Battery won't charge when I switch outlets

Hi
I have the following problem with my macbook: It charges fine, but when I unplug the charger and plug it into a different outlet it doesn't charge, and if I try any other outlets it does not charge. What fixes the problem is that if I take out the battery and hold down the power button for ten seconds it will charge fine, I found this out at the apple store. However now I have to do this every time the battery decides to stop charging. Is this a hardware or logic board issue? I would love to get some help because this is very annoying and I think it may progress and get worse. Here is my power info:
Model Information:
Manufacturer: DP
Device name: ASMB016
Pack Lot Code: 0002
PCB Lot Code: 0000
Firmware Version: 0110
Hardware Revision: 0500
Cell Revision: 0102
Charge Information:
Charge remaining (mAh): 3966
Fully charged: No
Charging: No
Full charge capacity (mAh): 4532
Health Information:
Cycle count: 131
Condition: Normal
Battery Installed: Yes
Amperage (mA): -1438
Voltage (mV): 12060

It could be a logic board problem, it could also be a battery or AC adapter problem. You'll have to take it to an AASP or Apple store to have someone run the AC adapter and battery diagnostic on it to rule those out. If those aren't at issue, then it's almost certainly a logic board issue.

  • Macbook Pro Late 2013 - Battery won't charge when asleep

I recently bought a new rMBP. I started charging at 3% one night and put it to sleep before closing the lid. The next morning, the battery light was green (it was orange the night before) so opened it up wanting to shut it down before heading to work. To my surprise, the battery percentage was STILL at 3%. I shut down the machine, turned it back on -- still 3%. So it wasn't a display glitch.
Does anyone have any idea what happened here? From what I know, the battery should be charging while asleep and even when the lid is closed. The fact that it didn't but had the green light, is really off. Is it the machine or what am I doing wrong?
    Please help! Thanks.

  • Battery won't charge when MBP is open?

My battery has stopped taking charge when my late 09 MBP is open, this is a recent thing thinking synically is is after I've updated to 10.8.5 which I hope has not played a part.
My batttery has a Cycle Count of 1223 which i've read is very good, I';m using a non apple charger now but this has been fine.
When the charger is plugged in the light is green on the charger and computer states that battery is not charging and power source is adapter but when the battery decharges the machine powers off regardless of the fact it's plugged in and I have to close the lid and wait for the battery to recharge and this is the bit I dont understand?
I've ordered a new battery of ebay as I have tried another apple charger and the same thing happens.
    Any help or ideas???

You have done better than the 'up to 1000 cycles' that Apple advertises, thus have no cause for complaint.  A new battery is in order.  Using a non-Apple charger is not a wise choice.  All too often they create problems and can have adverse affects on your MBP.
I've ordered a new battery of ebay as I have tried another apple charger and the same thing happens.
Again a questionable proposition.  There have been too many tales of woe from users installing batteries from e-bay.  Some last a month, some a week, some a day or two and some simply don't work.  Yes Apple batteries are expensive, but you do get a warranty and a company that will back it up.
Luck has been with you so far.  I hope it continues.
    Ciao.

  • Macbook Pro 2009 Battery won't charge when plugged in

So recently i've experienced a problem in which my Macbook Pro 15 inch (2009 model A1286) would not charge even while plugged in. So i thought the problem was that my battery had to be serviced for a while now and it said it wouldn't harm my computer so i used it for a bit longer and finally bought a new replacement battery. After installing this NEW battery the same problem still occurs. While going on like youtube or listening to music the computer would flash green for a bit, say "battery is not charging" then go back to orange but the percentage would slowly decrease instead of the opposite. I've tried the SMC reset but the problem still occurs. I am using an 85W magsafe power adapter which is the correct charger for my model so I don't believe that is the issue because i've been using this same charger for a couple years and nothing like this has happened before. One thing i've noticed is that while in the system profiler section I see that the AC charger information only shows that i am using 60W but on the charger it clearly states 85W. Any solutions would be appreciated this has been driving me crazy and i already invested in a new battery I would really like a solution that doesn't require me to buy more stuff. Thank you.

Try a friends charger to rule out the charger (or visit an Apple store to try one there).  Perform the SMC reset again and also reset the PRAM

  • Battery won't charge

I had my MBP for 3-4 months now. My problem is that the battery won't charge when it has more than a certain persent. If it goes red (the battery indicator on top), then it charges to 100% but before it charges to 100% the light blinks green, amber, green, amber (like the one mention a few post before mine). When its at (lets say) 85%, it won't charge, all I get is a green light from the magsafe indicator and its stuck there. The persent indicator on the screen doesnt move as well, I also check the led indicator at the bottom of the battery, one led is not lit. I did the reset the PMU as well as battery calibration it didnt help. I'm down to like ~ 4200 mAh. It has like 11 charges since I got this, age of the machine is 4 months. So I can't call apple to ask for help unless I want to pay like $56 for a week of tech support or buy the applecare (I only have 90 days of telephone support, and it ended a couple of weeks ago). Any way I can email apple or something?

Because it says invalid. Apparently, they forgot to put a "it must start with 6N"
The website should say (according to the apple tech):
    Identifying your battery
The affected batteries have model number A1175 and a 12-digit serial number that begins with 6N and ends with U7SA, U7SB or U7SC. To view the model and serial numbers located on the bottom of the battery, you must remove the battery from the computer. The battery serial number is located above the barcode. See photos below. Only batteries within the noted serial number ranges need to be exchanged.
    Edit, it says:
One or more of your serial numbers didn't validate.
Please check the serial number and try again. Or, in the United States, call 800-275-2273 between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. PST for further assistance. For other countries, please use our contact page to find the appropriate support number.

  • My iPad2 won't charge when plugged into an outlet.

My iPad 2 won't charge when plugged into an outlet. I've tried 12W and 10W original Apple iPad chargers as well as iPhone 4 chargers. It charges (very slowly) when I plug it into my laptop but I've tried every outlet in my house and at work with no success. So I am stumped as to why it won't work in two completely different locations when plugged into the outlet - because it's obviously not the charger, cable or the iPad batter.
I've tried blowing out dust from the port, resetting my iPad (holding down the home and power buttons at the same time) and jiggling the cable.
Note: I am still on iOS 6 so upgrading my OS isn't the issue.
I would appreciate any assistance with this as it's very frustrating!

If it will charge when connected to the computer, but very slowly, typical of a low power USB port, but will not charge with the chargers you have tried, the issue is then most likely with the chargers.  However, to be sure, take the iPad and charger and cable to an Apple store genius bar and have the technicians test them to see where the problem is occuring.

It sounds very very much like the battery. You will need to have it replaced. If you put the failing one in yourself you will need to pay as your Warranty is now void.

  • Battery won't charge but will run on power adapter

My macbook pro is less than 1 month old and it won't charge when plugged in but will run on the power adapter. The problem started a few days ago and I have tried many different outlets.

    Reset SMC.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
If resetting SMC does not help, you have to take the MBP to the Apple store to have it checked.
    Best.

  • Battery won't charge - yet another

Recently, I decided that I would start using my Lombard again out of the house. It works fine on the AC adapter.
First thing I did was replace the small PRAM battery. Then I noticed my old batteries would not charge(they were both over 5 years old). So I reset everything, all the usual stuff. Nothing.
So I bite the bullet a go buy and new battery. It wont charge in OS X or 9.
I rebooted(reset PRAM) several times. Switched to OS 9 and used the Battery Reset application. No luck. I guess this is a common condition of our old Lombards.
JPL mentions in a previous post that there are 4 cards that affect battery charging.
Elizabeth English, "G3 laptop battery won't charge up", 07:01pm Oct 27, 2005 CDT
    charge card
    PMU board
    power supply card
    logic board
Has anyone replaced any of these (except the logic board)? I am curious as to ball park prices. I don’t think the logic board replacement price could be justified. But if the other cards are reasonable maybe.
I am really thinking that it may be time for a new Powerbook.

    Hi JPL,
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
The machine does recognize that there is a battery(in both bays). I have tried a few battery measurement apps(x-charge and capacity meter) and they both see the battery. But they both say that the battery is not charging. Also no X in the menu bar.
It had a tiny bit of charge when I bought it. (as indicated by the lights on the side). Butt wont run the Lombard not even for a second.
I should clarify "storage" situation. I had been using the Lombard every so often but on AC only. Because the other 2 batteries had died and I assumed they just died because of the natural life that all batteries have. It is possible that the charging issue has was there before. I wasn't sure that I wanted to invest anything more into the Lombard so I had waited to buy a new battery.
It is possible that it is defective. It is an Apple M7318 battery. I had been told by a few other dealers that these batteries were no longer available and they could order in a 3rd party battery. So when I found a dealer with an Apple battery I went right down and bought it. They are a reputable dealer.
I even asked the guy a few times. Is it new? And he said yes.
Unfortunately I don't know anyone with a Lombard or Pismo any more.
    One final note.
Capacity Meter "tells" me that the battery condition is very poor. And that capcity is 0/4600. I assume that means milliAmps. Does that mean the battry is dead?

  • Battery Won't Charge & Can't Update OSX Beyond 10.4.6

I'm a relatively new Macbook user, so any insight would be helpful.
    Here's my plight:
My battery won't charge, so I called AppleCare and they told me to download the latest FIRMWARE for the battery. (This is after re-setting the battery, and pressing the button located on the BACK of the battery, hoping to get the three-or-four green lights... I'm getting nothing).
I came here and downloaded a battery fix/update - the problem is that the battery fix requires my OS to be 10.4.8.... I have 10.4.6... And I can't log onto the internet (another 'fun' issue) through my Macbook in order to download anything beyond 10.4.6....
So, now, I downloaded 10.4.7 from the apple website, off my Windoze PC, yet when I try to load 10.4.7 on my Macbook, the set-up goes through the motions, then STOPS after I ACCEPT the terms, and tells me that I don't have a (I'm paraphrasing) proper HD to store the updated version.
No more than two months ago I had to get a new HD (after only having my MacBook for six months) and I'm not looking to get another one...
Since the root of my issues stem from me not being able to upgrade... Any thoughts on how to upgrade, even though I can't connect my Macbook to the net?

    Hello Breejumpp,
Try Reset ( No Data will be lost )
Press and Hold the On/Off switch (On top your iPhone) and the Home Button (Button at the bottom of your iPhone screen). Hold both the keys simultaneously for atleast 10 to 15 seconds and you should see an Apple Logo coming up on your screen, once you see the Apple logo you can then release oth On/Off switch and Home button and wait for your iPhone's Home screen.

My ipod was out of batteries, so I charged it, but no matter how long I left it for, it wouldn't get past the 20% battery line.

Take to an Apple store or Apple certified repair shop. When a battery won't charged, it's time to replace it.

  • MBA battery does not charge when connected. Help!

My MBA battery does not charge when connected to the charger. Ive checked the other threads and followed advice but nothing seems to help.. My battery health info is good, I've tried cleaning the magnetic pins of the charger, reset smc but it still does not charge. The light on the charger is green or does not come on sometimes, and it's the same for a few Power outlets. What else can I do? Would greatly appreciate any help! Thanks.

It recognizes the charger intermittently. After cleaning, it showed the charger as connected but not charging the battery. I will try my friends charger later to see if it works. Thanks for your help!
