Battery will not power on my computer

I just bought a new battery and power adapter. The power cord works fine but my battery is fully charged if I pull the power adapter out while the computer is on the computer goes dead. I can not turn on my computer without the power adapter. Everything works great with power cord attached.

These are the four most common possibilities when the battery will not charge (in the order of from most common to least common):
(1) there is something wrong with your battery
(2) there is something wrong with your power adapter
(3) there is something wrong with your power input board (the part that contains the port where you plug in the adapter)
(4) there is something wrong with your logic board
Have you tried resetting the PMU? A charging problem may certainly be corrected by performing that procedure.
Have you tried switching adapters with one you know is working to make certain it isn't your adapter? (My husband and I have, between us, worn out four of them.)
Your power input (DC-in) board (the part of the computer which houses the adapter port) may be going bad if it sometimes will charge the battery and sometimes won’t. Sometimes it will work intermittently before quitting entirely. When a DC-in board quits working, the computer will run fine from the battery, but won't run from the adapter, and the adapter will no longer charge the battery. To diagnose a bad DC-in board, you need to make sure it isn't the battery or the adapter at fault by swapping out first one and then the other, If it runs from a known good charged battery okay, but won't run from a known good adapter, then you are going to have to replace the power input board.
Usually, if it is a logic board problem, the iBook simply will not run from the battery. This happened to mine. The battery showed up in the battery status indicator. It was recognized by the computer and charged by the adapter (as shown by the battery status indicator). However, when I unplugged the adapter from the iBook, it was just like pulling the power cord from the wall on a desktop. The iBook immediately shutdown. Dead.
My husband’s problem was quite obviously the power input board because the adapter tip had broken off in the port. Often (and, sadly, in our case), this damages the power input board so that it no longer functions, necessitating replacement of the board as well as the broken adapter.
I hope something here gives you some ideas of what may be wrong in your case.

It was working fine until I advanced music track. Received a low battery notice, and it went dark...The battery had been fully charges earlier. I can't get the computer to even recognize it, or charge, or anything. It just seems dead. Any ideas guys...???
    Thank you...!!!

    1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
    2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

  • Battery will not power iPod. Goes dead as soon as AC is disconnected.

I pod nano goes dead as soon as unplugged from AC. Probably needs new battery. Where can this be repaired?

Either through a 3rd party site such as http://www.ipodjuice.com or http://www.iresq.com or you can do it through Apple.

  • Powerbook will not power on

    Hi folks.
What led to this problem is this: My AC adapter cord broke and while I was waiting for a new adapter to arrive, I left the computer on and the battery ran down. So after a week the new adapter came and I plugged it in and... nothing. Not a blip, whir, buzz...nothin'. My battery has little charge so it will not power on the computer on it's own. I thought maybe the AC adapter was not working but I have since tried another adapter and still no response.
I tried the procedure to reset the Power Management control; but it failed to work. That is, I took out the battery, unplugged the AC and then held down the start for 5 seconds. No response.
How do I raise my Powerbook from the 'dead'?

Hi, Ddale. Remove the main battery and leave the AC adapter connected to the computer for five or six hours. Then try starting the machine up on AC power. If that works, it will be because you've recharged the Powerbook's internal backup battery, which went flat while your AC adapter was disconnected and the main battery was drained. If a drained main battery is present, it can take up to 48 hours to recharge the backup battery. Removing the main battery lets it happen much faster, in four or five hours. A drained backup battery can prevent a Mac from starting up, even when AC power is available.
If the machine still doesn't start up after you've given the backup battery time to recharge, reset the Power Manager and try again.
Once you get the machine running, reinstall the main battery and let it charge up normally.

  • My ipad will not power on after update. I have tried connecting to computer which doesn't recognize it. I have pushed top and circle buttons at same time. It had a battery charge before it died.  I tried to stop the upload and am afraid it 'crashed'

My first genteration ipad will not power on after update. I have tried connecting to the authorized computer which won't recognize it - does not acknowledge a device is plugged in. I have pushed top and circle buttons at same time. It had a battery charge before it died.  I tried to stop the upload midway and am afraid it 'crashed'

Try putting it into recovery mode.
Connect iPad to your computer via USB while it's turned on.
    Open iTunes
Hold the iPad's Sleep/Wake switch (power button on the top of the iPad) down until the "power off" slider appears.
Power off the iPad completely (wait for the progress spinner to disappear).
Hold the Sleep/Wake switch AND the Home button down for a full 10 seconds.
After 10 seconds (the second time you'll see the Apple logo on the screen) release the Sleep/Wake switch while still holding the Home button.
Continue to hold the Home button for another 10 seconds until the USB connection image appears on the iPad's screen, then release the Home button.
A pop-up message will appear on iTunes saying it has detected an iPad in recovery mode, you must restore...
Click on the "Restore" button and the process will begin.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Macbook Pro will not power on without battery installed

    Hi there,
I have a Macbook Pro A1226 that fails to power on without a battery installed.
i.e. will not run off AC power on its own. I have tried 2 other power adapters, no change. All 3 adapters are outputting the correct voltage without fluctuations.
But, if I am in OSX with a battery plugged in, shutdown the laptop, remove the battery while AC is still plugged in, it will power back on without any issues. But as soon as I remove the battery, it will not power back on using just AC.
Is this an I/O board issue, or a mainboard?
I have power drained the unit and reset the parameter ram.
    Thanks

Any update on this? This is the same thing that's going on with my laptop right now. I was at the Genius Bar and they said they can send it in for repair. Takes 7-9 days and costs a minimum of $310. At the time I was there, my computer wouldn't start up at all, because the battery had drained to less than 20%. It didn't even start with just the power cord (no battery in). The "genius" finally got it to work by doing a PRAM and SMC reset. Got home and was able to recharge my battery to 100%. Used my computer for 2 days before I dared to take it off the power supply. Lo and behold, as soon as I take it off the power cord, then re-connect it, it shows "Not Charging". I tried to do SMC again, but no luck. Keeps saying "not charging". Even tried with a brand new battery. Do I have to get the I/O board thingy replaced?

  • Macbook Pro shut down because the battery power ran out. Now I cannot start it and the battery will not charge. Only one green battery charge light lights up and blinks.

My Macbook Pro shut down because the battery power ran out. Now I cannot start it and the battery will not charge. Only one green battery charge light lights up and blinks on the left side. I am running Lion. How do I get this to charge and turn on? Thanks

If your model Macbook Pro is the calibrating model, let the battery calibrate.
If not, and are still under warrant or have Apple Care, give them a call and get a case number.  Otherwise, take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • G7 will not power on with battery at 100%

I just bought a new battery because the one that was in said it was charging but the windows app always said 0% charge so I bought a new one. It's needed  a  new one for a year, so  I put the new one in and let it charge up until windows app in the corner said it was at 97% not charging. I unplugged and it was like  there was no battery in at all. I plugged the power cord in and I was at the windows shutdown error startup.
Ain't nobody got time for that. Your help is greatly appreciated.

My G4 will not power up.  I installed a new battery and still nothing.  Help.

Try taking out the main battery and letting the PB sit turned off but plugged into wall power for 24-48 hours. Then reinstall the main battery and try a start.
When you try to start it, do you get any sounds, like the Mac "chimes" or hear the hard drive or optical drive spin up? If you get those sounds, try holding teh SHIFT key during startup; keep holding until you see a desktop and then lt go the key. Don't try using the comptuer at this point--it won't have all needed extensions loaded. Simply try a normal start to see fi that gets a regular desktop,
Do you have the system install/restire disks that came with the computer, or retail install disk? Both are bootable. Try booting from one of those optical disks. Hold the c key to force booting from the optical drive.
