BB Curve 9300 showing my contacts as unknown

Hi,
I just got this BB and it looks like I'm not the only one that has had this problem but so far I haven't found a solution.
On a regular cell I could add contacts to my phonebook and whenever those contacts called their name would show on the display.
Now when I add contacts to my phonebook and my contacts call me, they are displayed as unknown number.
Ive seen a few solutions but it doesnt work or wont apply to my version of BB. one was to go to smart dialing. I did. Im from Canada so its a +1 and with my area code its 10 numbers. I have set it to that.
The second solution someone told me was to go to security option -> general settings. When I go to security options all i have is advanced security options, encryption, firewall, information and security wipe. I tried enabling my encryption and set include contacts to both yes and no. Both times same problem. I use Rogers and Ive used them with my previous cell (not a smartphone) and ive been able to see my contact names when they call, so I have no idea why this isnt working and its a pain in the **bleep** to pick up your phone not knowing whos calling you, whether friend or telemarketer.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Vicky

  • Curve 9300 shows switch-off

    Hi All,
I have recently brought the Blackberry Curve 9300 and having the connection of Reliance GSM.
I am facing a problem, that sometimes, the phone remains ON and also show the full network but when, the somebody calls it shows him as SWITCH-OFF and not able to contact.
I come to know this from my relatives, when they tried to call me a lot and now I realizes this problem when i try to call someone and the phone shows CALL FAILED. Then, i have to restart the phone evertime and after restarting it works well.
PLEASE PROVIDE ANY SOLUTION WHY IT HAPPENS..because it creates a problem in urgency!!!
    Kindly suggest any solutions.
    Thanks & Regards,

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!!
I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
    2) Resend Service Books
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should contact your wireless service provider for formal support.

  • Curve 9300 synching personal contacts has blocked work email address

    Hi,
I administer the cell phones for a small company. One of my new users sucessfully set-up his new BB Curve 9360's email with his work address last week. Over the weekend he synched his new phone with the contacts on his outlook at home which is attached to his personal email.
At first he could not send an email with his blackberry as it was trying to send them from his personal address. He added his personal email address to his new blackberry but now all the emails he sends are from that address.
Ideally, he would like to have all of his contacts on his new phone and have only his work email come to his phone.
    Thanks for the help,

    Thanks for the additional information.
I did go to our Pipex account and set up mrs.yellowtriumph as an alias for the [email protected] account.
So now if go to a computer and send an email to either  [email protected] or [email protected] - then 'yes' the email does get through to the [email protected] account ok - so the alias is clearly working ok.
I thought this was the answer. So, We went to the Blackberry 'set up email accounts' page on the handset and tried to set up an email account for the alias ([email protected]) using the password for the  'abc123' account. However, when the Blackerry 'went off' to check that this account existed (|I think that's what it does?) it came back with an error message along the lines of something like - unable to confirm/access? this account.
Looking at the PIpex information, it looks as though the alias faciity works on a 'day to day' basis - but if you actually want to access the account (which I presume the Blackberry is when it goes away to check the account) then you
have the use the 'real' account name ([email protected]) - so its a vicious circle really and we end up back at square one because the Blackberry cannot interrogate the [email protected] account during the set up phase.
I am not familiar with BIS? Is this something you do/access via the internet? There seems to be no way to do this on the handset itself.
Any info gratefully received and we appreciate the time you have taken so far.

  • How Do We Add Contacts To Categories On BB Curve 9300?

After two years of service complaints BlackBerry has not resolved issue KB19631 or the issue with blackberry desktop manager not syncing category groups correctly from apple address book to blackberry phones. These phone range from $200 to $600 bucks and Im in dismay about how the most important key features do not work??
The new Blackberry Curve 9300 allows us to add individual categories and each contact to these categories we create on the phone one by one. I just bought this expensive phone and I would think that I would not have to spend 8 hours adding 300 contacts to each group category.
Im tired of downloading apps that say they sync all categories and do not. Is there a way to select a category on this phone then scroll through the contact list selecting each name that belongs in that category?
KB19631 Issue with address book: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB19631

ok, look at Options > Applications (or Options > Advanced > Applications).
Do you see it listed in the apps or Add-On apps?

  • Need help with a Blackberry Curve 9300, please...

Hello, everyone, I had a look around the forum and came across a post which offered advice one what to include in questions, so I have tried to include the info below.
    Device info
Your carrier: Unlocked (was using Virgin)
Model info and OS version (Go to Settings, then Options, then about): Blackberry Curve 9300, OS 6
    Apps and free space
File free before and after a battery remove/replace. (Go to Settings, then Options, then status): 60%
Did a battery pull fix your issue? No
Apps installed and their version if possible.   (Go to Settings, then Options, then applications): None, only the ones that come with it after reset to factory
BT device model/version (you will have to look at the BT device): Don't know what this means
    When writing your question
Any other details that would help us out with your issue: This was my teenage brother's phone, which since has been given to me. The phone was severely mistreated; thrown around, stepped on and chewed. The battery had to be replaced as well as the middle chassis and the front and back cases along with the keyboard, bottom clip and screen.
Good description of what is really wrong and how to reproduce if possible. Details of what you did before: I managed to get it working after I had replaced everything listed above, but it will not charge using the cable. I have to keep taking the battery out and plugging it in seperately to charge, then putting back in the phone. This is after replacing the cable as my brother broke that too, so it's not the cable. He's damaged the data/ charge port.
The camera will not work, but at the moment I am not looking for a solution for that. The error is: "Could not start the camera. Close other applications and try opening the camera again". No applications are open and the OS has just been updated to the most recent version. For this reason, I think he's managed to break that too and it would need to be replaced if that's possible.
My issue at the moment... My mother, as you can imagine is furious with him for trashing the phone she bought him at about £250 when it was new a couple of years ago. So, as I have managed to get it to turn on and pick up wi-fi, she has said I can keep it. I am on Virgin Mobile and this phone is unlocked. It will not pick up any network even using my Virgin SIM card which works fine. My brother was also using it on Virgin.
I can use it with wi-fi and have already contacted t-mobile and Virgin Mobile to make there there's no problem with them. There isn't. The number has been put under my ownership and the phone registered to me now. It is not blocked or blacklisted, yet, only comes up with SOS for network.
Because of this, they and the local phone shop think he might have damaged the antenna inside. I am an iPhone user, this is the first time I have used a Blackberry, so I have no idea - can the antenna be repaired by myself?
Or, given that the camera doesn't work either/ needs replacing, would it just be better to get a replacement using my contents insurance? I am unsure which would be cheaper, to get the parts and try and fix it myself, or pay the excess for the insurance.
    Advice appreciated... Thanks in advance.

    Hey MaggzieP,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
This KB article will determine if it is a software or hardware related issue for the camera: www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB15544
Also if you tried more than 1 SIM card in the BlackBerry Curve 9300 smartphone and it still shows SOS, this could be hardware related as well.
For all repairs, I can only suggest checking with the point of sale or network service provider for further options.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
    Cheers.

  • Curve 9300 Doesn't start. Stucks at boot screen

    Hi,
I've got a brand new Curve 9300 less than a week ago. I've updated it's OS to version 6, and it worked perfectly.
When I attempted to configure my email, it automatically asked to update with my carrier's email setup software. I just chose ok. I got three warning messages, which I don't exactly remember but it was about something may not function correctly (regarding to version difference). I just continued installation, and it asked for a reboot.
When I rebooted the mobile, it goot stuck at the boot screen. Then nothing! The thin status bar bellow BlackBerry's logo fills up until it's full, then nothing happens. When I wait for longer time (a few minutes), I get a message on a white screen with a tiny font with "App Error 606", with one option of 'RESET'.
I pulled out the battery and restored it a few times, nothing different.
    Notes:
The LED does not do anything, except for a single red blink when it reboots
The keboard seems to be responsive. I get the Alt and Shift indicators in the top right corner when I press them
The power button doens't seem to cause any response
    I appreciate your help.
Edit: The Desktop Software shows that the device is not connected, even though it's attached to the USB cable.
Edit: The Alt-Shift-Del combination causes the system to go to a blank white screen with that "app error" mentioned above

  • Curve 9300 error message: there was a problem during installation. Please try again when using app world

    hi
I have a curve 9300 using os 6 and the latest app world 2.1.1.. something
when i try to download apps it initiates the download then after a couple of seconds after starting it shows the error message "there was a problem during installation. Please try again"
i have tried ALL the suppourt forums (KB26671 and KB30074) and suggestions/threads and called my network but none have worked.
these were reinstallign app world, making a new blackberry id as the other email address was associated with an old blackberry, security wiping the phone then restoring it and entering the new bb id, changing the date to 2014 and then hard wiping the phone and restoring it
i have twitter, facebook and bbm ect apps but these are RIM made i think and already preinstalled. everything else on the phone works fine
i have tried both wifi and network internet and battery pull
i really dont know what else to try or who else to contact to fix it. very annoying paying for a service you cant even use!
any help or more ideas would be great!
    thanks

    Hello carckberrypie,
In this case i would recommend wiping the BlackBerry smartphone. To do this we would need to back up the BlackBerry smartphone http://bit.ly/aSediX
Once backed up please follow the link below to perform a security wipe of your BlackBerry smartphone.
    Link: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB14058
Test the BlackBerry smartphone and proceed with a selective restore as outlined below.

  • Email set up on Curve 9300 and Music

I have just bought my daughter a used Curve 9300 and am having trouble setting up email account.  In the set up menu the only option for email takes me straight to the Enterprise option - I think I need personal email set up but I do not know where to find it.
Also have a music download issue.  I have synced it to our itunes and although I spent ages specify which tracks to add (using BB desktop software) and it seems to have added the whole libary!  I then tried to remove it all with no success.  Now seem to have double copies of everything!  How do I remove all the music and start again and get it right.
Can you tell I am an iphone user, this BB stuff is all new to me!!

To use the proprietary RIM Push email capability, you must have an adequate data plan from your carrier. The carriers host BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) for their BB users. Typically, BIS is not available via generic data plans. Many carriers call what is necessary The Blackberry Data Plan. Whatever they call it, it is the carrier who delivers BIS to their BB users -- contact them for assistance. Once you have a BIS-capable data plan on your BB (at whatever fees your carrier will charge, btw), you will should have Personal Email added to the email setup wizard.

Activate Mass Storage Mode and manage the music that way. From your PC, you will  be able to treat the BB as a USB drive, with all of the capabilities of file management via PC. You can find out how to activate Mass Storage Mode in your device user guide:

This actually concerns me the most. See this:
KB05099 Steps to take before selling or after buying a previously owned BlackBerry smartphone
If the seller did not properly complete all of their steps, then you have little hope of succeeding at anything with this BB. Further, if the device is not unlocked, then it can only be used on it's original carrier. Further still, if the device model is not specifically supported by the mobile network provider you wish to use, then you will have even further challenges getting it to work, with no guarantee of any success whatsoever.
BB's and i-devices are very very different.

  • Issues with BB Curve 9300

I am writing to complain about the deterioration in functionality of my Blackberry Curve 9300 over an unacceptably short period of time. I am a UK user and our service provider is T-Mobile. I have been in possession of the phone for a year, and my issues are detailed below.
    1. The phone often freezes whilst in the middle of a task, despite not being overloaded with already open applications, requiring me to reboot the phone by removing the battery.
    2. The battery no longer lasts any longer than 8 hours, despite the fact that I am not a heavy user of applications and do not use the phone for extensive multi-tasking. I have done all that I should to preserve the life of the battery, and I find such a rapid deterioration in battery-life completely unacceptable; it no longer lasts until the evening.
    3. The rubber covering on top of the phone has completely deteriorated to the point of breaking away entirely, leaving the phone incredibly difficult to lock and unlock. I have not done anything to cause such a deterioration except use the button to lock and unlock the phone.
    4. The trackpad often scrolls up without any contact from myself, making the composition of coherent messages almost completely impossible and intensely frustrating. I have not dropped the phone or caused any scratches to the trackpad that would demonstrate that this is my fault, thus I can only assume that the trackpad is faulty.
    5. Often the keyboard will input characters that are accented or completely unrecognisable, again making message composition an incredibly frustrating task. I am not sure what has happened to the phone to cause such a keyboard malfunction, but I believe something to be faulty.
I am very careful with my phone, I have not dropped it once in the year that I have been in possession of it and I am never careless with the phone. Given the extensive problems I have with the product, as detailed above, I can only assume that these issues similar to issues that I know other Blackberry users have suffered. I have approached T-Mobile about the problems above but was told that these issues were RIM's concern. Any help that you can provide me with in furthering this complaint would be much appreciated, as the phone is incredibly frustrating to use at this point in time.
    Many thanks.

I am also having issues with the phone! Since I updated my software 2 weeks ago my app world stopped working and now I cannot download it after deleting it. About a month ago when downloading mp3's it all of a sudden started having format issues even though the music is in the supported format. My photos that were taken with the camera turned to thumbnails that cannot be opened and that is why I decided to update the software in the first place. Since the new software update I now also have a java.lang.error when ever I reboot the phone. I'm frustrated! Anybody with tips as to how I can get these problems sorted please help! I have deleted all third party apps and the error persists.
    Hello,
You should probably do a clean OS reload
From a PC, you can install any compatible (e.g., for your exact BB Model Number) OS package to a BB via this procedure:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. You can even use a different carriers OS package by simply inserting, between steps 1 and 2, the deletion, on your PC, of a file named VENDOR.XML. Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:
KB19915How to perform a clean reload of BlackBerry smartphone application software using BlackBerry Desktop Software
Good luck and let us know!

  • BB Curve 9300 won't connect to email servers

Hi all please bear with me as I try to explain this!
I have a BB Curve 9300 on PAYG with Orange. It has always worked fine and emails for all email accounts always came through.
Then yesterday Orange tried to take the £5 for the BB services but I didn't have enough credit so obviously it all ended. I topped up today and they have taken the money. However my emails are not updating/downloading.
I have checked and I have the latest software and I have gone into options -device- advanced system settings etc and it says my handheld is registered for bb services. (But now when I go to options, I can't find the device option to re do this!). If I go to setup - email accounts, it tries to open up the emails I had set up it says checking etc then comes up with your device had a problem connecting to the server.
I've tried a battery out reset etc to no avail. If I click retry it just keeps coming up with the same message. I can access Twitter and Facebook on it (Twitter is slow and alerts take a good few minutes to come through).
My wifi is set up and working, I've got the 4/5 dots, i'm connected to 3G and have UMA in the top right of the screen. So everything appears to be the same as it was before the payment problem.
Can anyone please suggest what to do? Please keep it simple as I'm not that great with IT stuff, until I know what i'm doing!
Any advice will be much appreciated!!
    thanks
    Mary

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app
    2) Delete and Resend Service Books (pre-BB10 devices only)
KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
If you have no CMIME entry, then skip the deletion
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.
    3) Reboot
Pre-BB10 Devices ONLY. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
BB10 Devices. Hold the top button down until the counter reaches zero. Wait for the device to be fully shut down (e.g., nothing at all displayed on the screen, no LED lights, etc.). Hold the top button until the red LED is lit. Wait through the full boot-up process. IF this fails, you can attempt the battery-pull method above, but it is normally NOT recommended unless nothing else works.
See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you could try deleting and re-adding your configurations for the affected email accounts. Otherwise, you should contact your mobile service provider for formal support.
    Good luck!

  • Curve 9300 won't turn on all the way, please help!

My daughter has a blackberry curve 9300. It froze on her so she tried to reboot it and now its gets 3/4 of the way and reboots again. Ive tried everythings possible like desktop manager and jl_cmder but nothing seems to work. If anyone has any suggestions i would be very greatful

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
    Remove the battery
    Wait 15 minutes
    Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain a known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem.
Good luck and let us know!

  • I need to know a lot of things about Blackberry Curve 9300, I need hel please...

Hello there! Some of the questions or problems I'm encountering now maybe for some is nothing & seemed silly but for me it's giving me headache. First, just downloading & installing the Blackberry Desktop Software for PC is giving me a problem already, I downloaded & installed Blackberry Desktop Software v.5.0 but seemed not compatible with my PC & Blackberry Curve 9300, some options & features were missing/incomplete. So what is the best BB Desktop Software for BB Curve 9300? And I want to upgrade my BB Curve 9300 v.5.0.0.977 (Platform 6.3.0.63) to 6 OS. However, I want to know the advantages of the 6 OS first, what features are so special with this OS? Is it ok to download & install the 6 OS leaks? Among those leaks(V.6.0.0.448; v.6.0.0.418, v.6.0.0.380, v.6.0.0.344; etc.) what is the best & safest & most compatible with version of blackberyy Curve 9300 that i have??? Is it a must to upgrade my version of BB Curve 9300 to 6 OS? Í love changing my themes, wallpapers & ringtones but the version I have doesn't allow me to do so... So limited choices... What can I do???
I will really appreciate any comments, suggestions, replies regarding my concerns... Thanks!!!

Hi and Welcome to the forums!
Wow...that's a lot to pack into a single paragraph with a large colorful font! But, let's see if we can take your points one by one, shall we?

Exactly how did it seem not compatible? Precise descriptions are always better than vague generalities...which leave us to only guess...which helps no one I find...

    Again...what, exactly?

The most recent version (6.0.1.18), available here:
    http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/
BTW...the version of the Desktop Software itself is not at all tied to your BB model, nor your BB OS level. It is always best to use the most recent Desktop Software version, regardless of BB model/OS that you have. (There are some very special cases that are exceptions to that...but they are indeed very special.)

OS 6 is very very different from OS 5. I suggest you read the release notes, view the videos, and other things. If, ultimately, you decide you don't want it, then you can always fall back.

I don't know if those versions are leaks or not. But, if they are from a carriers download web portal:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
then they are official and not leaks. From what I can quickly find, the most recent official OS for the 9300 is 6.0.0.461 (from Telus). Typically, on this officially sanctioned (by RIM) site, we shy away from much discussion about leaks since they have bypassed the official channels and are not sanctioned by anyone for release to the general public.

Nope...you can stay behind for as long as you want. Just be aware that someday your OS will be End Of Life and there will be no further formal support. Before you ask...no, I've no idea when that would happen.

Given that OS 6 is even newer, I'd expect that your choices for those things would be even further limited. But, over time, that will shift and there will be plenty of options for OS 6 for you to play with.
    Good luck!
