Battery question- How long should they last

I got a 15 inch MBP in August 2011.  This is my first Apple laptop.  I would sure appreciate some help on this one.
When I first got the computer, I would charge it and use it on and off of the AC.  I read about calibrating the battery and did it once about a month ago.  Then I did it a few days ago.  Since I calibrated the second time, it seems the battery runs out very fast.  For example, this morning the battery was fully charged.  I used it for less than 10 minutes.  The battery percentage read 98 I believe.  I put the computer to sleep.  I think about 5 hours or so latter I went to check the computer and it had gone to sleep with a depleted battery.  It seems to me that going from 98% to 0 in sleep mode is not good.
Before I calibrated it seemed to do fine.
Please help me and give me any suggestions you can.
Thank you very much.

MBP's made after 2009 have pre calibrated batteries and do not need to be calibrated: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490
The battery should last 1,000 cycles before it reaches 80% of its original capacity.  Read this:http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html

  • How long should RAM last

I bought my MacPo just over 3 years ago with 8Gb RAM.
I have been having problems with the computer slowing down etc and had it checked.
It showed that only 2Gb RAM is functioning.  The boards appear to be Ok.
The RAM were moved about to different slots on both boards to find the two which were functioning.  All dust was removed and the boards reseated.
I cannot believe that 6Gb RAM would break down after such a short time.
Has anyone else had a similar problem and what should I do about it?
    Regards
    SAS

    2009? DDR3 then. RAM fails
2006-8 used FBDIMMs that run hot, have huge RAM heat sinks and also fail.
It isn't about how long but how often they heat up and cool and could just like disk drive die in six months. RAM is not your toaster - and my coffee/espresso well I go through those a lot.

  • Impatient store question - how long should an order remain on "Processing Items"

Not sure if this is the right forum for this q, but here goes:
So placed an order for my first Mac Wednesday AM. I opted for the hires antiglare screen so it's a custom build with a ship time of 1-3 days. I'm past the 48hr mark and it still shows as "Processing Items" where I can make changes to the order - so I assume they haven't started build it yet? How long is typical for it to remain in this status before it ships? I'm getting anxious!
Thanks in advance for any insights!
    Matt

You were told 1 - 3 days. 48 hours is 2 days. So be patient. It will ship when it ships. Then you will be able to track it as it travels the world.

    Harm,
You have a very thorough method of slipstreaming your systems. Have you ever done a step-by-step article on your method. If not, maybe something to consider. It could be an adjunct to your excellent trio of artilces on hardware and software setup. Just a thought for your "free time."

    Hi,
I just bought this PB 17 refurbished. The Battery says 2 hours left when at 98%. Does this seem right? I expected to get 4 hrs out of it.
    Thx,
    Dan

was the battery refurbished? while the optimum amt of time on a battery is 4 hours often ppl only get 2 hours out of them...as long as its not draining extra fast, thats normal....if the battery wasnt refurbished then thats definitely normal...other than that u may want to contact wherever you bought it to find out this info...if it was online apple store, then call and ask to speak to sale ssupport at apple and they can discuss this with u

  • How long should Satellite A215-s7422 operate?

I have one simple (not for me) question: How long should the notebook operate???

    Hi there,
your question is a little bit confusing. Why? :)
Ok, maybe I try to thinkabout what you mean and I guess you mean how long the machine should be ON till shutting it down.
You can leave the machine for more than 1year/4weeks/7days/24hours ON which means you can operate the machine till I-dont-know because it does not matter how long your machine is operating. I have a notebook which runs 24/7 as a server without problems.

  • HELP-How Long Should a Battery Charge Last?

I just had a brand new battery installed in my 2009 MacBook Pro at the Genius Bar. I'm not sure it's holding a charge as long as it should as a new battery. The OS is Mavericks.
How long should a new battery hold a charge?
    Thanks

There is no Set Time any battery will last, Run time of the computer. It is Subjective on what you are doing on the computer minute by minute.
The battery should hold a charge for Months if it isn't used. But I take it that isn't your real question.
All batteries only last so long, whether they are ever used or not and how much or how little they are used. They also have a shelf life. So even though you bought a NEW battery doesn't mean that battery hasn't been sitting on a shelf for the last 4 years and in that time it has used up its Shelf Life.
If Apple replaced it you have a 90 day warranty on it. If you find it doesn't work as it did before take it back in and ask to have it checked.

how long should my battery last on my ipod classic?

Depends on its age, settings that in use on the device, what it is being used for, and whether or not it is being charged up to 100% each time (usually takes a minimum of about 4 hours or so).
According to Apple tech specs for the current iPod Classic you should be able to get 36 hours of audio playback on a full charge or up to 6 hours of video.

  • How long should I expect my battery to last

How long should I expect my battery to last. It's about a year old.

Here's ehat i responded to another  forum trooper:
Ok here aremy recommendations for your consideration:
Goto the “apple “on your top menu bar. Click 1stoption (About this Mac) a small screen will appear
andclick on “More Info...which will take to a large another smallscreen with Mac Book Pro in huge
    letterslike this: MacBookPro.
Nextgo the “Systems Report” button: press.
NextUnder “Hardware” on the left you'll see “Power” click that.Volia the battery info
Nowlets do an analysis of the info: here's mine a 2 mo. Old 17” MBP:
    ModelInformation:
SerialNumber:     ****************** (not shown by me)
      Manufacturer:     DP
      DeviceName:     ******************(not shown by me)
      PackLot Code:     0
      PCBLot Code:     0
      FirmwareVersion:     406
      HardwareRevision:     1
      CellRevision:     1102
      ChargeInformation:
      ChargeRemaining (mAh):     7806
      FullyCharged:     No
      Charging:     Yes
      FullCharge Capacity (mAh):     8488
      HealthInformation:
      CycleCount:     17
      Condition:     Normal
      BatteryInstalled:     Yes
      Amperage(mA):     2131
      Voltage(mV):     12534
OK under“Charge Information” you see my MBP currently at 7806mAh (mstands Milli
which is 10 tothe -3 power) which translates to 7.806 Amp hours in non-techiespeak. As you see on mine Full Charge Capacity is 8.488 Amp hours.
Ok under healthyou see my cycle count is 17. Your very low cycle countreflects that you are not “conditioning” your battery by runningit on battery till 5 minute warning or going to sleep and then fullyrecharging it! You've had it ~18 mo. And your dooming yourbattery to a short life. Condition your battery for a long life.
Please notethis is a super battery 2.131 Amps @ 12.534Volts which Apple says will last approximately 7 hours. Real world experience is significantly less with Lion OS installed.

  • How long SHOULD battery last?

I've read 100's of posts on this and have yet to get an answer--how long should I expect my battery to last when my ipod is on, with screen on (auto lock on NEVER), doing nothing, no apps open (actually I removed all apps for this test), wifi OFF, location OFF, everything possible OFF, so just the screen on. This is ipod touch 8gb "3rd" gen, has os 4.2 but problem was same before with os 3.1. I get about 8 hours before battery dies. Is this normal? Warranty is just about up and I need to decide whether to pursue this with Apple. Thanks!

Not as long as if you let the screen turn off. As lllaass mentioned, the screen uses a lot of power and as far as I know, when Apple test an iPod's battery time, it's on the assumption that you do not leave the screen on. Their figures would be based on that and it's largely the reason why watching a video has less battery time that listening to audio.
So if you're not watching video, the battery will last a lot longer if you set the auto lock to - say 1 minute. More to the point, if you're not looking at the screen, why leave it turned on?
My own choice is for the auto lock to kick in after 1 minute. That way, - if I'm browsing the music section, or reading a web page or browsing my Apps, my constant navigation around the Touch keeps the screen on. If I stop doing that and simply listen to music, after 1 minute the sreen turns off and battery time is extended.
You say that you have yet to get an answer to how long the battery should last. If you check the technical specifications for the latest iPod Touch, http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/specs.html you'll see that playback time for video is 7 hours and playback time for audio is 40 hours from full charge. So if you have auto lock on never, I suggest that 8 hours is probably reasonable since it's the virtually same as watching video.

  • How long should it take for an answer on a question Cisco agree's is a good question and agree to work on it?

    Guys,
How long should it take for an answer on a question Cisco agree's is a good question and agree to work on it?
I have an RVS-4000 and it sends me error message by email on errors. Yet I do not have any documentation on what these error messages mean. I asked these question last May and still have not received any answers.
I was told it had been forwarded to a engineer for creatation of this documentation in May. Here we are...
Do any of you agree we need this type of documentation on our Routers? I think it should have been created before these where sold and included with these Routers. Maybe if we all voted on it. Then It might still happen?
Please add you reply's to this. As it might help to get things moving...
