BB10 cant block apps from internet access in Application Permissions?

I have a Q10. BB 10.1 OS.
It appears I cant prevent third party apps from gaining access to the internet among other settings under the Securities/Application Permissions. This is in huge contrast to my 9700 where I can very specifically dictate what program has access to, whether that be Wifi, Data, Bluetooth etc.
Is there another way to do this or is this OS not complete yet and these functions will be included back in future iterations? Or is my OS a dated version?
This is problematic for me. Seems this problem presents as both a security issue in cases where the third party app has mal-intensions, as well as being a data leech should the program constantly utilize data unbeknownst to the user.
Internet is just one thing. What about the camera, mic etc? How do we know ID thieves are not making BB10 disguised as something useful so they can data mine the users and send all of their personal information back to them via unfettered internet access, mic access, camera access, GPS location access (hence know home + work addresses) and then perform criminal activities using your data?
Im shocked. I thought Blackberry is supposed to be better in the security department compared to Apple. THis is what I expected from Apple and Android. Or is this the new thing? All third party apps purposefully get internet access whether the user agrees or not?

Great question. Unfortunately I don't have an answer, but can comment that these preloaded apps are using MB from my datapak that I paid money to have for MY personal use! Not theirs! I believe it's theft when they use what we pay for. Time to check legalities in my opinion.

    1. Apple has in the past rejected apps from the App Store (and removed apps that have got through) for covertly collecting/transmitting user data. Part of Apple's argument for a curated system is that users are protected within the "walled garden".
First of all thank you for your answers. You have used past tense here. Has Apple stopped applying this policy?
No - I didn't mean to suggest that - sorry. I was trying to emphasise that Apple has actually done this, rather than simply saying "Apple will/would/could..." In other words, Apple has actually taken action. As far as I'm aware, Apple policies and processes in this area haven't changed.
    2. Open source only guarantees trust if you personally (or someone that you *know* you can trust) examines the source. Few people go that far - most base their trust of open source on the assumption that someone else has done the examination. That doesn't mean they're wrong to do it, but there *is* that assumption.
The thing that open source guarantee that anyone can look into the code and see with one's own eyes what is actually going on on their device and with their data. I agree with you that there is an assumption for the cases where user does not himself check the code, however he always knows that he can do this whenever he wants. This possibility itself is relieving enough for most people. I have not heard any malicious open source software so far.
Fair point. What I was trying to say, perhaps not clearly enough, is that, even with open source, there's a point beyond which we trust someone else. One of the benefits of open source, as you're indicating, is that it provides a mechanism whereby you can lodge trust in people you don't even know.
    4. I make my "trust" decision based on my experience of, or the reputation of the app developer. I trust Apple, for example, even though their code is closed.
It can be said that by buying its hardware all Apple users trust the company for at least some extent. It would be great if Apple, who shows its proud about the richness of application database, could let users keep their trust circle at least narrower by letting them finely control how their device connect to internet, instead expecting them to have an idea of reputation for every single application developer.
I agree - as I suggested in another post, I don't feel the same concern that you do, but it would be good if people with your view on this were able easily to reassure themselves.

  • Block Websites from being accessed

Is there a way to block websites from being accessed on the network through AEBS?

Are you acquanted with using the Terminal?
Not too many are, so, some solutions:
If you make the specific user a username on the computer, you can block websites in the Parental Controls section in the Accounts preference pane.
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/family/
Also, hosts can be blocked on a one-by-one basis by adding them to the /etc/hosts file, with an IP address of 0.0.0.0. If you're not familiar with the terminal then I don't recommend this route

I have a work ipad but they have removed safari and locked it down so i cant put apps from my itunes account onto it. Any ideas on what i can do

Besides the ethical and professional issues involved, the iPad appears to be linked to a different iTunes account than your personal one. Applications are tied to the account, not the device - so if you were able to use your personal account to install the apps in question, you'd be wiping out all the ones your employer put on.
If you feel these apps are necessary for your work, then talk to your supervisor/tech department about them purchasing additional copies for use on the iPad.

  • I cant download apps from my iPad 2 only my laptop

I cant download apps on my iPad 2 it started after the ios 5.1 update I think it was and I tried downloading an app but it wont let me it was free too. I tried lots of times with different apps but still wont work. And now I cant update because one of the apps is stuck on installing and its still there wether I turn my iPad off, turn wi-fi off its always there! And I even tried locking it ! Still there, I tried backing up and it wont back up. Everything else is perfect except for downloading things.
    Please Help!

Try double taping the stuck app, it should stop the download, then restart. You can also try going to the App Store, searching for the App, and try installing from there if it let's you. Can you hold the icon and make it jiggle to delete it?

  • Please help-cant add apps from ipod can buy them but they dont install

i have a ipod touch, but i cant get apps on my ipod if i buy them on there, i can pay for them but it wont install them. If  plug it in to the comp they will normally go on, but i used to be able to get them straight from the ipod??

    I would try:
    - Resetting the iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next reset network settings on the iPod: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.
    - Next would be to restore the iPod.  However, I would wait on that since maybe Apple is having a server problem.

  • Has anyone restored from Time Machine and Application permissions okay?

    Greetings Apple Discussions:
Has anyone restored their system from Time Machine yet and had a successful restore of their application permissions from Time Machine?
I just wanted to get confirmation.

I've done several. In fact I did many during beta testing and I've done at least one after installing 10.5 and 10.5.1. Each one done under 10.5 and 10.5.1 were successful without any noticeable issues with permissions.

Hiv ayishu. Are you unable to download any application from the Store? Does this happen regardless of the connection being used? To ensure that you have a stable internet connection, try browsing other websites or try accessing other internet-based apps. By the way, do you remember the error code/message that you're getting? Below are the common Windows Store error codes and their workarounds.

Is there a way we can block the internet from others users, the other grades are giving the password to the internet and it upsets the atmosphere of the room when the other teacher is teaching. We are using workgroup manager.
