Battery stuck at 0%, looking for course of action

Hello everyone, this is my first time posting on these forums so if I miss anything, I apologize in advance.
I'm currently working on a 17" MBP, version 4.1 (2.6Ghz & 4Gb ram). About 5 days ago, I was working on it with no problems whatsoever (really love this machine). I went on a small business trip for several days, and today is my first day back working on this machine. The battery is currently stuck at 0% and is not charging.
So far, here are the actions I've taken, after reading what others have said on the forums and from simply google'ing around.
I have tried the obvious, powering off, removing the batter/adapter, replacing the battery, then letting the computer sit with the adapter in it powered off for 20 minutes. turning it on revealed the same problem.
I then attempted an SMC reset and a PRAM reset as defined by other help files.
I do not have a digital multimeter available to me at the moment, so I cannot test the output of the adapter, although I have tried it in multiple outlets.
Here is the information from my system information file:

Reading through all of this, it appears to me that not only the battery should be good, but it actually believes it is currently charging. Are there any other resets I should consider doing or any other courses of action to take?
Thank you all in advance for your time and knowledge,
Joe

Are you using a BB original charger? If not you need to. I've tried other non-BB and they won't charge the PB for some reason. The one from the box can take up to 10 hours or more. Is the little lightning bolt indicator on the battery indicator? I assume you plugged the charger in the middle plug on the BB. Try the charger on a phone to make sure it's not dead.

Is your CS6 for Mac or Windows?
(The second licensed install is already being used by my son.)
Best if you don't mention that here. It's a breach of the End User License Agreement.
The second install is for the license holder (you) and the license holder alone. It is not permitted to be shared, even amongst family members. Your son should have his own paid for copy complete with two activations.

  • 1st generation MacBook, battery and Leopard issues; looking for help please

I have a 1st generation MacBook that started having battery problems immediately after installing Leopard. it was the same issue many others have complained about; battery life shortened and shutting down while on battery power with no warning. I have never had that problem while using Tiger. I experienced this with both 10.5.0 and the stand alone upgrade of 10.5.1 using an erase and install method.
(BTW, as a side note: I'm religious about calibrating my battery every month and use a program called "CoconutBattery" to document the results. Prior to Leopard, the battery measured 97-99% capacity. Three days after Leopard was installed it was time for another check, the result was 74% capacity.)
I had a clone backup of Tiger and immediately restored my MacBook, but the problem followed Tiger. I have Applecare and called support. Both myself and the tech found it rather hard to believe that the battery just suddenly failed coincidentally after the Leopard install. We went through the regular things; SMC reset, firmware checks, diagnostics, repair permissions, etc.
We believe it has to do with the Battery Updater package. I had gone between both versions of 1.2 and 1.3, but the problem remained with both Tiger and Leopard. The tech decided to send me a new battery (it's on the way) and I wish to try installing Leopard again. As long as I have my cloned Tiger image, all I have to lose is my time, but hopefully, not another battery! I would honestly like to get Leopard running on this machine.
But... here's my question. In reading through these discussions in both the Leopard and MacBook forum, there doesn't seem to be any consensus of which BatteryUpdater package to use. The Apple tech honestly told me he didn't know. Also, if the BU package "writes" to the battery (which it states it does), can it be downgraded once v1.3 has been installed? I mean, should I leave the battery out, install Leopard, then manually update BU to v1.2 before installing the battery (if possible)? I do plan on testing the new battery with my Tiger install, just to verify it is working as it was before.
There are a lot of people here claiming to be knowledgeable about Leopard, never had any problems with a variety of machines, etc, etc, so I would appreciate your input. Please don't speculate, but if you're using a version of BU that works with Leopard and your 1st Gen MacBook, I would appreciate you telling me about it. I have tried to document and methodically relate everything I've done so far, but if you need additional information, just let me know.
I noticed Leopard had installed BU v1.3 when I checked it, so it must use that as default, since I noticed Tiger had v1.2.
OR, am I way off base on this? Can anyone think of another reason I may have had this problem? Am I barking up the wrong tree by concentrating on the BatteryUpdater package? Is it possible all these batteries are failing under a Leopard install maybe due to some unknown reason?
Any knowledgeable advice or suggestions are welcome, thanks!

Well, Ding Dang y'all... it appears the battery was the culprit. I received my replacement battery from Apple and followed the same steps and everything seems to be working fine.
It sure was strange that the battery started this problem immediately after Leopard was installed... I don't know what to say about that, unless BatteryUpdater v1.3 started the chain of events.
In case it helps someone else, here's exactly what I did (rebooted through each step):
    - Backed up data; unauthorized computer from iTunes
    - Erase and install from the Leopard disc, while keeping the old battery in
    - Installed Leopard, did software updates except for delta 10.5.1 update
    - Applied combo update of 10.5.1 from separately downloaded file
    - Found BatteryUpdater Bundle (BU) of v1.3, moved to trash, rebooted
    - Ran software updates, BU v1.2 was found and installed
    - Then, swapped out battery to new battery
    - Tested unit, seems to be okay now, no shutdown issues, battery runtime seems normal
Thanks to all that had advice and suggestions. It was enough to get me to try it again. Now, I have two more machines to upgrade, since these are production machines, I'll probably wait awhile. But, having this is a real treat.
    Have a great holiday everyone!

  • Leopard stuck in loop looking for off line servers

A few weeks after I installed Leopard on my MacBook Pro I started having the following problem. When starting Final Cut Pro or Photoshop, Leopard would ask me to log into my G4--which is on my network. Not a big deal. But when I am away from my network, it still wants me to connect to the G4 and gives me an error message that reads:
"This server may not exist or is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and your network connection and try again."
If I clear the message five times on Final Cut Pro, it finally goes away and FCP opens. On Photoshop I need to clear the message two times. It takes several minutes for each error to clear.
I did everything the pro apps people recommended. I've checked to make sure FCP is only using the MacBook Drive for a scratch disc, I've trashed FCP preferences and user Data. I've fixed permissions, verified disc, tried booting in a safe mode, and reinstalled Final Cut Pro. No change in behavior. So this appears to be a Leopard problem and not an application problem. So that's why I'm posting it here.
I've also cleared out all login items and even created a new user. Same results. Any suggestions?

    Try a Hard Reset:
Hold the Sleep/Wake button(top right) & the Home Button (circle below display) together at the same time until the phone turns off and once you see the apple logo appear let go of both buttons.
If issue remains after this you will need to back up and restore the iphone.

  • Time Machine stuck at "Looking for backup disk" after installing Windows 8 via Boot Camp

I've been backing up via Time Machine to an external USB drive and it's been working fine. I recenty installed Windows 8 via Boot Camp and now TM gets stuck forever at "Looking for backup disk...".
I've tried the following, to no avail:
Using "Select Disk" in TM preferences to re-select the disk
    Deleting /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist
    Running system maintenance via Onyx
    Resetting PRAM
Formatting the drive and setting it up for TM backups again
The Boot Camp partition is on the same drive as OS X (on a 180GB Intel 330 series SSD). During the Windows installation I re-formatted the partition as NTFS.
If I start OS X in Safe Boot mode, TM backups work. In Safe Boot mode, the NTFS partition isn't loaded so I suspect it has something to do with this. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I installed Paragon NTFS for Mac and it started working all of a sudden.

  • Migration Assistant stuck on "Looking for source..."

I just bought a new iMac today and I am trying to use Migration Assistant to move all my info on my Mac Pro to my new machine. The problem is that the Migration Assistant is getting stuck at the "Looking for source" step, trying to find my old Mac with no success.
Yes, I've searched for other posts about this issue and I've looked at a number of support.apple.com articles about this. The discussions closest to my problem all have some issue that isn't present for me. Here's a bit of information that may or may not be pertinent to what's going on:
One support article said that the source Mac had to be running at least OS X 10.6.8. My old mac is running 10.7.5.
Neither Mac is running with the firewall turned on.
I did not use Time Machine with my old Mac, and it is turned off on both Macs.
I have run Software Update on both Macs and everything is up-to-date.
I also tried setting up a wireless computer-to-computer connection. I created the network on my old Mac, and was able to connect just fine through Finder on my new iMac. Running Migration Assistant, however, I could not see my old Mac's network and, as for clicking on "Other Server" button in the Assistant, I can say I would know how to specify that network's address given the format afp://Server/ShareName/. For the sake of argument, let's say the network's name was "oldMac". I did try entering "oldMac" for "Other Server" and then "afp://oldMac" and neither of those worked.
One other thing. I do have an Apple TV. I don't see why this should interfere, but I am able to view and play my music and movies on my TV, so apparently the Apple TV can see the old Mac fine as well. And no, the Apple TV was not on while trying to migrate my data.
    TIA,
    bob

    Ok, more updates.
In my old Mac (Pro) I have several hard drives installed. I was able to create a Time Machine back-up to a non-system HD. I plan on removing this volume and putting it in an external enclosure as soon as I can find the right cables for that enclosure. Meanwhile....
I saw on one support doc an instruction to open Sharing on the source Mac (my old one, in this case) and make sure the machine had a name specified. I already had done that, but noticed that a specific name based on that was mentioned for other computers to contact it. For example, if my source machine is named "myOldMac", other computers could address is at "myOldMac.local".
I connected the two computers directly via an Ethernet cable and I ran Migration Assistant again. When I got to the "Looking for source" screen, I clicked the button for "Other Server" and entered "afp://myOldMac.local". This actually found my old Mac. I was prompted to enter the password for the account "root". I changed the name to my account's short name -- "raboyle" not "Robert Boyle" -- and entered the correct password and I actually got a list of volumes to access. In the list were: the hard drives (by volume name), the home folders of the user accounts, and the Public Folders for each user account.
I tried accessing both my boot volume and the home folder for my primary account, and proceeded to a screen with the following text: "Choose which backup to transfer information from:". The list provided, however, was empty. On the chance that it was looking specifically for a Time Machine backup, I then specifically chose the HD volume with the backup I had just created. Again, the list to choose where to grab my data from was empty.
So, at least I'm advancing a little bit beyond the "Looking for source" screen ... but then again, since I hit yet another roadblock I can't say whether I've taken one step forward or two steps back.

I'm going to assume during the install setup of Windows, you deleted the partition made by Apple and created your own and formatted in NTFS. This is probably the cause as to what happened.
    Try this:
    1. backup anything you did in Windows 8.
    2. In Boot Camp, remove the Windows Partition. Reboot when prompted.
    3. Try and see if Time Machine works again.
If its working, create a bootcamp partition and re-install Windows. Do not delete the partitions that Boot Camp created. See if TM works again after that.

  • Looking for BPA training in EMEA

    Hi all,
I am looking for courses or other events providing in-depth training of the BPA tool.
Living in Norway so events should be held in Europe.
Have been looking for it a while now, without any luck.
Does anyone of you know of a scheduled/planned event that targets BPA and that will provide good insight in its use?
    Regards,
    Bjarte Krüger Engedal

    Hi Bjarte,
There is a new BPA class called "Oracle BPA Suite: Model and Implement Business Processes" being rolled out right now. Unfortunately the only class planned in Europe will be run in German, but you could contact your local Oracle office and ask what the upcomming plans for Norway (or Scandinavia) are.
You can find more information on the training at Oracle University's web [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/show_desc.redirect?dc=D70464GC10&p_org_id=34&lang=D&source_call=]

  • Looking for A Replacement iPhone 4S Battery

    Hello-
I am told by my boss at Liberty Unive where I will be teaching 4 courses in the online courses and the online program in the Human Servises for the graduate MA graduate program in Health & Wellness.  With having to deal with getting to know the iPhone 4s and other specific areas on the webplatform, I need advice in helping me select a iPhone 4S batery that will aloow me to have more video/picture taking time.  Does anybody know of an item using the iPhone 4S that will allow me to have the freedom to stick to a battery for the still pictures and a battery that will charge quickly and alow me to use it for the HD videos?
I also need to use a high-quality LifeProof type case where the battery can stick out, but also have the freedon to select the HD video battery for the HD videos?
I would appreciate it if there is any way if anybody knows if Life proof has a quality Case for the iPhone 4S but also use the Life Proofcase and also use the LifeProof case with the Battery for extra pictures, HD videos, using the video and the battery that will aloow me to have extra time in using this extra time using the extra rechargable battery?  I need the HD video to shoot HD videos that will give me the extra time I need.  I really need the professional HD plasma retina video but when the battery is losing its "strenrth" I can turn on the HD video , shoot some more videos and get the same quality of HD videos I have been able to produce in the past.
any sugggestions from this company LifeProof, and  see the quality of videos in HD produced.
I hope the qualith will all turn out OK, but I am having my doubts and might need a more quality extended battery from LifeProof.
thanks for any suggestions without making it too complicated.  it is not worth losing professional HD video shooters in producing these videos.
Thanks for staying with me and trying to help me find the right combination in producing the high-quality HD videos that I need throughout the videos.  any thoughts on continiuing to take the HD videos using the Best HD videos.
thanks.  Open to suggestions on how I can keep the quality, not lose the HD qhality

it is applet again.  what lifeproof case do you have that you like so much.  The problem with lifeproof is the same as I posted on the other thread.  they are durable but the plastic they use makes the case look kind of cheezy, I need the case to be durable like LifeProof but much better looking like Speck or BallisticCaseCo.com I think has some super durable cases and ai can leave on the CEO's desk for meetings.
Tell me about the mophie juice pack.  is that and extra battery pack?  I was wondering if they make a more durable batter for the iPhone 5 that I can replace with the battery that came with the iPhone.
How long have you had the iPhomne 5?  Any issues with it yet?  Have you read all the probllems peopel are having with what appears to be the first batch that shipped out?

  • What to look for in a battery

I was browsing ebay for a batter and charger to pick up while I wait for my Incredible to get here.  I'm curious if there are specific specs or anything I need to look for in a replacement battery.

it's not "supposedly" a risk, it is a risk, cheap batteries are not just name brand batteries with a different lable, they are inferiorly made, and can have a lower output than they are supposed to or they will have inferior regulation circuitry and will overheat (for one of many reasons) and start on fire. **bleep** ion batteries rely on this circuitry to keep charge/discharge rates low enough and keep them from discharging all the way. any of these conditions will cause the fire these batteries were notorious for just a few years ago.

I recently purchased the mSecure app for the same purpose but cannot get it to sync with the desktop version via wifi as it is supposed to do. Support response from mSecure has been good but still no luck syncing. All of these types of apps require syncing via wi-fi but not much good if it doesn't work. I've tried all of the suggested work-arounds to no avail. Any suggestions would be welcome. I'm trying to sync to a Windows laptop. I'm reluctant to use the same type of apps that back up to an online storage site for security purposes.
