios, I can stay here forever: laptop doesn't turn off until I wan't.
-If I start the same way (only with charger, battery removed) with a linux live cd, I can work without problems every time I wan't
It's very strange... If the battery is not dead, I think may be some kind of BIOS or firmware issue, because the failure of "battery not charging" appears in any situation (turned off, in bios, in windows, in linux).
The charger is not broken. It runs smoothly without battery in bios and linux.
I tried a EC Reset. Nothing happens... ¿Any idea?

    Thank you both
I'm still in the 7 days money back guarantee from the seller. I've contacted the shop, but still expecting for news.

  • The battery isn't charging

    Hi,
    I have a Probook 4535s with Windows 7 installed.
My battery stopped charging. The computer doesn't recognize that AC is plugged in when the battery is inserted. I tried to reinstall battery drivers and also ran a Battery Check, which said that the battery was ok, but I had to plug the charger in for more precise results.
When I take the battery out, the notebook turns on and works fine.

    Hi,
    I have two recommendations:
    1) Go to a command line with admin priveleges. Type in  sfc \scannow and press enter to let the sfc utility run.  SFC is the Window 7 system file checker.  The Window 7 system file checker will  inspect all system files and replace files it deems to be corrupt or otherwise damaged with a fresh copy from the operating system's own file repository. There does exist the possibility that one or more of your operating system's system files is corrupt and is preventing the Battery control and charging methods to not work properly.
    2) Update the BIOS to the current version. There have been quite a few enhancements made to correct issues that have to do with the battery and external power. Here is a link to the web support portal for your notebook.
Please post your  negative or positive results in your thread.
