Battery Status issues with SL 10.6.1

I have a brand new macbook Pro 13inch. After getting the new update my battery life indicator hasnt been right since. It goes up in time then takes a chunk of time out. Then look at it might add it back then before you know it. Its running on reserve battery life. This is a big issue with the new upgrade. Is there any fix for this?

The "time remaining" displayed on the battery is your macs best guess of how much time you have left based on what you are doing with your mac at that moment in time. Say if you are running google earth, watching youtube and other CPU intensive tasks then the battery will show a significantly reduced time. However, when you are only word processing with the screen half lit then the time remaining will be a lot higher. Also note that switching back and forth between these scenarios will fluctuate your remaining time too. The best way to judge how quickly you are draining your battery is by looking at percent remaining.

  • Could Exchange be a cause of the battery drain issue with 3.1.2

I've never had a significant battery drain issue until I upgraded to 3.1.2. This started four days ago, when I've been relying on 3G more rather than WiFi since I've been out of town. I just changed my work e-mail Exchange from push to fetch every 15 minutes, and it seems to have improved some of the battery drain problems. I haven't done the experiment yet of switching back to push. Any other similar experiences out there?

There were reports some time ago of incorrectly configured Exchange servers sending out too many push messages, thus draining the battery faster than normal.

  • Database clean shutdown status Issues with ESEUTIL

hi all i am currently trying to go the process of taking my database backup from a dirty shutdown into a clean shutdown state with ESEUTIL.
a user has lost some items from there sent items folder so i am restoring it for them.
i have checked the state of the database and it shows dirty shutdown so i am running the command below to replay the log files.
     C:\>eseutil /r E00 /l "C:\database recovery\Mailbox Database 1813862868\data" /d "C:\database recovery\Mailbox Database 1813862868\data" -verbose
it begins to process but them comes up with the following error suggesting i use the /a argument, i cant seem to find much information on this wondered if anyone had any suggestions. i ran the -verbose command to help try and narrow it down
can some one help with what the /a argument does or if they have had this issue themselves a possible way to resolve it.
    many thanks

    Thanks for the information and;
    1. I would start with your VSS backup provider Cloudberry since as part of the backup validation it shouldn't have passed if those files were missing and upon restore of the EDB it should have also provided all needed Log files.  Now its possible they
were missing prior to backup and that could be for any number of reasons, i.e. Anti Virus if improperly configured could have deleted or quarantined them etc, however more concerning is that the backup provider called that backup good.  I would look at
the backup logs to see what they reported as its possible they did report an issue during backup.  The other possibility is that the files are within the backup but didn't restore for some reason and for that you would need to do another test restore
to validate.  Also could be that upon restore the logs were deleted by your Anti Virus provider and of course you can check the AV logs and quarantine...
    2. Running a /P against a restored backup for item level recovery is not as big of a deal as it would be if you were putting the db back into production.  True you can still lose data with a /P but for what you were doing not an issue IMO especially if
    you recovered the needed data.
    3. The log loss also was in the middle of the needed log chain which is never a good sign. Sometimes you can get by that issue by removing all logs after the missing log file and just trying to play it up to that point in time.
    P.S. If you are missing the log files post backup and want to avoid running a /P on an inconsistent/dirty database the only choices are to;
A: find the logs (Look at AV logs and quarantine or perhaps re restore the files again from backup)
    B: do the /P
C: Check out our DigiScope product that can bypass most /P issues by using our Forensic mount to open the database and then extract the needed information to PST or restore it directly to any mailbox on the original or alternate exchange server (even alternate
    versions i.e. 5.5-->2000-->2003-->2007-->2010-->2013 etc.)
Search, Recover, & Extract Mailboxes, Folders, & Email Items from Offline Exchange Mailbox and Public Folder EDB's and Live Exchange Servers or Import/Migrate direct from Offline EDB to Any Production Exchange Server, even cross version i.e. 2003 -->
    2007 --> 2010 --> 2013 with Lucid8's

  • Battery/ power issues with Leopard

If I let my macbook battery run down completely or the lid gets inadvertently closed while its booting up, the only way i can then get Leopard back up and running is to reset the Pram (apple/alt/p/r).
Does this mean the power settings or preferences are corrupted in some way and if so, how can I reset them?

Same problem. Recently upgraded to Lion. Was using my Mac fine (running off battery) this morning, no worries. Came home from work, wouldn't turn on without plugging it in, turned it on, said "service battery", left it charging for awhile, unplugged it, it wouldn't turn on again without plugging it in, told me 0% charge. How can it go from working fine in the morning to not at all at night??

  • IPhone 5 iOS 7.0.4 issues with Battery consistency

    Hello
I'm currently having issues with my iPhone 5 and it's battery. I have noticed that since the update to iOS 7 my phone will say it has eg. 15%, 20% left of my battery but will then turn off as if there is no battery left. Also sometimes it says that 1% is left but it lasts a couple of hours.
I'm finding that the battery percentage on the screen of my iPhone does not seem to reflect the amount of battery life actually left.
Has anyone else had this issue and could you please advise how it can be fixed? Should I take it back to the apple store? My phone is less than a year old.
    Thank you

    reset your device
Note: no data will be lost.
If the issue isn't resolved, let the device completely discharge. Let the battery die. Subsequently, plug it back in and charge it up to 100%. This process is known as calibration.

How to fix battery life issues with iOS 7, iPhone 5s, and iPhone 5c ...

  • Are battery drain issues fixed in 6.1.3?

I realize it only came out a few hours ago, but can anyone confirm if the Exchange bug that wasn't completely fixed in 6.1.2, and/or the iCloud Document Sync over cellular were fixed in 6.1.3?
    Thanks!

    Good evening all,
I too am an Apple Developer and have been messing with these devices for a while.  I can attest that 6.0.1 was the most stable and efficient iOS v6 I used.  I have a 4S and a 5, both ran 6.0.1 until the "exchange bug" was fixed.  I am sorry I upgraded my 5, because I see significant battery drain issues with or without Exchange configured.  I have restored from DFU, Reset All settings, turned on and off all settings, etc (every trick on the forums)  I test and tune for a living and clients complain to me and ask for a fix, so I do the best I can. My 4S with the SAME configuration as my 5, lasts FOREVER!  When a phone works perfect, and one "upgrades" software and sees problems, 100% is related to the software, not hardware.  Unless the software is not compatible with the hardware, then I would make the safe bet and say the software is the culprit, def an Apple realted issue IMO.
The reason for Apple to change the software on devices is because it changes how the hardware functions.  Without software, our hardware would be nothing more than paper weights.  Working with software for years I know its hard to get it perfect for millions of users.  Apple has their work cut out for them.  I don't expect perfection, but it would be nice to build on a good foundation.  I thought they finally turned the corner with 6.0.1 but 6.1.2 is a painful reality for people whom truly rely on their mobile devices.  Have faith, because 6.1.3 from a restore from a "new phone" has been working smoother for myself..so far.

  • Odd battery life issues after improvement w/ 5.1

I have an iPhone 4 GSM (AT&T) that was experiencing significant battery life issues with the previous version of iOS (5.0.1?).
After updating to iOS 5.1, the battery life improved signifcantly - I could now get comfortably through a day with 50% remaining at bedtime versus 20%.
In the last couple weeks the battery life started getting worse and worse, to the point where I could barely get home from work and it would be 10-20%. I started to pare back the settings like Location Services, notifications, frequency of email checking, etc. with no improvement. I noticed the phone seemed to be running warmer than usual, so I thought there may be some software issue causing an infinite loop...
I Reset Network Settings as I've heard that can help - no difference. Then I wiped the iPhone and restored from backup - no difference. Finally I wiped the iPhone and set up as New, only installing a few apps and being very conservative with push, GPS settings etc. I am still down to 20% by 5 pm, and this is with light use. Wifi is on all the time, which is what I primarily use, but it never caused this much drain.
It's also quite variable - the other day I made it home with about 70% battery life, but then it dropped 25% in 30 minutes with only light usage (email/web).
Is the battery itself going bad, and/or is there any way I can test it? I got this phone as a warranty replacement (probably a refurb) in July  2011 so I don't think the battery is that old.

Just an update. I totally wiped my iPhone 4, and turned everything off including keeping it in Airplane Mode and it seemed to help a little - it was over 80% at noon without any use. Of course, the phone is useless like this. As soon as I turned wifi on at work (still left the cellular radio off) it started dropping fast.
It must be the battery going bad, but I was just wondering if there are any other suggestions. I don't want to pay to get a new battery installed if I don't have to, since by this fall I will be eligible to upgrade to iPhone 5 if it comes out.

  • IOS 7.1.1 Battery Management Issues?

I've been browsing the battery related issues with the latest upgrade, trying to figure out if anyone else is seeing what I'm seeing.  I don't think my battery is draining any faster on 7.1.1, I think iOS is having trouble managing what the battery life is.
I have a 5s and since the 7.1.1 release I'm having significant problems with my battery.  The phone will frequently freeze or crash or drop 25-50% battery life in 5 minutes.  So I've started paying close attention.  Here are the symptoms:
Battery life is inconsistant - I check it and I'm at 74%, next time I check it I'm suddenly down to 30%, next time I check it I'm at 52%, next time I check it it's dead requiring a plug-in to turn back on
Battery life drops quickly - I put it in my pocket at 45%, I take it out of my pocket 5 minutes later and it's dropped to the point that it requires a plug-in to turn back on.  However other times I can have it on actively in use at mid-battery life for 10-20 minutes with no noticable battery drain.  I've made no changes to apps running or background settings
Battery frequently appears to "drain" without draining - This happend to me 3 times today and twice yesterday.  I'm using the phone, my batterly life is above 75% and suddenly I get a black screen with the spinning "loading" icon and then my phone's off.  I try to turn it back on, it doesn't respond for a few seconds and then tells me the battery is totally drained and must be plugged-in to turn back on.  I do this and my battery is back up into the 80's by the time the phone turns on
My experience leads me to believe there may be a problem in 7.1.1 with the OS's ability to actually manage the battery life.  Has anyone else experienced anything similiar?  Does anyone know if there's a fix?  Thanks.

  • Issue with battery after waking from sleep ...

    Hey Everyone,
I just recently starting having battery power issues when I awake my machine from sleep. If I am working with a full battery ( or almost full ) say 80% and I put my machine to sleep, it goes to sleep (like it should). If I flip the machine over and press the button on the battery to check it's level I get 4 out of 5 green lights. This is all normal. Now for the strange part ... when I wake the machine back up, regardless of how long it has been asleep the battery meter switches to Red and "calculating..." and basically it shows the battery as empty. If I check the green lights on the battery at this point I get only 1 flashing green light. I do not however get the power warning message. If I check the battery levels in System Profiler it shows my full charge as around 1600 mAh ( around 5500 before it goes to sleep ) and remaining capacity at 0 ( around 4420 before sleep ).
Now, if I continue using the machine it doesn't run out of power ( obviously because the battery is still pretty much full although the system and battery itself doesn't think so ). If I wait long enough the "calculating..." status eventually corrects itself and suddenly I have 80% power and everything has returned to normal! However, if the machine goes to sleep before this, it won't wake up and I need to basically plug the machine in ... then it will turn on and switches to "Charging" which only take about 20 minutes to get a full charge seeing how the battery isn't really empty.
I have read all the posts on the battery issues and I have a machine that's only a few weeks old. It did not experience these problems at first. It seems as if they appeared after I ran the firmware upgrade.
Has anyone else experienced this behaviour? I have done a battery calibration with no luck ... I really feel it is a software issue and not hardware from what I can gather. Any ideas?
I should also note that if I put the machine to sleep with a full battery and also with the power adaptor still plugged in ( and green ) ... the machine wakes up just fine. However, if it goes to sleep on battery power then the trouble begins.
    Cheers,
    Michael.

Have you reset your PMU? The Apple website has instructions for doing that. It sounds like some power management problem, but beware of your battery bulging, which I'm sure is an actual chemical change. I actually only noticed my battery bulging when I removed my battery to reset the PMU, which didn't help me. Apple replaced my battery promptly... Your problem is different from the usual bulging battery, though, so I would reset the PMU.
I understand why you think it is software/firmware related, but I don't buy it completely... Near as I can tell, the charge indicator LEDs on the battery are technically independent of the computer, they still work if you take the battery out. I had a bulging battery and saw some funny things with the LEDs: the computer would completely shut down and I would get no LED signal, not even one light flashing. If I left the computer alone for a few hours, the LEDs would work again, and I could even turn on the computer and get up to 5 minutes of uptime out of it. Have you checked if your battery bulges?
Another thing you might try is check to see if the firmware update was successful. I read somewhere that there was a risk of the update failing and about a procedure for reverting the firmware. Find out how from Apple, though, some people post instructions on the discussions that are incomplete.

It worked perfectly for a couple of months but it came back after I forgot to charge the ipad , does anyone know how I can force the ipad into that screen again ?

  • Battery Issue With iPod Classic?

I have my iPod hooked up to my radio so it usually just charges that way, but I kept having low battery so I decided to charge it all the way and then reboot it and when I rebooted and the iPod turned back on it went straight "to low battery" or "no power remaining" and it never use to do this.

  • What appears to be a battery or charging issue with my MacBook Pro

I'm hoping someone can help me troubleshoot this situation... I have one of the earlier models of the MacBook Pro (Silver keyboard) and am having issues with it. It normally sits in my office and is plugged in but I took it on a business trip recently and it started acting oddly. Suddenly it didn't seem to want to hold a charge. When I had it plugged in it showed as "not charging" in the menu bar but was still running properly. It seemed the battery couldn't get past maybe 12% charge. Anyway, once I returned home it wouldn't turn on at all. The light on the mag power adapter is not on but I did see a spark when I plugged it into a socket. The battery button flashes fast for a few seconds when I push it. I'm sort of assuming that it is either the battery or the charger but any thoughts on where to start? If it is the battery shouldn't it still power on when plugged in? I have left it for a full 24 hours "charging" and so far nothing. Any help appreciated!

I'm sure I need one anyway so I'll likely do that regardless... I'm wondering if anyone can confirm that the light on the mag adapter wouldn't be lit up if it's a battery issue so I can rule that out though
