Battery X persists after I replaced the batter

I have the first revision black macbook. About a month ago the battery died abruptly. It wasn't recognized. Just the X in the battery icon. I ordered a new one. 10 days later it finally arrived. I started charging it up and almost immediately the X returned to the icon. Despite this, the battery appears to be charging, unlike the old one. There is a little button on the bottom of the battery that, when pushed, will occasionally briefly restore the percentile change in the icon, and little green LED lights appear, but it seems to go off spontaneously.
Meanwhile, I found out the battery would have been replaced free of charge under an extended warranty. So I now have two batteries that are problematic.
This is really quite frustrating. Am I missing anything obvious? I reset the pram but that did no good. I installed the new firmware on the old battery that was released about 6 months ago. That also did not help.

did u try the power management..
shutdown take the batt out and hold the power button for about 10 secs.. put back together and reboot.
if it is a batt problem both will be in warranty. though id try for a refund for the newest one..
replacement of batteries depends on charge cycles though so watch out.. call apple first.
it does seem strange that two are gone so quick take the macbook in to a store to get it looked at if its under a year old its still in warranty

My iphone will not turn on after I replaced the battery, itunes logo comes up, but it will not connect and does not reset! does anyone know what I can do?

Who replaced the battery, you, Apple or an Authorized Apple Service Provider? If you did it yourself, then you could have done anything to disable it. It also voids any warranty and post-warranty support from Apple and the forum. You are on your own. If Apple or an Authorized Apple Service Provider replaced it, then take it back and have them check it.
The iPhone does not have a user replaceable battery, or user serviceable parts. It is meant to only be serviced by Apple, or authorized service providers.

You can only obtain warranty OR post warranty service in the country of original purchase
As your iPhone has user damage it has no warranty
IF the iPhone originated from Spain or another EU country you can get out of warranty service in any EU country

  • MacBook RSD persist AFTER Mobo replacement.

So I got this RSD thing from June, sent to Apple Hong Kong for repair in mid July and just got my book back last week (you can see how long it took to service your mac in descriminated asia market).
they replace the mobo... and everything look good until just know... I starte my machine, opened firefox and start to read the 2nd tab... Boom... RSD... restart... before the Apple Logo shows up ... Boom.. again ... RSD....
so basically the new Mobo do nothing..
I'm going back to London this weekend, and will ask for a replacement (man i bought this darn thing brand new and just used for 1 month so far??? the new macbook is coming out and i didnt really have a chance to use the old one i paid for !) or start a new site www.macsucks.com lol... i dun mean 2 b a hater but...
anyway.. jst to let u guys no... mobo replacement doesnt necessary fix ur crappy macbook.

Yeah, I'm not getting it. I had my MacBook for 4 months, then last Tuesday got two RSDs, each shortly after sleep when the machine was, first time, stone cold, second, still cool but warmer after having operated a little longer after sleep. I was assured by people who had the RSD problem that it could turn up any time, even after 4 months, and that once it started it would accelerate quickly, within a few days becoming quite common and maybe unbootable without holding down the power button to start it into safe mode. It's been a full week, and... nothing. Not another RSD, under the same usage conditions.
I didn't take it in because it was going to be impossible to reproduce for the technician at the Apple Store, and because, frankly, it's just not that much of a problem at this time. Now I'm reading yet again that the revised parts are not fixing the problem.
Then this guy Takeshi has been experimenting via OS X with how and when his MacBook turns on and speeds up the fans, and he's got his formerly RSDing MacBook running stable, full processor speed, at normal temperatures. And most people here call him an idiot. But his experiment tends to indicate the RSD is a problem with the way the MacBook handles the expected heating up of the computer. There has already been one firmware update from Apple acknowledging that there is a problem with the way the software in firmware responds to heat detection. Yet we are so sure this is still not a firmware issue, code in the firmware that was not revised by the first update?
Yes I know a lot of people are saying, 5 days with revised parts and no RSD! Yay! But as I recall people receiving repair with the old parts would get their MacBooks back and have 5 days, 10 days, 20 days with no RSD -- until it returned.

  • The battery of my iPod Touch 4g is ending very fast .. This battery can Hooking? Has Replacing the battery?

    Pleaseeeeeeeeee HELP MEEEE

Apple will replace your iPod with a refurbished one for $79 (USA) or you could do a Google search on "replace iPod battery" for a local or on line repair place that will replace the battery for less.  You can even find a replacement battery (same search) and replace it yourself if you're up to it.

  • My ipod has been dropped and dented on the side and screen cracked. after i replace the screen will it still work?

    any ideas?

Dropping an iPod + a dent on one side is no big deal at all
It can be a bid deal if the size(dimensions) of the iPod has changed. Although chances of that happening are very less or even 1 in a million; so you can very well go ahead and replace the screen.
I am taking into consideration that the touch function still works - even with the shattered screen!
    Good Luck.

  • After having replaced the iMac hard drive I no longer can make iTunes security backups from my iPhone 4S?

After having had my iMac's hard drive replaced (had a defect 1 TB Seagate) and the 10.8.2 reinstalled, I no longer can make security backups from my iPhone 4S. iTunes simply tells me that the backup cannot be saved on my computer (which it has done numerous times prior the replacement of the hard drive). Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Click the green jelly button at top left of iTunes window to resize the screen to fit.

  • T61 sudden shut down after I replaced the fan

I was getting a fan error (that was preventing the unit from booting), so I ordered a replacement.
On installing it last night, everything seemed fine. Unit ran fine for 20m then Bam! sudden shutdown.
This morning, same thing, both witht the battery installed and with it out.
I have to suspect the fan, but I presume the unit wouldn't even boot if the fan was not working.
any suggestions for diagnosing the issue?
    many thanks

    Difficult to say...
Theory says system shutdowns automatically to avoid permanent damage, but if you tried to run it several times...
Anyway a new CPU won't cost you much. Try again once the thermal paste is reapllied.
I hope you're using the HMM and following the steps described there. Don't forget to tell us the machine type number (see my post above)
    Good luck!

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • TS1363 The "ipod has been detected but could not be identified properly...." message occurs when I plug it in.  This started happening after having replaced the hard drive and operating system.  Is there any way to fix this problem?  I have tried all the

Ever since having to replace my hard drive on my laptop and also the operating system, I cannot get my ipod to work with my laptop.  I continually get this message.  I have tried every troubleshooting procedure repeatedly and also have tried all the posts on the support communities.  Can anyone help?

Nevermind that first part as I forgot that nothing shows up for the Nano at all in Device Manager,
The 2nd half of my reply still applies:
Otherwise, try uninstalling all USB root controlllers from your system, rebooting your PC, and reconnecting your Nano. This root controller drivers will automatically be re-installed upon reboot.

  • Steps after you replace the hard drive and add RAM

I like to tear things apart. I'm gonna put a bigger HD in my 12" G4 powerbook (160GB), and boosting the RAM. Got the physical stuff down. Not a computer operator type at all though. So when I fire this puppy back up, is there hard drive partitioning to do, do ya have to hold down the C key while it boots up. Anybody got a link that walks ya through the steps. Gonna do the same to my black macbook 2 GHz intel machine and lookin for an "after" link for that as well.
    Thanks in advance,
    JC

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
You have a couple of choices. If you have an external hard drive with a firewire connection that has a bootable backup, hold the option key down when you boot up, it will show you that drive, choose it, and it will boot from it. Bring up disk utility, choose the new hard drive, erase it, giving it a name and choosing mac OS X extended (journaled). You can then highlight the drive name you just created, and under Partition check to ensure under options that it's the Apple partition map. If you only want one partition for the whole drive, you can then use a program like SuperDuper to copy the contents of your external hard drive backup to the new internal hard drive.
If you have one of the TechTool programs, you may want to run the disk analysis to ensure the new hard drive checks out.
If you don't have a firewire-based external backup, use your original OS X disk to boot, and when the menu bar comes up, choose disk utility, erase/partition the drive, then continue with the installation. Then download the combo version of the latest OS X update for your Tiger/Leopard/etc version (the combo version has all prior updates), repair disk permissions, install the combo update, and repair disk permissions again. Then do your software update (click on the blue apple on the menu bar) to pick up any other upgrades you need. The reason to install the combo update is sometimes software update flubs the install, and you don't need to deal with weird issues with the base OS X system.

  • TS4088 What happens if problems persist after I install the patch?

I've installed the software patch a few times and find that for a few days to a few weeks the intermittent loss of video seems fixed, and then it will come back with several blackouts in a short span of time, which prompts me to install the patch again...
Anyway, I'm wondering if there's a chance that upgrading my OS will fix it? Or is it just time to go to Genius bar and be w/o my machine for a while?

    The information is here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4088
Changing OS will not solve the issue.  A genius bar appointment is the best option.
    Ciao.

  • Solution - Battery error is detected. Irreparable damage to the battery has been detected. Replace

I own a T61 7658 I bough on 2008, it worked great with the default power settings until October 22nd I decided to change my power profile to MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE.
Next day I received on Message Center...
10/23/2010 - Battery health is critical. With the current system settings and a full charge, your battery can provide approximately 3.0 hours of use. A new battery could provide up to an estimated 5.5 hours.
I kept using the Laptop with the Max performance until...
11/12/2010 - Battery error is detected. Irreparable damage to the battery has been detected. Replace the battery with a new one.
I have used IBM/Lenovo  for years and even had used batteries for 5 years without a single issue.
I have read many posts of people having the same problem not only with T61s, but many other Lenovo models, and also read posts of Lenovo's administrators suggesting this is normal and justifying that batteries should be good for at least 12 months and after that we are on own, basically meaning we should be thankful in name of our own safety that we had that battery protection and we must replace it at our own cost and forget about it.  That is a very easy way out, isn’t it.
But certainly, not only batteries with more than 12 months are failing, even new batteries are and have been replaced with multiple exchange programs posted by Lenovo in their website just as in http://download.lenovo.com/lenovo/content/batt/082009/LandingPage.html. and also in multiple MIGR battery replacement campaigns available to all online as well.
Good thing here is that Lenovo has recognized the problem and has exchange the batteries still under warranty and also few of the batteries without warranty limiting to some serial numbers on the MIGR battery replacement campaigns, but the bad side is that Lenovo is leaving behind other clients like me and many others not being selected for replacement.  But I’m sure we all have a good battery but turned useless due to the Lenovo programmed safety temperature limits in the power manager and the battery board.  Please let me explain.
This is my conclusion.  There is nothing wrong with used or new batteries or their cells in 99% of the cases, I'm sure my battery is okay although is being turned useless by the battery protection feature on my T61.
Lenovo must recognize the problem is the settings they have programmed on the power manager and battery protection board. It is very understandable that when users select a Power Scheme that demands higher amounts of power to generate better performance on the system this also demand additional power generating heat on battery and on the power supply as the computer is running at full performance, just as happens on my ipod when watching video, or in my kid’s R/C truck when running continuously and will happen with any other battery powered device.
Therefore any scheme requiring performance is generating heat and is tripping the battery protection and this is not a client’s fault, as are we just using an available scheme provided on our Lenovo system. If the battery protection is not calibrated to support this power demand, then there is a poor design/testing of the capabilities of the system and the battery protection parameters that instruct the battery to save itself from a fire or burning … which is understandable.
The bad side is that there is not possible reset option for the end users, the only option is to buy a new battery at our own cost after the 12 months of warranty, when the cause of the problem is originated in the computer system design settings and can happen at any time, that is way, the system warned me, as in:
10/23/2010 - Battery health is critical. With the current system settings and a full charge, your battery can provide approximately 3.0 hours of use. A new battery could provide up to an estimated 5.5 hours.
The computer is saying! At maximum performance, You are using too much power, and my battery will last just 3 hrs (9 cells on my system) instead of the 5.5 hrs that should last. But not only the running time was reduced, the heat on the power supply system and Battery was also increased due to the higher power demand, the battery can not handle the demand and protect itself to prevent fire or damage.
So who has to pay for this?  Can Lenovo do something about it? For us client and for future clients?  This not a matter of having or not having warranty, this can happen at any time in any computer.
I'm writing this hoping to be heard and supported and I hope LENOVO provides a satisfactory solution to the issue.  I'm not going to say will never buy Lenovo again I already did, I invested my money on Lenovo and with warranty or not I'm looking forward to get a decent response.
Lenovo must change the parameters for tripping battery protection probably handled at BIOS level, and to provide a reset feature to all "locked" batteries there is many people that has lost at least one battery, some other more than that.  Since even if we get a replacement, the chances  the issue will continue is there, as long as I select a high power demand scheme the problem sooner or later will be back.   Even car makers support their clients beyond the warranty if they detect that the issue compromises safety and their reputation.  Fix it.
