Battery shows over half charge then shuts off during use.

iPhone 5 w ios7 shows over half charge in battery but shuts off during use listening to pod cast for example.  When placed on the charger it takes a couple of minutes then shows over half charged again. What's wrong?

Hi
If you have tried restoring and all the possible fixes you are still well within your warranty period book a genius appointment and they will offer you a repair or replacement.
Hope this helps

my 8 1/2 year old i pod quit working. the battery is charged but the i pod won't play or advance to next song or work on i tunes. its like it just died and i haven't dropped it or got it wet. help?

    Howdy sld1106,
It sounds like you are able to see the screen but it is otherwise unresponsive. I would start by resetting the iPod with this article:
Reset your iPod - Apple Support
That should get your iPod back and working. If not let the device charge for 30 minutes, and then try turning it on normally first, and reset it one more time if it doesn't turn on.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

My iPod 5th gen will not completely turn on it shows the apple symbol then shuts off I have restarted it and tried to plug it into my computer but cannot find it to restart it
Its been like this for awhile and I can not fix it

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Please tell me that it has NEVER been jailbroke.  If it has never been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.

My 4s shuts off during use of map directions

    Shut down the app...
From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
Tap and hold any icon until they wiggle
Press the red to delete the Maps app from this list.
Press the home button twice when done.
    Restart Maps
Also, try a reset... press the home and sleep/lock buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

  • Randomly shuts off during use

I know there's a few other threads on here mentioning this, but I'm just adding my report to the list...
My MacBook Pro has started to shut down during use. As I'm working, it shuts down entirely.. no kernel panic, no warning.
A Hardware Test gave me this error:
    4SNS/1/400000: "TCOP"
I've had my logic board replaced in the past month. I've got one stick of Apple RAM and one stick of OWC RAM in it -- 2GB total.

Make sure the Hardware Test error is reproducible -- run it several times under different conditions, e.g. start Hardware Test with a cold computer, another time when your computer is at "normal" operating temperature, and again when It's hot.
The best action when a hardware error is reported is to call Apple and at least get a case log started on the problem.

  • Iphone 3gs keeps showing apple screen and then shuts off. won't start. HELP.

I left my iphone 3gs in my car to charge, i came back a hour later and the screen said "connect to itunes" and had 100% battery. I unplugged it from the charger and it immeditaly shut off. I plugged it into itunes and it does not even acknowlege it. all it is doing while plugged in is showing the apple screen as if its going to start up but shortly turns back to black screen. i just got my iphone 3g replaced with this one from apple store 3 weeks ago. I need help ASAP.

    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart..  Reset..  Restore from Backup..  Restore as New...
Try a Reset of the Phone... You will Not Lose Any Data...
Turn the Phone Off... ( if it isn’t already )
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
The Apple logo will Appear and then Disappear...
    Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds...
    Release the Buttons...
    Turn the Phone On...
If that does not help... See Here:

If you try all these Steps and you still have issues... Then a Visit to your Local Apple Store is the Next Step...

  • TS1367 my mac pro won't boot up, it keeps showing the circle but then shuts off.  I've disconnected everything and it keeps doing the same thing.

I have a mac pro desktop and it won't boot up, it keeps freezing at the circle and then appears to be loading and then it shuts off.  I've turned it off and disconnected everything and reconnect and it does the same thing.

I wasn't aware PRAM batteries did any charging
Apple has used rechargeable batteries for volatile storage for some time.
and just 'held' information in NVRAM and PRAM when needed and there was no power coming in
I can't see data held in NVRAM/PRAM doing something like keeping time without some power. One can't assume a permanent Internet connection to update it when the system is turned on now can we?
I assume it is on a 1000VA UPS that has good battery and fully charged too, and didn't discharge during the vacation
If the UPS was turned off it's as good as being totally unplugged so it may well have still been at 100% upon return. There's no power delivery when the UPS is off remember.

  • Emac shut off during use, and wont turn back on

the other day my emac shut off, it wont come back on. any ideas or insight? im having to use my old PC wich only works in safe mode and that is a major bummer.

If the Mac appears to be completely without power or any response at all, first make sure the surge protector / UPS / outlet it's plugged into os actually providing power. Then reset the eMac's switching power supply by removing all peripherals other than the keyboard and mouse, then removing the power cord from the side of the eMac (to remove the trickle current drawn by modern electronics even when nominally off) and waiting 15+ minutes. Then reattach the power cord only and see if the Mac will Start Up in Safe Mode (be warned that Safe Mode takes significantly longer than usual to start up as it runs a faceless version of Disk Utility to check the har drive --- it can take better than 15 minutes depending on the size of your hard drive).

  • IPhone appeared to not be charging, then shut off and won't come back on.

Please, anyone??? I had my phone plugged into the car charger that came with my phone. Suddenly the phone appeared to not be charging. It finally went dead. Even though now it has been plugged up to the house USB cable for over 3 hours it doesn't make the sound like it is charging when I connect it, it doesn't show the charging screen. And I can't power it back on. Even by holding the home button and the top button at the same times it won't reset or anything!!!! Has anyone else had this issue and is there a cure????? HELP!!!!

Today was in an apple store - they checked it and found that charge in battery was too low. They replaced it immediately and - lucky me - there was still a warranty (only 17 days left). The replaced iPhone has warranty of 90 days.
There seems to be no other solution.

  • Ipod will start-up then shut off

Hi - need your help before vacation on a long holiday weekend. As of yesterday, my video ipod was working great. Now, when I turn it on or plug it in, it continually tries to turn on by showing the Apple logo then shuts off and keeps doing this. It will not play nor will recognize that it is plugged into the computer or wall. I am using different cords and also went through the 5 "R"s...would love some insight or tricks to make it work.
    Thanks a million!

Hi, is the battery fully charged?
If you have already followed the 5rs without success it could be probably a HD issue... I suggest to go to your local Apple Store and ask for support, they can help you if the iPod is under warranty
    Bye

  • My ipod classic turns on with apple logo then shuts off about 30 seconds later, when plugged in my windows and itunes will not recognize it.

earlier my itunes told me that my files were corrupted and I needed to restore, so I did.  In the middle of the restore I lost internet connection. Now my computer and Itunes will not recognize my Ipod and if it is not plugged in when I turn the Ipod on it only shows the apple logo then shuts off after 30 seconds.  If it is plugged in it will charge, but Itunes and Windows will not recognize it.  I have tried the menu + select shutoff multiple times with no change.  All it will say while it is charging is do not disconnect.

The clicking sound is your iPod Hardisk, trying to retract and find the boot sector unsuccesfully.
Hopefully, you can do the iPod Disk Diagnostic as in this great post by tt2., it wont fix your problem, but let you know, how dire is your Hardisk health.
So only as a last resort, one way, to get the stuck Hardisk head free, is to bang the iPod on a rubber mouse pad, when you reset it, but do it at your own risk, some very lucky guys got it working again for the next 14 months, like myself.
