  • How to turn off volume adjustment sound under Windows 7

    Hey all,
I'm running Windows7 x64 on an Intel iMac (July 2010 revision).
Things are running well for the most part. However, I am unable to find a way to turn off the blooping sound played when adjusting the volume in Windows 7 (I know how to turn it off in OS X). I have tried turning off all system sounds under Windows, but the volume adjustment sound still plays. Does anyone know how to turn this off? I find it jarring. I would appreciate any help that anyone can give.
    Thanks.

That too bad because I use the MBP to do my radio show and it's very annoying. I know you can turn it off on the mac side.

  • Volume of sound is different due to different software

Hello, guys. I am using Mac Air 13-inch. I note the volume of sound from iTunes and Youtube is lower than before, and when i use a third part MP3 music player software the sound is normal( not lower than before). Who could tell me what happened on my computer? Thanks

The best it can be is the quality of the original.  You can take a 128 file and convert it to 320k but it won't change the quality except possibly make it a tiny bit worse and take up more room.  Best compression depends upon what you can hear and what sounds good to you.  Technically the best compression is Apple Lossless but your files will still be much larger than most other formats you would use on an iPhone unless you have space to burn.  Apple Lossless is only really handy for CD rips because most online purchases are already in lossy compression forms.
This business of downloading and uploading changing quality isn't clear to me as you put it.  There is a setting where iTunes will convert to a lower bitrate format for iDevice use.  Check your iTunes settings.

  • How to Change the Volume Changing Sound

How can I change the volume changing sound? I don't want to turn the sound off but I dislike the sound it makes when the volume changes currently.

    Yea, that reason sounds silly.
There are always 1001 reasons why it isnt being done because someone just doesnt WANT to do it.
It only sounds silly to you because you don't really understand the reasoning - obviously. Back in the days of CEP, this software did have a direct link to whatever mixer was being used - almost invariably the internal Windows one. And it was removed. A lot of sound devices simply don't provide links into their mixer panels any more - you run them standalone. On top of that, sound devices these days don't always use the same driver system, and also a lot of devices access Audition by external linking software, like ASIO4ALL. All of these things combined make it not as simple as you seem to think to implement something like this.
So it's not a case of no-one wanting to do it - it was actively removed, because strictly speaking it's not something that Audition should be legitimately addressing. Audition is an editor, and multitrack system, not a machinery controller. That's why its internal mixer is a purely virtual device, and has no direct influence on any of the hardware, except to determine the available inputs or outputs that it addresses.
So typically with the devices I use, if I want to control the physical attributes of them I leave their control panels open, almost invariably on a second monitor. And that is entirely sufficient.

  • When using side buttons, volumes says sound effects

Not sure what happened here.  Is it a mistake by a 3 year old or a bug issue.  Started about a month ago that when i open apps that have sound the volume goes mute, meaning sound and keyboard and lock too.  Even when i close the app down and open say a video type app, there will be no sound.  I will push the side buttons and the gray box that should say volume says sound effect.  I have already done the reset with holding home and lock buttons, can't remeber how many times.  I have also reset the iPad,  i have synced it too.  Please help

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

To solve some sound problems, just follow these simple steps
    1. Go to Settings
    2. Tap on General
    3. Tap on Reset
    4. Tap on Reset All Settings
What this effectively does is to reset some of your Settings to factory default. It’s not a complete removal of settings. It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do No Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy. It doesn’t affect your data. All of your email accounts will remain intact, as well as any SMS text or iMessages.

  • How do you turn off volume blip sound

I like to turn off that annoying volume blipping sound when I adjust via keyboard. I like to use it with PA equipment. ????

    Bill,
    Try this:
Open System Preferences>Sound and click on the Sound Effects tab.
There you'll find a check box for "Play feedback when volume is changed".
I'm running Tiger, but I think a similar setting is in Panther as well.

  • Curve 8520 Volume Button No Longer Working

Today the volume up button on right side of my Curve 8520 no longer works.  Is there a fix?  Is there another way I can control my volume when listening to music?  I really don't want to replace my current Curve if I can.  Please help
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thanks for the reply  unleashurself,
When listening to music, listening to voice notes or watching video's there is no sound.  When I push on the up volume button, volume does not go up & little speaker icon on bottom right of screen shows no bars (ie: no sound)
When making a phone call and using speaker phone, noticed I am able to volume down with the volume down button, but cannot volume up.
It does seem like a hardware issue (up volume button is done), I am wondering if there is another way I can control my volume through menu settings.

  • Unable to adjust volume, no sound output

I downloaded the recent updates a day or two ago and haven't used my computer much since. I now find that I cannot adjust the sound (using the menu bar icon, the system prefs, or the keyboard function keys). When I press the key to adjust sound, I see the normal display (speaker with waves) with a slashed circle at the bottom.
In the Sound pane in system prefs, on the output tab, the only device I see Digital Out. Shouldn't I see "internal speakers" or something?
    TIA

The headphone jack might be bad. It should switch to the internal speakers with nothing plugged in. It may be switching to optical (which has no volume control) instead. Can you see the light from the LED in the headphone jack? Try plugging, and unplugging the headphones a few times, to get the internal speakers to work? Did they ever work? If not, is it under warrantee (less than one year old, or three years if you bought AppleCare).

  • Mac Volume and Sound Problem in newly installed Windows

    Hi Friends,
I intalled the Windows 8 Developer Edition using Bootcamp 4.0
My Mac Volume/Hard Disk is not displayed in "My Computer". I read it will display the Volume in read-only mode. Can anyone help in making the Volume show on Windows?
The sound is also not working. Any work-around?
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Ragu

You are familiar with beta testing? Ever?
It is ah, "normal" for audio to not work on Mac running Windows until YOU install an audio driver.
    AppleHFS.sys and AppleMNT.sys were buggy with Windows 7 3.0 and 3.1
If you want, see what Paragon HFS 9.5 $19 and ask Paragon-Software about whether you can beta test their HFS driver.
Their CampTune 9.5 was just updated to support Lion.
I would also call Lion 7.1 still in the "early" stage and not fully ready - give it a couple updates like every other OS X release - in the 'final candidate+' stage too. The Boot Camp 4 drivers for Windows are better now than they were in July but still some rough spots and things missing.
And there was a firmware update for the MBP just this week, and that model has been through 3-4 minor chip revisions to the motherboards, some of which deas with support and bugs with SATA 3 affecting SSD support.

  • Adjusting volumes in Sound

    Hey,
I'm working from a c++ program where the user would speak into a microphone when prompted, and the system's microphone recording volume would be adjusted accordingly to stop the sound from being too loud/quiet.
This is so that speech samples taken after this 'calibration' are of good quality (in volume sense).
Is there a way of accessing system volume settings in Java?
No, forget that, it's bad and wrong... Is there a sly way of having the same effect as this? (Got SOME experience of java sound, but not amazing amounts)
    Thanks!

System volume controls, when reduced, get rid of clipping from loud input, because these controls affect the original signal
I need to find a technique which has the same effect. I need to know whether using controls like FloatControl have the effect where (for example a loud signal, clipping because the system volume controls are high) the clipped signal isn't just reduced to a lower volume but still clipped signal, but actually uses the original input, and thus 'removes' (so to speak) the clipping.
    Is it possible?

  • Volume change sound Stopped Working! HELP!

For some reason out of the blue...the sound i hear when I turn the volume up or down on my mac suddenly stopped playing
I went to System Prefrences > Sound and tried everything but i cannot get that feature back..and i did not even disable it!

after an OS update, sometimes rarely a SMC reset needs to be made
    reset it:
    SMC reset
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • Volume change sound effect won't stop

So I changed my preferences and unticked the "Play feedback when volume is changed" option. Basically all is good for a while then a week or two later I'll realise the sound effect is back when I change the volume. But the option remains unticked in preferences.
    Anyone else having this problem?

Simple, the device even if off can pick up signal noise from any other device or items. Stereo speakers have in the past gave off a whirl sound from radio stations, police and cb radios, high frequency pick up is not unheard of. There are cases where radio receivers have picked up cross talk while off.
With computers broadcasting on the 2.4 and 5.0 frequency many times microvave ovens, other electrical items can cause the sound the original poster complains about. (Chirping) Cell phones are just radio transmitting and receiving devices.
You don't need a 500 foot antenna to pick up sounds. Even if the phone is off it has an internal antenna.
interference is quite possible, and frankly there are not many people posting about radio chirping to believe its nothing but interference .

  • How do I disable the volume clicking sound?

I have been trying to disable the super-annoying sound that is played every time you change the volume using the Volume Up/Down keys (F11 and F12 on my MacBook Pro)
I am running Windows 7 Pro SP1 with BootCamp v3.3 on a 32-bit Intel Core Duo P7550 2.26 GHz MacBook Pro (probably TMI, but figure it doesn't hurt)
This is what I have tried:
    1. Windows Task Bar > BootCamp control Panel > Keyboard - according to other forums, there is supposed to be an option for disabling audio, but here the only option is to use all F1-F12 standard functions, which completely disables the volume up/down functionality.
    2. Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Change System Sounds - I have tried changing the sound scheme to no sounds, but the clicking sound still plays.
    3. Control Pabel > Hardware and Sound > Playback > Select playback device (speakers) > Disable All Enhancements > Select Disable All Enhancements - according to some forums this was supposed to fix the problem but it did not.
None of the above has worked.
I sometimes need to play audio over a public PA system or for events and having the click sound is both annoying and, frankly, a bit embarassing.  I can't believe turning it off should be so difficult.
Any advice or tips would be appreciated.

  • Why does I pad volume show sound effects not volume

My I pad used to show volume control now it shows sound effects.  Also keyboard clicks not working

All these effects are part of the loops in the iLife Sound effects loop package, that was a part of the application bundle iLIfe '11 (iPhoto. iMovie, GarageBand '11).  These loops are neither installed by GarageBand 10.0 or GarageBand '11, nor MacOs X, you need an iLife '11 installer disk to get these loops.
And GarageBand 10 also does not have the Sound Effects instruments any longer, that let you drag samples onto keys. It is one of the sorely missed features, that have been discontinued in the new version GarageBand 10. even if you install the previous version, GarageBAnd '11, to add the Sound effects instrument to GarageBand 10. it will not work properly, because GarageBand 10 will not save the custom instrument with the samples. You will have to complete your song in one session, without quitting GarageBand.
You may want to send feedback to the Apple Developers about these missing features with a feature request:   Apple - GarageBand Mac- Feedback

  • My macbook pro volume is locked. there is a circle with a line through it when i press the volume buttons but no volume will sound. music and videos will not play and there is no red light on in the headphone jack.

Any suggestions of what could be wrong? or how it can be fixed. I have not updated it or anything. this just randomly happened about 2 hours ago. I tried looking for answers but nothing has worked so far.

I tried all of the fixes above and quite a few others like resetting the pram and nvram and what finally worked for me was resetting my sound card from Terminal. Open Terminal and enter the command sudo kill -9 `ps ax|grep 'coreaudio[a-z]' | awk '{print $1}'`. It will ask for your password, enter in your password and press enter. The sound card will be reset and your audio and volume control should be restored..
