Battery shutdown during rented movie playback recovery.

During a recent vacation, my kids were watching rented movies in the van while traveling. Unknown to all, the Magsafe connection came off and the laptop lost power during the beginning of a movie. I could no longer access the movie as "it had been viewed". Don't want to through away the $3.99, can this movie be recovered to watch later? How would I go about this?

well hopefully when you downloaded or rented the movie you put it on your backup drive from itunes. This is where all your music and videos are stored just in case something crashes or as you were saying the battery. You should be able to find it there. Also if im correct rented movies have to be watch within 24 hours when you first start it. So if you cant find it basically its been more than 24 hours, so you cant retrieve it. Hope all goes well.

  • Booklet crashing during fullscreen movie playback

My Nokia 3G Booklet crashes during fullscreen movie playback, usually after 30 minutes. I'm using the booklet to play to a LCD screen @ 1024 x 768 via the HDMI output. The movies aren't even HD, just 600-700MB Avi files. I'm using Windows Media Player version 12.0.7600.16415. Anybody else have this problem? The Booklet gets pretty hot playing movies too.

About the temperature you should not worry to much, I would suggest you just to try another player, such as GOM Player, and to see if you have same issue, also If you could submit some logs with the latest Error Logs from your system, so that we can check if there is a Kernel Power issue or it might be related to overheating of your CPU. I had seen full movies over HDMI and no issue with it. I guess might be some software issue.

  • Rented movie playback fails

    Hi all
I have rented three movies from my iPad mini thinking to watch while traveling. Actually watched just one and two others left for some while.. Week or two.
These two was not opened even once and i presume i could start to watch during month or so. But today decided to watch one it failed to start. I tried second - same. Moreover, first i watched while travel did non disappeared as usual and not starting too with same failure message - couldn't be open.
In iTunes app i see movies are rented and button to play, press it ...switchover to Movies app and same failure.
Sure i can rent once again, not killing money...but who can guaranty it will not happen again?
    Could you give any advice?
    Thanks
    Andrey

  • No audio during downloaded movie playback

Hi there, after downloading a movie off apple tv there's no sound.  Apparently this is common.  I am up to date with version.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Have you tried adjusting the "Audio Out" and the "Dolby Digital" settings in settings > audio and video? It may be worth trying several combinations of these settings, although typically it is the "Dolby Digital" setting that causes most problems for users.
Also make sure that you have correctly mapped the input port on your sound system to the output, if you are unsure about how to do this, refer to the manual that came with your sound system.
Have you tried playing various content sources (i.e. podcasts, music, iTunes Store video, other video etc), do you have the same problem with all types of content? If you use optical you might also check that you can see a red light at the end of your optical audio cable. Is your optical audio cable plugged straight into your sound system, or does it go through a switch or other device?

  • Apple TV 2 - Not synching correctly during movie playback

    Hi all,
Recently bought the new Apple TV and have set it up fine. During some movies playback I notice the picture starts to jerk and then the sound is about 1-2 seconds ahead of the picture. To rectify this I have to pause the video, then play. When I pause, I can see the video playing catchup to whichever point in the sound I paused it at.
Is anyone else having this issue? Or does anyone know what the cause of this issue is?
The movie plays fine on my iMac with no synching issues. Im assuming its because my iMac is running and using its processors at that given moment. Some of my movies are MKV files encoded to MP4 via Handbrake.
Some help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

It could well be because your Mac is heavy on resource usage running handbrake which will use as much CPU power as is available to do the job.
Having said that I've seen this occasionally with ATV1 and ATV2, and recently I've wondered if it's iTunes doing something else eg automatically downloading a subscription podcast, and effectively freezing to other processes like AppleTV streaming as it saves a podcast to disc.
The other obvious candidate is the network not quite keeping up with streaming demands and running slightly behind.
Try playback without Handbrake or other intensive processes running - does it behave better?

Rentals can only play on one device/computer at a time.  Have you tried to play on the computer and still have that window open?
Have you transferred the rental to iPod/iPhone or iPad to watch?
If it won't play anywhere contact iTunes support at:

  • HT1657 Hi, at the moment I can only seem to watch a rented movie once - previously I used to be able to watch it as many times as I liked during the 48hr window.  Anyone else have this problem?

Hi, at the moment I can only seem to watch a rented movie once - previously I used to be able to watch it as many times as I liked during the 48hr window.  Anyone else have this problem?

    This doesn't seem right.
I paid for a rental and downloaded an HD movie, Avatar. I could start watching within about a minute, it played without skipping a beat.
My wife started watching the movie the next night and got about half way through.
The next day, she tried watching the rest, and selected the film and clicked on "resume watching".
But instead of streaming and playing like it should, we got the spinning wheel of death followed by a message "Ready to play in 1 minute" which soon became "Ready to play in 2351 minutes"!
Additional information that I can add is that it was Sunday afternoon which is peak time for internet usage and I'd just exhausted my data allowance before the speed limiting kicks in. Basic internet using browsers at that time was really slow.
So it was as though the movie we were going to resume watching was going to be downloaded from the iTunes Store again, and since my connection had been speed limited, it was going to take forever. I thought you downloaded a rental to your hard drive and it deleted itself after it expired? So any subsequent streaming to AppleTV would be coming direct from your hard drive. It shouldn't have been affected by the speed of my internet connection at that time, surely. Anyone else experienced this?
Actually, I just noticed this post, I'm sure it's related...:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12398832&#12398832

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel.

  • TS3623 Playback issue on rented movies

1st gen AppleTv.  On rented movies, I get a small black rectangle in the lower middle portion of the screen.  This started happening about 2 months ago and seems to "come and go" . Any ideas on what is causing this?

The rules are that you have 30 days to start watching the movie. As soon as you begin watching the movie you have 24 hours to finish before the movie expires. During the 24 hour rental period you can watch the movie as many times as you want. You can transfer the movie to all current generation iPods and iPhone. The software update for the Apple TV allows you to rent movies from the device without the need for a computer so you would be better off renting it from the Apple TV then iTunes on your Mac. Hope this is helpful.

  • Playback Terms of Rented Movies

I have some questions regarding the iTunes policies for rented movies.
    1. If I still have 29 days remaining, can I watch the movie for the first time anytime before that?
    2. If I don't watch the movie right away does anything happen?
    3. If I start to watch the movie and don't continue within 24 hours, what happens?
    4. How many times can I watch the movie within those thirty days?
    5. Can I move the movie to Apple TV ?
    6. If I start watching the movie on my iPhone, can I continue watching it on my computer or Apple TV?
Unfortunately, I have not found anything on the Apple or iTunes sites that explain any of this simply.
    Thank you

Does this occur with all content.

  • HT1657 Why does my rented movie stop playing randomly throughout the playback?

Why does my rented movie stop throughout the viewing period? This is so irritating while trying to watch I have to keep pressing the play icon to get it to play at all! Anyone have any info on why this is happening on my IPAD2?

    Hi fiercestorm,
It is possible that the video file of this movie has become corrupted. If it was purchased from iTune, and is still available in the iTunes Store for your region, you can delete it and download it again from the store. See this article -
Re-download or transfer your iTunes Store purchases from an iPhone, iPad or iPod to a computer - Apple Support

  • Can I use home sharing to watch a rented movie on itunes on another computer

can I use home sharing to watch a rented movie on itunes on another computer (I already have home sharing with other computers set up, but I don't see it.)?

Please be aware of the movie rental's time limitation that you have 30 days from the time of rental to watch your movie, and once you start watching it, you have 24 hours to finish watching it. You may watch it as many times as you like during those 24 hours. It may be helpful to make sure the download completes successfully before you begin watching the movie.
Once the download is complete you can watch it without an Internet connection. However, an Internet connection to the iTunes Store is required to authorize playback or activate the 24 hours time-limit of movie rentals. This means, only during the starting of the movie. Once you have started playing the movie rental, internet connection is not required. You can play anywhere without internet connection.
You may need to validate the rental prior to watching so it starts the rental period timer and for that you will need an internet connection. You can probably do that by starting the rented movie while on the Airport Wifi or right before leaving home. You'll have 24 hours to watch the movie after you start it.
For more information on movie rentals, you can visit:
iTunes Store: Movie rental frequently asked questions (FAQ)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1657
Note: 24 hours time limit is for United States customer only, while 48 hours for other countries.

  • Why does Itunes no longer plays Trailers or bought/rent Movies ?

    Hi all,
since yesterday, I have the problem that I can't play neither rent movies nor trailers anymore. I get into the player window and I can see all controls, but there is no video or sound playback. With some videos the time counter starts, with some videos it doesn't. I can always open the chapter list and see images of the movie there, but there is no way to see the video itself.
This worked fine until a couple of days ago. The only change I can remember is having updated to iTunes 10.6.1.7. I am not aware of any changes in the meantime.
During the process of debugging this, I have already updated Display Drivers, iTunes, QuickTime, logged out and into the iTunes store and de- and reauthorized my computer. As well as experiemnted with options in the QuickTime player such as Direct3D support. (btw: does anybody know if iTunes is using the QuickTime player at all or is there an internal player that is independent?).
    Any ideas?
    My system:
Windows Vista 64bit, all updates installed
NVidia Graphics Adaptor set to 1920*1080 resolution
    iTunes 10.6.1.7
    Thanks

At least guys, can you answer that one?
-> does anybody know if iTunes is using the QuickTime player at all or is there an internal player that is independent?).
Seems that the "internal" player is totally independent from Quicktime Player installed, cause you can run itunes without have quicktime installed. And changing settings in Quicktimeplayer itself seems not to have effect on itunes player..
is that correct?  Any hints on that ?
