  • Battery Replacement Programme for Geniuses

On 05-Oct-2014, I attended to my Genius Bar reservation at Zorlu Center Apple Store in Istanbul-Turkey
which had been hardly arranged after 5 days of trying. I made that reservation because it is stated
on the Apple Support site that for some iPhone 5's whose serial number match for the battery replacement
programme are going to be their batteries replaced for free. So, my "Genius" Bar reservation went as follows..
The Apple Genius guy came with an iPad in his hand and verified that my iPhone's serial number is suitable
for the programme. After that the Genius did some fancy things on my iphone and sent the usage/configuration
information of my iphone to himself over network. After that he said me that my iphone's battery is in healthy
condition and they won't be replacing my battery at all!! But when I said that my phone turns off without warning
when its battery is 40% full, he first said that I have to close some application configurations and features of
the iOS and then it will be OK, but I showed him that I have already closed many of them yet I am facing the same
issue with my phone. Lastly, he said 'You are right that may be the case with you.. In this case you have to
restore your iphone using iTunes from a backup which DOES NOT INCLUDE ANY APPLICATIONS, then you will see the
GAIN in the battery life of your phone'. A really stupid answer that humiliates my IQ.
From now on, I won't be using any Apple phones again. I bought my iphone 5 because of the fact that I liked
    my wife's iphone 4.

  • Issues with battery and home button replacement programme

    Hi!
I've just found out I'm eligible for iPhone 5 battery and home button replacement programme. I have replaced screen after it broke, 2 months ago in an unauthorised service. Every single authorised service I've called refuses to replace them for free with an explanation that my phone is no longer eligible for free batt. and home button replacement due to unauthorised screen replacement that leads to warrantee loss .
My iPhone's warrantee has expired long time ago, since I've bought it in 2013. , but this mistake was made in a factory, prior to my screen replacement. What shall I do?

Yes, that is correct. You can try asking if you can pay to replace the screen and see if they will then handle the other issues. But, I doubt they'll agree.

  • Battery replacement IPod

I always thought that I could return my Ipod to Apple to have the battery replaced.  Now I'm reading that if you send it to Apple, they will send you a replacement IPod and not transfer any of your songs.  Is that true?  I just want a new battery!  Cindy

That doesn't make sense. Once you import a song into iTunes, the iTunes progamme should keep the information about the song and therefore there should be no problem "recognising" the song, why would that change? If it is changing, then perhaps Windows Media Player or a similar programme is changing the file information.
Or is that not what you meant by recognise? I'm also not sure what you mean by "showing the source". Do you mean that the songs get an exclamation mark next to them and if you try playing them you see a message about not being able to find the file?
If so, then either the song's filenames are being changed, the files are being moved after you have imported them into iTunes, or the drive they're stored on isn't ready when you open iTunes.
You can import a song into iTunes and then change the song name etc. in iTunes, but if you rename the "filename" then iTunes will lose the song. If another programme changes the filename, then of course, iTunes will no longer know what it's called.
If you move the file after importing, then once again, iTunes loses track of the song.
If the iTunes Library is stored on a drive external to the computer, then that drive must be on and ready before iTunes is started. Otherwise, when iTunes looks for its Library, it will not find it. Then it will start a new empty Library on the C:\drive.
Whatever the issue, you should not have to re-import songs on a continual basis, nor should there be any need to delete them, unless you don't want them any more.
For instance, I import an album, make any changes necessary to the album's titles etc. and then use Sync with the iPod. If I want to then change any more information, I do it in the Library, then connect the iPod to iTunes for a Sync which will then make the changes on the iPod, and at the same time play counts are transferred from the iPod into iTunes (if you like play counts - many do). That way, I manage my iTunes Library, but let iTunes Sync changes between the Library and iTunes.
I do not try to make Library changes on the iPod itself while it's connected to iTunes. What I do set - once only - when the iPod is connected to iTunes, are the options for the Photos folder that will be used, that All Ticked Songs and Vidoes are Synced, and All Ticked Podcasts are put on the iPod.
That way, when my iPod goes to "another place", my new iPod simply has to be connected to iTunes and everything that was on the old iPod would now be on the new one. In fact, I had to do just that, when my 30GB iPod needed a new battery (yes, I got it from Apple), then when my music library became too big for the 30GB iPod, I bought the 160GB Classic.
Acutally, the is one other time when this becomes important. If ever your iPod requires a Restore, be aware that the Restore procedure erases all the content from the iPod. I don't recall ever having to perform a restore myself, but there are times when it does happen. For such events, iTunes has the Restore feature, which you may notice on the Device/Summary pane (tab) that shows up when the iPod is connected to iTunes.

  • Hard drive glitches after battery replacement... normal?

Hello, I have a 4Gen 20gig ipod with click wheel and I just replaced the battery myself last night.
I then plugged it into my computer to sync and it was recognized by windows, but not by iTunes, the hard drive would whir, then click and then try again, then stop. I figured it was just that the battery wasn't charged enough yet, so I let it charge overnight.
In the morning it synced fine. I was then playing it in the car, and some songs would appear, then the hard drive would whir, click a couple of times, then skip on to the next one. After a couple songs it started playing them normal. After skipping a few and the hard drive spun to load more music into the temporary memory, it would whir, click and then skip the song, then whir click and skip that one too... and it kept doing it. Then I reset it, and it kept showing the apple symbol, then the Exclamation and folder icon, then tried restarting again. After trying to reset itself 4 or 5 times, it finally succeeded.
I read a few threads on here, gave the ipod a gentle nudge on the right hand corner a few times, and now its playing and I haven't had any symptoms yet for about an hour.
Is this normal for a hard drive on an iPod to glitch after a battery replacement? I had no such problems when I had the other battery in it, so it's hard to believe that the hard drive is going bad exactly at the same time I changed batteries. It is the right battery for the right iPod, anyone else experience this or have any words of wisdom or comfort?

Does the Apple store charge just to look at something?
Even if the noise was a dirty hard drive you can't clean the innards of one. You cannot even open one. Well you can, once.

The firmware update corrects an error that may occur, however the techs would have checked the condition of the battery prior to installing a new one.  If the battery was questionable, the firmware update was really not too important.
You can check the battery condition by going to the apple, left side of the menu bar, About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware, Power and see what it says about Cycle Count, Condition, Capacity: Condition anything but Normal needs to be checked and may need to be replaced.
The cycle count of 1,000 charge cycles is the typical life of a Lithium-Ion battery, the point at which the capacity drops to 80% of the as built capacity.

  • Macbook pro 17" (mid 2010) battery replacement

    Hi guys,
Just a first time asking question on this forum looking for some answers.
I had my MBP since new (bought in 2010 - still under applecare) and had my battery replaced first time just 4 days ago.
the test of the HW in Genius bar clearly showed the battery's gone and I knew it for past 6 months or even more. It was still holding power for about an hour (sometimes showing 2-3h), but compare to new one, when I actually got the MBP it was nothing. It actually lasted for 4-5 hours easily maybe even longer and the status was actually showing it was going to last over 7 hours, sometimes even showed 10 hours, which was surprising.
Now, after the replacement, and I believe I got brand new genuine battery, it shows no more than 4 hours but lasts for maybe 2 hours.
Also the health battery indicator is jumping up and down (it was 100% which is expected, but after two charges it showed 98%, then 99% and now it's back to 100%)
So my question would be, how come the new battery is only lasting for 2h not showing anything more than 4h which happened only twice anyway. Normally it show just something over 3 hours but usually below 3 hours and lasts only around 2h.
Can anyone explain or point me to something.
Should I take it back to Genius bar and get another battery or ... ???
    Thank you

CALL AppleCare and tell them exactly what you stated in your post.

  • How can I tell if my iPod touch needs its battery replaced or if there is something wrong with the power connector?

About 3 weeks ago, I got pushed into a pool, fully clothed, with my iPod touch in my back pocket.  Miraculously, I was able to salvage it (or so I thought) by putting it for a couple of days in a dessicator jar and then recharging it.  It seemed all right until a few days ago, when it began having more difficulty being recognized as connected when I hooked it up to my MacBook Pro, my wall charger or my USB port in my car.  Last night it was working and I was able to play it in my car and to successfully sync it.  I surfed on it for awhile then forgot to plug it in before I went to bed.  The battery indicator was in the red when I woke up, so I connected it to my wall charger.  When I came back, it was right where it was - no charging, and moving it to a new outlet and changing cables did not help.  So, I tried hooking back up to my laptop, same thing.  I tried my husband's wall charger; still no connection.  I then tried hooking it up to the USB port in my car, but it sees no connection.  If it weren't for the fact that it got dunked, I'd assume that the battery needs replaced, but because of that, I fear it might be something more complicated.  Does anyone know if there is a way I can test this?  I'd hate to go get the battery replaced, only to discover that it still doesn't work.
    Thanks!

Apple does not replace your battery.  Instead it replaces your old iPod with a refurbished one (with a new battery).  When they see your iPod, the can tell that it had been in the water and will probably offer you an out-of-warranty repair ($99-$199).  If you want to take a chance on just replacing the battery, Google for a third party repair shop, but in that case, the risk is all yours.

  • Battery Replacement Zen Stone Plus

Li-Poly batteries last approximately 3 years after manufacturing (charged or not). So if your Zen Stone ceases to function and it has not been abused, it'ss likely a dead ? no longer can be charged - battery.
I purchased a battery (actually 3 to meet their $ minimum) from allbattery.com? Polymer Li-Ion Battery 3.7V 240mAh. Order it with NO PCB option. $3.99 each plus shipping. After they arri'ved, I note the brand name is ?Tenergy. Original battery specs from Creative are 280mAh, a nominal difference. Specifications I didn?t have were charging requirements, but I?m happy to report they recharge seemingly identical from the Creative OEM batteries.
<table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0[/img]<tr><td>This battery replacement takes some skill and is, obviously at your own risk. Suggest examining ribbon cable prior to ordering batteries. My unit is a Zen Stone Plus with Speaker.
    </td></tr></table>?
    BATTERY REPLACEMENT:
Run Exacto knife or small utility knife around sides and end NOT including end opposite display (or you will cut through a ribbon cable) penetrating no more than 0.075 (/6th inch) to split case of Zen Stone. It may be necessary to insert small jeweler?s screwdriver directly at corners to gently pry, releasing positioning studs. If you?re lucky, you won?t break off studs, but if you do, don?t worry they are mostly for alignment purposes.
Lift off control pad (volume up down, fast forward, reverse, center select button) Remove two Phillips screws holding pc board to bottom case and lift edge of pc board with small screwdriver under USB port.
Hinge pc board up with headphone jack on top and lift up battery with screwdriver.
Examine ribbon cable, which is folded around control board and sandwiched between control board and pc mother board. If cable is torn (or cut) you?ll probably have to throw Zen Stone in trash as this cable may be impossible to repair.
Remove white tape from top of battery and unsolder + and ? connectors
Tint ribbon cables with solder (I used a little solder paste to get solder to stick), the solder in wires, paying attention to + and ? terminals. Be very careful not to touch the ribbon cables together or solder on a metal surface.
Cut a piece of electrician tape and wrap around ribbon cables and soldering joints.
You can test your Zen Stone prior to assembly.
Reassemble in reverse order using a pin, tooth pick or small paper clip and clear silicone caulk around edges. Wrap elastics around unit holding upper and lower case together while caulk dries.

  • Ipod Touch 2nd Gen Battery Replacement?

I have a 32 Gig Ipod Touch 2nd Gen, bought it when it first game out. Battery has been really poor lately and I took it to the Apple Store to see what I can do. They told me that they don't do battery replacements, just replace the whole unit. I said fine, until they came back from their computer and told me that it would cost me $250! I was pretty shocked, they just smiled and said, well they are trying to encourage people to drop their old units and buy new ones.
Anyways, $250.00 to replace a battery that should cost no more than $50.00 as per any other battery I've every replaced is pretty ridiculous if you ask me. With that said, does anyone know of any options to get my battery replaced, a good place I can send it in to, I'd like to get a "GOOD" battery not some cheap unit that will die on me quick.
Comment to Apple, I don't mind paying a little extra to replace the unit with a new battery but $250 is absolutely absurd, and to hear a comment on a perfectly good unit that Apple is charging a lot to encourage people to buy newer gens is very upsetting. I was eventually planning on getting a 64Gig version but at the cost, it's just not worth it to know that these items are just disposible once the battery dies! I hope you consider changing your policy in the future to something more reasonable. However old it is, any other product I have costs me a few dollars to replace the battery and I get good use out of it for a very long time!
    Thanks

In the USA, Apple would charge $79 plus shipping for battery replacement:

This place will charge $35 plus shipping

  • IPod mini battery replacement

I am in the midst of testing my iPod mini for the battery replacement program. My question is if I qualify for the program, will I be sent a new iPod mini, or the current equivalent, an iPod nano?
Any help at all will be appreciatied!

The information on this page says that your replacement will be functionally equivalent to the original, which suggests that you will be sent another iPod mini. You might get sent one of a different color, and if your original iPod mini is gold, you will definitely get another color.

  • My iPhone 5 is eligable for battery replacement but there is no Apple Stores in my country. Any advices what should I do?

Hello, I live in Montenegro and I bought used iPhone 5 off ebay few months ago. Phone is sim free but I notice really poor battery life. I have to charge it twice a day! Before 5 I used iPhone 4 and I had to charge every night but I could use the phone all day and I was fine with that. I checked and my iPhone is eligable for battery replacement program but there are no Apple Stores in Montenegro. There is T-Mobile which sells iPhones but I didn't buy mine over there. Is there a way for me to take advantage of this program? Can I get Apple to send me new battery and I will have local repair shops (which are very good) to replace the battery? I am ready to take full responsibility for that. If that is not an option could I visit apple store in US (example) and change my battery there for free, given that it is not bought over there?

This is how you get Service in your Country
The iPhone support site has troubleshooting articles to help you solve your iPhone issue on your own. If you have reviewed those articles and still need service for your iPhone, you can contact your carrier.Note: There may be a fee for diagnostic service. Please do not send any accessories with your iPhone because they will not be returned to you.
However the iPhone could have come from anywhere in the world since you purchased secondhand from eBay
You are correct T-Mobile will not touch the iPhone .
If you check the model number in settings>>>general>>>about >>>Model
if you google that number you will find out where the iPhone originated .If  an EU country then you would be eligible for assistance in any other EU country
if not then which ever country comes up is the only source of help
This version of the link above is a European version maybe more relevant

  • Bring my MBP in for battery replacement comes back with broken display

So I took my late 2011 15" MBP in for a warranty covered battery replacement and when I returned to pick it up they told me that the display does not work. Never had an issue with the display and worked fine when I brought in an opened it up for them to inspect it cosmetically. They tell me it will be 500 dollars to repair this and theres nothing I can do about it. They offered to let me pay for half of the repair. But still, does this not seem right? You dont drive your car in for an oil change and come back to find 4 flat tires you are $500 on the hook for.

May be some sort of electronic short also took out the display along with the battery, if there was obvious physical damage they would have caught it at the get go.
If you don't have AppleCare, a 3 year old machine facing high repair costs, I would suggest you don't spend another dime on it and either buy a new one or a cheaper Windows laptop if your rough on hardware.
My Early 2011 is still like brand new, because I'm very careful with it.
This will assist in getting your data off the dead machine.
