Battery problems with Hp Compaq CQ60

So I inherited my sisters HP comapaq cq60 307-SA so that i have a laptop to take to university, but it has a lot of issues when it comes to battery.
Sometimes the battery works fine, I charge it to 100%, and leave it to discharge, which it seems to do normally. However sometimes, even after a few minutes, the battery completely cuts out at any charge. When I plug into AC and turn the laptop back on, it will say 0% avaliable (plugged in, not charging), despite how much charge it had before cutting out. If I try a few times, the battery will eventually start to charge, but then the cycle begins again.
Please help, I have tried replacing both the battery and the charger, costing a lot of money, and they both still malfunction. Thanks

Hi,
Try this if you're using Windows 7 or Windows Vista - you will need some charge in the battery.
First of all, shutdown the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter unplugged, remove the battery, and then hold down the Power button for a full minute.
Now, plug in the AC Adapter without the battery inserted, start the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand the entry for Batteries, right click on and the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall - do not uninstall anything else here.  When the uninstall is complete, shut the PC down, unplug the AC Adapter, re-insert the battery and then start the PC on just the battery.  Windows will automatically reinstall the driver - leave Windows running for a few minutes. Shutdown the PC again.  Now plug in the AC Adapter ( with the battery still inserted ) and start the notebook to see if this has helped the issue at all.

DP-K

  • Reception / Battery problems with iPhone 3GS after upgrading to iOS 4.2.1

There are major reception and battery problems with iPhone 3GS after upgrading to iOS 4.2.1.
I can not believe that Apple did not test this for major bugs like this one is.
I am a business user and can not effort to have bad reception. Apple wants to gain in the business clients... I never had this with my former BlackBerrys!
I need a reliable phone not a play thing like this is right now, it just needs it to work propely. And if a major bug like this comes along, fix it immediately. After the iPhone4 story, now this...incredible! Going back to my reliable BlackBerry! It just ain't reliable and takes forever to fix a problem.

I have the same issue after iOS 4.2.1 update. I am using iPhone 3GS officially unlocked by Apple. I tried using different SIM cards and both carriers show same problem when using phone in 3G mode. Phone falls back to EDGE mode showing 'E' from '3G' at start. I have reset the phone and rebooted several times and moved to different cell areas in the city just to verify the problem.
I had no such issues earlier. I also have Nokia E71 which shows full signal and has no such issues.
I have posted the bug on apple iphone feedback page. I hope they Apple will fix the problem and test the release properly on all models before releasing to public.

troubleshoot problems with a compaq presario sr1603wm
whenever i turn on the computer the mouse, keyboard, and the monitor doesnt turn on. but the weird part is that when i use the 2-port usb KWM switch and switch them over to my other pc unit they work just fine. to make things worse my external hard drive, and the net card are showing that they have power going through them. im totatally lost cause i cant even get into dos, bios, or the start up screen. other monitors, keyboards, mouses dont work either. can you help me

i`ve narrowed down to1 thing wich may overheats my laptop:
The video card NVIDIA GeForce G103M might be the problem. i hear it has a kind of organic material , like glue, or other things wich keeps it togheter. this organic materials are not ment to resist to heat, wich makes them weaker. The temperature rises very quick, and the laptop performace goes down, when i start games or other video applications. so it must be the NVIDIA GeForce G103M. still whaiting for advice, or an ideea. thanks.

  • Battery Problems with MacBook

I've been following the various threads about battery problems with MacBooks.
I too have experienced a problem with my battery on a 2 month old MacBook.
It suddenly refused to charge. It showed a battery icon with a black X through it.
I followed various suggestions that I found through various posts and support pages - eg. resetting PMU etc., even downloading the deep sleep widget which I found difficult to get to work - but nothing solved the problem.
Yesterday I went in to the Apple Store in Birmingham and waited until I could talk with one of the tec experts (incidentally, they were very helpful even though very busy and I didn't have an appointment). The tec guy said he though that the battery was faulty. It didn't work in another MacBook they had. But another battery would work in my MacBook. So, I was given a new battery, which seems to work fine now.
However, I have read in various posts that people have had the same new battery solution which works, but then the problem reappears with the new battery over time. I will wait and see. If that is the case, then I think it will point to the problem not being with the battery, but rather with the system, PMU, OS X, motherboard or whatever. So, I think it makes sense for us to post any difficulties we have so that Apple can see that there might be a problem with the batteries in MacBooks and start working on a solution. Otherwise, it will probably cost them a lost of money providing replacement batteries !

    Hey Christopher...
I posted the same in another thread. I'm not a big fan of duplicate posts... but it seemed appropriate in this case. Take a look at the last paragraph regarding discharging lithium ion batteries. I'm not sure if it would be the electronics in the battery that tell the MacBook it's time to charge, or the MacBook's power management unit...
"Talk about a jinx! I've had my MacBook since shortly after they came out (week 9). Never had any problems. I've calibrated my battery about once a month or so. It seems after my last calibration, I got the dreaded "X" in the battery indicator. My MagSafe indicator was green. System Profiler showed that there was no battery. I reset the PMU and the SMC firmware... also tried reseating the battery (one of those things you're sure won't work... but ya just have that little bit of hope anyway). Alas, nothing would bring my battery back. Took a trip to my local Apple store. I had made an appointment online, but still had to wait over an hour (they really need to enlarge their Genius area now that they have so many more machines out there). Told the Genius what the problem was... he swapped out the battery... but the one he tried was fully charged because he took it from a machine that was plugged in. So the tension was mounting... would it charge or not (I was hoping it was just the battery and not something else). He had me use my MacBook for a bit to drain the battery. I ran Parallels and did a Windows virus scan (that should drain the battery pretty fast)... After I got the battery down to about 90%, the Genius plugged it back in. To my delight, the MagSafe indicator went orange and started to charge the battery. With that, the Genius went in the back and got me a new battery. He had me stay there for a little bit just to make sure everything was okay. I'm sort of afraid to calibrate my battery now... at least properly as in letting it completely drain. I had done a few calibrations in the past without a problem, but it seems this problem tends to occur after someone does a calibration. I'm just happy it was just the battery.
I came across this little tidbit from the Battery University webiste:
Some lithium-ion batteries fail due to excessive low discharge. If discharged below 2.5 volts per cell, the internal safety circuit opens and the battery appears dead. A charge with the original charger is no longer possible. Some battery analyzers (Cadex) feature a boost function that reactivates the protection circuit of a failed battery and enables a recharge. However, if the cell voltage has fallen below 1.5V/cell and has remained in that state for a few months, a recharge should be avoided because of safety concerns. To prevent failure, never store the battery fully discharged. Apply some charge before storage, and then charge fully before use.
I wonder if there is a fault with some of the batteries that is allowing them to discharge below this minimal level, making them impossible to recover."

Actually, battery size has a definite impact on battery life, and larger batteries tend to weigh more.
I had made the point that the Handset size (not the "battery size") does not affect battery life.
Furthermore, I wen't on to explain that the batteries are comparable in size regardless.
On this point Sholton, if you want a physically larger battery (which yes, I agree, naturally will yield better battery life) then perhaps the Samsung Galaxy SIII or Galaxy Note would be a better solution for you.
But then, because of a poorly optimised operating system on those systems, your battery will be working inefficiently anyway.
    sholton wrote:
can't replace the battery once that limit has been reached -  at that point you either buy a new phone and discard the "old" (not very green of you...), or ship the old one off to the factory for an expensive replacement, and no phone for the duration of the shipping and replacement).
Apple offers a battery replacement program where they will either replace a consumed battery or replace the handset if need be for a reasonable price of around $89.
The aforementioned service can be carried out at your nearest Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider in a matter of 10 minutes - rendering your point about being without a phone moot.
Once again, I appreciate your frustration, but perhaps the iPhone just isnt for you.

  • 13" MBP Mid 09 Battery problems with snow leopard

Last night i decided to upgrade my wifes 09 macbook from the stock 160GB harddisk to an Intel 320 series HDD.
I had gotten the Snow Leopard upgrade when i bought the mac in 09, but never bothered to install it. (Leopard worked just fine for my wifes non sophistcated needs)
So I did a timemachine backup, swapped out the HDD for the SSD and installed 10.6
Prior to the update, the battery would hold a charge perfectly well, and charge like it should.  As soon as i booted 10.6 I noticed the battery status said not charging and the indicator light on the charger wasnt on.
I reset the PRAM, then the SMC, did all my updates, and nothing changed. Still no charge.
So I reswapped out the HDD back in to the macbook,  As soon as i booted it, it said calculating charge time, 20 seconds later, it was charging.
The battery in 10.5 and 10.6 report OK health, with 260 or so cycles. The battery problems are ONLY in 10.6.
    HELP!

    Try reinstalling Snow Leopard:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.

  • Battery problems - with no usable Apple support nearby

    Hi all,
Over the past few weeks, my MBP (2.2 SR MBP) has been turning itself off completely whenever the battery power drops to about 45-50% of capacity. There are still three (or sometimes four) lights showing on the bottom of the battery in these cases, but there just doesn't seem to be enough power left to restart the machine. Only if I plug in the AC adaptor I can restart normally, whereupon the on-screen battery meter still shows around a half of full charge. However, if I unplug the power adaptor, the computer will shut down completely again within a couple of minutes. My cycle count is currently at 54 and my battery health usually shows at around 96-100%
I am currently running Leopard 10.5.5 and 10.5.6 (just updated) with all the latest updates. Another problem is that Apple's local services provider in my area is not very nice, they usually turn your beautiful machines into a mess -.- (i had experiences). Is there any other way around ?
    Thanks a lot,

This is indeed very strange, Nguyen. Your battery seems to be in excellent health according to the figures you cite, though it is a little strange that it indicates that the battery is not fully charged when it certainly appears to be. Usually when problems of the kind you mention occur the numbers indicate that the battery has a heavily reduced full charge capacity.
It may be a good idea to try resetting the SMC - see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1894
It would also be interesting to see what the relevant "System profiler" results are when the battery is partially discharged, close to the point where you find it shuts down unexpectedly. If the "full charge capacity" especially varies significantly it may indicate an internal battery problem.
Finally you might try checking the actual battery connection terminals. Remove the battery and make sure that both the contacts on the battery and the computer are clean and undamaged. You could clean them with a little isopropyl alcohol if necessary.
If none of these suggestions help at all, then it may be that your MacBook Pro has an internal problem causing excessive current demand - perhaps an internal short circuit of some kind?
You may end up having no alternative other than seeking hardware repair from an authorised Apple dealer, I'm afraid. Is the computer covered by warranty or an AppleCare agreement?
    Good luck

  • Battery Problem with Sony Xperia Z1 Compact

I have a very uncomfortable problem with my Z1C. Each time I use apps too long time (5 minutes), my telephone is off because of poor battery. I don't know if the problem comes from the battery or from the new version of Lollipop. By the way, I have allready reinitialised my telephone and uninstall all my games but nothing has changed. For exemple, if I launch a video on  you tube  or if I use the screen mirror with mty TV, the telephone is switch off  quickly and if I charge it, the battery comes back to 100% very quick ! This problem is very important since I use the last version of Lollipop. It's very uncomfortable and I am seriously thinking of changing of telephone if I can't solve this problem soon...

I'd suggest that you do a PC Companion phone repair, this will do a clean installation of the latest firmware and will also wipe your internal memory.
Open PC companion -> Support zone -> Phone/tablet software update -> Repair my phone/tablet (blue link style). Follow the steps given, do not connect your phone until prompted to press volume down while plugging USB cable.

  • Battery problems with blackberry curve

I bought my Curve 9220 two months ago. The phone was just working fine until just a few days ago I'm having problems with the battery. I charged the phone overnight and removed the charger in the middle of the night after the battery has been fully charged. After a few hours upon waking, I checked out the battery and the charge is almost empty and the phone is overheating! It's the fourth time it happened. I don't know if this is normal or if the phone or the battery is the problem. Help!

    Hello trish
    Welcome to the forum.
Try removing the battery, now connect charger to phone and now reinsert the battery and leave to charge. Since its heating up before monitor after it has been charging this way after some 10 minutes to see if the phone is heating up.
There is usually some warmth that accompanies the phone, if its just warm then leave to charge for atleast 8hrs but all awhile monitoring heat.
If the issue persists as far heating is concerned as charging it appears unsafe to continue phone your service provider and claim your warranty.

  • Possible CMOS Battery problem with my Satellite 1405-s151

I have a satellite 1405-s151. Since July it won't start. when i turn it on the green lignts is on but nothing else happens. however it sometimes starts with a bad checksum (ROM) or Cmos error.
someone told me that it could be a dead the cmos battery.
what u think about this ? i live in senegal and there is no toshiba center

    Hi
I don't think this is a problem with the CMOS-battery. If it is defective or has a low voltage, the machine will give this error message, BUT it will never have a problem booting up because of it. A defective battery will make the system lose track of time and date and possibly some settings You might have made in the SETUP but when the unit starts and gives the error message (You have to press F1-key to continue) the default settings will be set and they are good enough to make the system boot. I suggest You remove any hardware You might have added to the unit (memory, PC Cards and so on) and try again. If it still fails then I think Your machine is defective and need service.
    best regards
