Battling the World of PC networking with my MBP -and succumbing to bootcamp
Just bought a new wireless router (Linksys WRT54G) and of course like most routers, the install disc was PC only. search the web for a while to try to find a way to connect up without using the install disc and had some luck with google, but eventually locked myself out of my own network by accident, oops. Eventually I realized this would be so much easier if I just sucked it up and boote up with bootcamp and tried to configure. Needless to say I am currently writing you this from my new wireless network. So, for any future buyers of PC networking devices used with Macs, if you're as n00bish as me when it comes to that sort of stuff, suck it up and set it up on a PC before trying to log in with your mac, it will save you time and worry about having an faulty device with bad firmware. Just a heads up for us newbies.
The main thing here UrbanOne is that you managed to get online. I would argue that it's a roundabout way of doing it but hey, you got the result you wanted and that's the main thing
Setting up routers is really easy and, as I stated in my previous post, all one needs to do is fire up a Web browser, enter the router's IP followed by the username/password when prompted and your in. It's then simply a case of entering your ISP's details which you should have received in the form of a Welcome Pack through the mail.
Why didn't this work for you when you tried? I do not know without you describing each step you took prior to going down the Windows route
What would happen if other users did not have BootCamp installed or did not have a copy of MS Windows installed? Would they not be able to connect? Of course they would. Many already have without the use of MS Windows

How to setup wired network with G4, MBP and PC
Sorry to ask a bit of a stupid question here, but I've never had to network machines together so I'm starting from a knowledge level close to zero.
Situation. Old G4 (733) and new (intel) Mac Book Pro in one room. New PC (Dell) in another room with a wired router connected to internet. PC is also connected to a laserprinter. Hard wire ethernet cable running between the rooms to connect either the G4 or the MBP to the internet. Both the G4 and the MBP have only one ethernet connection. MBP is wireless, as is the PC. The G4 is not.
First off, I'd like to network the MBP and the G4. I believe ethernet is the best way to do this, but if I do that, how would I then connect to the internet? Would I just have a second router in the Mac room with the 2 Mac's hooked up to it and the other end going back to the router that's connected to the internet? I'd rather stay hard-wired than go wireless if at all possible. I do most of my internet work through the MBP, but some must be done through the G4, ie software updates, as the G4 has a lot more programs on it.
Second question, how would I then network to the PC in the other room? It would be nice to move files, photographs for instance, between the Macs and the PC. I'd also like to access the lazerprinter which is in that room, connected to the PC.
Hoping this is a simple question with a simple answer.

Adding the PC into the network has some special considerations. the following sites have good info for setting up such a network:

For my needs, I have a switched ethernet network. All computers are connected to the switch, as is the modem, by ethernet cable. This allows computer to computer networking using AppleTalk. With the same cabling and switch, the computers are all able to connect to the internet using DHCP, or, one at a time using PPPoE.
These are all Mac's, but, with some setting adjustments, a PC can also be placed in a similar network.
As well, adding a wireless connection for one computer is possible. This would require a wireless base station to be connected to the switch. The wireless capable computer would then be able to enter the network, and vice-versa. Of course, the settings for all the hardware and software are the key. The settings can have variables, depending on what is connected, and how the connections are made. Another variable is your router/modem, and your internet service providers policies on multiple connections.
Adding the printer depends on the capabilities of the printer. Often, it is only possible to share a printer through a computer. A network capable printer can be connected to the switch, directly, or to a wireless base station, and then shared by all on the network.

How to connect an apple tv to an enterprise network with a username and a password?
I need to use it over my university's wifi. theres no option to enter username and password. how to connect the apple tv to such enterprise network?Contact the University's IT dept, they may be able to set something up on the network to allow the ATV to connect without the need for a user name/password.

You need to turn on Printer Sharing on both the PC and OS X. I can't help you on Vista but in OS X it's System Preferences - Sharing - check the Printer Sharing box.

If no change after powering your iPad off and on and/or after a reset which is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release, try resetting network settings on your iPad at Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will erase all saved wi-fi network settings from your iPad. This will require rejoining every wi-fi network your iPad has access to when returning within range of such a network.
If no change after this, try restoring your iPad with iTunes as a new iPad or not from your iPad's backup.
If no change after restoring as a new iPad, your iPad has a hardware problem. -
I have a 1 TB Time Capsule on a wireless network with my iMac and my wife's MacBook Pro. The TC is almost full. What is the best way/device to increase storage capacity?
Replace the Time Capsule with one that has a larger hard drive. Or erase the one you have and start a new set of backups or backup one of the computers to a different backup drive.

Is the power adapter in the world travel kit identical with the one in the world travel kit?
I was told that to charge my Ipad2 in Europe I need to buy the world travel adapter kit - with the apple power adapter that looks the same as the one that comes with the Ipad2 - plus the adapter plugs. I do not need any more adapter plugs - have lots of those and multiple ones for Europe. So why am I being told by Apple store people that I must buy the "kit" for $39 when I already have a power adapter that is 110-240 . I can see taking a second power adapter - in case something happens to the original one- but why am I told that the power adapter in the kit is "different"? If so - different in what way?
To follow up: I'd put my apartment number (there are about five hundred at this address) in my address information (or Apple pulled it in with the information that goes with my Apple ID), but the number didn't make it into the shipping label. Calling DHL got the apartment number added, and they will attempt delivery tomorrow.
So calling DHL was the thing to do. I even grudgingly admit that having me make the call provided the information needed to close the case.
Two residual complaints: Apple/DHL should have formatted the address label correctly. And, DHL should have registered a shipping exception, which should have gone to Apple (or me), so I could have been told of the problem two weeks ago. -
I placed an upgrade order for two phones, an iPhone 6 and 6plus.
I was in the Verizon shopping cart at 11:55 and checked out by 12:01 AM pacific time.
I do have my email confirmation for both phones with ship date 9/19
The iPhone 6 has shipped with tracking number and the charge to my card came through for the price of this phone.
There is no other information available - nothing on the status of the 6 Plus. Customer service doesn't know if this is normal or if my order went through, its really bad.
Any further information would be much appreciated.I was just told by a Verizon sales rep that, when her team got in, when she checked the system at 3:03 (midnight+ 3 minutes) all 6Plus had a back order date of October, and now its going into November even though the pre-order system was showing 9/19 - that all verizon iphone 6 plus had an instant sell out.
She had no additional information on my iPhone 6 plus, not even if there was a chance for it to ship out, when the back order date would be - no further information.
(A different rep I talked to said all iphone 6 plus pre orders had a ship date of October, all of them - I asked what Verizon is going to do when they advertised iphone 6 plus for 9/19 delivery and your telling me they never had any available - at this point he transferred me... *****) -

my video looks fine in my computer, but when i send my .mov video to encore (cs6) in a HD MENU and standard menú, the image sucks.
i have done the transcoding in encore, but i doesnt work either. i dont know what else to do. -
Recent software upgrades has changed the way my iPhone syncs with my macbook and items entered on my iPhone are no longer uploaded to my macbook. I've tried to fix it and seem to have made things worse, my iPhone now has a long list of calanders that I don't want and can't delete and nothing is uploading to my macbook.
You need to look at Mac's iTunes, check > System Preferences > iCloud.
If you use iCloud for Calendar, Contacts then turn off those items in iTunes, Info tab with your iPhone connected and selected. -

If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.
