Battery-problem Magic Mouse

It is now happening again (second time). The magic mouse goes from 90% battery level to 19% during a day suddenly after about 2 months of use. What is happening?

I figured out the problem for my Magic Mouse. I collect high end LED Torches. I have a DMM, so I test batteries constantly. My first set of batteries lasted about 3 weeks. Replaced them with two energizer lithiums.
After about two weeks the mouse went from 100% to 26% in about 1 day. So, I tested the batteries. The left compartment battery was at 1.6. - 1.7 and up is brand new. The right compartment was .26. Light Bulb going off. Just replaced the right side battery. Two weeks later, batteries need replaced. The left was 1.5 the right .20
The Magic Mouse is defective in some units in my opinion. It is only using one side of the power source. I will be visiting a genius at the Apple Store in South Hills on Thursday.

    Hi,
the magic mouse is losing quite often the connexion with the MacAir and recovered it few seconds after. This is very desapointing to get such high class mouse and fac this. Any solution ?

There have been other reports of this issue from some people around the internet. At the moment the solution seems to take the mouse back to where you bought it and get it swapped for a new one.

  • Horrible Bluetooth Keyboard Battery Life - Since Magic Mouse?

I'm having a weird issue that is driving me nuts. I've noticed that over the past couple weeks I've had to replace the batteries in my Apple bluetooth keyboard several times because it is draining at a rate of about 18-20% a day, even when I'm not at home using it or using it much at all. I have the first version of the mini keyboard, the one that takes three batteries. I used to get great battery life and only had to replace them maybe once every few months so something is definitely wrong. The only thing that I can think of that has changed is that I went from the bluetooth Mighty Mouse to the Magic Mouse. As a result I had to install the update that came out to support it and then shortly after, 10.6.2.
I have tried all the typical stuff like removing both the keyboard and mouse from Bluetooth setup, doing fresh pairings, etc. Nothing has helped. At this point I've deleted the Magic Mouse and gone back to the Mighty Mouse to see if that makes a difference, but I already hate it and greatly prefer the Magic Mouse. I'm hoping that someone here has seen or had this issue before and can point me in another direction that helps.
    Thanks!

Perhaps inquire directly of Apple Care. Gizmodo's review (http://gizmodo.com/5386202/apple-magic-mouse-review ) relays a claim about the Magic Mouse battery life saying, "it's powered by two AA batteries, which get up to four months of use per charge, according to Apple."

  • Magic Mouse battery only lasts 30 days?

I bought my new 21" iMac back in October and today got a message from Magic Mouse that batteries need to be replaced.
What kind of battery life other folks are getting from MM? Is there anything can be done to increase battery life of MM?

    Hi Kenichi Watanabe:
Would seem some Apple reference reported the Magic Mouse batteries should last four months. I've only found items that report the reference (have not located the reference itself). Clips below are cross posted, but if you search the Internet for the terms ["Magic Mouse" four months] (without the brackets), you'll find a whole series of early reviews and comments containing the same reference to four month battery life.

  • Magic Mouse is acting worse every day

I got my new Magic Mouse a few weeks ago and it's been working great - for the first few days.
Now, it keeps getting worse and worse. The mouse sticks when I'm pointing at random, slows down for no apparent reason then speeds up, disconnects and reconnects every half hour, and overall is just becoming more and more useless.
This problem doesn't happen when I'm using a 2nd monitor. When I plug it in, the mouse becomes virtually unusable. Absolutely ridiculous. Is there a fix for this?

It might be one of the software that you might be using.
If you are using the so called "enhancement" software, like BetterTouchTools, it might interfere with some of the basic functions with Apple's built in pointer controls.
Also, could battery be issue. Some are reporting that Magic Mouse they bought are defective, since only one side of the battery works, (All Apple mouses are capable of running with just one battery, in order to save weight) I am having similar issues, and need to get my mouse replaced, but since I am 70 miles away from my nearest Apple Store (and living in college dorm, I have no time to get on my car, and drive 70 miles to my nearest store), the temporary solution is to get a mouse pad, and remember to shut off the mouse completely before calling it a night.
Finally, bluetooth? If you are using a Apple Bluetooth keyboard, there's a problem magic mouse draining the battery on keyboard fast, or keyboard draining the magic mouse battery fast. There's a software update that is supposedly fixes this issue.

  • Wireless Keyboard & Magic Mouse - Battery Power Reporting Problem

Problem Description: OS X Bluetooth Manager is constantly reporting that my 2009 Apple Wireless Keyboard has a low battery. For instance, Bluetooth Manager reports my Wireless Keyboard Battery Level is 18%. At the same time Bluetooth Manager reports my Mouse Battery Level is 65%. Because the Keyboard Battery Level is low I am being constantly nagged by the Bluetooth Manager about Battery Level and the possibility of the Keyboard disconnecting.
I decided to swap batteries between the keyboard and mouse as part of a test to see if there is a problem with the way the keyboard or mouse reports available battery power. Sure enough it appears there is a problem with battery power level reporting.
The batteries that were in the Wireless Keyboard, and that are now in the Magic Mous,e are now reported as having a Mouse Battery Level of 65%, compared to a Keyboard Battery Level of 18%. The batteries that were in the Magic Mouse, and that are now in the Wireless Keyboard, are now reported as having a Keyboard Battery Level of 18%, compared to a Mouse Battery Level of 65%.
Conclusion, either the Wireless Keyboard, or the Magic Mouse, or both devices are incorrectly reporting the Battery Power Level. It may also be that the OS X Bluetooth Manager is incorrectly reporting the battery level of one or both devices as well.
This needs Apple to investigate & fix the issue through updates to either the Magic Mouse, 2009 Wireless Keyboard or the OS X Bluetooth Stack.
I am using Duracell NiMH 1.2V 2000MAh "Stay Charged" Batteries (same as the Apple Store battery version)
I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.4 + Apple 2009 Wireless Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0 + Bluetooth 2.0.1. Firmware Update.
So Apple Support Techs... there is the challenge; are you up for investigating and fixing this problem??
    Cheers Pete

Thanks for the link David. I used the Community Forums because I've found in the past that Apple Support do monitor them and do pick up problems with Apple gear and pass the info back to their developers. Mostly I used the Community Forums because I just couldn't find the link you provided, so thanks again.
ps Apple & Macintosh are one in the same. My Apple Wireless Keyboard & Apple Magi Mouse are actually performing as per the descriptions in their respective user manuals, especially in terms of how they report battery state through their built in LED lights. So I deduced this as a problem with the Mac-mini Bluetooth Stack, so beleive it is appropriate to this forum.
I'm sure other users have noticed this, or similar problems, so perhaps they will add their experience of this issue to my original post. When I did a search of the Community Forums using the search term "Keyboard OR Mouse AND Battery" I found plenty of similar issues.
Thanks again for the link I'll chase Apple through that channel.

  • Problem with removing Magic Mouse battery cover (Its Stuck)

Well i just got a new Magic mouse for 1st time, cause i needed a mouse that doesn't have a usb lead which gets caught on edges or wrapped around other cables all the time for my Macbook Pro.
The problem with this mouse is tho, rest of it is great, but the battery cover latch, won't release the actual cover off, as i was checking what kind of batteries it had. Which from what i've seen on the forums here is completely opposite to the problem that everyone else has here of it NOT staying on, or being to loose.
Mine however is seemingly too TIGHT, or stuck on itself, and therefore won't come free.
Being that its a brand new mouse (Got it only just today in post 15 Jan 2013), i may not be pulling the latch right or it is actually stuck.
So i was womdering if anyone else had this problem, and has a solution? Cause even tho i won't be worried about the battery failing straight away. I will need to replace it at some point with new ones.
    Pls help, thx.

First turn the mouse off, using the tiny slide button below the green light.
Then sharply flick the small rectangular black button at the bottom of the plate downwards with your finger nail.   The plate should loosen and pop off.
To replace.   Line up the black button in its rectangular hole and press the plate at point of the circular hole where the sensor shows.
Turn on the mouse, check the green light is steady, then click the mouse twice to activate it.

  • I use an iMac (27" 3.4) and have problems with the Magic Mouse. It does not use contact, but opens useless and unrelated submenus with every click, even on the empty desktop. I can't shift, open or close pages. Has anyone out there the same problem?

I use an iMac 27" (mid 2011). Until recently I had OSX 10.6.8 installed, but both, the HDD and SSD had to be replaced, and I lost all the memory.
After the repair through Apple Care I had OSX 10.7.5. (Lion) installed, which developed a Magic Mouse problem.
Unlike with most users, I have no problems with connection, but grapple with a different kind of erratic behaviour.
All fancy stuff is turned off in the mouse preferences. When I try to move, open or close pages, unrelated submenus pop up and hinder the
required task. No matter how often I click, these menus stay there, and they even come up when clicking on the bare desktop.
It renders the mouse absolutely useless, as no work can be done with it.
The first 'Magic Mouse' had depleted batteries every few days, despite switching it off after use.
I was supplied a new Mouse, which does better battery-wise, but the problems are the same. I can't get a result by clicking on any link, due to
the pop-up menus, so both 'Magic Mice' are totally useless.
At present I am using the old USB mouse from my Mac Pro, and that works still o.k.
The problem are not the mice, but the software. The first 2 weeks after installation of OSX 10.7.5 the Magic Mouse worked though.
I have no idea as to what the reason may be.
Has anyone in the community ever experienced that particular problem. Any hint would be welcomed.
    Thank you!

Not using any mouse pad, I have a very smooth desktop. But I just tried to use a sheet of A4 printing paper, but no result, the problem persisted.
Someone on this forum suggested, that USB3 may interfere with the magic mouse.
I have 2 LaCie HDD's about 70 cm away from the mouse, I use them on Thunderbolt. But in operation or not - the result is the same, the mouse plays up! Just now I was clicking the desktop and the mouse created a new folder!!
    Thanks for the advice, Bee

  • Problem with magic mouse gestures in safari

    iMac 27", mid 2011
    16 GB 1333Mhz
Using OS X Yosemite, Safari, Magic Mouse
one day no problem at all, the next day, without any new installations:
Whenever I use the swipe gesture to go back to a previous page,
It does not work and I cannot scroll on this page anymore.
Shutting down Safari and restarting it works.
I read a lot about this, it seems to be a known problem.
I did not use terminal to use direct command for remedy, but tried everything else I read:
power own the mouse, taking battery out, switching off BT for Mouse, several restarts of the iMac etc.
    Nothing helps.
As I am so used to the gestures for a very long tome, it takes only seconds, before I swipe back-- and that´s it!
    I have to restart Safari.
I would be very thankful for your help!
    best,
    Fred

    Hi seventy one,
many thanks for your efforts to help me!!
but I just solved my problem doing the exact same as someone else did:

Re: Magic Mouse Scrolling Issuein response to Linc Davis
    Hi Linc
Thank you for the extremely detailed response.
I think I have the issue solved for the minute at least.
I not only disconnected every cable from the Mac, as I had previously done, I also disconnected every cable from my peripherals and powered down every peripheral as well, then re-wired my set-up. This seems to have solved the issue. Not sure of the technical reason that this would have fixed my problem, but it seems to have fixed the issue for the moment anyway.
So, my problem is solved too!!
    Many thanks

  • Magic Mouse tracking degrades with battery life?

Anyone else notice that the mouse tracking gets slower as the battery is drained?
It's hard to notice while using it, but when the batteries die and you change them for new ones, you can tell the difference.

Thanks for the info, though it seems my magic mouse is fixed, after i posted my problem here, i decided to let it rest till next mornig to see if whether it was definitively spoiled or it was an isolated event, so this mornig as soon as i was able to check it out i turned on my mac and it worked as good it allways did, no traces of the tracking problem i had a few hours before, though i checked the green light underneath and to my surprise it still acted as i described before. As soon as the lasser is covered the green led goes off but this time the tracking still worked as it should, so i think its something every magic mouse does in order to save battery and to extend this led light life. The truth is that i never paid attention to this behaviour before.
Long story short i think my magic mouse just went crazy for a bit, but now is fully recovered and functional.
I must quote that when i turned off my magic mouse to "let it rest" for the night, i took off it's batteries, i'm not sure if that helped me but it is worth the try.

  • Any Suggestions for reducing battery useage on the Magic Mouse?

Hello. I find that I seem to be changing batteries frequently on my wireless Apple Magic Mouse. Are there any suggestions to help with this, ie: would it help to shut the mouse off overnight or would the savings be minimal?
The Apple wireless keyboard is not a big user of battery power.
    Thanks for any tips.

Thanks den.thed. That discussion was LONG one! It did however cover a lot of areas and there did seem to be valid links indicating that Apple indicated the batteries would last up to 4 months. Someone indicated that it doesnt do any good to turn the mouse or keyboard off as they go into some type of auto sleep if not in use. I may try rechargeable batteries Nimh after these present alkalines run out. I have used Sanyo Eneloop in my camera after recommendations on a camera site and have found them extremely long lasting in the camera so that may also be the case in the mouse. They are only 2000 maH but are real performers.
The mouse problem isnt really a big one and I can live with it, but thought if I was doing something wrong, I could rectify it. Thanks for the links.

  • HT1365 Magic mouse connection problem

Hello, I have a problem with the magic mouse for my imac constantly connecting and loosing connection. Batteries are 100% and the keyboard stays connected no problem.
The computor is brand new. Any ideas people?

From scanning the forums, there seem to be two suggested approaches to fixing this.
Make sure your batteries fit tightly- the Apple rechargeables tend to fit OK, but some others can connect loosely. Try a folded piece of paper between the batteries and under the battery door to hold them snugly in place.
Remove any possible sources of interference in the 2.4Ghz band- Move your DECT phone further away. Switch to 5GHz wifi for the macbook and phones or ipad if you can. If needs be, turn off possible sources of interference in this frequency range in your location one by one until you can isolate the problem.
This has been a problem on and off for a year or so.
I've just tried the bit of paper, and it does seem to be helping so far- fingers crossed.
    Good luck

  • Apple Wireless keyboard/Magic Mouse battery levels differ

I have an iMac 27" that my Wireless keyboard came with and a 15" 2.2ghz i7 Quad and go between using both the keyboard and magic mouse with both of the machines.
However on the iMac the new keyboard shows 40% while the MBP shows 67%
    the mouse is the same.
Magic Mouse on iMac is 87% and the MBP 100%
a few weeks ago before i picked up the rechargable battery kit from Apple, i had duracell batteries in the magic mouse and it said 100% for weeks straight which never made sense then randomly said there was 6% left and prompted to replace the batteries.
is this a hardware issue with the MBP bluetooth or just some glitch in software?
the iMac is 27" fresh out of the box 10.6.4 while MBP was updated using the 10.6.7 for MBP update.
    thanks,

    Hi Frank:
The battery reading anomaly is a known problem (began with OS X 10.6.7) and has been reported to Apple through channels.  As an aside, I use the mighty monitor widget which seems to give correct readings.

  • Improved Magic Mouse Battery Life

For me the late 2009 Aluminium Keyboard firmware update seems to have had a positive effect on the battery life of the Magic Mouse as well. Anyone else noticed this?
I actually didn't have problems with my keyboard battery life - still showing 72% on the first set after nearly 4 months, but I was guzzling batteries with the Magic Mouse - about 6 sets in the same period. Now a week after doing the update I've still got 100% on my Magic Mouse - woohoo!

Good to hear. I still have the same batteries in my keyboard since I bought the iMac on Dec. 28. Almost 2 months and they're at 58%. I obviously did the update so I don't know how its affected the battery life. I put lithium batteries in the mouse a week ago and they're still at 100%. Looking forward to seeing how long they will last. I was getting a month with alkalines before the update and I was fine with that but this should blow that away.
