Bayside Beat tutorial not saving properly? [subject edited by moderator]

I'm only on the first step of the trial, and have saved 'Bayside Beat' to the Sites folder, but it's empty - there are no images, nor anything in the js folder - what's happened??

The tutorial says -
Copy the bayside_beat folder into the Sites folder.The bayside_beat folder is the folder you will use as the root folder (main folder) for your Dreamweaver site. The content folder contains two rich text format (.rtf) files with text content for the web pages you'll build in this tutorial. The bayside_beat_comp.jpg image shows the design for the main page of the website (see Figure 2).
Did you add this bayside_beat folder as the root folder of the site in your site definition?

• Bayside Beat Tutorial--Paragraph Has No p Tags

While in the third session of the Bayside Beat tutorial for Dreamweaver CC titled Adding images and links, in the third paragraph of the imported article titled Riding the Cable Cars, the
tags are missing. Therefore, at the step of adding the Figure tag, there is no space between the caption text and the beginning of the third paragraph. Why would the
tags be missing?
It appears that Dreamweaver didn't convert the text properly to HTML.

The most likely reason is that you didn't select the closing paragraph symbol when copying from the rtf file. Paste Special's ability to generate the correct HTML tags depends entirely on how the text was formatted in the original document, and on what is actually selected.
When copying and pasting from an rtf document, Dreamweaver wraps everything in paragraph tags, as long as there is a blank line between each paragraph in the original document. If you don't copy the closing paragraph symbol, the last line is not formatted by Dreamweaver.
When copying and pasting from a Word document, Dreamweaver preserves the Word formatting, but only if the Word document has been styled correctly. A lot of Word documents are incorrectly styled (simply changing font size, instead of using heading styles), so it's always a good idea to check the HTML after pasting into Dreamweaver.
With both Word and rtf documents, there needs to be a blank line between paragraphs. If there isn't, Dreamweaver wraps everything in a single pair of
tags, and the line breaks are represented by
tags. Cleaning this up can be a major pain if a lot of text has been formatted this way.
That's why it's so important to check the HTML generated after copying and pasting from an external file.

• Bayside Beat tutorial

How do you clear or delete files in the "Local Files" section? In step 1, when I selected the "Browse for Folder" button, all the files from my desktop were copied to "Local Files". When I edit and delete a file, it is also deleted from my desktop. I would like to start the Bayside Beat tutorial over from the beginning.

The best way to work with this (or any other) tutorial is to make a copy of the files, and make the folder that contains the copy the Local Site Folder.
If you want to edit the current site definition, go to Site > Manage Sites. In the dialog box that opens, select the name of the site you want to edit, and click the Edit button (it looks like a pencil):

Thanks for simplifying this for everyone, Murray.
Antimusic: While it is not possible to upload an Adobe video to your site, you can embed a video from http://tv.adobe.com using the embed code for the video. Is that what you were looking for?
Thanks,

• Keynote (and other iWork apps) not saving properly!

Hi all
I have had some strange problems over the last few weeks where I get messages telling me that iWork (usually Numbers) cannot save the files as 'something else' is using the file. So I click 'save anyway' and I get strange files in folders, ie folder and file name is the original name plus some gooblygook.
I have got round this by deleting the 'extras' and carrying on. But now I am preparing a major presentation in Keynote and suddenly it is not saving graphics some of the time!
For example I was working on a slide - and suddenly got a message that 'some problems occured' -
Couldn’t save image. - image.png (Slides: 12, 13, 17, 18; Skipped slide count: 1)
Couldn’t save image. - image.png (Slides: 12, 13, 17, 18; Skipped slide count: 1)
I have been working with this presentation for some time and have never encountered any problems - passing between my laptop and my iPad to review and modify (mainly viewing on the iPad and editing on the MacBook).
Any ideas what is happening? I have a major presentation to give in just over a week and I don't want to use PowerPoint!
Thanks
Ian

I've been having some success NOT using any files that have previous images or audio in them, starting from a base template and then adding audio and video and photos that are already on my hard drive, not previous Keynote files. Today I needed five slides that were part of another deck and, you guessed it, they were corrupted (or missing) when I reopened the file, only the thumbnails remaining.
I closed the original Keynote file, placed a zip extension, then control- clicked to see the contents. The images were missing from the package. I then replaced the extension with .key and reopened in Keynote. The audio file had been there but not the images or the drawing, which I then searched for.
Yes, delete the weird file backups and make a backup of the original in the finder. Then lock it! (You're using Mountain Lion?)
I have a huge presentation tomorrow. I have five backups, including on a thumb drive.
How much longer Apple?

• NOT SAVING CHANGES OR EDIT'S!!PLEASE HELP

hey guys,
i had this problem before along with many others, with the earlier vers of iphoto. until apple gave us the fix...now agin with 5.0.4.any changes or edits(redeye fix) are not saved to any of my pics!!
is anybody else having this problem??
is there a fix or update??
please help......thanks.

Hi sunny,
Check the permissions on the Library and Pictures folder. If they are set for you, make sure the library is not locked.
Get info on the iPhoto Library folder
screenshot of how the "get info" window should look for your user
If edits are not saved it could be the image files are locked, especially if these files came from another computer or sent to you in email. Do a "get info" on these files and unlock them.

• Screen painter not working properly to edit an ALV screen

Hi I am stuck with a problem, I want to edit a screen which is an ALV report screen and add a custom button to its toolbar. But the screen painter is not opening properly so that I can see the screen layout and add a button.
Any help is greatly appreciated....

HWat do u mean by the screen is displaying improperly? Is teh graphical layout not coming?
If so, you have to contact your basis team. you need to get the latest Gui version, and you need a particular port to be opened.

• Trying to create and save a new site for the Bayside Beat tutorial but am having trouble

trying to create a new site as explained by David Powers in this tutorial but I am already getting hung up.
It tells me to go to site and then to New Site. I do that and type in Bayside Beat on the first line. (as soon as I do that you notice a red X on the right side of Bayside Beat.)
I'm told to Browse for my folder which is on my desktop and click ok. When I press SAVE another window pops up.
This time it tells me another site is named Getting Started and I'm asked to enter a different name.
Question, where is this other site that is named Getting Started? What name do I call it now!?
So I rename the site name San Francisco and press SAVE and another window pops up.
This time it tells me I may have further problems still...What am I suppose to do?

Do you mean, are the contents still in the original folder or was it transferred to a new folder?
Does it make a difference if it’s in the original folder?

• Voice memos app not saving properly

I am using an iphone5 running iOS7.1.1 and performing the following actions will cause Voice Memos app not saving recordings. I have sent a feedback to Apple but is wondering if anyone else is found having similar problems.
1) Run Voice memos app and start recording
2) At lock screen open camera app and take a picture
3) At same lock screen delete the picture taken
4) Lock screen will show RECORDING in progress
5) Open Voice memos app and it will also show RECORDING in progress
6) Save voice memo from app and the duration FROM the point of picture deleted WILL NOT be saved

same here ... iPhone 3gs/32 gigs ram/ios 4.3.1 ...
the app doesn't seem to work any more, and hasn't for some time:
"buttons" are unresponsive, or they appear to respond, but don't perform their function ... erratic behavior ...
very disappointing as this has gone on for some time ...
We appear not to be the only ones ...
Anyone with a solution?

a img { /* this selector removes the default blue border displayed in some browsers around an image when it is surrounded by a link */
border: none;

a:link {

header {
background-color: #ADB96E;
/* ~~ These are the columns for the layout. ~~
1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the block elements. The elements within these blocks have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the block itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total* width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the block element and place a second block element within it with no width and the padding necessary for your design.
2) No margin has been given to the columns since they are all floated. If you must add margin, avoid placing it on the side you're floating toward (for example: a right margin on a block set to float right). Many times, padding can be used instead. For blocks where this rule must be broken, you should add a "display:inline" declaration to the block element's rule to tame a bug where some versions of Internet Explorer double the margin.
3) Since classes can be used multiple times in a document (and an element can also have multiple classes applied), the columns have been assigned class names instead of IDs. For example, two sidebar blocks could be stacked if necessary. These can very easily be changed to IDs if that's your preference, as long as you'll only be using them once per document.
4) If you prefer your nav on the left instead of the right, simply float these columns the opposite direction (all left instead of all right) and they'll render in reverse order. There's no need to move the blocks around in the HTML source.
.sidebar1 {
float: right;
width: 180px;
background-color: #EADCAE;
padding-bottom: 10px;
.content {
padding: 10px 0;
width: 780px;
float: right;
color: #000000;
/* ~~ This grouped selector gives the lists in the .content area space ~~ */
.content ul, .content ol {
padding: 0 15px 15px 40px; /* this padding mirrors the right padding in the headings and paragraph rule above. Padding was placed on the bottom for space between other elements on the lists and on the left to create the indention. These may be adjusted as you wish. */
/* ~~ The navigation list styles (can be removed if you choose to use a premade flyout menu like Spry) ~~ */
nav ul{
list-style: none; /* this removes the list marker */
border-top: 1px solid #666; /* this creates the top border for the links - all others are placed using a bottom border on the LI */

nav li {
border-bottom: 1px solid #666; /* this creates the button separation */
nav a, nav a:visited { /* grouping these selectors makes sure that your links retain their button look even after being visited */
padding: 5px 5px 5px 15px;
display: block; /* this gives the link block properties causing it to fill the whole LI containing it. This causes the entire area to react to a mouse click. */
width: 160px; /*this width makes the entire button clickable for IE6. If you don't need to support IE6, it can be removed. Calculate the proper width by subtracting the padding on this link from the width of your sidebar container. */

Because all the columns are floated, this layout uses a clear:both declaration in the footer rule. This clearing technique forces the .container to understand where the columns end in order to show any borders or background colors you place on the .container. If your design requires you to remove the footer from the .container, you'll need to use a different clearing method. The most reliable will be to add a <br class="clearfloat" /> or <div class="clearfloat"></div> after your final floated column (but before the .container closes). This will have the same clearing effect.

Be aware that if you use the Property inspector to navigate to your logo image using the SRC field (instead of removing and replacing the placeholder), you should remove the inline background and display properties. These inline styles are only used to make the logo placeholder show up in browsers for demonstration purposes.

To remove the inline styles, make sure your CSS Styles panel is set to Current. Select the image, and in the Properties pane of the CSS Styles panel, right click and delete the display and background properties. • New laptop - beats audio not working properly

Product name:HP Envy dv7t-7300 Quad Edition
OS: Windoze 8
Issue: This is a brand new notebook. We were using Skype video and the sound volume was very poor (very low). So we decided to plug in the USB-powered speakers we have used on a Dell laptop for hte last year. There was no sound. We unplugged the speakers and there was no sound from the notebook. On a whim, Iplugged the speakers back in and out and suddenly the enhanced (beats) audio started to work, but we could not control the voilume (the volume bar showed 0% but the sound was extremely loud. I played a youtubs video and the sound was still loud. I played a system sound from the control panel and the sound was extreme;y loud.. I plugged the speakers back in and there was again no sound. I unplugged them and again there was no sound.
No sound. I have rebooted twice and still no sound. Windoze 8 shows everything working fine. It apperas that ther is a hardware mechaniscal issue in the headphone plug. Also, when watching the sound controls on Windoze 8, Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound, there are currently three sound devices onthe Volume Mixer display: S235HL, System Sounds, and HPConnectRe..... When I plug in the speaker mini-plug, the S235HL panel disappears. When I unplug the mini plug, the S235HL display momentarily (1/4 second) appears and then disappears. When I do it a third time, I get a pull down on the System Sounds which allows me to make the S23HL display appear again.
I'm pretty sure that there is supposed to be some way to control the volumn on the beats audio, and I'm pretty sure that the headp[hones jack is supposed to work properly like it has on my presios 5 or 6 laptops. Is this a mechanical issue? Or are we doing something wrong?

Hello nancyes. I understand you're having trouble with your sound.
Have you tried uninstalling the device's drivers and allowing Windows to reinstall them? Try the following.
From either the Metro or Desktop views press the Windows+X key combination. This opens the Context Menu.
Select Device Manager.
Expand the "Sound, video, and game controllers" section.
Right click on your audio device and select "Uninstall."
Now reboot your PC.
Windows will automatically install the device when it loads.
Verify whether the problem persists.
I'll keep an eye out for your response. I hope you have a great day!
Please click the white star under my name to give me Kudos as a way to say "Thanks!"
Click the "Accept as Solution" button if I resolve your issue.

I just upgraded to FF4. Now, when I try to save my TiddlyWiki after editing, it always fails to actually save. It tells me it has saved, but the next time I open the file, everything new is missing. Is there a fix for this?

• Illustrator CS6 files not saving properly as PDFs??

Prior to printing my work, I save PDF versions of my files. More often than I'd like, when I print the PDF file from my computer, some of the graphics do not print correctly. For example, a portion of a curved graphic (like a swirl) might be cut off leaving a blunt straight edge.
Does anyone else have issues with PDF files? Is there anything I can do to control this quality issue?
Thank you.

I had a similar issue, where a file saved in Illustrator looked incomplete when it opened in Preview (a colour logo was rendering in black only).
As far as I'm concerned, the point of a PDF is that it can be seen/read universally, so this is a fail, and opening it in a different program is no fix.
My workaround was to select and copy all the graphics in my Illustrator document, then open Photoshop and paste to a new document as a smart image. I then double clicked the smart image logo in the layers to edit it in Illustrator, from where I saved it as a PDF. For whatever reason this saved the PDF correctly.
Hope that helps somebody with the same issue in the future.

Sorry for the long post, but I figured the more info the better...
I am storing my music on an external hard drive. I have my advanced settings set to 'Keep iTunes folder organised" and "To copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library". When I finish downloading a song, it says it is complete but when I check the 'Info' for the downloaded song it ends up in the downloads folder of itunes as a .tmp file, not in the proper place.
For example, tonight I downloaded Centennial by Tokyo Police Club. It appeared to have downloaded correctly and processed, yet the pathway for the song is as follows:
K:\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Downloads\Centennial_Elephant Shell (Bonus T.tmp\download.m4a
According to the way I have iTunes setup it should end up in the folder:
K:\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Tokyo Police Club\Elephant Shell (Bonus Track Version)\01....etc
The above folder is actually created on my external hard drive, but it is empty.
In the folder K:\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Downloads\Centennial _Elephant Shell (Bonus T.tmp there are two files:
Download m4a which is 4181 kb and Info (a Quick Time preference file) which is 2kb
When I sync my iPhone or iPod, I am able to get the track onto the device, however at some point, the download folder deletes the m4a file and then the link in iTunes shows up as a "!" and the file is no longer anywhere on my hard drive. AS it is an external drive, nothing gets sent to the recycle bin...it just gets permenantly deleted.
I have been able to restore my purchases from my iPhone by transferring back purchased items after deleting the links off of iTunes before syncing my device, but this is a totally inconvenient solution, and it is only a matter of time before I lose purchases.
Also, I am never prompted to backup my purchases like I was in the past and I am running the most updated version of iTunes. Anyone ever seen something like this before???
PS: There is nothing wrong with the hard drive, i've run a diagnostic on it and even switched drives...still the same. Aaaargh!

Perhaps. It seems iTunes can create the new artist folder. Your first post said it shows up, but is blank. But then it can't write the final file to that folder.
Were you trying to take ownership of the root K: drive?
Try taking ownership of K:\Music and all its subfolders, instead - does that work?
This isn't an easy one. You might have to use MSCONFIG to find out why itunes can't finish its filing tasks.

edit - do you have V CST from Verizon? There is a memonitor.exe process from Verizon that is known to interfere with itunes saving the final file.
