Bbb file

Why would it save my backup in a .bbb file on a Windows computer?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
The RIM Desktop Software, for the true "backup" process (as opposed to the "synchronization" process), creates that file, and it's sole intention is as the source of future restore, to your BB, in case of catastrophic data loss. Hence, the reason "why" is so that you actually have it available for that future restore. The file format is proprietary, as it's sole intent is as the source of restore.
There are 3rd party PC apps out there that can parse the BBB file and present the information to you in a more human-readable format.
Good luck!

  • .bbb file type

A .bbb file type is used to back up my 8820 files.    I have Windows 7 operating system on my PC  which does not recognize this file type.  How do I open the back up files?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
BB backup files (either BBB or IPD) are proprietary, intended solely as the source of restore to a BB device via the Desktop Software...no other function is native to them.
However, there are 3rd party PC apps that have been known to parse and present the files in a usable format. A few seconds with Google and I'm sure you'll find something useful.
    Good luck!

  • Open a .bbb files with another software than Link to retrieve drafts

    Hello,
I have a Blackberry Q10 which is synchronized with an Exchange account for my work email. I did a full backup of the phone via Blackberry Link before making an update.
My problem, this shift has removed my drafts that existed only on my phone. Usually to made a "memo" I create a new email, I mark the info and I "save" without send. It displays with my other emails but not sync with Exchange (I do it to prevent my very confidential info not roam on an Exchange server).
I made this shift, they disappeared ... I restored the data, they reappear not ...
    2 questions at once:
    - Is the backup via Link backup me these drafts?
    - Is there an soft that allows me to open the file .bbb and check the contents of the backup on my pc. No obligation to restore on the BB but if I can copy that info on another place, this would be very helpful!
    Thank you !

Magic Berry : unable to concatene file
    Blackberry Backup extractor : Doesn't support V10
ABC Amber  Blackberry converter : Can't open .bbb file (only .ipd)
i've tried to rename it to .ipd, doesn't works.
I've tried to zipped it and extract the files from the zip but I've files with an extension .tar and I don't know how I can used it...
As far as I know the .BBB it is not possible to open them, it is a security feature, otherwise it would just defeat the purposse of having a secure device if you could just open a backup file

  • HOW TO OPEN A BBB FILE ?

I simply want to back up my contact list should i lose my phone. I back up into a bbb file and i cannot open ?

There are a couple of options for extracting and viewing data from a the backup files.
    1. The IPD Parse macro is designed to read a Blackberry IPD file and create reports in MSWord or MSExcel. It is free, and you can find out more here: https://sites.google.com/site/ipdparse/home
For .bbb backup files, use this macro to extract seven "primary" IPD files (Address Book, Calendar, SMS Messages, Tasks, Memos, PIN Messages and Phone Call Logs)
    IPD bbb Extract macro https://sites.google.com/site/ipdbbbextract
These IPD files can subsequently be used as inputs to the other macro, IPD Parse, to produce reports.
    2. Another options is MagicBerry from MenaStep... which extract from a backup IPD or BBB file, split IPD files, etc. http://menastep.com/pages/magicberry.php
    3. Another IPD and BBB file utility is BlackBerry Backup Extractor, and is available for PC and Mac, and can be found here: http://www.blackberryconverter.com/ There is a free and paid version.

  • BBB file format

    Hey guys,
I have been using BB Storm 9550. I no more use it because it accidentally broke. But I have my contact backup saved as BBB file in my computer. I am now using a Samsung mobile(Basic Model). I want my contacts from the Backup in my new mobile. Please help me come up with a solution. Have been trying a lot. Thank you

There is no way to move the BBB file to your Samsung device. You would need to sync the BB device with another service like GMail or sync it with Outlook and then upload the Outlook contacts to Google or Outlook.com or the like and then sync that with your new device.

Well, if simply double-clicking the .bbb file doesn't work, first try dragging the file onto the BBDM icon (either in the Dock, on the desktop or in the Applications folder or wherever it's stored). That tells Finder to open it with that application.
Otherwise, right-click on the file and choose the Open With option. If BBDM is not the default, select Get Info and use the Open with box from there to select it (if it's not in the list, choose 'other' and navigate to it), then click the 'change all' button.

  • HELP! - MONTHS OF DATA LOCKED IN BBB.file

I pray there is a simple answer for this problem, because I'm ready to throw my Playbook under a truck!
Two days ago, I sync'd my Blackberry Playbook with my PC.  The sync process created a bbb. archive file with 9G of pictures and videos from my Playbook.  During that same process, all the videos and pictures were automatically removed from my Playbook.  The files are now locked in a bbb. file on my computer, which I can not open, access, read or restore to my Playbook.  Months of photos, data, video all lost?!?  WTF!!!
I've already tried the restore option under the Blackberry Desktop Software, and it will not restore the photos and videos to the Playbook.
Is there some way to open a bbb. file?
Is there some way to restore the photos and videos to my Playbook?
Is there some way to access the photos and videos so that I can use, edit or re-save them on my PC?
Any assistance would be most appreciated!

  • Open .bbb files on a mac

Hi, is there a way to open blackberry files (.bbb) on a mac?
I really need that information, but i can´t find a program to open the files

Only the Desktop Manager can read the BBB files.

  • BBB Files Needed

There seems to be a lot of confusion surrounding the new *.bbb BlackBerry Backup file format. I'm doing my best to sift through it all and I'm hoping some of you may be able to help me.
Let me give you a little background first:
I'm a software developer, recently hired. I was just tasked with updating some existing software that opens and extracts data from *.ipd backup files. I'm trying to understand how the new file format works, and I need a little help.
I believe that all of the following is true:
    1) Up until earlier this year, the PC version of the Desktop Manager saved backups in *.ipd format
    2) Up until earlier this year the Mac version of the Desktop Manager saved backups in *.bbb format which was a zip file that contained the *.ipd file in it
    3) With the release of the Desktop Manager v7 (PC) the *.bbb file is now used by all backups, but is a new file format (Backup File Format v2) which is a zip file containing *.dat files
So this is where I need some help. I am not a BlackBerry user myself, so I don't have access to any backups. Would anyone be willing to (privately) provide me with a sample *.bbb file (and matching *.ipd, if possible) to analyze? If possible, please comment below or send me a private message or email. All data would be kept strictly confidential and private.
If someone from BlackBerry is reading this, do you have any technical information you can provide me regarding the *.bbb file format? Are there sample files that you could provide me?

I am also looking for support for opening .BBB backup files. Have a 9360 curve, unable to open the .BBB file, edit the contacts and upload them back. In Nokia PC suite, its very user friendly, but Blackberry is very complicated. I was asked to download BB for desktop but it doesn't help read .BBB file as an excel sheet or move to MS Outlook and help edit.
I am not a software guy - so would need a slightly easier & user friendly advise that is easy to follow without too much tech jargon.

Hi aliregman1986 and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums!
BlackBerry smartphone backup files are only designed to be restored to a BlackBerry smartphone. To view the contents, you will have to use the BlackBerry Desktop Software to restore the file to your device or an alternate device.
    Thanks.

  • Converting .bbb file on a Mac

Does anyone know of any .bbb file converters for a Mac? I've seen that ABC Amber one but it's only for Windows.
    Thanks!

Not sure if this is still relevant, but I wrote a procedure on this on my blog:
    http://problemhercules.blogspot.com/2010/10/exporting-call-logs-text-messages-and.html
You probably want to make sure you only do a partial backup as IPDdump seems to **bleep** out when processing a full backup...

  • .bbb files into new Q10

    Hello
I've lost my BB Curve and bought the new Q10. I have my backup file with all my contacts. How can I make Q10 to recognize it ? The file is .bbb type.
    Thanks

On your Manage Connections screen, click on the Services Status.
What is the status of the BlackBerry Internet Service?nevermind, I don't know what i was thinking, you CAN restore a legacy OS backup to a new Q10, using the LINK software on desktop PC.
    Download/install Link.
    Connect the Q10.
Click on the upper right gear icon
click in the left side panel > RESTORE
In the center screen pop-up, click on the LEGACY device backup.
    Proceed.
And a warning, if you had any Address Book Groups addresses in the earlier contacts, it will not restore any of your contacts.
Anyway, you made the disparing comments, etc., if you can't take feedback and responses, don't make the comments. Protect has been available for over four years, and it is there for your data safety. I don't work for RIM/BlackBerr, I'm a user just like you. These forums are user to user as you will see posted at the top of EACH page of the forum.
    Good luck.

  • Recovering a possibly corrupted .bbb file

    Hi All,
Hopefully someone can assist me with this problem.
I'm using DM 7.0.0.59 and created a backup of my BB9700 with OS 6 2921. When I tried to restore from backup, it is saying that "The selected backup file might be corrupted". Is there a way of recovering or fixing this issue?
    Thansk.

Can you tell us more about what happened during the process of updating? Did you get any errors? There are 3rd party apps out there that can still read corrupted BBB backups, but it might encounter difficulty at some point due to the fact that the backup is corrupted. Try using the free version of Blackberry Backup Extractor and see if the software  can read your backup, it should be possible and you should be able to extract your data inside.
