Battery problem, not charging

Well, it's a "common" problem, but the standard solutions don't seem to work. So here's the deal:
I've let my MBP open last weekend without the charger on it and when I got home of course the MBP was off because the battery was empty (obviously).
When I put the MagSafe charger on the MBP the light didn't turn orange but stayed green and when I put the MBP on the menu bar on top says Not Charging, so I started looking for solutions and I did a SMC and PRAM reset, but still the battery isn't charging and the MBP only works when it's connected to the charger and immediately turn of when I disconnect it.
The battery was fine, so I don't think it's broken... At least I hope so... But I tried all the resets I could find on the internet...
What should I do now?

It sounds as if the battery has been flattened below the point where there was sufficient charge to run its own inbuilt microprocessor , fantastik_badr.
If, you flatten these batteries beyond a certain point it is possible to have the microprocessor inside the battery "shut down" the battery to prevent too deep a discharge. At first the battery processor itself continues to operate after this event, but eventually it , too, draws enough of the remaining current to become inoperative. When this occurs you will not be able to recharge it using a normal charger, though in some cases it can be at least partially recovered with more sophisticated equipment.
You can read something about this sort of issue at http://www.buchmann.ca/Chap5-page3.asp
Take your battery to an Apple dealer or a battery specialist and see if they can "reset" it for you by giving it a boost charge.
Cheers

  • HP Envy Battery Problems - not charging when on, charging fully when off

I've had my HP Envy laptop for about 3 months, and yesterday I noticed that when it was plugged in it wasn't charging (the battery icon says "plugged in, not charging"). I turned it off overnight, plugged in, and this morning the battery was fully charged. It only seems to not charge when it is turned on. I have tried removing the battery, turning on, deleting the ACPI-compliant control method battery, turning off, and turning back on again (as advised in other forum responses), but with no joy. At first I thought it could either be a battery issue, but the fact it fully charged overnight whilst off would lead me to believe it's not, and is probably a software / settings issue. Any ideas please, I've run out of google search ideas!!

  • Battery problems - "not charging (replace now)"

I'm getting this message, although my battery hasn't really shown any signs of problems in the past. I haven't been using my Macbook (late 2007) for 2 months now and I'm guessing that's why the problem appeared.

I tried reseating the battery and resetting SMC. Any other steps that I could try?

Nope. Seems it's done. Considering the age of the battery it was at the end of it's life. Macbook batteries start degrading after their 3rd year under normal use.
Some people think that charge cycles are the only factor to a battery's life, but it's the laptop's heat that degrades the battery's capacity the most.
Next time you decide to leave the mac in storage for a long period of time leave it off, unplugged and with a 50% battery charge. That's what apple recommends.

  • Battery will not charge. and other issues

Well i'm working on a friend of mines notebook, its a n100 model 0768 12u running windows xp. This is the situation so far. First his hard drive had fried so i replaced that and put the o.s. back on it,but now the battery will not charge. also the wireless network card and dvd drive did not work. I had originally thought that they might have fried as well when the hard drive went down. However I looked through the forums here and found that alot of people solved the battery issue simply by replacing the battery i recommended that. He purchased a replacement battery ( not a genuine lenovo battery, don't know if that makes a difference) and when i put it in the dvd drive and the network card started working no problem. But alas the battery still would not charge. the system runs fine without a battery in it, but if i put the battery in it while its running it turns itself off after about 30 seconds of having the battery in. when the system is powered off and i put the battery in the battery lcd in front blinks 5 times orange then nothing for about 30 seconds then 5 more times. maybe thats a trouble code, don't know, looked all oover the forums and couldn't find anything quite like it. any help would be greatly appreciated.
     thanks
    Steve

    Duck3,
Glad that worked for you!  Thanks for sharing here.
I saw a weird situation on friend's ThinkPad recently - a replacement battery arrived with a 37% charge (not 100% deliberately as somewhere around 40% is the best for shelf life), but it would not accept a charge.   We did a reset by removing the battery & AC and pressing and holding the power button a number of times  (some people say 10 times, some two or three times for a count of 5 or 10).   This drains residual capacitance.
We plugged back in the battery and AC and it began to charge.
Might be worth a try here before he opens it up ....

    After reading the number of people on this forum who experienced the same problem I faced (my T61p 9 cell battery went from fine to dead overnight), I took the advice of the contributors and purchased a new, genuine Lenovo replacement battery from a seller on e-bay.  I compared the new battery to my original battery and here's the test results for each of the 2 batteries;

After charging the replacement battery overnight, the battery gauge never went above showing 24% charged.  I unplugged the AC adapter and it went from 24% to its current level of 5% in about 15 minutes.  After plugging the AC adapter back into the computer, the battery will not charge.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It is hard to be sure without seeing it, but best guess is that the battery charging circuitry on the motherboard has died. If you still have remaing warranty, now is the time to use it.

  • Battery does not charge

I use an HP Pavillion G with an AMD processor. At a certain point, my battery stopped charging. I had previoulsy upgraded the computer to Windows 8. While still using the Windows 8 OS, the battery issue emerged. The taskbar said the batter is plugged in but not charging. I read some forums and took some advice to reset the battery and to release its charge. No luck. I also read that a BIOS update from HP could help this issue. My computer wouldn't boot after the BIOS update. I was able to use the recovery system to return the computer to its original Windows 7 settings (silver lining). I thought this could potentially solve the problem. No dice. I tried the same solutions that I used originally - still no luck. Now, the taskbar displays the same graphic indicating that the battery is not charging, but when I move my mouse over it, it reads "plugged in and charging." The battery is not charging, however.
    Thank you.

    Thanks for your continued help.
Indeed, the battery is closer to a year and a half old. Nonetheless, I haven't experienced something like this with other products, which is what leads me to think there may be a computer-related issue - that, coupled with the connection with Windows 8/8.1. I could very well need a new battery; I am just trying to exhaust options prior to making that purchase and I appreciate your help walking me through these stages.
I did have the HP utility center installed on my computer. It needed an upgrade, so I took care of that. The assistant claims that the battery is charged 100% - this is not confirmed if I unplug the AC adapter. When I ran the battery check, it gives me this message:

  • Macbook Pro battery is not charging but the battery meter is full

    Hi guys!
I have a 19 months macbook pro. I've tried using 2 different AC adapter but my mac's battery is still at 0% and the status says "Battery is not charging". I think my battery is dead but the LED battery indicator on my battery shows 5 lights, means its at full power.
I've tried to disconnect the AC cable and remove the battery, then press the power button for 10 sec but nothing change when i start my mac again...i also tried to reset my PRAM ( i think ) by holding a cmdopt+PR while rebooting but it didn't help to solve the problem too. I also have the battery update 1.2 installed on my mac and the results is still the same.
This is my battery info from system profiler. I hope someone can tell me what to do before I visit the Apple store.

    Hello,
I am having some strange battery behavior. I bought a FastMac TruePower Battery that is supposed to have extended capacity. Now when the battery dies, i plug in my MagSafe to charge it and it immediately says 'not charging', but then begins to charge. It either continues to charge and gets stuck at 80% or so and reads "calculating" in the menu bar, or just jumps between 'charging' and 'not charging'. The symptoms are very strange, and FastMac already sent this battery back saying it passes all of their tests. I do not want to send it back again because they charged me to send it back to myself even though it still does not work as advertised. I have my original Macbook Pro Apple battery which still charges fine, so i assume it is a problem with the battery based on a simple process of elimination.

  • Equium M50 - The battery will not charge

Hi, I need some advice regarding a charging problem on my PC.
The battery will not charge and the level indicator shows a constant 5%.
The machine is about 15months old and does not get hard usage, probably an average of 5-10 hours per week.Usually it's powered from the mains, so the battery tends to be kept topped up.
Before I go and replace the battery, is there any diagnostic I can do as a user?
    Looking forward to a reply.
    many thanks
    Steve

    Hi,
no, I dont think that it will makes any sense to perform some diagnosis because it sounds like a hardware related issue and I think it would be better to bring your machine to a authorized service partner for a hardware checkup or probably a exchange of the malfunctioning components.

I have just bought a replacement battery as my old one reached the end of its life. After inserting the new battery and plugging in the charger, the message "Battery is not charging" appears when i click on the battery symbol. How do I set up my new battery? Or is my charger the problem?

I'm not too sure. I knew the laptop battery needed replacing so I waited for it to die completely. But the charger light wasn't lighting up like it usually did just before the battery died. I assumed it was because of the battery running out of juice. Should I try another charger and see what happens?

  • Is there a settings in Win7/HP feature that the battery does not charge until it is under 95%

I just purchased a HP Pavilion dv6-7043cl laptop and have noticed that the battery does not charge unless it is below 95%.  I am very concercerned because I had a different laptop from a different manufacturer where I had battery issues.  That manufacturer was not helpful and I will never buy from them again.
I have heard good things about HP which is why I decided to buy this particular machine.  However,  I have only had this machine for 3 days and now this is starting.  I cannot find a Win 7 (I am running Win 7 home premuim 64 bit) setting that controls when the battery starts to charge.  Is this a function of the HP Power Manager?  Is this a feature of the battery HP ships with their laptops?  Or is this indicating a problem with this machine?   I am a college student and I need a reliable laptop for school.
Any information you can provide is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • T23 battery will not charge

I have a T23 (2647-4MU) that the battery will not charge any longer.  I bought a new battery (that's what one of the FAQs said I probably needed to do.  It came charged to 74% but has slowly been going down.  I just run it on the power supply now but would sure be nice to be able to make small room changes without having to shut it down.  I'll appreciate any help I can get.  Thanks

    Welcome!
From the description of your problem, my vote would be to say that a part has come loose from the motherboard. I've personally seen two T23s that did this (out of about 40 that have gone through my hands). Of course the fact that I buy "parts and repair" systems off of eBay kind of skews this occurrence . If you are handy with a screwdriver and a soldering iron, then use the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the T23 and remove the keyboard and check the black part near the top center of map location G6 in this scan. If you find that the part is loose but can't do the soldering yourself, then try a local computer or TV repair shop. If you disassemble the system beforehand and ask them to re-solder the part back on, it shouldn't cost you more than $10-$15.
There can also be some other problems on the motherboard which causes the battery not to charge (blown fuse; but that generally means the laptop will not work at all with a battery) or another loose or fried part. The part I've highlighted usually is the culprit in these situations.

  • Droid X battery  will not charge when phone is in vehicle mount

Droid X battery will not charge when phone is in vehicle mount. If you plug phone directly in to car charger it charges fine. This makes using the GPS virtually useless as it runs down the battery very fast. Anyone else have this problem. Other wise I love the phone.

Many of the Verizon Droid X car mounts have defective wires in them. This problem is widely reported on many forums and websites. You should return your product for a brand new replacement that is not defective  (that is, the car charger will charge your Droid X when it is in the car mount).
I happen to love the Verizon Droid X car mount. Lot of ways to adjust it from different angles for different placements. Just get a Verizon Droid X car mount replacement that does not have defective wires in it, and it should work just fine!

  • Battery does not charge when my Satelite Pro L500 is off

    Hi.
I have a Satelite Pro L500. Normally when it is plugged in the DC in and Battery led lights are lit up. Now both are off when it is plugged in and the computer is off. I have found that in this state the battery is not charged. The computer will not switch on while the power is plugged in. If I remove the power source and wait a few mins the computer will now switch on and opperate normally.
If I now plug in the power the leds are lit and the battery is charged

Hm. You mean the notebook does not boot up when AC adaptor is connected but it powers up if the AC adaptor is not connected?
Looks like an hardware issue maybe power supply electronic problem
Of course the AC adaptor should be checked too
L500 is not a very old notebook series and I think the warranty should still be valid
In such case everything should be covered by warranty so dont loose the time and get in contact with an ASP technician
