Battery powers down with use while charging

Battery takes hours to charge but powers down if pluggwed in

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. In rare instances when using the Camera Connection Kit, you may notice that iPad does not charge after using the Camera Connection Kit. Disconnecting and reconnecting the iPad from the charger will resolve this issue.

    1. Check the cycle count of the battery against the rated life for your model. The battery may be due for replacement. If the power adapter is connected almost all the time, the battery may need replacing even though the cycle count is not too high.
    2. Follow these instructions, or these for OS X 10.8 or earlier.
    3. In the Energy Saver preference pane, uncheck the box marked
Enable Power Nap while on battery power
if it's shown (it may not be.)
    4. You can also try resetting the SMC.
    5. Make sure your system is up to date in Software Update.
    6. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

Try Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
If that doesn't help, try Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
If neither helped, boot from your install disc, run Disk Utillity. The startup disk may need repairing.

Please find "System Information" in this folder path---Applications > Utilities---and launch it. When it opens, find "Power" in the left-hand contents pane and click it to get something like this in teh main pane:
Copy everything in the "Battery Information" and copy/paste it here. The number values in that report may help us diagnose what is happening.
Also, did you buy this battery directly from Apple or from another source. There are an increasing number of reports showing up that suggests some counterfeit batteries being sold.

  • Ipad battery goes DOWN as I am charging while Uong safari and iBooks

I am outside in bright sunlight and my ipad is about to run out of battery. With my ipad charger and an extension cord I charge my ipad but the battery actually goes DOWN as I am using it. I do have max brightness because i am outside, but is this supposed to happen? Is there a way to fix this? All I am doing is using iBooks and safari.

    More information:
I'm using the included original apple charger.
    I have the ipad 3.

  • Sync with iCloud while charging crashes WiFi

When i try to sync to iCloud while charging my iPhone 5 my WiFi goes down, not the phone but the router. After restarting the router it works again. Syncing manually while running phone on battery and wifi everyting works fine. Anyone else got this problem? Discoverd this because phone hadn't made any nightly backups for two weeks. Thats when i installed iOS 8.

Gee, why didn't I think of that?  For those that may be keeping track this is a dlink Dir-655 (ON LATEST FIRMWARE).
I had no problems with my iPhone 5.  I have no problems with my iPhone 6 EXCEPT when I let the phone attempt a full iCloud backup.  I don't know what encryption or protocol this fires up but whatever it is it crashes the router.  I am hoping others with router crashing can benefit. The seemingly random crashing some have may be when the phone attempts a backup.
Because i use I jumped phones and iOS versions at the same time I don't know for sure which is to blame but I suspect it is the iOS creating malformed packets. My router wont packet capture and I don't have $2000 for a wifi N capture adapter. So there is not much more troubleshooting I can do.
MY Apple fanboy co-workers have airports and don't have iphone connectivity issues. so maybe routers do need to catch up with some wonky thing Apple is doing. I am not against buying a new router if I knew it would fix the issue but I don't have spare cash to spend right now just to make the attempt. If a new router doesn't help I will have spent money for nothing on a non-returnable item.

  • My iPhone 5 shuts down with a 10% charge remaining, is there a fix?

After my recent software upgrade my iPhone 5 shuts down with 10% charge remaining. This has never happened before. Is there a fix?

The battery gauge probably needs to be recalibrated. It "thinks" there is more charge in the battery than the battery thinks there is.
When it shuts off charge for just a minute or two, then restart (hold HOME and SLEEP until an Apple logo appears). Deliberately run the battery down until the phone shuts off at 1%. If it shuts off above 1% repeat the above until you get to 1%. Then charge for 4 hours with the wall adapter without using the phone. This process will recalibrate the battery gauge.
To prevent this from happening again about once a month run the battery all the way down to 1%, then continue until the phone shuts off. Apple recommends this in their battery help article, but they don't say why you should do it. The have some hokum about "keeping the electrons moving." Honestly! The iPad battery tip gives the correct reason.

  • KT2 Combo beeps and then powers down with XP2400

Hi all I could really use some advice here.
I bought an XP2400 Tbred cpu for this system and it never worked. I ended up returning it since it I think it was DOA. But I wanted to confirm it. The 1GHz Duron I have in it runs perfectly.
This system has a 100/133MHz jumper so when I installed the XP2400 I first removed the old 1GHz Duron, I then cleared the bios and set the jumper to 133 and then turned it on. Upon booting up it beeped 2 times VERY quickly and then shut down. One normal beep and one quiet beep you could barely hear but was there. No matter what I tried that's all it would do.
    I have an Antec SL350 which does 35 on +5 16 on +12 and 28 on +3.
    http://www.antec.com/specs/sl350_spe.html
    With only the cpu
2 sticks of 256MB PC133(I tried a single working DDR2100 stick as well)
    NO drives connected
and an old PCI video card( I started with my FX5200 but went PCI to test)
I know the mobo supports up to 2600+ 266MHz bus but with the XP2400 it just turned on, never POSTED, beeped and then turned off. My other system, a K7TPro2, is chock full of gear and an XP2000 runs fine with a lesser supply.
Was the xp2400 DOA or is there something amiss in my system? Ie does anyone know what those two short beeps were. If my Power supply is indeed weak what should I go with? A Xp2100? Many thanks for any help here as I need to order a new cpu but I'm afraid I'll run into the same problem if i order another 2400.

Wow, thanks for all the quick responses.
Dr Stu, No ,100MHz made no difference and my K7TPro2(not A) would not support it. I have nowhere else to test it so I RMA'd it.
osnavi, as others pointed out its actually a decent power supply. I've seen plently of reports of people running this class and faster CPU on my Power supply, especially considering I stripped the board when I was trying it out. It is of course possible that my Antec has bad CAPS or is dying, but nothing else points to that.
Grayone, nice link. Your right, too bad it never stayed powered up long enough. At best it was one clear beep and part of a 2nd one, but that was it. It powered down within a few seconds every time I turned it on.
My main concern is which cpu to buy. Since this is my HTPC and its running Windows Media Center 2005 I wanted to get the fastest CPU possible. That's why a XP2400 seemed perfect. Now I guess I need to see if I can find an old XP2100 so at least I can cross test it in my other motherboard.
Still though, its always going to bother me that I'll never know if it was my motherboard or the actual CPU that was the problem. Thanks again.

  • How do I COMPLETELY power down iPhone 3G while charging?

I charge the iPhone 3G by plugging it into a wall outlet and leaving it overnight. I thought I can completely shut it down by holding down the power button, then doing the "slide to power off" maneuver, and the screen goes black. However, at seemingly arbitrary times the screen lights up with (usually) the main App screen. If I haven't turned the sound off, it will also beep. Note that I do not have any alarms set for the clock, iCal, or To-Do's that might account for it waking up. Besides, if the device is powered down, no alarm should wake it up, right?

It sounds like it is not powering off for some reason. When it is off, nothing should activate the phone until you power it back on.

  • Use while charging hurt batteries?

Will using my iPhone 3g while charging damage the battery or shorten the battery life in any way or even make the battery gauge inaccurate?
Also, if I use it while charging does it use power from the battery or does it use power straight from the charging source (ie. electric socket or USB port).
    Thanks.

    Just posted on this.
If its just like a laptop, you would want it plug in when near a plug, same as a laptop.
Full charge to drain = 1 Cycle (laptop) same for iPhone, so, when near a charger, plug it in.
*RIGHT EVERYONE?* At least that's what I am understanding.

  • Ipod mini- 3/4 battery shutting down with "no battery power remaining"

After fully charging my ipod mini, while it still has 3/4 battery on the battery meter in the corner will shut itself down due to "no battery power remaining" if i push the NEXT button too many times in a row. This is a consistant problem and always happens when i have a half battery power or more. I do keep it in Shuffle mode, and i am fully aware that will drain the battery quicker, however there should be no reason a freshly charged ipod with 3/4 battery should not be able to shuffle a few songs without shutting down. Has anyone else ever had this problem or knows of any solution for fixing it? Any help would be appreciated!!

my ipod is doing the same thing...except when I turn it on it will say i have 3/4 battery for only about 10 seconds, then it turns off. All the other forums I have read say to get the battery replaced, but Apple can and usually does send a faulty battery so it might be time for a new ipod.

  • Use while charging

Is it ok to continue using my iPad while plugged in after it reaches 100%. In other words can I use it with power cord even though it is fully charged. Thank you.

    Yes, it's perfectly OK.

  • New P-book: OK to use while charging for first time?

    Hi All,
I'm getting my Powerbook today. Can I plug it in and set it all up while it's charging, or SHOULD I wait until it's fully charged? Thanks in advance for anyone's help.
    -Mike

No, this will not do any damage. The thing you should do though is after that first charge is complete, go ahead and drain down to zero percent, so that it will be calibrated.
People who leave the battery charged in all the time while using the computer, do not have the battery go bad because they are using it plugged in. The reason it goes bad in that situation is because they aren't keeping the juices flowing in the battery! They don't take it off the A/C, the chemicals don't keep moving, so that shortens the life. That is why you should use a portable, not connected to A/C at least one or two times per week to at least 70 percent (use 25 to 30 percent of battery) or so.
However, the actual using of the machine while connected to A/c is no problem. Just be sure to regularly use it via battery too, to keep the chemicals moving.

  • Static elictricity on MacBook Pro Retina's body disrupts use while charging, any way to ground it?

Hi, I have this old MacBook Pro Retina I got a couple years ago, and part of its original charging kit's wires gave up right next to the MagSafe2 plug, so I purchased a new power adapter, and it appears to not be grounded at all.
When the notebook is charging, static on its metal body is so strong it completely disrupts any work. I cannot use trackpad almost at all, it won't register taps and the coursor is jumping all over the screen even if I don't move my finger at all. To use the notebook I have to keep one of my palms on the metal part of it, and even then after a while my fingers get a little burned on the trackpad, which is inconvenient to say the least.
Anyone have any ideas, how can I can fix this or at least reduce the effects?
I'm in Russia, it's 220v here, power outlets with 2 plugs (no 3rd metal one for grounding).
I've read a bunch of articles about grounding outlets, but they all suggest to bury a metal cable into some soil, which is not possible as I live on 21st floor.
I figured it's the new power adapter's fault, because the old one doesn't act up like that (but I am reluctant to keep using it because its inner metal wiring in places is not covered by plastic anymore, and I fear it might cause a short circuit or something).
When I purchased the new adapter, I was assured it's completely original, but now I suspect it might be a counterfeit, so I would just have purchased another new one, but kinda afraid it will not be original too and will cause the same problems.

It keeps the green light on for a while after I unplug it from the notebook. The scratched part is extension from the old adapter.

  • MBP shuts down with over 30% charge

Recently my mbp has just been shutting down without warning, even with a battery at over 30%. I try and reboot and it turns on, then shuts down right away. Once I plug it back into to a power supply its fine. I've had it for about two years, been through 223 cycles, and it says its in good condition.

When did you last properly calibrate your battery?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490
Calibration should be done approximately every two months. Failure to do so for a long period of time can result in the microchip "fuel gauge" in the battery losing the ability to accurately determine the remaining charge, and it will report that there is more charge in the battery than is actually present. As a result, the computer will not initiate Safe Sleep at the proper time, and instead undergo a hard shut down, one of the main causes of hard drive directory damage. Once the battery is in the state resulting from a failure to calibrate, it is not possible to calibrate the battery, and it will need to be replaced. Note that Apple specifies, +"A properly maintained Apple notebook battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 300 full charge and discharge cycles."+ Calibration is considered part of proper maintenance
