BB Backup access AFTER switching to new phone?

Hello -- I had a BB Curve from 2008-2011. Yes, I switched to a different smartphone. I have need for access to some of the info that was backed up from my BB during 2010. Is it possible for me to get to this? I was using the Desktop BB software at the time, which has since been removed from my PC.  Any thoughts/suggestions would be helpful!
Thanks!

There are a couple of options for extracting and viewing data from a the backup files.
1. The IPD Parse macro is designed to read a Blackberry IPD file and create reports in MSWord or MSExcel. It is free, and you can find out more here: https://sites.google.com/site/ipdparse/home
For .bbb backup files, use this macro to extract seven "primary" IPD files (Address Book, Calendar, SMS Messages, Tasks, Memos, PIN Messages and Phone Call Logs)
IPD bbb Extract macro https://sites.google.com/site/ipdbbbextract
These IPD files can subsequently be used as inputs to the other macro, IPD Parse, to produce reports.
2. Another options is MagicBerry from MenaStep... which extract from a backup IPD or BBB file, split IPD files, etc. http://menastep.com/pages/magicberry.php
3. Another IPD and BBB file utility is BlackBerry Backup Extractor, and is available for PC and Mac, and can be found here: http://www.blackberryconverter.com/ There is a free and paid version.

That's up to you. Do you want the data on your old phone on your new phone? If so, you follow the directions here:

If you want to setup your new phone as a new device, then there is nothing you need to do.

  • Can I delete old backups from other devices if my new iphone 6 has a current backup with everything on my new phone?

Can I delete old backups from other devices if my new iphone 6 has a current backup with everything on my new phone?

    Hi there dyarrell,
You can do this if you are confident that your current device has all of the data on it that you want to keep. The method for deleting the backup will be differnt depending on the backup method. Take a look at the articles below for more information.

My old phone was stolen and when trying to set up a new one and restoring my last backup from icloud it says: No backups available, even though i can see my last backup is saved/still there both on the new phone and my ipad, can one only restore from an earlier saved backup during the intitial set up of the phone, or are you also able to restore/pick up an older version later after is i set it up as a new phone?  is any bright ideas please?

Did you figure this out? I'm having a similar issue.

  • Lost all ratings, playlists, etc... after switch to new pc.

I know there are many topics like this, but I tried everything I found on the subject without any result.
I bought a new pc and removed my harddrives from the old one to the new one.
After reinstalling itunes and changing the location of the default itunes media map to the one where my old files are nothing happened.
I then tried to import the 'iTunes Music Library.xml' file.
(On a side note, took me a long time to find 'Import playlist' because the threads I was reading didn't mention to  press Ctrl+B to get the old menu bar back.)
That didn't work. It imported all the music. But no playlists and the tracks lost their rating.
I then removed the xml and the iTunes Library.itl and replaced them with  automatic backup files I have through crashplan.
No results, even going back several versions of the back ups.
The weird thing is these files say the last version of them is 2009 ?
Before switching pc's I made sure the itunes media map was the one I was using,
because I remember itunes changing it a couple of time back in the days after updates without asking.
The location hadn't changed and everything in crashplan was backupped correctly.
I've been messing with this for hours and I'm close to a panic attack knowing that I still have to connect my iphone for the first time.
Something tells me that's gonna be misery too. Lost months of pictures etc after switching from 3GS to 5S.
Anyway, if somebody knows how I can get years of playlists and ratings back, I would be very grateful.

When itunes upgrades, it saves a copy of the current database in a folder named Previous iTunes Libraries.
Copy & paste the mose recent one to the folder one level up, and rename it to get rid of the date.
    For example
    itunes/Previous itunes libraries/iTunes Library 2010-03-31.itl
This shows my last upgrade was 31st March 2010.
With itunes closed, copy that itl file and paste it in the itunes folder.
Rename it so it looks like this
    iTunes Library.itl
You'll have to delete the current (blank) itl file first.

  • How to restore iCloud backups earlier ios version to new phone with latest ios?

Does anybody know how to restore an icloud backup with i.os 7.1.2 version to a new iphone5 with ios 7.0.4 version?
    thanks

Set up the phone as a new phone, not from the backup. Go to Settings > General > Software Update, and perform the update. Then go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings to repeat the setup, and this time choose Restore from backup.

  • If I have a phone on the old 50 dollar plan(unlimited text, call, and web), but my phone got water damage, can i switch a new phone to the same plan?

    Hey!
So my phone somehow got water damage and I cannot fix it. I was waiting til the last possible moment to transfer my number over and now the time has come. However, when I went to change my phone, the plan that I currently have was no longer offered as an option. Is there any way that I can switch phones and keep the same plan? If so, how can I do that? I need my phone as soon as I can get it because I have important business that must be dealt with and that is the only way I can deal with it currently. Please help me! I have a Pantech Caper and my new phone is also a Pantech Caper.
    Thanks!
    Janelle

        JanelleNaomi,
I'm glad to hear you already have another phone to use. It can be stressful to be without one. You should be able to use your old $50.00 plan, but you will have to call our Prepay Department at 1-888-294-6804 to to connect the replacement phone to your number and that plan.

  • Moved from an iphone 4s to a 5...Do I "restore from last backup" or set up a new phone?

I just went from an iphone 4s to a 5 and I'm trying to set it up and I don't know if I am supposed to back it up by "restoring from the last back up ? Which I thought was last night, but apparently it is saying my last backup was Nov. 14th. Or do I choose "set up a new iPhone"? Which do I  choose?
My new phone automatically grabbed all my contacts and caldendar, notes, etc from the cloud, just don't know what do do from here.

you can get your playlists and apps back by syncing with itunes.
restoring from a backup is generally the quickest way to get everything back on the phone.

  • Itunes Library that I swapped in after switching to new PC is out of date, missing ~3 months of added music

    Hi,
I just got a new PC laptop (replacing a dying one) and transferred my Itunes library to its C drive from an external drive, and copied the Itunes Library folder over as well so that I wouldn't have to recreate playlists (and, more importantly, redo all of the checking-and-unchecking to make my chosen library fit on my 160GB Classic).
When the library first populated, I was very happy to see that checks-and-unchecks seemed in order, but then as I was syncing the Ipod to the new computer I realized that the library file must be out of date, as two or three months' worth of additions don't seem to be in there (even though the Library file says it was created on July 20).  Is there anything I can do to find the most up-to-date library file on the external drive and put it in place on the new laptop?  It's weird - the newer songs themselves are in the new Itunes Media folder, but they aren't showing up in my Itunes library unless i re-add them.  This, and the fact that the last sync added stuff that I chose months ago to remove from my Ipod so as not to run out of space (I'm in the last 1.5GB or so), is very frustrating.
Thanks for any help you can give!

Search for all files of the form *.itl. The most recently modified one will be the active library. The one before may be the library that was most recently active on your previous system.
See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash for tips on how to switch the library you want to access into the correct location.

  • Time machine disk full after switch to new mac-how to empty?

    Hi,
I have been using a Time Machine-disc of 320 GB for my iMac of 320 GB for a while. Some months ago it reached the point that it was full and started to delete older backups - so far all OK.
Yesterday I switched from old iMac to new MacbookPro, and migrated all data with migration assistant.
When connecting my TM-disc to my new MBP, Time Machine indicated this disc is full and can only be used if I backup less stuff - which I don't want to do of course.
I started deleting older backupfolders from the TM-disc 'by hand', but apart from that this takes ages, I also wonder if it is the right thing to do.
I also tried to fool the system by changing the name of the backupfolder from 'iMac...' to 'MBP...' but this was denied.
What is the way to go here? Not buying a new one or erasing it altogether, I hope?

    Thanks Pondini for helping out.
I found your faq, it is big! I now know how to see my old data again in TM, thanks!
I did something you say is not good: I threw away older backups by the finder. But it seems my backup works still ok.
Yes, sometimes you'll get away with that, sometimes not.
Back to my problem. I have 190 GB data on my hard drive, so I would need 'at least' 380 GB for TM-disk, which is 350. I still wonder: the same amount was flawlessly backupped until 2009, so if I would delete all backups from the disk, it should be usable once more, no?
Yes, for a while. It's a bit small, so this might happen again, and if, like most of us, you put more and more stuff on your Mac, there won't be enough room to keep old backups very long.
But I want to keep my latest backup for security. I think of doing following:
throwing away all but last backups, copy what's left on a partition of my MBP and copy it back to the TM-disk, which is connected with USB-cable to the computer.
Can you tell me if this would work? Thanks!
Not in the way you want. You can copy a single backup elsewhere, but that will convert it into "normal" folders and files; it's no longer recognized as a Time Machine backup. You cannot copy it back into a different set of backups.
Even if you could, it would still take up roughly 190 GB, so there still wouldn't be enough space for a new backup.
If you really want to keep it, your best option might be to restore part of it to another disk, or a partition on your new Mac, and leave it there. There's no point to restoring the backed-up version of OSX, and probably the apps. Your home folder(s), or selected parts of them, would probably be enough.
Perhaps a better option would be to get an additional external HD. Make a partition on it just large enough to restore some or all of the backup there. Use the rest of the disk for "secondary" backups, in case something happens to your existing one. See #27 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum) for some suggestions.

  • IPhoto - Backup failure after transfer to new Mac

I just migrated everything over from my iMac to the new Mac Pro and plugged in the external hard drive I'd been using to back files up using the .Mac utility "Backup." I made no changes to the schedules I'd set up previously. All backup schedules are working except for the iPhoto one. I get a "Backup has failed" message after it works away for a while. Does this imply my iPhoto file is corrupt in some way, or what might be happening here?
    Help appreciated as always.

  • Apple Mail can't import mailboxes after switch to new Mac

I just purchased a new iMac (running Yosemite 10.10.2) and imported the Time Machine backup from my MacBook Pro (running Mavericks 10.9.5).
When attempting to launch Mail I am forced to import all mailboxes, there doesn't seem to be any way of skipping this step. In the second mailbox (Googlemail IMAP account) I can import 98% of the over 38,000 emails yet import stops at the same place every time. There seems to be something wrong with the file from which Mail is importing.
Is there any way to force Mail to skip this mailbox? Or replace the file Mail is attempting to import from?
I have the following backups: the Time Machine backup and an image I created using SuperDuper.

  • HT3275 Continue using Time Machine backup history after switching disk from local to Airport Extreme?

I have been using Time Machine on my iMac for backups for quite some time. The disk I've been using is a single disk connected via USB. Now that I got an AirPort Extreme base station, I wanted to switch the disk drive to the AirPort Extreme, but continue to use my existing backup history and not start a new one.
When I did that, Time Machine complaint that the disk does not have enough space left to do the initial backup. Again, I don't want to start a new backup history but rather seamlessly append to and continue with my existing backup history that's already on the disk.
    Is this possible and how?
    Thanks,
    Torsten

As the other poster says, that's usually unreliable and not supported by Apple. See:  Using Time Machine with an Airport Extreme Air Disk.
When I did that, Time Machine complaint that the disk does not have enough space left to do the initial backup.
That's because Time Machine stores backups differently when they're done over a network.  See the blue box in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #17 for an explanation.
