Battery replaced, now bad sectors and reboot in order to use

I think I made a mistake by taking my ipod 30gb classic to  a local computer repair shop to have the battery replaced. Ever since I got it back I have to do a reset or reboot(middle button and menu button to reboot it) in order to use it. Did they ruin it? I brought it back and they told me now I have 70 bad sectors on the hard drive, it was running fine before the new battery. Thanks!

Unfortunately as it is removable for access to SIM/memory card it is a wear and tear item and perhaps time to treat yourself to a different colour back if one of the "lugs" has now broken off: Won't two elastic bands suffice for now?

If it wasn't Apple who replaced the battery, then you've voided your warranty.   Bring it back to whomever replaced the battery and tell them they probably broke your phone.

I bought a brand new Mac 27" desktop that came loaded with Adobe CS6. Everything worked like a charm until the hard drive, 1Tb, developed a bad sector and the Apple Store reinstalled a new one as I had extended warranty with them. They recycled the drive immediately (like a fool I didn't ask for it back to get the data off it.) But luckily I have all my data on CrashPlan. I downloaded it and it worked great except I downloaded it to the desktop and not the original location so it got squirrely. I also have an external 1.5Tb drive that I wanted to make bootable so I installed Mavericks 10.9.3 . I then went ahead and installed it on the newly installed drive too.
I think that because I have a new drive Adobe thinks I have a news computer. I bought the 27" Mac brand new from Ebay and it came loaded with software, including CS6. I have a serial number for CS6 but Adobe said it wasn't valid. (I have owned CS2, CS4 and now CS6 which came preloaded onto the Mac by the seller who told me that the software was registered to the Mac???
I am going to re-download the backup but this time to the original location (I still don't think it will work with Adobe. What can I do about this?

  • My Macbook Air 11 (late 2010) not charging "battery replace now) message 28 months old only 6 charge cycles. what could cause this?

I've unplugged plugged in. Checked the charger. Nothing runing. I've Shut down rebooted ran diagnostics and just about everything resolution I could find on-line. Its almost always plugged in and has not been used on battery power in a long time. Its not run down to zero power before. Just suddenly shut off the other day and won't charge now. Says replace battery now, but I just want to see if it could be something else. Hard to believe the battery went bad like that.

always plugged in and usually in sleep mode.
So it was always plugged in, never discharged, and was never really OFF, just in sleep mode.
Sounds like you got some half-true 'advice' from some people.
It DOES shut down when fully charged and you cant "overcharge" your macbook....., and the "others" were correct that your battery should be cycled every couple weeks at least.
what they didnt tell you is "plugged in and OFF is one thing.......plugged in ALL THE TIME...AND in sleep mode (for years)......NO!"
Heres some info for the "next battery" :
Keep it plugged in when near a socket so you keep the charging cycles DOWN on your LiPo (lithium polymer) cells / battery.
*Contrary to some myths out there, there is protection circuitry in your macbook and therefore you cannot 'overcharge' it when plugged in and already fully charged
If you leave your macbook plugged in all the time, take it off charge and drain the battery down to 15 or 20% every couple of weeks or so.
LiPo (lithium polymer, same as in your macbook) batteries do not need conditioning. However...
LiPo batteries do NOT like to be dropped down to 15% or so often,....key word being "often"
A lot of battery experts call the use of LiPo cells the "80% Rule" ....meaning use 80% of the charge or so,.. then recharge them for longer overall life.
Never let your Macbook die from power, you can corrupt files that way, and the batteries do not like it.
**Also new evidence suggests that sudden loss of power can adversely affect data on a SSD (solid state drive).....again, dont let it ever shut down from total power loss
The only quantified abuse seen to LiPo cells is instances when  often the cells are repeatedly drained very low.
Contrary to what some might say, LIPo batteries have an "ideal" break in period. First ten cycles or so, don't discharge down past 40% of the battery's capacity.
Same way you dont take a new car out and speed and rev the engine hard first 100 or so miles.
*Also, if youre going to store your macbook away for a few weeks or more,... make sure it has at least a 50% or so charge.
*Cycle count / use/ lifespan is one thing that cant be countered.
Proper treatment is another thing. Just because LiPo batteries dont need conditioning in general,.. does NOT mean they dont have an ideal use / recharge environment. Anything can be abused even if it doesnt need conditioning.
Just use and enjoy your new macbook,
    From Apple on batteries:
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1446
but really all you would keep in mind is --"consider 15-20% is the same as 0% and recharge it"
and best "tip" is if its near a socket, .....plug it in as long as you can (especially at home) since cycle count on the battery are the "miles that wear out the tires (battery)"

  • Need to backup NTFS drive with bad sectors and restore to new drive

So far what I've tried is downloading clonezilla and I've tried a drive to drive clone, what this resulted in was the new drive thinking it had bad sectors just like the old. SO since each time I attempt this it eats 2-3 hours of my time and I have to leave soon to go back to school, I don't exactly have all the time in the world; what is the recommended course of action here?
What i've been reading up on is possibly doing a clone to image file? From what I understand a clone to image will not copy over bad sectors (there is very small amount in this drive at this time, not worried about a massive amount of corrupted files)  and instead just leaves the files that existed in the sectors corrupted on the new drive. Is this true? How do I go about this correctly so I can successfully re-image to my new drive?
Would like to note I'm trying to backup the entire DRIVE, not just the main partition, boot sector and all.
    edit:
Before anyone suggests running chkdsk /r /f in windows I've done this, partition is still giving me reports of bad sectors. This gives me the idea this drive is on its way out and I'm trying to limit my attempts at cloning the entire thing at this point so I dont further my problem, someone has had to have delt with this before?

I've had good success with dd_rescue in the past. The default behavior of dd_rescue is to skip sectors it cannot read (see the man page for a more precise explanation of its behavior). However, it's fairly simple minded, and requires manual intervention if you want to try to maximize the amount of data you recover.
It seems the new hotness is ddrescue, a gnu project apart from dd_rescue which provides a number of improvements. Most notably, It seems to imbue dd_rescue with greater levels of sophistication to make it capable of recovering more data with greater levels of efficiency, reducing strain on the failing drive.
If I were to recover a drive now, I'd probably give ddrescue a whirl.
    Hope this helps.

  • Fixing sluggishness with SMART Utility reading: "1 Reallocated bad sector, and 6 errors"

Specs are as follows for Macbook Pro 15" late 2008:
Processor:  2.93 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory:  4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics:  NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
    Software: OS X 10.9.5
As instructed in other discussions, due to sluggishness (apps loading slowly, web development tasks requiring significant loading downtime) of my recently acquired Macbook Pro 15" late 2008, I've installed Volitans-Software's SMART Utility tool, and the results are that I have are:
    1 reallocated bad sector
6 total errors (last error type uncorrectable, prior command READ DMA EXT)
My question therefore is, to fix the sluggishness, to the end of making this a responsive web-development machine, what should I do?
Insofar as I've researched, I see my current options as
    Upgrade the RAM to 8GB
Do the above and replace the drive
Do some kind of factory reset or electrickery to fix the sluggishness.
I'll happily provide more info required: Any and all advice would be appreciated

My opinion: Backup, then replace the drive. Increasing the ram may be a good thing too, but unless you're really pushing things 4 gigs of memory should be sufficient, and if that's the original drive then it's high time to replace it anyway. Besides, it will only cost you maybe a hundred bucks and less than an hour of work.
Also, check how full your drive is. If you only have a few gigabytes left it can start to slow things down. Some people recommend that you keep 5% of the drive free at all times for system use; I usually suggest from 1 to 2 times the amount of installed ram.

  • MBP battery "replace now"

I have a mid 2010 MBP and the battery is now showing a "replace now" status after 45 cycle counts. We have an imac & ipad so I barely use this. Would Apple replace this without me paying? I think this battery is "lemon"

Just checked the AC T&C (I registered AC on mine yesterday). Batteries not covered. So on that angle you're not covered. BUT the unibody batteries are supposed to last with 80% capacity at 1000 cycles so if you play your cards right you may get lucky at the Store.
You're gonna have to go there anyway.....

  • Macbook Pro Battery "replace now" after installing Lion

I'm 101% sure that this is not the first thread concerning battery problems with the "advcanced" system.
    Here's my problem,
After I installed Lion, the battery won't charge. and now i'm livining on power-cord.
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name:    MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:    MacBookPro6,2
      Processor Name:    Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed:    2.66 GHz
    Charge Information:
      Charge Remaining (mAh):    0
      Fully Charged:    No
      Charging:    No
      Full Charge Capacity (mAh):    0
      Health Information:
Cycle Count:    49   <---- LOL??? only 49 cycles.
      Condition:    Replace Now
      Battery Installed:    Yes
      Amperage (mA):    0
      Voltage (mV):    10070
If anyone out there has found a resolution, please comment on. -.-||

Talk to Apple by calling the appropriate support number on this page. Either the battery is failing for some other reason that simple wear and tear, or the Lion OS is incorrectly reporting it as in poor condition.
    Best of luck.

  • Thinkpad twist (s230u) bad sectors and trying to reset to factory software

    Hi all
My thinkpad suddenly not starting. During bootup, I tried to scan and fix sectors but after 3-4 hours, it said it can not be done (after finding like 400 errors). May be the hard drive is partially corrupted. I tried to reset to factory setting from within startup screen it went till 42% and hung for two days. When I restarted it can not now complete even factory reset.
Is there a way I can get factory os installation and settings from online lenovo website? Any help is appreciated.
By the way my laptop is out of warranty.
    Thanks

  • Leopard, now bad safari, and mutiple hard drives

So after i installed leopard everything except safari worked great. It just randomly decides it only wants to load half of the pictures, and if you hit refresh then it will say something about conection lost. most of my photos are just blue boxes with question marks. so i downloaded netscape navigator and it works great so i kinda resolved that problem. so today i start up my mac book, and i noticed that it was taking FOREVER! so it starts up, along with 2 extra HD's, named macintosh HD alias and alias 2. is it ok to delete these or is it gonna freak out and mess everything up? and another thing about the HD is sometimes when i start up my macbook, it will have randomly moved my HD icon to the other side or in the middle or somewhere and named it something weird like "N" or "/". whats up with that ? can anyone tell me whats going on?

I know this question has already been answered, but I'm having the same issue with the HD aliases and I know it shouldn't "freak out and mess everything up" but when I try to move either HD alias to the trash it asks for my admin password. This is rather alarming because it seems to suggest that deleting these aliases could cause some serious problem or something. Can anyone please explain to me that this is not a problem, and why it's not? That would be most helpful! Thanks!!

Well in the same thread, there are many notes, did you apply all the notes? Please ensure all the notes are implemented first. 1850185 1839544 1833463 1822392 1743398 1721247 You can take a trace using ST12 as well In a test system you can try the modification and see too if the above notes doesn't help. Also, Ensure you have less request in SENT, APPROVED status, and error status, Typically we recommend to close out or delete older requests of leave request as they put load in validation.

I connected my laptop to my Clarion car stereo using USB but the IPHONE says that i need to install an app for this, when I agree and proceed to the download, it brings me to the apple store but does not indicate which application that I need to install.
Does anyone know which application I need to install on my IPHONE in order to connect it to my car stereo and be able to select the music that I want to listen too from the IPHONE?
    Cheers!

Did you ask Clarion?  I know of no other car systems that require an iPhone app to work.

  • I live as an expat in China. I can't speak the local language, but apparently the apps store wants me to change my region and langauge in order to use it. What do I do?

So, I currenlty live in China without knowing Chinese. The app store is telling me that I can't downlaod from the Chinese store, and if I change region apparenlty I also change language. So I'm feeling pretty ****** over here. What do I do? I live in a country that I don't know the local language of, and feel pretty much screwed.
    <Edited by Host>

But yeah, I need access to the Chinese store, in ENGLISH. I dunno what to do. Apparently I can either stick to the US store, and therefore not download anything ever again while I'm here, or use the Chinese store and only get apps in Chinese that I can't understand crap from.
I mean what, do I need to start downloading my apps from The Pirate Bay or something? This is insane. I can't adapt to this change.
