Battery replacement for Thinkpad X60

Hello,
Bought a battery replacement for Thinkpad X60. When tried to install it discovered an L-shaped part of the laptop (seems non-removable) which prevents inserting the battery. Has anybody encountered such a thing?
A pdf with some pictures is uploaded here .
Thank you!

Welcome to the forum!
You're referring to the plastic L-shaped part on picture #2, right? That's a spacer for the X6xs models. You can remove it by loosen the two screws with a coin.
That's an aftermarket battery, not a Lenovo one btw.

  • RAM upgrade for Thinkpad X60

    Hello
I plan to upgrade my RAM from 1GB to 4GB in my X60. I have found two different RAM models of Kingston. One is specially made for Lenovo X60 [1] and one is the HyperX model [2] with the same specs. Should I chose one over the other? If yes, which and why?

The Intel 945 Chipset does not support "memory hoisting" or "memory remapping" feature (Whatever you wanna call it). Your machine loses 1GB of RAM, so it can map physical devices. And No, you cannot turn of devices in the bios to gain RAM memory. I tried it. In my opinion, 64 bit computing was a kludge at the start. They should have abandon 32 bit support completely at the start. What would really tick me off, if I had a desktop with the same problem. I know a few people who ran into that problem.

  • [SOLVED] ACPI handler.sh no longer working (Thinkpad X60 Tablet)

    Hello there,
I recently did a few updates on my system to reduce power usage and get hdaps working. For some reason one of these changes must have broken ACPID in some way so that what I wrote in handler.sh no longer has any effect when I e.g. press the configured buttons to lock my screen or shut down, but I have no clue which.
I'm not really familiar with where ACPI and ACPID keeps all their logs either, and which parts in there might mean something for me. I don't even know how I can check if ACPI is running properly and just ACPID isn't, for instance (both are running thought, confirmed with ps -A).
Here's what I can remember of what I did:
    -full system update
-install cpufreq to redcude power usage with acpi_cpufreq
-install HDAPS with Thinkpad driver, as described on the Wiki
-tweak my laptop-mode settings, e.g. disable VGA output when in laptop mode
-enable AHCI for my hard drive in kernel image and BIOS
Would be great if you could help me troubleshoot this somehow, as I really don't have a clue on how to fix this. Here's some output that might be helpful for starters:

When I switch on IBM thinkpad X60s notebook. I can hear a sound from fan like it is try to move and then stop. After awhile an error "fan error" appear on the screen. I would like to know is it related to fan problem? If yes, Do I need to change a new fan? Actually, this notebook is out of warranty. So what will it cost for fan assembly and the labour charge? I live in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. I would like to know is there any service center in Johor Bahru? Thanks for reading and reply to my post.

    Apa kabar?
Sounds like you will need another fan installed. If you unit is still under warranty, call your local tech support to assist. I'm not sure about your exact location in Malaysia, but I know that there are some locations in KL.
I was able to find this tech support number in Malaysia for you.

I'm very partial to Mint and run it on all of my ThinkPads...
There's other good stuff out there, depending on what one needs/wants, but Mint is pretty much plug and play on most machines that I've tried it on...
    Good luck.

  • Thinkpad X60 - Power Manager issue

    Hi,
I just have to install the Power Manager version 1.89 into my Thinkpad x60.
However, it shows the "Black" Triangle which is located next to the power manager guage in the task bar.
Before the installation, I have not this problem. And I am using the genuine battery.
Could anyone help ? Any previous version can I download to avoid that problem?
    Thanks,
    Tlee

While I see the information of the black triagnle, it shows "my battery can run 3.x hrs, the new battery can run 5.x hrs" and inform the link to lenovo. It seems ask the user to purchase the new battery.
But I want to point out. my battery is in good condition. I think I no need to purchase the new battery at the time.
Now, my battery is suddenly damaged. While I read the my battery information from the power manger, it shows 99% capacity. But the current is " 0 ". It seems the battery is internal locked.
It is not really likes as you said the battery would likely fail soon. Since, I can use it more than 3 hrs continously ( 8Cells)
Also, I searched many posts and indicated that my battery is the detect unit within Lenovo recall program FRU no: 93P5029.
But nobody inform me before. Now, the recall program is expired..............

  • Laptop (thinkpad X60) won't reboot

    Hey all,
I finally got around to installing Arch on my laptop; its been running ubuntu these past months. I didn't know this machine could be this fast. ;-) I think its mostly set up now, but I have an odd problem that is related to... what ACPI?
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X60 Core Duo. Everything worked fine on Ubuntu, but I thought I'd go back to Arch for simplicity and so I'd stop feeling like a hypocrite adminning these forums. And for the speed burst.
My most pressing issue right now is that I can't reboot. 'halt' works just fine, the way its supposed to. 'reboot', however, shuts down the computer, takes me to a message "Restarting System" or some such, and then pauses for several seconds. Then the screen blanks like its in some sort of standby mode, but it hasn't shut down, as the lights are still on and the fans are still running.
My guess is I need to modprobe some module that is missing right now, but I don't know what it might be. Any suggestions?
    Dusty

I've had, or have rather, a similar problem on my old Toshiba laptop.  Kernel 2.6.22 seems to be to blame.  It doesn't happen often but it does happen.  It takes a bit of voodoo to get around it - like shutting the laptop down completely, unplugging and then replugging the power cable and such...
This might or might not be helpful but try booting with "ec_intr=0" kernel command line parameter and see if that changes anything.  On my laptop it does help, somewhat (acpi on this toshiba is a mess)...  I seem to need to shut the computer down completely before booting the system with this for it to take effect.  I know, this is all very strange, but something is better than nothing I guess

A1281 is the battery i got for my 15inch MBP. Is the battery life only 2 - 3 hours for a new battery on this device.
    This is from Apple.
2 to 3 hours seems very low.
what is teh standard or advertised spec for a 15 inch Macbook Pro with this battery.
I would like to know so that i can return it if this is not normal.
Its expensive so comments would be appreciated.

I say it depends on your model? average usage is about 3-4 hours depending on what you use and how you use it. Adobe Flash player eats a lot of battery power so if you are on a web page and has flash player, likely that it's eating up battery because of it's power thirsty.
Also check your systems activity monitor. It could be possible that one of your program/apps did not close right and may be still running. So check for that and end the process if necessary.
If you have a backlight keyboard, in a broad daylight, it's not necessary to have it on.
I also suggest that you use it plugged in most of the time, and it's not going to hurt or damage the battery if you have it plugged in all the time. Only use on battery if you are going to places that has no access to the outlet. If you are at home, then keep it plugged in. Just keep in mind to fully drain the battery until it your MBP turns off on it's own. This is the calibration process so that you have the most accurate battery readings.
The standard for 2011 MBP is 7 hours on battery. Before that model is 10 hours, but i don't believe that previous models will last 10 hours. Last week I calibrated my battery readings from fully charged and it took 9 hours to completely drain out the battery (I have a 2011 model),
If you think it's not normal and that your battery doesn't meet your expectation then set up an appointment with the genius bar and have them test the battery. They will determine whether it is faulty or not.

  • Hacker problems so I reloaded Snow Leopard. Afterwards, Mac had to delete 798 items. Now looping on 4 items to delete for the past 2 weeks. Can't reboot, reload, or restart. I have to let the battery run down for it to turn off. How to fix this, please?

I had hacker problems so I reloaded Snow Leopard. Afterwards, Mac had to delete 798 items. Now it is looping on 4 items to delete for the past 2 weeks. I can't reboot, reload, or restart. I have to let the battery run down for it to turn off. I think a big part of the problem is that someon one the internet (the hacker) was mirroring my hard drive. It seems to have locked up my system. I could be wrong about this guess, though. All I do know is that it is now looping on the last 4 iems, and I can't do anything.
Well, I can get it to turn on, but all it does is continously try to delete the last 4 items. When I try to reload Snow Leopard, it tells me my hard drive is full and that I need to delete items.
Can anyone help? I am so lost without my Mac. I am back on the PC, and though it works, I'm sure many of you will understand when I say it's just not a Mac.
    Thanks.

I installed Snow Leopard using my Apple external Superdrive. I followed directions I found on the Apple site. Here is the article info:  Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard: How to Erase and Install
                     Article HT3910
                     located at: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3910
Everything was going smoothly until I got to the reinstall part. I had to choose to reinstall on a hard drive or network drive. I've never used a network drive; just the hard drive. It seems that's where the troubles began. I selected the hard drive. It seemed to go well, and then I got the message that I needed to delete some files because I was out of space. I chose to get rid of my music files, but, there were only 636. I don't know what the rest of the files were. I was using the Secure Empty Trash command.
That was my first time doing an erase and install. I tried to do it again, but I now get a continuous error telling me that my hard drive is full and I must delete files. Only I can't delete files because 4 files are still being deleted and my computer won't let me stop the process.
I found out about the hackers mostly by the fact that whenever I used to watch something like Hulu or Netflix, I never had problems with internet connection or speed. Lately, I had internet connection problems. I went in to check my settings for my internet provider and found out the settings had been changed to public and all these extra computers were connected to my network.
