Battling claro-search. Address bar no longer displays "About Home". Instead I get "Go to Website" Problem?

I have been battling Claro-search. I have tried all displayed fixes including running Superantispyware and Malwarebytes. Every time I restart Firefox 16.0.1 the claro-search items show up in "About:config". My concern is that the address bar displays, "Go to Website" when it previously displayed "About Home". I have also tried to uninstall and reinstall firefox using a download from Mozilla site. Any suggestions? Thanks. Paul

• The web address bar no longer displays the url of the open tab, the refresh button doesn't work any longer, and the more time FF is open, the slower it eventually runs.

Downloaded FF4 a while back. Not the beta version. All seemed to work well for a while. Then the aforementioned problems began. I did not add any plugins or make any changes at all. Web site addresses do not show in tabs, and the refresh button is non-functional. After FF4 has been open a while, it begins to run slower and slower as if there is a memory leak.

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

• Clicking on the downward arrow at the right end of the location bar no longer displays the drop-down list of sites visited, bookmarks and addresses typed in location bar

Since I upgraded to Firefox version 3.6.10, clicking on the downward arrow at the right end of the location bar no longer displays the drop-down list of sites visited, bookmarks and addresses typed in location bar. My Tools > Options > privacy setting is to save history, and if I start typing a previously accessed website's address in the location bar, then the full address appears as a drop-down item. But not when I just click at the right end of the bar.

You can try "Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults" on the Safe mode start window.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See Troubleshooting extensions and themes and Troubleshooting plugins

• Using Firefox 4, the URL bar no longer displays the web address for my current web-site so I can't copy and paste links. Plus there's no refresh button.

I upgraded to Firefox 4 and so far I really don't like it, but I still would like to give it a chance. However, the URL address bar no longer shows the current address for websites that I surf into. So it makes sharing pages or emailing links next to impossible. In addition to that, there is no Refresh icon that I can find so I'm stuck just hitting F5 to refresh my page.
Short of downgrading, is there anyway I can change those particular issues?

That issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
* https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>Safe mode</u>:
* Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

• FF 3.6.6 :: Address Bar No Longer Works - Help?

After updating Firefox to version 3.6.6 on Windows XP SP 3, the address bar no longer works for navigating to pages. When entering any URL and pressing enter, the page reloads with google.com (which is my homepage in FF). Clicking some bookmarks works. However, navigating from search results in Google does not. I have tried reinstalling. Also, I have tried to start up in Safe Mode. Nothing helps. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Address Bar no longer works

The address bar no longer works when entering an address, or when selecting from recently visited sites, the only way I can visit a site is to use Google to find the URL and then click on it from the search results

Hello dwarde_2000, try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".<br>

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

• Search/address bar problem

whatever i put into the safari search/address bar it just loads the same page? I've restarted & flushed the cache, still the same?

Thats the one , I had an extension called Popsearch that handled all searches, been on there so long I'd forgotten about it.
Very grateful for all your help, Thanks.

• The address bar is not displaying the URL of the page

When I open a tab, I cannot see the URL of the opened page in it. If I enter a new address and press enter, I go to the page. The URL displays the entered URL, but doesn't change for the new pages that load.
Also, the back/forward buttons do not work. I'm guessing it's related to the address bar issue.

Found it! The "Redirect Remover" extension was causing the problem! Thanks for your help :)

• How do I get my address bar back? If I type in the URL of a website I need to navigate to, instead Mozilla is doing a Google Search and giving those results. How do I get the address bar back?

My address bar where I type in the URL has disappeared. I've searched through Help options, and found only one piece of moderately useful information (following) in Menu Reference. It is: "Open Location… Focuses on the Firefox URL bar so you can type in a new location to visit." However, Open Location is not included as a menu item in the File Tab in my Mozilla dropdown menu. I am not in Full Screen mode so that is not the problem! I think this may have happened last night when I went into Tools, then chose Options. I had been looking around to find out how to set up multiple tabs to open at Start-Up. Both Internet Explorer and Chrome have that option, and it's an important option to me. Firefox apparently does not over that feature, unfortunately. After looking through all the tab choices under Tools - Options, I went to the View menu, and chose Customize. I tried to add the Flexible Space icon, and it ended up being a mess so I had to remove those. The only thing I can think of is that it may have happened then, but I am not sure. I need my Address Bar back so that I can type in the URLS and just go to the websites.

Open Firefox -> Go to View -> Toolbars -> Chechmark on "Navigation Toolbar"
this will bring back your address bar (where you type links to go to websites :P )

• Why is my address bar no longer retaining past sites that I have visited?

My address bar used to save frequently used web addresses in a dropdown menu accessed by clicking on the down arrow at the very right of the address bar. Without warning, it now only retains the addresses I visit during a specific session. At the end of each session, the Dropdown memory is wiped clean. Why did this happen and how do I repair this huge inconvenience???

-> click Firefox button and click Options -> Privacy -> History section -> Firefox will: select "Use Custom Settings for History" -> REMOVE Checkmark from Permanent Private Browsing mode -> place Checkmarks on:
1) Remember my Browsing History 2) Remember Download History 3) Remember Search and Form History 4) Accept Cookies from sites 4a) Accept Third-party Cookies under Keep Until : select They Expire
-> REMOVE CHECKMARK from CLEAR HISTORY WHEN FIREFOX CLOSES
-> Click OK on Options window -> Restart Firefox
Check and tell if its working.
-> If you use Privacy Cleanup softwares like CCleaner, DON'T SELECT FIREFOX IN ITS SETTINGS. These softwares can be responsible for Deleting your Firefox Settings.

• How can I get the address bar to just display URLs?

With the newest update to Firefox when I type something in the address bar I get more search suggestions than URL suggestions. I only want URL suggestions and want to turn the search off completely. I've tried turning off the "keyword:enable" on the back end of Firefox and it still does not work. Is there a way to go back to just seeing URL's in the address bar?

I've seen a similar thing in another user's screen shot, but I can't seem to trigger it on my own Firefox.
Are you seeing search suggestions for possibly matching words/phrases pulled in real time from your preferred search engine (like the drop-down on the search bar), or history entries reflecting terms you previously searched for?
Do you use any extensions that modify how the address bar works?

• Address bar doesn't display correct link when I open a new tab from a previous page, it displays the linkof the original page

from a web page, right click on a link+open a new TAB. the link correctly opens in a new tab, but it is not displayed in the address bar.

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode?<br/> A troubleshooting mode.<br />
1.You can open the Firefox 4.0 SafeMode by holidng the Shft key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut. <br />
2. Or use the Help menu item, click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled... while Firefox is running. <br />

• Why is my address bar no longer using "predictive" (don't know the proper term) text anymore?

For example, if I type in a letter such as "f," in the address bar, why does it no longer bring up the options of websites that are saved in my history and bookmarks?
== I'm not sure, but I think it happened after I chose my new skin.

Make sure that the Location Bar is not set to "Nothing": Tools > Options > Privacy > Location Bar: When using the location bar, suggest: History,Bookmarks,History and Bookmarks - See Smart Location Bar

• Address bar too long, some addon icons are not revealed.

When addons are many, they aggregate to a small menu. This is very inconvenient. See pictures between firefox 30 and firefox 37
I tried to upload a image. In case I failed, see http://img.vim-cn.com/0b/310455fba225df5c97986cf270e6884a1fcde2.jpg

Does it has effect you you position the search bar right next to the location/address bar or temporarily move it to the "3-bar" Firefox menu button drop-down list (right-click the search engine: Move to Menu)?
Note that this can be caused by extensions that show variable data on the Navigation Toolbar, so if you notice any that behave like this then try to place them after the search bar.
Note that you can easily remove items from the Navigation Toolbar to the "3-bar" Firefox menu button drop-down list and back again via the right-click context menu.
If you right-click a toolbar item in normal (non-customize) mode then you can remove this item from the toolbar.
* "Remove from Toolbar" will remove this item from the Navigation Toolbar and moves it to the Customize palette ("3-bar" Firefox menu button > Customize)
* "Move to Menu" will move this item to the "3-bar" Firefox menu button drop-down list
* "Move to Toolbar" in the "3-bar" Firefox menu button drop-down list will move this item to the toolbar

• Address bar too long

How can I list addon icons in a row as in Firefox 30?
See attached picture for detail.
Update 1: If you customize icons, they will stand in a row, as expected. However they squeeze after firefox restart. Moving around search bar doesn't seem to help. When addon icons are too wide they seem to squeeze to a drop-down list automatically (after restart of firefox), regardless of what addons are there.
